My two cents: We have the same SecurityExceptions when JAXP is doing a System.getProperty on java.home property, which applet specification forbids. So we think JAXP is meant to be run in a servlet, rather an in an applet (unless Sun could correct us on that). Those property reads would need to be removed if they were to run in an applet.

Can System property set in Java Plug-in?
Hello gurus,
In desktop app, we could set certain system properties for example
System.setProperty( "sun.java2d.translaccel", "true" );
I am trying to develop simple game in applet.
But calling this method requires the applet to signed, which is not my option.
Is there a way i can set this property in the Java Plug-in Run-Time-Parameter field?
Thanks in advance.nope, not to my knowledge.
Until recently, you couldn't even do it at the commandline with webstart apps!
(though you could ofcourse still use System.setProperty()) -
Hi!
I got this error message at runtime.
After adding value to the Intialcontext by adding the following code snippet:
Properties p = new Properties();
p.put("java.naming.factory.initial",
"com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory");
p.put("java.naming.provider.url",
"iiop://127.0.0.1:9010");
initContext = new javax.naming.InitialContext(p);
After this i am getting different error message:
org.omg.CORBA.COMM_FAILURE:
minor code: 1 completed: Maybe at om.sun.corba.se.internal.iiop.IIOPConnection.purge_calls(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.corba.se.internal.iiop.ReaderThread.run(Unknown Source)
Looking forward a proper solution
for this problem.
Thanks in advance.

note: iam using eclipse ganymede and jboss app server
Edited by: Arun_ece on Mar 10, 2009 1:13 AMHi,
You need to create a ejb-jar.xml and jboss.xml files to deploy the application on the servers.
Also, put these lines of codes after getting System Properties.
prop.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "iiop://localhost:[port_no]");Thanks,

Hi,
We are developing a system that extensively uses Java Applets. But it's taking a lot of time to load up the applets.
Is there any way of speeding up the execution of Java Applets? Is Sun working on improvements to JRE that will result in better speed performance?
Thanks.Hi mins0306!
Look to this guys: http://www.creamtec.com/
Could be a valuable solution!

How can I enable java applet plug-in and Web Start applications via terminal?
Since the last Java update to Snow Leopard, I have found that the system periodically disables the Java applet plug-in after a period of disuse. I know I can go to /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and just click to re-enable Java. But I want to write a script which will do this periodically for a couple hundred Mac users where I work.
My question is - how can I reenable the Java applet plug-in and web start applications via Terminal command? Is this possible? Is there a plist file that can be modified, etc.?
Bob ReedIt is my understanding that Apple's most recent Java update automatically disables Java after a certain period of time that it hasn't been used. We don't want users to have to keep re-enabling it. So we wanted to find a way to do this via script either run by a Casper JSS server or stored locally on each workstation. With the guidance provided by Mark Jalbert above and some text from a script written by Rich Trouton, I was able to make a script (with some minor changes) and a launch agent to re-run the script upon login. So the preference is always enabled.
For your reference, the script content is:
#!/bin/sh
# DYNAMICALLY SET THE UUID FOR THE BYHOST FILE NAMING
if [[ `ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-50` == "00000000-0000-1000-8000-" ]]; then
MAC_UUID=`ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c51-62 | awk {'print tolower()'}`
elif [[ `ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-50` != "00000000-0000-1000-8000-" ]]; then
MAC_UUID=`ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-62`

The launch agent plist content is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

</array>
<key>RunAtLoad</key>

</plist>
I hope this is helpful to anyone wishing to keep the Java web plugin enabled.

Hi,
I am trying to set a system property in a java program like below:
Properties systemProperties = System.getProperties();
systemProperties.put ("man.cacheconfig", "cacheserver-config.xml");
System.setProperties (systemProperties);
When I execute this program ,the WSAD console throws me error like the below:
Caused by: (Wrapped: Failed to load configuration resource: cacheserver-config.xml) java.io.IOException: Configuration is missing: "cacheserver-config.xml", loader=sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader@3cd3cce4
Is there anyway to set the system property in WSAD ???
Any help in this regard is appreciated
Thanks
ChatHi Jaheer,
I would encourage you to first look at Section 6, Software Change Management on the Solution Operations Guide available on SMP under SAP Sourcing On-Premise --> SAP Sourcing 7.0. It contains lot of very useful information.
Basically, there are two options to transport your configurations. 1) Use Export Data functionality (aka Object Migration), 2) Import CSV or Workbook.
The first option involves exporting configuration data from the source system as oma file and importing it into the destination system. For transporting system properties, you could either export all the system properties to a oma file by selecting the Dataset option. Or you could use the Object List option, which involves oml query. You could create a custom version of the system properties oml query and add your filter conditions in the WHERE clause. You can find more info on this in the Solution Operations Guide.
Hope this helps.

