Switching droid sim cards

just got a droid 2 and plan on getting a droid x.
if the person with the droid 2 wanted the droid x and vise versa, coud we just switch the sim cards?
what information is all on the sim card?
thank you.

SIM cards hold vital information about your phone. It holds your phone number, contract number, etc. There are several Verizon phones which need SIM cards to operate, such as the LG Spectrum. Without it, the phone will not function. The Droid X does not use the SIM. The Droid 2 Global does use the SIM which makes it useable overseas.

It is important for me to save/transfer all photos, video, & *especially* all text messages. When the SIM cards are swapped between phones, will any of these things be lost/deleted?

Thank you! I would prefer not to wipe his phone. My cracked screen iPhone still works, so I would ideally like to put his SIM card in my phone for occasional use. As mentioned, he is not using his iPhone anymore for phone calls, but would like to maintain access to photos, video, and all texts. As I use an iPhone for calls, trading the cracked screen is ideal. If I am able to switch them without losing data, I will, but am afraid to do so if there is a chance that any data will be erased. (I'm not sure if the photos, video, and -namely- texts are saved to the actual SIM card. Can text messages be backed up?
iPhone do not store anything on the sim.
Photos should be saved on computer like any other digital camera.
You can restore the backup for your dad as well as for yourself while swapping phones.

Do you just want to delete the music or wipe the whole phone since you've switched to the other one?
If you plug the old iPhone into your computer you can remove stuff via iTunes or remove stuff directly from the iPhone too.

If you have a smartphone data plan it wouln't change it. Otherwise it would force you to choose a smartphone plan. But why don't you just call AT&T and ask? And why do you want to use your old SIM? You can just activate the iPhone with its SIM if the phone is new, and if it's used AT&T will give you a new SIM. Either way you will keep the same number.

  • Does switching a SIM card abroad causing any configuration troubles?

I would like to use a prepaid SIM card of a country I visit regularly to not pay the expensive abroad rates while traveling in the traveling country. Now I would like to know if the iPhone 5 will allow me to switch the SIM card once I am abroad without any configuration like sync with iTunes or other per requisites? Or does the iPhone gets confused when I am switching the SIM?
    Thanks for sharing your experience.

Firstly your iPhone must by unlocked via your mobile network and Apple iTunes if your carrier allows it.
Now as to using a local sim in an unlocked iPhone - Yes there can be configuration issues with data, sms/mms and email.
The iPhone iOS does include the ability to set the APN settings necessary to get sms/mms working and Internet access however it also needs the sim card to support this function.
Many carrier sim cards do not and they hide this menu and try to auto configure the device.
Most of the time this is successful however not always.
Frequently the sms/mms settings are not correct meaning you may receive texts but are unable to send them whilst you have the foreign sim installed.
If the sim does supports manual configuration you will find the following menu item on your device at
    settings/general/cellular/ CELLULAR DATA NETWORK.
Here you can add the correct setting for the mobile network by hand and turn off/on to set the profile.
If its not there you can not easily set these and may have to live with no sms/mms service for the duration or swap back your home card to send texts remembering roaming rates will be applied.
Now to the question of email again receiving should be no problem and imap sending should also work.
POP mail accounts however may fail to send .
You may be able to rectify this by changing smtp (Send) protocol to those of the host mobile network for the duration then resetting them when back on your normal sim and mobile networks.
So yes there can be networking issues to deal with !

SIM card has nothing to do with your Apple ID or apps.
IOS devices do not store anything on the SIM card.
    BAckup everything on the iPads.
REstore tbe ipad from the backup of the other iPad.
    REpeat for the other one.

  • I got problem with my network after I switch the SIM card.

I've go back to china in my summer holiday and of cause switched to a chinese SIM card. But im not able to use any software to get on the internet with it although it does show 3g on the top left coner. everthing else are working fine, i can dail, pick up phone calls, send or recieve messages, and one of online chating software which is a bit like MSN is still functioning. I've asked local shops and customer service, and tried everything they suggest like reset network, reset the whole phone and i even recovered it to its initial status, but the network still the same. The SIM card works fine and it is able to connect the internet on my friends cell phone, and i used it last summer holidy without any problem at all.
I'm guessing there might be some setup problem after i upgraded the system, I really hope someone can help me with this problem.

