Sync failure

When I try to sync my iPod I always get the following message.
"Attempting to copy to the disk "John" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I restored my iPod to original factory settings and tried to sync again and after two albums synced the above message poped up again. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting document? It may be of some help: "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod

  • Outlook to iPhone sync failure – Sync suddenly stopped working for calendar events but continued for contacts and notes.   Finally Fixed!!!  SUPPORT TEAM – PLEASE SEE THIS – Complete explanation of cause and correction steps.

    The issue:  Outlook to iPhone sync failure – Sync suddenly stopped working for calendar events but continued for contacts and notes.   Finally Fixed!!!
    SUPPORT TEAM – PLEASE SEE THIS – Complete explanation of cause and correction steps.
    The cause:  It is now clear what caused this problem.  For years I had several “all-day” events in my Outlook calendar (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.).  In May 2012 I decided to make some of them one hour  events so I could add alerts to remind me of the event.  I did this by dragging them in Outlook to the time I wanted and expanding them to the time slot desired and then adding the alarm.
    The symptom:  Syncing stopped working for the calendar but continued working for contacts and notes.  I didn’t realize sync was failing until months later when I missed two very important phone calls, so when I noticed it the cause was not obvious.
    The failed attempts:  I’m head of a software firm and my calendar sync is a crucial to my business life so I took this on with a vengeance.  From a quick look at events in Outlook and the iPhone I could see that the problem started in May 2012.  Events before May were in both Outlook and the iPhone but events after May were only one or the other.  Unfortunately I had changed several other things at the same time relating to other events so again the cause was not obvious.  MANY calls with AppleCare proved them incompetent so my internal IT guys assisted trying many things.  We tried a huge number of calendar changes and several versions of iTunes, iPhone OS and Office as well as both iPhone 4 and 5, all without success.
    The fix:  After 18 months of frustration, MANY  hundreds of $ expense and MANY hours of wasted time I saw a blog that had a calendar sync  problem and it indicated all day events were related.  I changed the display of the Outlook calendar to the list view, added columns so I could see “all day” event check marks as well as times of events,  sorted on the “all day” event column to move them to the top, and for all events that were “all day” events AND had a start and end time, I removed recurrence and then added the annual recurrence back…
    After I fixed all events that had BOTH “all day” set and had a start/end time, I tried another sync.  It synced for the first time in 18 months!
    Problem occurred May 2012 – fixed Nov 2013

    Hi, to remove dummy '_ModGrp' entries, rather than crashing the 'Suppr' key on your keyboard, you can use this basic VBA macro (launched for instance from Excel).
    It will recursively remove all '_ModGrp...' folders
    Sub RemoveFolders_Click()
        Dim oOutlook As Outlook.Application
        Set oOutlook = New Outlook.Application
        Set objNameSpace = oOutlook.GetNamespace("MAPI")
        Call CleanFolders(objNameSpace.Folders)
    End Sub
    Sub CleanFolders(objFolders As Outlook.Folders)
        For i = objFolders.Count To 1 Step -1
            If Left(objFolders(i).Name, 7) = "_ModGrp" Then
                objFolders.Remove( i )
            Else
                If Not objFolders(i).Folders Is Nothing Then
                    Call CleanFolders(objFolders(i).Folders)
                End If
            End If
        Next i
    End Sub

  • Bonjour iTunes Wireless Sync Failure

    Looking to see if anyone has experienced any iTunes Wireless Sync issues:  Network setup as follows:
    2504 Wireless Controller running 7.6.100.10 and three 1602 AP's set for LOCAL Mode running CAPWAP, and running a Guest WLAN and a User WLAN.
    We use a wide variety of Mac products (iPad, Mac Mini, AppleTV, iPhones, MacBooks), and are now experiencing iTunes Wireless sync failures.  I have mDNS enabled, mDNS is added to the WLAN's and the interfaces, multicast is tuned on, IGMP snooping enabled, multicast is enabled on the wired infrastructure....the weird thing is all the other Bonjour features are working.  We can push desktops to the AppleTV, Stream Music, Print, share files, etc  iTunes Wireless Sync is not working.  I've been watching the mDNS browser and using the Bonjour Browser on my MacBook and I notice a two odd things:
    1) I never see a a Layer 3 Multicast MGID Entry with the Apple Multicast Network (224.0.0.251) populate in the Multicats Window
    2) I have the service enabled for ITunesWirelessDeviceSharing (_apple-mobdev._tcp.local.) in my mDNS profile but I never see any device use that sting.  While watching the mDNS browser I do occasionally see the follwing: _apple-mobdev2._tcp.local. which is generated from the iPhone 5's.  I copied the string and created a new service and added it to my mDNS profile but still no joy.
    Any advice would be welcomed
    Chad

