Switching to ACHI mode on K9N2-Platinum with WinXP

Lightening zapped my K9N-Platinum (knocked both of the NIC’s) and video became occasionally flakey.  My old mobo is out of print, so I simply got the “newest in the line,” being the K9N2-Platinum.
Switching the boards was time consuming, but zenly satisfying – until I tried to boot WinXP!!  No doubt I "should have" been running *Nix or VI$TA, but I’m not.  After trying many BIOS configurations and even more web pages, I’ve narrowed the problem down to this:
When I originally installed WinXP it was without the ACHI drivers.  This worked fine on the old board, but the new board supports ACHI – in fact, configuring the BIOS to allow RAID automatically  turns on ACHI.  Thus, there is no IDE+RAID option.
At least, I think that my problem.  If this is true, then I’m wondering how I could “upgrade” the WinXP install to work with an ACHI system drive.  (Once that’s figured out, I’m assuming the RAID array of three other drives will work without hitch.)
HELP PLEASE – I really want the data on my RAID available and I shudder to think about swapping the old mobo back in place just to offload the 900+Gig of multimedia because the K9N2 isn’t forward compatible with it’s predecessor (at least, not under WinDoze XP).

Yeah – that didn’t work.  The drivers available there don’t seem to help me out, or I’m idiot and I’m just not doing it right.
I forgot to mention in the original:  I don’t want to spend hours installing WinXP and all my apps and updates / upgrades plus configuration of it all.  It would be much nicer to just fiddle with the drivers…
Perhaps some more info is relevant:
My system drive works fine when the BIOS is set for “SATA Mode = [IDE]”  For either modes [RAID] or [AHCI], no joy (I understand that [RAID] implies [AHCI], so that’s been my focus).
When I set to [AHCI], the system boot starts, the Windows XP splash screen comes up and after about 1.283 seconds (estimated  8^} ) I get a BSoD with stop code of 0x7B.
I’ve tried setting to [IDE] mode, installing the driver, flipping back to [AHCI] (or [RAID]) and always get the “BSoD – STOP 0x7B”  I’m not the kind of person who installs drivers as an after-dinner snack, so I’m not fluent in the technique.  One thing that seems weird is that the guide I followed for this attempt (http://expertester.wordpress.com/2008/07/27/how-to-enable-ahci-windows-xp/) directed me to the device manager and then to select the IDE components.  Fine, I realize the point is to displace an IDE driver with an AHCI one, but how do I know which IDE device to update?  There are two “Primary”, two “Secondary” and two “Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE".
ALSO, as per https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=106575.0, it seems very reasonable that I should be able to do what I want to do even though that topic is for Intel based boards.  Naturally, there is a Microsoft KB article to solve exactly this problem, but only for Vista (perhaps I should upgrade downgrade sidegrade??)
TIA!
PS – Sorry I typoed the AHCI abbreviation on my first post as ACHI (it seems more pronounceable my way).  Must look like a buffoon…

  • T61 crash on switching to battery mode with win7

    Hi,
I bought a Thinkpad T61 - 7661-CH8 notebook that crashes on switching to battery mode when I remove the power cord. This occures on Windows 7 pro 32 and 64bit, too. After a clean install, I use windows update and systemupdate40-2009-10-19 for installing drivers. The bios is the lastest 2.27-1.08.
The screen flickering the same way as on resolution change. Maybe it tries to change display mode and turns Aero on and off. After some display mode changes it freezes. No BSOD, but everything is frozen, no activity (only backlight turs on and off, if I close the display).
I found on every crash the same thing in the event log:
    critical, kernel-power 41 (63)
The only change is from the original state that the system has 2x2GB ram and 320GB HDD, but under Windows Xp everithing is fine ( I used the recovery disks to try out the original xp system). The ram and the HDD is fine.
Is there a preferred x3100/gm965 videocard driver that works fine with windows 7? I think the video driver is responsible for the problems.