    Hi,
What version of the OS did you upgrade from ?
Anything before OS X 10.8.2 may have an issue if the Logic/Mother board has been replaced and the Serial Number not "flashed" back to it.
In the Apple Icon menu use the About this Mac item.
In the new panel click twice on the line that tells you the current OS level
It will change to the Build number (and alternative count to the OS versions) and then the Serial Number.
If it is missing you need to get it replaced.
(It is supposed to be done on Repair or Refurbishment).
An Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider as the best choices.
There are apps you can download (They are Mac Model specific) but needs careful typing as it is a once only trip.

  • Nothing but problems since switching out SIM card's at at&t

so lately, i've been having this strange recurring issue with my sim card. every so often the iphone will report that it is not installed even when it is in there, only way i was able to correct it would be to shut the phone off and turn it back on. it got annoying to the point where i took it too AT&T Yesterday and had the sim card's switched out.
Since then i've had nothing but problem's, i went home and my iPhone just started spitting out error's like crazy. It keept reporting "Accessory is not supported by the iphone, would you like to go into airplane mode to reduce sound quality? you will not be able to make or receive calls while in airplane mode"
To me that sounded like a problem with the activation process after AT&T switched out my sim card.
So I plugged in my iPhone into my computer, and it gave me more problems.. Window's was able to detect my iphone but it took FOREVER. I left it in there for two hours until it finally activated the phone.
After that scenario i thought it would be best to try and do a full restore on my iphone to see if that would help clear the lag, i hit the restore button and let the download finish.. then after itunes just hanged there for 3 hours and did nothing. so i had no other choice but to unplug the phone and try again.
Now when i plug the iphone into that same USB port I get 1 of two error's, more commonly i get an "itunes could not connect to iphone due to an unknown error (0xE80000024)" http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/8369/iphoneerror2.jpg
When i restart the computer and try to plug it into that same port i get this error "itunes could not back up the iPhone because a session could not be started with the iPhone" http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/4837/iphoneerror.jpg
If i try an other USB port it will connect and sync perfectly fine, but i cant do a restore to clear the lag issues, if i try it will just hang there. usually the only way i can "fix" this error is to re install window's entirely and start from scratch, which to be honest i'm really tired of doing..
anyone have any idea what could be causing these problems? I'm not positive it's the phone itself so i want to try and restore it before i go to an apple store with these problems..
    itunes version 8.1.1.10
    Iphone Version 2.2.1 (5H11)
    Firmware version 2.30.03
    Windows Vista 32 Bit

Based on your description of the problems before and after getting a new SIM card, and before attempting a restore with iTunes and the problem that occured when trying to do a restore, I would give AppleCare a call at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby ASAP.

  • Droid SIM Card

So i purchased a Droid Incredible II from a third party. I want to know if Verizon will give me a SIM card for it or will they give me a hard time.

Note that the SIM cards are free at Corporate Verizon stores; if you go to a retailer, they'll charge you for one.  And they may try to upsell you on your plan, but again, you do not have to change it just because you're swapping out phones.

  • Is it possible to switch Telus SIM card in Canadian iPhone4

I have a new iPhone4, purchased Dec.17/2010 in Canada from Telus. The Telus SIM card was inserted at the store at time of purchase. Since I frequently travel to the USA, I called Telusmobility tech support and asked whether the phone is locked or if it was possible to insert a US based carrier's SIM card while in the US so that I could avoid roaming charges. I was told the phone was not locked and that, yes, I could insert another SIM card if I liked.
However, I then stubbled across this Apple support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937
It clearly states that the iPhone is locked by all Canadian carriers and that none of the carriers offer authorized unlocking.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. I don't want to buy a US SIM card only to find out that it doe not qork in my phone and I have wasted my money.... or worse yet, insert an AT&T SIM card into my phone and end up with it being locked to that carrier.
    TIA!

I suspect your phone is in fact locked to Telus. You can easily verify such by inserting any other carrier's sim in your phone. Doing so will not lock your phone if it is officially unlocked. If you get any error messages(sim not supported), this will confirm your phone is locked to Telus. No error messages, your phone is unlocked and you're good to go. If your phone is locked, only Telus could authorize its official unlocking.

If the new iphone did not cope with a SIM, then you have to get a SIM card from your carrier for your iphone.