  • Itry to sync my iphone 5 ,after saying sync succesful sync failure appears

    after getting sync succesful a couple sync failure appears  when trying to sync iphone 5 to car

    I have re-authorised my computer, but not synced yet.
    All Mozy did was to copy everything under C:\Users\Mark Moss\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music, to a backup folder of the same name on mozy.com. So when I restored my hard drive's data, the iTunes was put back.
    Under C:\Users\Mark Moss\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications on my (repaired) laptop, I now don't have any mobile apps listed (I guess I'd forgotten to back those up but in any case they're on my iPhone) so I'm concerned that if I replace my iPhone, I'll lose the apps, which I want to avoid.

  • Sync failure because itunes cannot connect to the sync server PLEASE HELP!!

    HELP! I cannot get my info back into my iphone.
    During sync I get an error message that says 'sync failure because itunes cannot connect to the sync server''
    I have had this problem today so i restored the iphone and it has synched the ipod portion but will not sync calenders, contacts , email accounts or bookmarks.
    The restore erased all of these and now i cannot replace them.
    Thank you in advance for any help in solving this crisis.

    I had the same problem (not from day one but within the past couple months). Anyway, I wish I had made note of everything that the quick-and wonderful-Apple support did when I finally decided to give them a call today-after getting tired of not being able to update calendars and contacts and not seeing any helpful info here-unfortunately, I continue that legacy (as I can't remember everything I had to do to fix-sorry) Ultimately involves creating a new user I called mine IPHONE...then doing some of this and that-and finally merging info and going to "Terminal" and typing in some code...then deleting some of the old files, Took about twenty-minutes on the phone. Sorry I didn't think ahead for others and write al this down...but just know the Apple people were great. I talked to a gal for about ten minutes very methodically trouble-shooting. When nothing worked she shifted me over to a real nice guy who calmly and politely guided me through all the steps to fix this annoying problem. I hate to say it, but just get on the phone and-if you have the same experience as me-you will get 5 Star treatment and your sync will work like a dream. Every time I have to contact Apple Support (which isn't that often) my experience is nothing but the best. Unbelievable customer service! Methodical, Personable, and truly knowledgeable! There is a fix and it works like a dream. Not that hard but you'll need customer service to walk you through it-as I can't (sorry I can't be of much help...) Good luck!

  • Version 1.7.5 Manual Sync Failure

    What is going on with this new update to the Photoshop touch app and the syncing with the creative cloud? How is one supposed to sync manually? All I get is a connection failure. Please help! I don't know what your definition of improved overall experience but this update certainly doesn't provide it. Why has the automatic sync function been removed? Remind me again why I'm paying for creative cloud account. Oh yeah that's right, so I can experience continual frustration and disappointment. Now the Photoshop touch app no longer Sync with a creative cloud.

    I can connect to my Creative Cloud account and upload projects (and even replace them; PS Touch asks me) but I cannot seem to browse and upload to specific folders. When I try to navigate to a specific folder, I get the following error:
    Steps to repro:
    Create a folder in Creative Cloud. (Can be from a browser on a desktop computer, for example.)
    Go through the normal procedure of uploading to Creative Cloud via PS Touch. Try to browse to the specific folder created earlier. As soon as you tap it, you get the specific error above.
    Note I don't really lose connection. I tap OK and it simply puts me in that folder but I cannot use the "Upload" button as it's ghosted out. I can navigate back to the root directory from there and then upload.
    Using a Google Nexus 7 2013 with Android 5.0 (Lollipop).
    ON EDIT: Things I have tried but forgot to include last time; all results ended in no joy:
    Deleting/archiving folders on Creative Cloud and recreated them.
    Deleting/archiving projects in folders on Creative Cloud and tried to republish them in PS Touch.

  • Idisk sync failure

    Main computer Power Book pro. Secondary Power Book G4. Both running 10.5.5 and the same software. idisk synk failure on Power Book G4 - used to work. OK on pro.
    Done all 8 steps recommended in discussion and select contact support; but they are nowhere to be found.
    Deleted files from cloud on Power Book 4, hoping to re-load from idisk. Still sync fails.
    Address, calander etc all work fine, its only the idisk. Seems irresolvable, suspect some files (Vector Works 2009 perhaps) not suitable for sync?
    Any ideas?