It seems that I have a solution. I have to install this driver:

    Hi,
Please check if you have entries on the table RSTRANRULE with:
    GROUPID   =  'space'
    GROUPTYPE =  'space' or 'S'
    REF_RULE  <> 'space'
If there are inconsistent entries in the RSTRANRULE table such as:

  • Please help - A new Excel process with each switch to Preview Mode

I've noticed via Task Manager that every time I hit the "Preview" button, a new Excel process is created in Windows. However, the Excel process is neither discarded when leaving Preview Mode, nor reused the next time you switch to Preview Mode.
After several previews, you end up with a bunch of Excel processes in Windows, consuming resources (particularly memory). These process do not get killed when you close Xcelsius (you have to manually terminate them).
In the end, Xcelsius crashes every couple of hours (maybe because of this issue, I haven't proved it yet).
I'm currently using Win Vista Business 32-Bits (fully patched), Office 2007 (fully patched), Xcelsius 2008 Engage with latest SP and FP.
Has anyone experienced this situation? Is there any workaround for this issue?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Achi mode x200s windows 7

if i change bios to run ACHI for sata i get blue screen of death on my boot to windows 7
how can i get it to run in ACHI mode for increased speed? do i need to reinstall windows for this and do a driver install or can i switch it while windows is already installed somehow?

    Hello,
I do not have an X200s, but am guessing the X200s was originally set up with the hard disk drive interface in Legacy/PATA/IDE/Compatibility mode (not sure of exact term used in BIOS).  Is that correct?
If so, you might want to check out Microsoft Knowledgebase Article # 922976, "Error message when you start a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA m...".
If the STOP error (BSOD) mentioned is the same one you are getting when you attempt to boot the X200s with the drive interface in ACHI mode, try running the Fixit on the page to resolve the issue on your ThinkPad.

  • Msi K9N2 Platinum SLI and Windows Server 2003 r2 32 bit edition

Does anyone know or have tried to get this board to work on server 2003 32 bit edition. I seem to get past the raid part but the realtek 8211bl and audio are giving me fits. Any links to good drivers would be appreciated.
    Spec of system:
    Amd 9950 Quad
    4 gig memory
    Msi K9N2 Platinum SLI
    2 500 gig sata

Ok overall solution this board works awesome with Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2 with Sp 2.
Here are a few tricks for the Co processor controller, Sm Bus, Audio and finally the networking controller.
When you finally get windows loaded. Make sure you put Service Pack 2 or 3 on before u install drivers.
The raid drivers are simple for the 32 bit version use the xp ones and load both raid drivers during setup. Requires 2 floppys or Slipstream disk.
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=driverfile&dno=7067&i=2
Once you get windows loaded and Sp 2 or better on. Stick in your windows vista driver disk in. Once there do not install anything.
Goto device manager and update drivers on all that are with the yellow ? excpet the networking drivers and just do an automatic search and boom your done. It will also ask you if you want to enable your audio at this time. Do so but do not reboot untill u finish installing all drivers but networking. Than reboot pc
Last part is for networking card. We need you to be in safe mode for this. So once u install all drivers and start reboot hit F8 and goto safe mode. Once in safe mode take out vista driver disk and put in xp driver disk. Goto device manager and update driver on network controller and let it do an automatic search and it will installl it. It will say it needs to be rebooted to work. Go ahead and reboot and your networking card will work.
Probably simpliar solution. But just wanted to give my help.

