System Management container in Multidomain environment (same forest)
Greetings,
The scenario is the following:
1 root domain. 5 child domains. The schema was extended for Win2008 R2.
1 primary parent SCCM site (implemented in a child domain. 1 sccm server). 4 primary child SCCM sites (implemented in the 4 remaining child domains. 1 sccm server per child domain).
All of the SCCM servers are SP2 R3.
The System Management container was created in all of the child domains and the permissions was applied according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633121.aspx
In every AD site, in System Management container appears the information pertaining to its sccm server.
The questions are:
At the AD domain where is the parent sccm site, in its System Management container, all of the sccm servers must be granted permissions?
The System Management container must be created at the root domain? (and what would be the permissions?)
Thanks in advance!
Site servers write their information to the System Management container in their own domain (and only their own domain) thus you need to create the System Management container in each and every domain where there is a site server but only the site server
in that domain needs to be granted permissions in that domain.
Clients use the global catalog to query for info so the actual domain where the System Management container or objects contained therein doesn't really matter.

SCCM System Management container is empty
Installed and configured SCCM 2012 R2 and was able to discover AD forest, groups, etc. no problem there.
However, the System Management container is empty. Using delegation, I have given the SCCM server full access to the container and to all subfolders.
Schema was extended successfully prior to SCCM installation.
Not sure why the System Management container isn't being populated by objects as it should be.
Please help...Well, I now see the site, and sccm shows all publishing status as being successful.
Here is what I did. I had to remove the sccm server from the domain and deleted its AD account.
Then joined it to the domain and re-configured all SQL permissions etc.
Deleted the system management container and re-created it.
gave the SCCM server full permission to the container and rebooted, all DCs and the SCCM Server.
Now, It is no longer empty. I can see the site.
I spent days on this it is finally working.....wheeeeew....
Thank you all for all your efforts. -
System Management container already existing from SMS 2003
I am going to be introducing a new SCCM 2012 R2 server in our domain which has an existing SMS 2003 server. The first part of the SCCM 2012 R2 preparation is (from my understanding) is to create the "System Management" container using ADSIEdit
and give permission to the service account you create for SCCM.
As we already have SMS 2003 this container exists in our Active Director. Given this what is the proper procedure? Do I simply give permission for this container to the SCCM service account and that is it? What about the already existing items in this container
for our existing SMS server, will they be adversely affected or conflict with the newly created items?Yes, simply assign permissions for your ConfigMgr 2012 site system(s) to that container. It won't touch the existing objects.
Do pay attention to overlap in boundaries, inc ase you use the boundaries for auto site assignment. See also:

Hi
I have 3 forest. (A, B,C)
- Forest A (1 Root domain)
- Forest B (1 root domain and 1 child)
- Forest C (1 Root domain)
I install a new SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 i root domain (Forest B).
- Forest A trust Forest B
- Forest C no trust with forest B or C
I install MP and DP in forest A and C.
My question: it's necessary to delegate MP on "System Management" in Active Directory in:
- Root Domain forest A?
- Root Domain forest C?
- In child domain forest B?
ThanksNot sure what you mean by delegate here? There is no such concept. Are you talking about setting permissions on the System Management container?
If so, then is it necessary? No.
Will it enable ConfigMgr to publish site location information used by clients in those forests to more easily locate the MP? Yes.
However, it's not the MP that is publishing data, it's the site itself and so the site server must have permissions on the container. Actual publishing is done by Forest Discovery and thus you must configure Forest Discovery with proper credentials also
in addition to extending the schema in the forests and manually creating the container.

Open module for managing property file and environment variables
Looking for an open module for managing property files and environment variables (like CLASSPATH) set in a shell script. For handeling properties (preserving comments, supporting includes, appending new entries, and more) I have looked at SuperProperties from openadaptor but find certain functionality lacking. As for interfacing with common shell scripts/files containing setting for CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME, other system/application variables another type of object editor is needed. Maybe JFIG?
Any ideas are greatly welcomed. You seem wright, you hit a brick wall here with Air to find the location
of the command console on windows...
So in fact I never build an exe tool, but this little problem was a nice
case to test it and I tried it.:
I downloaded monodevelop
-GTK# for .NET 2.12.10*
-MonoDevelop 2.4.2*
from http://monodevelop.com/Download
created a console project and had an exe in 5 minutes !
You can download the findconsole tool and the projectfiles here:
http://greencollective.nl/temp/dump/findconsole_monoproject.zip
findconsole.exe will reveal the path/location of cmd.exe on a windows system.

