Syntax or Flag to enable automatically "Highlight Fields" in Adobe Reader

Hi all.
I'm searching for a syntax or a flag in LiveCycle Designer that enables you the option "Highlight Fields" automatically in Adobe® Reader® 7+.
Is it possible to do that?
Thank you for your help.
Regards Corsin

"app.runtimeHighlight" holds the value and you may turn on by setting it to 'true' or off by setting it to 'false'.
In my case I set it to off at form:ready event.
if (app.runtimeHighlight == true) app.runtimeHighlight = false;
Good Luck,

Shift + U is not working
how can i change shortcut key?

I don't believe there is a keyboard shortcut available for that feature. But I believe if you click-select the topmost chapter, and Shift-click the bottommost chapter, it should select them all.
Other shortcuts for books can be set up in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts in the Panel Menus product area. There are no default shortcuts in that area.

I am unable to use Highlight Tool in Adobe Reader X. Please suggest me solutions.

    Hi -graffiti
Thank you again for your 10.24 post.  I tried your suggestions today.  The university computer lab i use has Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.  The OCR function is under the dropdown menu "Documents>>Paper Capture".  This permits conversion a scanned page to searchable text.  Before beginning it asks you to select 1 of 2 Settings defined as:  "Primary OCR Language English", or "PDF Output Style:  Searchable Image (Exact)".  That is the only choice to be made before conversion begins.  After the conversion you can review and correct suspect words on captured pages.  I tried both choices and regardless of which ended up with a document that was searchable, but still would not permit highlighting (I selected text with the highlight tool, clicked and dragged over a captured page, and nothing happened, same result as my earlier post).  If I search for a particular word, all occurrences become shade-highlighted but if I expressly attempt to highlight a word with the highlighter it won't do it.
Do you have any suggestions as to how I might further massage the data?

    email [email protected]

Thanks. The PDF file was made from a web site article and I guess this is the same as scanned as I cannot highlight.  The cursor changes but cannot highlight what I want.
I was able to add text and I did this in Red and will ask the VA to read under the sections marked in Red.
    Thanks,

  • Enable "Automatically Install Updates" on Custom Reader XI Install

    Hi,
How would one go about enabling "Automatically Install Updates" in Preferences to be the default value for "Check for Updates" in a custom installation for Adobe Reader XI?  I've used the customization wizard, but the only setting built in that I see is to disable updates all together.  Thank you!

No idea, but I'm shocked this hasn't been an option yet.
Adobe is *so* close to being where I want them to be in regards to automatic updates in many regards.
Flash automatically updates itself flawlessly...*except* that users are spammed with an "upgrade now" box when it's a x or y version level upgrade. ( ex. 11.4 -> 11.5 ) I really just want it to upgrade. Don't even talk to my users. They don't have Admin anyhow.
As for Acrobat and Reader, it seems they have the option to silently upgrade without admin privledges now, BUT, it doesn't seem to be possible to set this with Adobe's own Group Policy, which is weird. It also seems you are unable to automatically select it after a silent install for when the machine is off a domain. The Adobe Customization wizard doesn't even seem to address this.

  • Open comment pop-ups for highlighted text (on Adobe Reader for Android)

On my computer, I use the software Docear which allows to import highlighted text and comments from pdf documents. This function in Docear only works, if the reader copies highlighted text into the comment fields at the moment of highlighting. When using a reader on a PC, the settngs can be adjusted in order that this works. (Preferences>Commenting>Automatically open comment pop-ups for comments other than notes).
It would be very practical for me to do this on my tablet (Android). However, as far as I know, this is not possible in the Adobe Reader for Android. Or is there any possibility to do this? If not, would it be possible to include this on a wishlist?

    Hi,
This functionality is not available for Adobe Reader on Android. However, we have made a note of the same and shall try to incorporate it in one of our future releases.
    Thanks,

  • Can't sign signature fields in Adobe Reader XI

Using Adobe Acrobat X (not the Pro edition!) Dutch (NL) Language Edition  I created a document with two signature fields. Afterwards I tried to save as "Reader Extended". (The only option I found under "Save As" that looked similar to this command in my Dutch language version was "Uitgebreide PDF Reader" (this means "Extended PDF Reader") and then "Formulieren inschakelen en opslaan in Adobe Acrobat".  This last option means literally "Enable forms and save in Adobe Acrobat".)
When I opened the document in Adobe Reader XI (Dutch version again), the two signature fields are clearly visable, but do nothing when I click on them.
I've Googled extensively and also read the other topics on this FAQ which deal with similar problems, but to no avail... Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

After doing more testing, the Page Open event works in Reader but is very slow updating the result page that has the code and uses the Page Open event.
In Acrobat happens instantly, but in Reader takes a loooong time, sometimes seems that doesn't even update, as it takes forever. Wonder if my Reader's settings are screwed up?
Basically you have two pages, page one with a 4-choice radio button and, page two with a text field to report the value of the selected button choice.
Page two has the following code as Page Opens:
         var buttonV = this.getField("Group1").value;
         getField("Text1").value = buttonV;

  • Why can't I highlight PDFs on Adobe Reader from my PC?