  • GT784WNV not working in Bridge Mode! Fed up with lack of Customer Service

I don't even know where to start but I am this close to just cancelling Verizon and switching to cable internet.  If you want to skip the rant, jump down a paragraph.
I recently moved from a house a few miles away in which I had a solid DSL connection with a Westell 7500 in routed bridge mode that worked just fine with my Asus RT-N56U that I use for browsing, streaming, and online gaming.  When I moved, the technician insisted I take the newer Actiontec GT784WNV.  Needless to say, Verizon support was unsuccessful in getting it set up in bridge mode.  After about 4 hours of unsuccessful troubleshooting, I suggested swapping it back out with my 7500 which worked fine just 4 days prior in my old house.  Surprise!  It miraculously started working just as it had previously.  As I began to use it more, I noticed the connection was unstable.  I would get dropped from Xbox Live and lose connection temporarily on my iPad.  I ran the Verizon speed test and it would drop to about 0 and spike back up 3 or 4 times during the download test (don't think this is normal but could be).  Every day I would talk to Verizon who escalated it to a supervisor about 4 times.  They would then close the ticket without calling me.  When i would follow up, I was told the supervisor talked to me and I verified the connection was good.  Lying makes me livid and there is no accountability whatsoever at Verizon and it happened more than once.  It appears to be a way for them to pass the problem on to someone else.  I can go on and on about being put on hold for 40 minutes before disconnected, the 20+ hours I have spent re-telling my account info and story to every Tier 1 technician on their payroll for the past week, or the lack of competent customer service supervisors.  This weekend, I finally got a call from someone local who said my line had some faults on it and that the problem was somewhere between my jack and the central office and they would send someone out today.  Well....today the tech showed up and said "your problem is this old modem" and plugged in the Actiontec that I started with a week ago.  I asked if he tested my line or the jack as the lady on the phone told me, and he said no.  The problem is the modem.  I said, I don't want a modem/router, I just want a regular modem and he said he had one, but it would cost me.  How on earth is a plain modem going to cost me when they just installed an 802.11n router/modem combo for free?  Absolutely terrible.  I told him I want it in bridge mode because I don't want to use the wireless or the routing capabilities of the Actiontec.  He said I have to do that and people normally just call Best Buy to have the Geek Squad come out.  This really **bleep** me off as I used to run a network shop and configure Cisco routers and switches for a living.  Once again, I have spent the past 6 hours tonight on the phone with Verizon only to end up back where I started.
At this point, I need to make this Actiontec GT784WNV a dummy (bridge) and let my Asus Rt-N56U do the work on my network.  My Asus has all the port forwarding in place that I need for Xbox Live, etc.  I have tried releasing the IP, changing the modem to RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging, disabling DHCP, changing the LAN IP to 192.168.99.1, etc. and it just will NOT get an internet connection.  My router is configured correctly, unless there is something different between the Westell and the Actiontec that would require a setting change.  Verizon is stumped, Asus hasn't called me back yet, and I am ready to just switch to Cable unless someone can help with a solution.  I've been at this for a week.  I have spent WAYY too much time fighting with a company that has no desire to deliver or to follow through and with absolutely zero accountability or business sense.  Westell 7500 + Asus RT-N56U in old house worked fine.  Move houses, change modem, doesn't work, switch back to old modem, works but unstable, tech claims old modem is my problem, plugs in new modem, doesn't work.  I just want to use my router.  How hard can that be?  Can anyone please help?

Unfortunately that didn't work.  I ended up putting my router in the DMZ as a workaround but it still had it's share of issues.  After another week of trying to get Verizon to fix my connection (constant dropped connections forcing reboots of modem and router multiple times daily) I had Cable Internet installed today.  Went from an unstable 6Mb/s to a stable 30Mb/s with Cable.  I should have done this weeks ago.  I wasted over 50 hours of my time with Verizon bouncing my issue around to others hoping someone else would be willing to fix it.  Still no accountability with everyone tinkering with my setup taking a stab in the dark.  The last person I spoke with set up a technician to come to my house later this week...AGAIN because he said there is something wrong on the line.  I've known that for weeks but the tech that refused to fix my issue when he was in my house last week instead tried blaming it on something completely irrelevant because he had no clue what to do.  One would think someone from Verizon would have reached out to me from this thread but they did not.  In fact, the last tech's supervisor called me when i wasn't home, said "hello, this is XXX from Verizon......hello?"  and hung up.  Never a follow up as I was left once again to solve the problem myself.  Well...I did.  The incompetence of Verizon, it's poor training, and awful follow up procedures has cost them a customer. I am truly disappointed.

  • IPhone 5s won't switch to landscape mode

I have the iPhone 5s (32GB) and the software currently being used is up to date (IOS 7.1.1).
My problem is that my phone won't switch to landscape mode. When I take pictures, it won't turn over, and all other apps, even when I play games like Temple Run, it won't allow the character to move side to side.
I have checked to see if my phone's orientation lock is on, which it is not. I have done a hard reset which did not fix it. I also did a restore where I restored it completely and set it up as a new phone, and restored it and set it up with a backup. Nothing has helped it!!
I don't know what to do, and would much rather figure it out than go to the Apple Store and get it looked at. If you have any knowledge or anything that can potentially help resolve this issue, i'd be very much appreciated!!
    Thanks

try to put it on DFU Mode And Restore Again
if you don't know how to put it
    How to enter DFU mode:
Plug your device into your computer
Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping it off
Hold the power button for 3 seconds
Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds
Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode.

  • Apps won't switch to landscape mode

Many of my apps won't switch to landscape mode (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Yelp).  I know that landscape works on my phone because Photos, Messages, Calculator, etc. will switch to landscape mode.  Also, I don't have the portrait lock on.  The apps used to switch to landscape - what's up?  Could it be because of the new update?