No system manager locations set, search application might not be ready yet
Hi,
I am just setting up a new SharePoint 2013 environment (Windows server 2008 R2 + SQL Server 2008 R2) and I am getting this error message in powershell when I try to save my new search topology: No system manager locations set, search application might
not be ready yet. The installation script used to install and create the search service originates from this link: http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=378 and I receive the error message after running $clone.Activate().
ULS is writing this:

So basically all else is going fine before saving the clone. Application pool is created, search service and it´s proxy is created (the databases are also created in SQL). The clone is after this created and then the components are added.
I have tested with both March and April CU. I use separate accouns for search service, installation and so on. I have tested giving the search application pool account local admin right but didnt make any difference.
Some posts in Internet around this matter is pointing towards there might be 4 missing patches like here: http://blog.steigis.ch/sharepoint/sps2013/search-in-starting-state/ They are all installed on my server.
Search host controller service and SharePoint Server Search are started.
Before creating the service I ran this. I have done this on all my other installations of search to solve the problem with the host service is in "starting" state. Info taken from here: http://mmman.itgroove.net/2012/12/search-host-controller-service-in-starting-state-sharepoint-2013-8/
$acl = Get-Acl HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName
$person = [System.Security.Principal.NTAccount] "Users"
$access = [System.Security.AccessControl.RegistryRights]::FullControl
$inheritance = [System.Security.AccessControl.InheritanceFlags] "ContainerInherit, ObjectInherit"
$propagation = [System.Security.AccessControl.PropagationFlags]::None
$type = [System.Security.AccessControl.AccessControlType]::Allow
$rule = New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.RegistryAccessRule($person, $access, $inheritance, $propagation, $type)
$acl.AddAccessRule($rule)
Set-Acl HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName $acl
$sh = Get-SPServiceInstance | ? {$_.TypeName -eq "Search Host Controller Service"}
After this I do a server restart and continue with creating the search service and its components.
Any ideas?I had exactly the same issue when setting up a new SharePoint 2013 environment (Windows Server 2012, SP2013 with PU March 2013 and CU April 2013, .NET 4.5). I have tried almost everything during the last weeks to configure the Search Service Applicatione,
e.g. create the service from GUI, create it from PowerShell, verify my search account had enough permissions, check for missing updates etc. etc. Same error no matter what I tried.
Using another SharePoint farm I went through a similar configuration of the Search Service Application. I used exactly the same script as I did on the first server and the setup completed without any issues. So why did the same features fail during the setup?
To find an answer I compared the two farms and the only thing I noticed that were different was the lack of .NET 3.5 on the application and WFE server in the first farm. I then enabled .NET 3.5 features and now the Search Service Application works as expected
I had no idea enabling .NET 3.5 features would solve the issue - I thought .NET 4.5 was backward compatible and SharePoint only requires .NET 4.5 according the
requirements? -
Hi, I'm writing this note under a colleague's e-mail address.
Do you have to build a forte application with system management in mind
from the start, if so what features.
Failure to do so appears to leave Forte as a 'black box'.
Also what are the potential risks of using/not using system management
features.

Searchable thread archive <URL:http://pinehurst.sageit.com/listarchive/>We have connected two environments. Environment A has
an application with an Environment Visible SO. This SO
gets triggered at a certain moment to create a certain
anchored object and publish this object with the Name-
Service. Applications in environment A and B can then
access the anchored object. We have a number of connected environments each of which publishes several
anchored objects in the forte name service.
When environment B is offline and the partition containing
the EVSO in environment A has just been started, the
first attempt to register the anchored object with the Name-
Service fails. The error says:
USER ERROR: Failed to create object (/sub/tst) in a remote
environment AF5C47B0-61F5-11D2-B9FC-627494AEAA77.
Class: qqsp_SystemResourceException
The UUID in this error belongs to environment B.This reads to me as if Env A is trying to create the object in environment B
which doesn't sound like a good idea.
The second attempt succeeds, even though environment B
is still offline.
Can anyone explain what the cause of this error is? Is
this normal behaviour?Hmm, we don't see this behaviour because we make sure that the creation of
the anchored object is done in the environment that it lives in. Is there a
reason environment A is trying to create environment's B anchored object?