    Well, this is the iSync forum, which has nothing to do with iDisk. (iSync is for syncing Contacts and Calendars to a mobile phone).

  • WiFi sync failures

    Ever since the arrival of iOS5 and WiFi sync's much anticipated functionality, it's been unacceptably unreliable. I have 4 iOS devices that need to be kept up-to-date, but it is impossible to achieve this without failures and errors.
    This morning's experience is typical. All 4 devices are listed in iTunes (10.6.1). I downloaded the available app updates and set all 4 devices to sync. Very soon there were 2 error messages, each saying one of the devices could not be sync'd as it couldn't be found on the network - so that's a 50% failure rate. At this point the device disappears from iTunes.
    If I try to sync the devices consecutively it's the same. One or more will produce the above error and disappear from iTunes.
    When a device has disappeared in this way but then connected by USB, it appears in iTunes again and syncs perfectly.
    Even though iTunes says the device cannot be found on the network, this is very misleading since there is NOTHING wrong with the devices' network connection and EVERYTHING else is working perfectly. This crappy behaviour is all the fault of iTunes, or could be iOS5.
    I cannot see how this problem is router related as has been reported elsewhere since this has NOTHING to do with routing. Yes I have a router that connects my LAN to the Internet, but my LAN contains a number of Gigabit switches and AirPort Extreme basestations for WiFi access. Nothing strange about that and as I say, it all works perfectly except for iTunes which manages to lose these devices even though they are still on the network and networking perfectly.
    It is also NOTHING to do with DHCP since the IP addresses are not changing on ANY of the devices involved.
    After a device has disappeared from iTunes, it will at some time re-appear, but I've not been able to determine any pattern of when they will be back.
    I have to say it is VERY disappointing when Apple fail so utterly at something as fundamentally reliable as IP networking. Obviously they are trying to do something clever with these connections, but have failed miserably. Having said that, I don't believe everyone is suffering from these issues, but I also doubt I am the only one. With several iTunes updates since the introduction of iOS5, I would have hoped this would be fixed by now, but it's not.
    So, does anyone have any answers to this? Is there some fix that can be applied that enables iTunes to maintain contact with the iOS devices?

    Well, iOS 6 is with us and Mountain Lion and also iTunes 11 and guess what, STILL NOT FIXED.
    With only 2 devices listed out of the 6 that should be there (both those had USB connections at the time) I turned off WiFi on the Mac. This doesn't affect it's networking capability since it also has a wired connection to a Gigabit switch to which the WiFi base stations (AirPort Extreme dual band) are also connected. I then turned WiFi back on and the Devices button in iTunes showed the spinning daisy wheel and soon it showed 6 devices connected, even though it took several minutes for the daisy wheel to go away.
    So this raises the question of what connection method is used by iTunes for it's "Sync over WiFi" option. It has been my belief (and many others on this forum) that the iTunes Mac does not need WiFi as it simply uses the IP network, however that may physically connect, but switching WiFi off then on again on my Mac, causing the devices to re-appear in iTunes would indicate that WiFi is indeed in some way required.
    I then started a sync with an iPad 3 (not connected with USB) and it's taking ages. Every step exaggeratedly slow. This is I think the first sync with iTunes 11, is that the problem? No idea, but so far it's not lost the connection, just taking over half an hour just to upload a few updated apps.
    However, what IS obvious is the fact that the latest versions of all the software involved has not produced a cure. How widespread is the problem? What are the factors that determine whether iOS devices disappear from iTunes or not? It would appear that for some users, WiFi syncing is OK, so why do so many others find it so incredibly flaky?
    Then there's also the question of the relevance of WiFi on the iTunes Mac. If the connection is just using Ethernet and is not wired or wireless specific, why does switching WiFi on cause iTunes to connect to the iOS devices.
    Overall this is very unsatisfactory performance by Apple.