I understand that if documents don't permit it, you can't highlight. However my friend's with Mac computers can highlight on every PDF document that they try to. Yet if I try to highlight on the exact same document I can't. Why can people with Macs do this and my PC can't? We have the same updated version of Adobe Reader. I'm very confused.

Thank you for trying to help. We have compared security mode settings and their Macs say that commenting is allowed, while mine says it's not allowed. I'm assuming this is why I can't highlight and they can. But I dont understand why they're different? The files this happens to are PDFs that our college classes assign as reading- so we all go to the same place to access these PDFs and save them, so the security modes shouldn't be different, but they are. Any idea why? Are Macs just enabled to do this for whatever reason and PCs aren't?

  • Opening a pdf in Acrobat 9 automatically instead of in adobe Reader

I have both Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 Pro in my PC. When I double-click a pdf file, it'll be opened automatically in Reader 9. Then I notice that when I right-click over a pdf filename, 'Open with Adobe Reader 9' comes before 'Open with Acrobat 9'. How/Where do I change/reset a preference to have a pdf opened automatically in Acrobat 9 when I double-click a pdf?

Unfortunately, it's not that simple because Acrobat and Reader share files, and that's why Adobe recommends not to have them both installed in the same machine.

  • Highlight text in adobe reader for android

    Dear Adobe Reader Team,
I've had a problem with my adobe reader for android version 11.5.0
It's not highlighting any text or doesn't even select it when I scroll over.
Kindly help me with this Problem.
    Thank you in advance.

It sounds like you have a scanned PDF document.  Because a scanned PDF document contains images of text (not real text), you will not be able to select text or highlight it.  You can still add Freehand drawing and/or sticky notes to a scanned PDF document.
To recognize text in a scanned PDF document, you need to run special Text Recognition software.  Adobe Acrobat (a paid product) offers the capability, where as free Adobe Reader products do not.

  • Form doesn't update fields in Adobe Reader XI

I created a form in Acrobat X Pro, it has a bunch of radio buttons the user must select. The last page is the results page, which has JS code that is executed when entering the page. If I test the form in Acrobat X, the results page properly updates the results fields as soon as you enter the page.
But if I open the page in Adobe Reader XI, the fields in the result page will not update until I save the page. This didn't happened before, forms always behaved the same in Acrobat and Reader. I also tested forms I created months ago, and had the same result.
Does anybody know what's going on here?  Thank you.

  • How do I highlight text in adobe reader PDF files?

Hi, I am Samyak Veera From US.
By highlight I mean changing the colour of the selected text, like the function in word. Or do I have to paste the whole article into word to highlight it? How it possible.
    Thanks
    Samyak Veera

Highlighting and changing the text color is not the same thing!
Adobe Reader can highlight text by using the Highlight tool.  This can only be done one real text, not "text" on a scanned image.
To change the text color you will need Acrobat.

  • Issue tabbing through form fields on Adobe Reader 9.2

Hello everyone.  I am having an issue that I am hoping someone can assist me with.  We are currently using IE6 and Reader 5.5 in our production environment and we are currently testing IE8 and Adobe Reader 9.2 for deployment.  Our company uses a web portal where we have many pdf forms that open within a web browser. The problem we are experiencing is that when tabbing through fields on the pdf, the cursor will eventually cycle down to the end of the form and then start cycling through to the top of the browser (toolbars, address bar, search bar, etc) before finally returning to the pdf document's fields.  Is there either a setting in the reader or maybe even IE which controls this functionality and will limit the tabbing to only the pdf form?  Or does anyone know of a method of limiting the tabbing functionality to only work within the pdf document itself when opened within a browser?
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.  I have looked through all the reader preferences and do not see anything directly related to this.  Thank you very much in advance.

I guess by QTP you mean HP Functional Testing 11. This is really something to take up with HP, it's the job of monitor software not to crash.
