Syncing podcast playlist

I've subscribed to a podcast and made several smart playlists to play them in a certain order. This works fine on my old iPod (Classic). Now I'm trying to get these on my new iPod Nano.
I can sync the podcast to the Nano, the files are there and I can play them. When I look under 'Playlists', it tells me that there are 6 playlists, as there should be. But I can't get any further: I can't see the names of the playlists, nor can I access their contents (which are the podcast episodes that are on the Nano anyway).
I don't get any error messages, there is enough space on the Nano to hold the playlists.
What am I doing wrong?

I just got a nano for the explicit reason of playing podcasts continuously. I ran into the exact same issue as you. I know the playlists are there but I couldn't play them.
I also have a TomTom (GPS) with the cable to connect to an ipod. I connected them and in the TomTom, it can see the playlists fine and play them.
After I disconnect the nano, I can continue to play the playlist (in correct order and everything, just like I could with the 5.5 classic iPod which died recently). This is under "now playing" in the main menu.
It's frustrating because now after every sync with iTunes, I attach it to the TomTom so I can use the thing properly.
It's not a good solution. I should have looked here before I bought the nano.

  • Some Podcast Playlists not syncing from itunes to ipod

There's no problem with the actual podcasts syncing to my ipod and they play on the ipod.  The playlists are the same in both itunes and the list of podcast playlists on the ipod tab in itunes.  I've reset the plays, deselected and reselected, set them to not auto delete.  I've 'Marked as Watched' and then 'Marked as Unwatched'.  All the playlists are set up the same way.  I've tried sycing using both methods of 1, using the 'File> Devices>Sync xxxx etc and 2, the sync tab in bottom right corner of the 'Podcasts' tab(ipod tab in itunes when ipod connected).

    Just a stab:
The song titles need to have a check mark next to them in order to sync.
    Thanks ... Ken

  • Sync problem: playlists of podcasts

I have podcasts that i've assigned to playlists. the assignments are visible in iTunes. And when the iPod is attached, the playlists (greyed out) also appear to be on the iPod. However, when I disconnect, the podcast playlists are not present on the iPod. They're not under music/playlists, and there does not appear to a podcast/playlist - only the primary podcast that has successfully synced with iTunes.

    I'm sorry, I don't understand your request.
I don't have a solution - I'm the one who is asking whether anyone knows how to sync a smart playlist of pdfs to an iPad.

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • Classic will no longer sync podcasts with video.  I get sound only

    Hi
I was haveing a great time with my ipod. Watching podcasts of all sorts. Then it stopped syncing podcasts (music is fine). I got error messages sometimes saying cannot sync as disc cannot be found.
Then out of the blue it sunk some podcasts but with sound only. The downloaded podcasts show in podcast library and also I have copied them to a playlist I made myself called 'podcasts'. I did this once before but it disappeared. I am not desperate to save any of these current pods so dont mind dumping the lot ~(not music) and starting again if necessary.
Please help, this is driving me nuts. No really techi advice please. Simple English would be great.
    Thanks in anticipation

Found out that my iPod was hanging on the photos not Outlook. Deleted the iPod Cashe and problem is sloved.

  • Podcast playlist no longer works

I just synced my ipod nano, and my podcast playlist no longer works. This seems to be due to an upgrade to iTunes 9. It seems to only want to deal with music files in playlists, not podcasts. What am I doing wrong?

Found an answer in the following thread:

  • Won't sync podcasts in Vista, but will sync music

    Vista x64 build 5744. Itunes 7.0.1
Everytime I sync the ipod and go into the podcast section of the ipod via itunes and set it to sync podcasts and hit apply I get the following error:
The ipod "archer75's iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50).
Any ideas on how to fix this? I mainly use my ipod for listening to podcasts.

Thank you for your response. Yes, it very well could've been iTunes 9.
Okay, I got the first part of your workaround. I unchecked the "Automatically include" checkbox in the Podcasts tab.
However I don't see where "Include Episodes from Playlists" option is. I've checked my playlist I want to sync in the Music tab under Playlists, but I obviously need to do something else because it's still not syncing. Where do I find that?

  • Can't sync podcasts ios7.0.3 - terrible

Just got my 5S with iOS 7.0.3 and I can't sync a single podcast.
I'm using Windows 7 Pro, iTunes 11.1.1.11, Podcast App 2.0
I have a large quantity of downloaded podcasts that I've been syncing for years
with iPods, iPhones, and iPads - everything has worked perfectly until now.
I do not sync/download podcasts from within an app - I have a separate
program on my PC to download and manage them.
I do not subscribe to Podcasts via my Apple products or iTunes because my wife and I share
    our libraries.
(Meaning using an alternative app like Downcast will not work as it cannot sync existing podcasts via iTunes)
No matter what I do, as long as Podcasts are of Kind "Podcast", they won't sync.
    I've tried:
    1) Uninstalling/reinstalling the Podcast App multiple times
    2) Syncing podcasts 'Automatically' with every option - 'all', 'all unplayed', 'recent unplayed', etc, etc
    3) 'Include Episodes from Playlists'
    4) and more.
After syncing, I've noticed in iTunes, under my Device, I can see all the podcasts in either the 'Podcast' link or the various Playlists (depending on what I've tried)
However, the Podcast App on the iPhone simply will not show them - as groups, or playlists, or anything.
The most I've ever gotten is a single Podcast mislabeled and with the wrong Artwork.
If I change all my Podcasts to Kind "Music" (or 'Audiobook') then I can get them into the Music player, but then I lose all my storage organization in iTunes - the 'Podcast' Library item becomes useless.
I've been an Apple user since the Apple II so I'm no nubie.
This is the worst junk Apple has ever turned out - whoever worked on it should be fired immediately - and I mean coders, managers, directors - all of them.
All I want to do is sync Podcasts from my PC library to my BRAND NEW EXPENSIVE iPhone the same way I can with music.
Does anyone have any ideas what else to do?

