Syncing with USB 1.1 on an older PowerBook

Looking for anyone with SPECIFIC experience using their iPhone on a PowerBook G4 800MHz with USB 1.1 ports. Have you had any problems syncing? Appreciate your help.

I have an iMac G4 and I was finally able to get it synced. I had to do little bits of information at a time. Actually it took me a few hours to sync 200 songs, playlists and 300 photos. DIdn't even try videos! But it worked. Patience and lots of re-tries. It froze a lot.
Now I have to do it all over again because I have a bad battery issue and need to get the iPhone replaced. Urgh!
Good luck.

  • My Mac Mini will charge - but not sync with - USB-connected devices (ipod, camera, memory card reader). How do I fix it?

My Mac Mini will charge - but not sync with - USB-connected devices (ipod, camera, memory card reader). I have tried unplugging the devices, restarting the computer, selectively unplugging and plugging in the devices, closing and opening the relevant applications (iTunes, iPhoto, etc). I have tried using different USB cables.
It's like all of a sudden the synching service stopped functioning or recognizing these devices for some reason. The other ports work just fine (monitor).
The only USB-connected external device that appears to be unaffected is the USB SuperDrive and it works on all the USB ports into which I plug it.
    How do I fix this?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens or doesn't happen.

  • Syncing with USB 1.1

I was having issues getting my wife's iPhone to sync with an iMac G4 800MHz. After reading several of the posts, I tried using a USB 2.0 hub instead of connecting directly to the iMac. That resolved the data corruption I was getting when importing photo's into iPhoto, but it did not resolve the syncing issue with iTunes. What I finally did was uncheck the automatic sync feature in iTunes. Once I did this, everything seemed to work much better. Really slow to sync music, but that doesn't change very often.
Yeah, BTW, everything worked much better before the last couple of updates.

Also, try unplugging as many USB devices (i.e. printer, keyboard, mouse, etc.) as you can, so that iPhone is the only thing using USB. Works much better for me.

  • My speed syncing with USB 1.1

I have a PowerBook that does not have USB 2.0, so I held back getting an iPod nano until I heard from others in my shoes. I didn't want to have it take hour after hour to update. Well, I heard from others that it wasn't that bad, and now I can attest to that. I loaded 3.2 GB of songs, about 575 of them, in just over 1 hour total. I then put about 300 photos (not the full pics too, just the thumbnails) in a few minutes.
I would estimate that each typical 4-minute song took about 5 seconds to load. So my weekly sync won't be more than a few minutes to load up my Podcasts and any new songs.
In other words, if you have USB 1.1 and you are worried about using the nano, it's not that bad. Sure 2.0 will be nicer by far, and I wish FireWire was possible in such a tiny device, but I'm pleased that USB 1.1 wasn't as bad as I feared.

My home system is running Windows XP, and the USB port I happened to plug my Nano into is v1.1. Although I get a message every time I plug in my Nano ("Hey, bud - this will work FASTER with a USB 2.0..."), I have had absolutely no problems downloading/syncing using iTunes (both downloaded music and copying my own CDs).

  • How can I get pictures on iPhone to photostream with iCloud?  I can't sync with my Mac because it is older.

I have an older mac so I know I can't photostream due to it not even having iPhoto .. but the real dilemna is how in the heck do I get my photos on my iPhone 4 to photostream with iCloud?  I have it turned on ... on my iPhone and still nothing in iCloudf???  So frustrated!

Select your iPhone and under Options, check "Sync only checked songs and videos". This option actually also applies to Books, and all other media types. If they aren't already showing, go to iTunes>Preferences...>Show list views for all media and also Show list checkboxes. Then go to your Books section and select List view. Uncheck the books you do not want synced, and then sync your iPhone. Repeat for your iPad.
Also, all newly added Books will automatically be checked. Hope you like that.

  • Sync with USB 1

A while ago I mistakenly plugged the iphone to a USB 1 port and was given an error message. No problem. I mistakenly plugged it into the work port and proceeded to plug it into a USB 2.0 and no worries.
Today, I accidentally plugged the iphone into a USB 1 again, and it worked! Albeit slowly than normal. Anyone else notice this change?

Since new, my iPhone has been used with a USB1.1 port and it's worked perfectly well - the 1.0.1 update improved the reliability with which iTunes opened (it didn't always before) and I still get the warning when connecting that the device is not compatible and do I want to switch to airplane mode, but clicking 'no' to that leaves the iPhone working perfectly well and able to sync. Slowly, but that's to be expected of course.

  • Sync with USB pendrive in KDE

    Hello,
When i insert an USD memory, KDE correctly detects it and open a konqueror window with the USB content. Perfect. Then, i copy various MB to it. Perfect. Close the window, right-click over the icon and select "Safety extract" (i've translated it, as i've KDE in spanish), and a moreless 0,3 sec. later, the icon disappears.
It seems that all the process was OK but it isn't. When extracting the USB, inserting again all the MB of data that  were copied aren't in the USB.
What really happened was that the sync operation is not made when i copy the files, umouting instead. But, as the icon in the desktop dissapears, it appears that i can safely remove the USB. The copy process is done after that icon have dissapeared, as the lights of the USB keep "flashing". If i remove the USB when that lights stops, and insert again, the files have been copied.
Well, the question is how can i make to avoid that the device icon dissapears unless the copy process finished ok... or isn't this the normal behaviour?
I think that this can be controlled moreless with fstab, but i haven't no entry in fstab related to extraible devices, as with pmount is no necessary, so, any solution?
Searching the forum found similar questions but not exactly this.