SLD - Logical System Management
Hi,
We are implementing XI and we have the problem with SLD logical system management. The problem is that we use the same Logical system name (Ex. PRDclnt350) for all the systems to avoid running lengthy BDLS process when we hook our R3 systems to their respective BW systems.
Can you please suggest how we take care of this in XI -SLD landscape as it requires unique logical system names for each Business System when maintaining in SLD.
Can we have multiple SLDs and will it take care of the issue. If so can we take one of them as the master SLD and the rest as slave SLDs. What would be the best practices for synchronizing them. Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards..
HarithaHi All,
We opened an OSS note with SAP regarding this. Please see the question we asked and the response we got from them regarding the SLD maintenance:
Hi,
We are on BW 3.5 and SAP ERP 5.0. We are implementing XI now. So we
need to configure SLD and register our Business systems. The problem is
we have the concept of using the same logical system for all our SAP
systems, say WRPCLNT750, when we are hooking our systems to their
respective BW systems. And in SLD, we have problem becuase of this, as
it recommends to have unique logical system name for each Business
System being registered.
We want to mention some points in here about our landscape and some of
the recommendations we got from SAP regarding this. Ours is a very big
warehouse system and in order to avoid the lengthy "BDLS" runs, SAP
recommended using the same Logical System name for all the SAP systems.
Hence we are using the same logical system name for our systems.
So now coming to our problem, can you please tell us what would be the
best practice that needs to be followed now for SLD Business System
registration. How can we overcome the hurdle of NOT having a unique
logical system name for our systems in central System Landscape
Directory.
Please let us know the solution as early as possible.
Thanks and regards..
Haritha.
The Response:
Hello Haritha
I have found some pass cases with the same question that you have,
however, the replies from developer are as below.
Logical systems cannot be duplicated within the SLD, that means one
Business System per Logical System name, both need to be unique, the SLDis working a designed here.
I would suggest you rename one of the copies of the productive system
to solve this.
My apology that I couldn't provide you a better answer for this.
Thanks & Best Regards

Where I can find and use "Java Desktop System Management Tools "
With Solaris 10, you not only get the Java Desktop System desktop environment, but also the Java Desktop System Management Tools and a selection of free and trial Development Tools, which are available for download only.
I found only an information about JDS release 2
but today it's release 3 already and it's said it already integrated in JDS
and above sentence it state that it already come with solaris 10?
where i can find that , where i can use it
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-7575/6mmsrpduj?a=view
this page said how to install but ...where I can find CD/
regards please helpGood question. It appears to have been installed with Solaris 11/06, as I have all of the packages listed here:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-7575/6mmsrpdus?a=view
However, it does not appear in the Java Web Console. I tried adding it using the wcadmin command, but haven't managed to get it to run as per the docs. The documentation assumes that it is already installed and visible in the Java Web Console...
According to this documentation:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-1985/6mhm8o5l6?a=view#gdjpi
An application for the Java Web Console should have a WEB-INF directory and an app.xml file. The apoc packages come with neither, so something is missing. -
How to install forms 6i runtime using windows Systems Management Server?
Hi,
Our clinents are using oracle forms 5 application and we want to upgrade to forms 6i ( client /server ).
How to install oracle forms 6i and reports 6i runtime in multiple client machines
using windows systems management server instead of installing one by one manually.
RegardsHere is a quick summary on why this works...
The Problem:
The issue relies with the method and logic that MDT’s scripts use to query and validate that the proper disks, partitions and storage space reside before starting the installation of Windows.
Essentially what you have configured in the Task Sequence and the UNATTEND.xml is analyzed by the MDT scripts then a validation is completed against the hardware in which you wish to install Windows
on and if there are any errors you will be prompted with MDT Error or Warning dialogs.
The problem is that the MDT scripts use WMI to query the hard disk, partition and free space requirements for Windows, but in the case of using GPT disk, the 2nd partition (MSR) that you have to create
is hidden. The class that WMI uses for its query can’t see the MSR partition so instead of 3 partitions, it returns 2 in the query results; hence why DISK 0 PARTITION 3 doesn’t work as mentioned earlier when configured in the MDT Task Sequence.
Although the above still confuses me as to why it works with DISK 0 PARTITION 2 since the WMI query results return PARTITION IDs 0 and 1 when it should return 1 and 2…
The Windows Pre-Installation Environment however does see all 3 partitions correctly and we tried configuring in our Task Sequence to install Windows to DISK 0 and PARTITION 2 and in the UNATTEND.xml
file to install Windows to DISK 0 and PARTITION 3 but due to timing issues of the way Windows installs with MDT, did this not work for us. -

Some folders on System Manager are not displayed correctly
Hi,
I'm using a Rockwell CLP of family ControlLogix, this CLP communicates with NI OPC Servers. I have created a Process and an IO Server on System Manager
My problem is: when I browse for TAGs on System manager, some items, who must be folders, are displayed as integers.
Same problem occurs when I use PSP Network browser, example tool.