    UPDATE:
I have *kind of* solved the problem.
Basically the problem is a lack of proper ID3 Tags in the old podcast files.
I've read a lot other threads and articles and this is what you can do.
    1) Download and install Mp3tag - it's a free Tag editing utility
    2) Using Mp3tag, open the podcast file or directory with the old podcasts
    3) Select 1 or more podcasts in the list and then 'Extended Tags' (right click or View -> Extended Tags)
    4) Add the following tags and values if they don't exist:
         a) tag=COMMENT ITUNPGAP  value=0
         b) tag=PODCAST  value=1
         c) tag=PODCASTURL  value=<use the actual URL i.e. http://sawbones.libsyn.com/rss>
         d) tag=PODCASTID  value=<any value as long as it's the same for all related podcasts  i.e. 'Sawbones'>
    5) Save the changes
    6) After saving all the new tags, re-add the podcasts to iTunes and everything should work properly.
The only problem is that you have to do this for every podcast downloaded from any source that is not iTunes.
More about PODCASTURL - I've found that you need the actual URL, not just any text. I found the URL by Subscribing to the podcast in iTunes, downloading one podcast, then examining it in Mp3tag and copying the URL. If you do it this way, your old podcasts will group properly with any new ones downloaded from iTunes.
If someone has more details for this process please add it to this thread!
For example, the tags PODCASTID and COMMENT ITUNPGAP may be unnecessary - I haven't taken the time to find out.
(Please don't ask me to teach you how to use Mp3tag - it's easy - read the manual)

  • IPad won't sync podcasts marked 'explicit'

I've had tons of trouble syncing podcasts to my iPad2. I thnave 21 appearing in iTunes, and on the iPad as it's listed in iTunes. But on the actual iPad there are only 5 showing. Is it a coincidence that these are the only 5 that are not marked 'explicit?' Is there a setting I can change that will allow the podcasts to sync to my iPad?
I've created both a regular and a smart playlist, plus just allowed the podcasts to sync as normal. It's always seemed pretty random which ones actually show up on the iPad or not. But today I noticed the 'explicit' thing.
Please help! This is driving me crazy not being able to listen to all my podcasts.

in iTunes or on the iPad? (will be doing both, as I'm sitting here but thought I'd check...)
YOU FIXED IT! Thank you...I didn't realize I had a restriction set on the iPad. All podcasts are showing now.

  • Where do I find my Podcast Playlists?

    Hi there,
I am a Podcast Lover and I created several playlists, many of them "intelligent", some of them even connected / dependend to each other. This provided me a convenient set of radio talk shows mixed with music.
Now, with iOS6 I can't find my playlists: Can't see them in the App "Musik" and I can't find them in the App "Podcasts". Has Apple ever considered customers that make use of playlists?
    thank you,
    masa

    Hi paulafromprescott,
So you have chosen to sync selected playlist to your iPod but don't see where to make those selections.
In the left sidebar you should be able to select Music to see the music pane and select from there.

  • Can I create a smart podcast playlist for my iPod?

I'm trying to find a way to create a smart podcast playlist that will work on my iPod. I'm able to do this in iTunes, but when I sync my iPod, the playlists don't transfer. Right now I've got two playlists in a new folder, and I can't even find the folder under my playlists tab in my iPod.
I've seen some pretty lengthy work-arounds that require you to create a separate playlist for each podcast, and then combining all of those playlists together into a new playlist. But it can't be that complicated, can it?

Thank, that took care of it. I guess I just assumed that I'd be able to organize podcasts in the folders under the Playlist tab. It's weird that it won't let us do that.

  • How NOT to sync podcasts?

I'm trying to figure out how to prevent iTunes from copying all of my podcasts to my iPod mini. Since I installed iTunes 6, all of my podcasts get copied over to my iPod, even though I've set iTunes to only sync specific playlists. I keep running out of space on my iPod because all the podcasts take up all the space. I prefer to listen to the podcasts on my computer, so I don't want them on my iPod.
I've managed to slightly minimize the problem by setting itunes to only copy the most recent episode of the podcasts (instead of all unlistened ones), but I can't figure out how to prevent it from syncing any podcasts at all.

I don't wnat podcasts on my iPod, either.
I have my iPod options > Podcasts tab set to manually manage podcasts.

  • IPod Touch Podcast Playlist Issue

I have a brand new iPod Touch and my podcast playlist has disappeared off my device. Twice.
When I plug it into my computer, I see the playlist in iTunes as if nothing has happened. Episodes were initially downloaded through iTunes and transferred onto the iPod. They were updating fine until yesterday when it was syncing up the data and the playlist showed zero episodes.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Delete all podcasts and resync
To delete all Podcasts go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Podcasts and delete them if you can
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Syncing podcasts

I listen to a lot of podcasts.  To sync them, I open iTunes (version 10.5), select my playlist "Podcast" and unselect the ones I have listen to.  Then I select the podcast library and click update. All the new podcast then go into my podcast playlist.  I rearrange the podcast in the order I want them to play.  When I sync the iPod Touch the order of play would be maintained on the iPod.
But sInce I updated to IOS5 on my iPod Touch and 10.5 on iTunes the order of play is no longer maintained.  All the podcasts are there but not in the order I placed them in.  It did that one other time and it was a setting but I cannot remember what setting.  Anyone remember?
    Thanks for your help
    Larry

Update, I now cannot change the order of play in iTunes.  I clicked on something and it has locked the order of play.