Read, Write and create files from java applet.
Dear All,
I have created a two files. One is applet and one application file. I am creating a instance of application file in applet. Application file is used for reading, writing and creating files. When I invoke applet from broser it dipslays error wrt file access permission. From the forum search I know that we need to sign the applet / edit the java policy to run the code locally. Final delivery of my code should execute on different system. Its not web. I have created a html page on submitting the form it invokes applet to read the form values from param and needs to update the values in xml file located locally. Please help me on how I can proceed with this fix.
Thanks in advance.Sorry if I have not stated the problem clearly. I need to update content to files hosted in local system using java applets.
I belive there are two ways to achive that.One with jar signer and one with modifying the java policy file. But this application needs to be installed in different system locally as I have created a application with webpage as useinterface and need to update the content in local files on submission. Not sure on how to modify the java.policy files in each end user system and whats the value we need to update in java policy file. Please help me on the steps to be followed -

Passing Java system property at runtime
How to set system property at runtime?
Imaging the situation - application is already run. One of the threads polls system properties periodically. In debug purposes I need to set system during program is working. How can I do that?Not possible.
Far as I know not possible for any app (not just java) and true for most popular desktop OSes as well.
The environment is copied into the application (all applications) when it starts. So external changes will not impact it. -
Add a system property when the deployment java command is build by jdevelop
Hello everybody,
I have fedora core 4 installed using jdk 1.4.2_06 and JDeveloper 9.0.5.2.
I have cofigured a connection to a external OC4J standalone where I want to deploy my applications.
There are a problem between fedora core 4 anda jdk 1.4.2 that it's solved adding the argument "-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" to the java command when it's run.
The problem is that I don't know where I must put this parameter so that when I do a deployment to the OC4J Standalone, the command that jdeveloper build include this system property. Now the command that it builds is
java -jar admin.jar ...
I need that the command was:
java -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack -jar admin.jar ...
Thank you very much in advance.I'll see this menu, but it allow to configure the internal OC4J standalone of the JDeveloper.
I want to deploy to an OC4J standalone that is external to JDeveloper, and that is running in another machine. -
Why is it unable to read URL through Java Applet ?
I have tried to read an image with ImageIO.read(URL) in JApplet. But it failed to be initialized. Please refer to TEST.java. But if I read the image in MSDOS mode, it works. Please refer to DisplayImage.java. The only difference is Applet and MSDOS mode.
I am using WindowsXP with j2sdk1.4.1_01 installed.
//File one: TEST.java
//Please run in Applet mode

import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.awt.geom.*;

catch(MalformedURLException murle){}
catch(IOException ioe){}
JFrame f = new JFrame("ImageDisplayer");
f.setSize(new Dimension(550,350));
f.setVisible(true);
//End of TEST.java
//File two: DisplayImage.java
//Please run in MSDOS mode

public ImagePanel(Image image) {
this.image = image;
public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
super.paintComponent(g); //paint background
//Draw image at its natural size first.
g.drawImage(image, 0, 0, this); //85x62 image
//End of DisplayImage.javaThe security model for applets does not allow them to read from a URL unless it is on the same host the applet was loaded from. If you must do this then you must sign your applet for it to work.

Java applet detecting system states
I am currently working on a chat room applet to keep all of our emplyees connected during the day for user support and general communication; however, we have been having an issue with people not going idle lately. The solution we have settled on is trying to detect if the user's computer has been locked (a much more habitual thing to do) from the java applet that they access the system from (all of our users are accessing the applet from a windows machine). I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this. Is this even possible in an applet or would it have to be an actual application?
thanks in advance for the help!It's probably possible if you sign the applet code, but it's messy. You need to use JNI to access the system status which requires that an appropriate DLL is in place on the client machine. A signed applet can install one.
But you quickly get to the point where it might make more sense to use a stand-alone program, which you could place on a shared directory. -
Why can't change default cipersuits of JSSE by java system property?
I am using jdk1.5.0_17,Now I am trying to change default ciphersuits of JSSE by java system property,so all code can be kept unchanged.In JSSE Reference Guide I know default ciphersuits can be customized by https.cipherSuites system property.I run my program by java -Dhttps.cipherSuites=SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5 myProgram
but it doesn't work.the default ciphersuits of jre are always used.I am not able to change it.
any comments? your help will be appreciated.Well that only works with HTTPS, i.e. with URLs and HttpsURLConnections. If you're using Sockets directly you have to use the API.