Then the next steps in user troubleshooting are restore from backup, and if necessary restore as new. I would also ask, have you checked to make sure that the Orientation Lock is not on? Check in the status bar to see if you see a small padlock with a circular arrow around it next to the battery status. If so, you turn this off from the Control Center. Swipe upwards from off the bottom of the screen, then Orientation Lock is on the top row all the way to the right. White is on, black is off. I have also read that there is a screen zoom setting, either in Display & Brightness or Wallpaper. I don't have an iPhone 6, so I cannot compare. Supposedly in the zoom setting, it can prevent some things from happening, and I believe landscape orientation was one of them.

  • Switching to Game mode: no MIC in

    I've got this annoying problem:
When I use Mode Switcher (that program where there is a thread about here) or manually switch mode (which in the end is the same since mode switcher just simulates some mouse clicks) to Game Mode, my microphone on Mic2 isn't working. If I switch back to Entertainment mode (I only use Entertainment and Game mode and Entertainment is my default) the mic is back again.
I've checked about twenty times if the recording device wasn't changed and I even run a program that changes the recording device to mic2/linein2 every 30 seconds (some games switch the recording device automatically so this program is really sweet) but still got no sound input from the microphone. I first thought it was because I had already a recording program (like TeamSpeak) running, but that wasn't true. Everytime I switch to Game mode, the microphone on mic2 isn't working.
I also tried switching to an other input device and back again with no success.
The breakout box seems to be still switched on (the optical light is burning and I can hear perfectly with the headset).
I just tested to see if the port Microphone would work, and it does work! but since that is on the back of my computer, I want to use the front mic. And of course, it just should be working.
I've had this problem since a couple of weeks now. Before that it only sometimes happened and with a reboot everything was fine again (sometimes now it is too, but the problem occurs much more frequently).
    Please help!
Update: it was working again, at least I thought, when I reinstalled the drivers. But after another switch, it didn't work anymore and I still can only use my front mic in Entertainment mode. I now almost am positivly sure it is driver related.Message Edited by TheVirus on 05-27-2006 02:45 AM

I'm having a simular problem, I cant get my mic to work in game mode.
I downloaded updated drivers and installed them, but now I cant get that thing by my clock were you can swich modes and have the mixer; however, I can still switch modes in the audio console.
When in entertainment mode my mic sounds fine. When in gameing mode my mic will work some times, but I will get very bad chopy sounds, but most of the times it wont even work.
Reguardless even if I'm in entertainment mode my mic will just stop working at times, and may start working again later. And no its not my mic because i tried another one that I know works.
I'm ready to take out my sound card and smash it!
Any ideas?Message Edited by BattleFish on 05-30-2006 09:27 PM

Decided to start a new discussion hoping someone can help.

I have a problem with screen sharing where the option to "switch to control mode" is greyed out. I can only observe but not control the mac. I have 4 macs at home with the same set up "it looks like the same set up" and it only happens on my wife's new iMac.
    I appreciate your help.

  • Switching to clamshell mode while running

I like to switch between clamshell mode and using the powerbook as a secondary display quite often. But I can't figure out how to switch my powerbook into clamshell mode without first putting it to sleep by closing the lid, and then unplugging and re-plugging in the external display and input devices, which is a hassle (and cancels any current network transfers).
I know I can just dim the powerbook's screen until the backlight switches off, but the display is still active, and using up some of the video memory.
Is there any way to do this?
    PowerBook G4 (15-inch)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Thank you but that wasn't what I was asking.
I can run the powerbook in clamshell mode just fine. However, right now I have the powerbook open (and running) and an external display connected with the desktop spanned across both the powerbook monitor and the external display.
What I would like to do is run the powerbook in clamshell mode without putting it to sleep and waking it back up.
For example, if I'm transferring several gig over the network and decide I want to go into clamshell mode (from screen-spanning mode) I can't do so without cancelling the network transfer.

You need the Gaming APP for switching (not Afterburner): http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/gamingApp.zip
Afterburner is for manual overclocking (for advanced users) if not using the modes.

  • HT204266 iPad works except I cannot access anything at the App Store (Also I have 'no service' in the top left corner that will not change even if I switch the airplane mode on/off)

Recently, my iPad has stopped allowing any functions to be performed in the App Store. I can access but cannot update or acquire any apps.
The rest of the iPad appears to be working other than the 'no service' in the topleft corner. I tried to change that by switching the airplane mode on/off with no luck.

As far as I know this isn't available.
If you know of a windows function which can do this, you can try creating a DLL which will call it (using eVC++) and call that DLL from LV.