  • User profile service incremental sync failure

    Hi all, I'm working for a client that has a failing UPS incremental sync. The scheduled sync was running fine until a couple of weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working. Coincidently, this was also at the same time that they noticed the incremental search

    The management agent appears in FIM, but isn’t displayed in SharePoint CA (UPS SA). At present we have a few test MA’s that appear in FIM but not in SharePoint CA (UPS SA).
    I’m at a loss as to why this incremental sync has stopped working. It’s also strange that test sync connections are appearing in FIM despite error displayed in CA when provisioning them. Stranger sill, the test sync connections don’t appear in CA, but appear
    in FIM.
    Potential next steps include resetting the profile synchronization DB as detailed here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff681014(v=office.14).aspx#resetSync. If anyone has had any other suggestions, I’d be very grateful to hear about

    Many thanks

    Try to start full sync,and if it also stop with the same error - try to reset Sync DB using this script:
    $SyncDB = "<Sync DB name>"
    $UserProfilesName = "<User Profile Service Application name>"
    net stop sptimerv4
    $SDB=Get-SPDatabase | where {$_.Name -eq $SyncDB}
    $SDB.Unprovision()
    $SDB.Status='Offline'
    $UPS = Get-SPServiceApplication | where {$_.Displayname -eq $UserProfilesName }
    $UPS.ResetSynchronizationMachine()
    $UPS.ResetSynchronizationDatabase()
    $SDB.Provision()
    net start sptimerv4

  • Cannot open presentation after sync failure

    Hi,
    My internet connection dropped whilst I was saving my Keynote presentation to my .Mac account and now I can't open the file either offline or online.
    Does anyone know if there is a backup created as I've been working on this presentation for two weeks and don't want to start again.
    Thanks in advance
    Kai

    I solved it.
    I made sure my second Mac didn't sync with .Mac when I got home, so at least I had one copy, but without the days changes which were lost.

  • Constant sync failure on one of three devices

    I have a MBP, an iPad 2, and iPad Mini (2011), and an iPhone 5s.
    I have a number of books obtained through iTunes, but most of the items I have in iBooks are EPUBs or PDFs I've created myself (e.g. exported from a Pages document). So mostly they're created on the mac and added to iBooks there.
    Ideally I want to keep the whole iBooks library in sync across the four devices. But the most critical one is the iPad mini, which happens to be most recent acquisition.
    Now the problem - Sync (wifi or USB) mostly works between the mac and both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5s. But I have no end of trouble getting it to work with the mini. I add an epub or two to iBooks on the mac, and then sync. I can sync over and over and the new files never get to the mini. (I can get them there by another route using 'Dropbox > Open In....', but I'm really hoping to get it happening with fewer steps than that - which I can easily on the other devices).
    I can readily identify what's different about syncing with the mini, but I can't for the life of me see how to change it. With both the iPad 2 and the iPhone - the books tab in iTunes is set to sync "All books". That's how I want it, and it stays that way. But with the iPad mini, it repeatedly defaults back to "Selected books". It doesn't seem to matter how many times I run the sync, pressing 'apply', 'sync' or both - it repeatedly 'jumps' back from "all books" to "selected books". It does it at the end of a sync or in the middle! But it always does it, and if I come back and try again later it's always on "selected books" when I find it, even if I had changed it back to "all books" last time. As I said this only happens witn the mini, not either of the other two.
    I'm at a loss. Ideas, anyone?

    Thanks picas.
    OK. Tried the first reset. That seemed to fix it on one sync. But then on the next sync, the problem was back.
    Before I try the 'reset all settings' - it's a while since I've done this sort of stuff ... Would I stand to lose any data with that one? Should I do a backup to my mac first? Just wanting to be sure first ... Thanks.

  • Blue Tooth to Palm Desktop Sync failure

    Hi;
    I have 2 Tungsten t3s.  I installed the Palm Desktop then the IOGear Bluetooth driver/software. All ran and synced fine.
    I use XP Pro Service pack 2 - duo core Intel 2.66ghz with 2gbs ram.
    Been having problems with pc locking up other weirdness; ALL PRIOR to getting and installing Palm Desktop & Bluetooth.
    Decided to format hard drive and reinstall XP Pro (Serv. Pack 2 -- don't use Serv Pack 3 -- too many problems). Reinstalled
    all my usual software again.  All clean installation.  System running great - no problems at all.
    Happily proceeded to install Palm Desktop, then installed Bluetooth.  PC Bluetooth found PDA - PDA found PC.   They paired just fine with security codes and all else but couldn't connect with Palm Desktop!! Uninstalled both completely; reinstalled (this Time) Bluetooth first, then Palm Desktop.  Still no sync. Bluetooth finds PDA and PDA finds PC but can't connect to Palm Desktop. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times -- (cleaned registry & deleted Palm folders) both Palm software & bluetooth to no avail. Tried same setup on two other pcs -- still no connection to Palm Desktop.  I repeat all worked fine before.  I am somewhat of a PC tech; have setup, built and repaired 100's pcs; have never dealt with bluetooth before.

    If the same problem is happening on different PCs then it's the device. If you have the data backed up then it's time to hard reset the device.