A provisional trick that "solves" it.
In KDE, i've set up the option that in the desktop only must appear mounted devices. I changed it, so an ummounted USB is shown in the desktop too.
With this "trick", when i "safely extract", happens this:
    - Select safely extract
    - In 0,3 seconds the "green" avatar (is mounted) dissapears.
    - The USB device keeps on in the desktop, but as if it was umounted
    - No progress bar
    - When all the copy process has finished, the icon disappears

  • Sync with USB or UTP/wired-LAN?

    Hi,
I'm seriously considering to buy an AppleTV. Now, the only question is concerning how the movies being sync into the Apple TV.
I'm running a PC with WinXP and do not have wireless devices. I see that AppleTV has a USB port and also an Etnernet port for wired LAN. Can I connect the Apple TV to my PC via either the USB or the Ethernet port and then sync (or copy) the movies to Apple TV?
If not, then I may need also to buy a wireless adapter for my PC. It will be on additional cost.

    Can I connect the
Apple TV to my PC via either the USB or the Ethernet
port and then sync (or copy) the movies to Apple TV?
Yes using Ethernet; no using USB.

  • Sync with USB 1.1 slow - any firewire to usb 2.0 adapters out there?

I know its been covered how slow the new nano is with USB1.1 but wow. Glacial. The G4 we use as a iTunes station has firewire. Is there a Firewire to USB 2.0 adapter?

I do have a G5 which is my work station. The G4 is my wife's computer and her iPod/iTunes station.

  • My ipod won't sync with my desktop

I have an ipod touch with iclouds recently installed which syncs with both my new Macbook & my older Mac desktop. I only want to use icloud to sync my address book and my iCal. I have another solution for syncing my mail and it didn't appear that I could sync my notes via iCloud because my old desktop doesn't seem to support it (it doesn't appear in the System Preferences) - it's 10.6.8.
I read another thread about a problem like this, but it was no help. I've done everything suggested when iTunes does not see the device. I also got one of those unknown error messages once. I tried syncing my icloud and then reconnecting - unplugging, replugging, restarting both my ipod touch and my desktop - still itunes doesn't see it.
I also am now getting a "Charging is not supported with this accessory" warning - I had that before but it's intermittent, so I'm now charging it with my outlet adapter.
I need to transfer a recent note in my iPod to my desktop, but iTunes doesn't see it. Any help would be appreciated.
BTW, the other thread said to empty all trash. How do you empty the trash in the ipod touch? I don't see any trash in there.
Also in that thread, someone said, "After you sync with the Cloud and everything goes well, then change it back to the USB option but you must complete the sync with the Cloud if you messed around with the settings." I don't see a sync button or anything - it seems I just have to wait for it to sync. I also don't see a USB option. I've always just plugged it in and it synced. I've had the ipod touch for a couple of years and its OS & software is updated, but the Macbook is new & so is the icloud.
If iCloud is a constant problem, is there another way to sync my address book & iCal between 2 computers that are not connected via wifi? I can't sync my ipod touch with 2 computers.
Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

I discovered that my cord was bad. I used someone else's cord and then it worked - that's how I was able to determine it was the cord, so I replaced it. (In case someone else has a similar problem.)
BTW, I'm still having a problem syncing my iCal, so I posted that problem in the iCal forum. If you think you can help, please look for my message there.

  • Usb composite device is an older usb device and might not work in USB 3

I recently bought one Lenovo Yoga 2 11 laptop running Windows 8.1 (64 bit).
When I try to connect my old Brother MFC-3240C printer using USB (2.0), it doesn’t work.
    Below are the steps performed:
Connected the printer to USB 2.0 port on laptop (on the right side). Automatically installed the printer driver (no exclamation mark beside printer icon)
When the printer didn’t print, I tried to use troubleshoot as below:
Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices and Printers->Right Click on Printer Icon->Troubleshoot.
It came up with USB composite device is an older usb device and might not work in USB 3.0
Removed the printer and re-installed the driver. It is all the same.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
FYI – the same printer works fine with my older laptops running Windows 7.

Already checked Brothers website for the printer drivre for Windows 8.1 (64 bit).
It says ... The built-in driver is already included with Windows® Operating System or is available through Windows® update.
So, installed the default driver for the printer that is available with Windows 8.1.
Even connected the printer with USB 3.0 port on the laptop, but it is all the same.

  • Syncing Classic with USB killed docking station for my Nano

I have two libraries in Itunes, one for music and one for books. I use my Nano for music. After I organized a second library for books, I bought a Classic. It uses a USB cable. After my first hookup of the Classic, syncing the book library. The firewire docking station for my Nano no longer will connect that Ipod to Itunes. I can charge, but not sync. Is this a new feature from Apple or does Itune now only recognize Ipod thru the USB port? I can sync the Nano with USB, but I like the docking station

I do not think that your USB docking station is faulty. I use it all the time.
What killed my ipods (resulting in exactly your problem) was the update to firmware 1.1.2. I am on my fifth !! ipod classic (courtesy of technical support/ genius bar at the apple store) as they are not as solid as the older models and
may go wrong quicker, despite much more enhanced functions. Touch wood mine is working fine now.
In the mean time, you could try a hard/factory reset of your ipod:
    apple doc: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
Interesting may also be "hidden" ipod commands:
    http://www.command-tab.com/2006/03/30/hidden-ipod-commands/
    Hope you can sort it.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.
