Tab groups

I'm working on a complex application that dynamically creates large Flex forms based on XML values from a server. There is a bug, where under certain conditions, tab groups are formed within a form -- tabbing loops through fields 4 to 8, when a radiobutton is set. I have tested our code -- based on the Adobe example found in their docs for tabbing with a scrolled window -- on my own hand-written test cases, and haven't encountered any tabbing group problems. So the problem appears to be related to how we're dynamically creating these large Flex forms -- the problem is in the form itself. These forms consist of all the form elements (input fields, checkboxes, ...)
So my question is what error would lead to tab groups.  I have been playing around with the groupName settings of the RadioButtonGroup (omitting it or making it mismatch) within my testcase, but haven't been able to find a programming error that results in the creation of a tab group. Also none of the elements within either the form or my testcases contains an explicit tabIndex, instead we just default to the natural progression of form elements. So there isn't a problem with duplicate tabIndexes.
Thanks, Norman

Unfortunately, this application is trapped in Flex 3.2. The amount of QA required after porting it to another version is large enough to ensure that it will never happen.

  • How do I use Panorama / Tab Groups with the keyboard?

Yes I know that CTRL-SHIFT-E opens the panorama window, and then I can use the mouse to organize my tabs into groups.
But how do I do this with the keyboard?
I've [http://lifehacker.com/#!5719596/switch-between-tab-groups-in-firefox-with-a-keyboard-shortcut read] [http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1705714 that] Ctrl-`should move me through tab groups. That doesn't work for me on my Danish keyboard. (Where the ' and ` chars are weird. But is how they are on a valid standard Danish keyboard) I've tried changing the keyboard to USA and then moving through tab groups works fine.

  • How do I move multiple tabs into a tab group in one go?

It would be nice if the Tab Group feature would support standard Windows conventions for multi-selection, so I wouldn't have to move tabs between groups only one at a time. If I want to move 20, say, it quickly becomes tedious. Shift-select and CTRL-select should be made available if this feature is to be truly useful.
Please feel free to enlighten me if I've missed some method by which this is currently doable. However, I would still suggest to add the above feature, so it conforms to Windows standards. :-)

As far as I can tell, it doesn't look like this is part of Tab Groups yet. It would definitely make a great feature though! :)

  • Using tab groups but Firefox 28.0 crashes and even can not save all tabs in archive recently

Hi. I installed tab groups addon on my firefox 28.0 (firefox portable version) and each group has its tabs. of course. Problem is that Firefox crashes when i work on a group with the tabs and even can not save all tabs in archive as MAFF recently too. When i try to save all tabs in archive as... i choose the name and hit save and wait but after some time this crashes too. Last time i saved all my tabs and groups as MAFF or other file was end of april and since then i can not save them anymore because of the crashing.
I read on the help site to delete Firefox then reinstall ect. to fix problems but I DO NOT want to erase my groups with their tabs as i chose this solution working with group tabs as it would be to hard on my cpu when i use for each group a different browser for example.
Please help me fix this problem with the crashes but without loosing my groups and its tabs as they are all important and do not wish to erase them as i use them all.
Thanks and hope for a soon reply :)

Can you give me your crash reports?
#Enter ''about:crashes'' in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.

  • How can I update an already saved "bookmark all tabs" group with a current group of tabs? Or add only the changes??

    Example of problem:
I have already saved a group of tabs using the "bookmark all tabs" feature.
I open that group of tabs in a new browser window.
Then I modify that group of tabs that I have open, adding new ones, removing old ones.
How can I replace the existing tab group with the new tabs?
Is there an option to just add the new ones that I have opened and keep all the others even if I have removed some of the old ones from the currently opened group?
...another issue: can I share bookmarks online? What are the options for this?

    You can't do that.<br />
Each time you use "Bookmark All Tabs" a new folder is created, even if you give the folder the same name, so you will have to do any merging yourself in the Bookmarks Manager or just create a new group and discard (delete) the previous group.
If you want to share bookmarks online then you need to use a web based service that offers such a feature like Delicious.

  • How can I move folders full of favorites to tab groups w/o reopening all those sites?

I have many folders full of website pages in my IE favorites. Some more used folders are on my favorites bar--I click and it drops down a menu of all sites saved. I click one to go to that favorite.
It would be difficult to use the bookmarks menu to go through cascading menus to get to my folders. I want to put them on tabs.
However I don't want to have to reopen each folder's 30 or more web pages to get them on the tab group. It would take many hours. Is there a way to create a tab group from a list of bookmarks?

    Hi Nemonic,
To avoid typing the long full path every time, you can try to run the cmdlet set-location to set the current location as powershell working location, then you can use ".\" to represent the default root folder path.
To set folder permission in powershell, please refer to the cmdlet "Set-Acl":

  • How do I turn off tab groups. See details below.

Ok, I don't like the bloody Tab Group feature. I have tabs across the top and now I can't click on a tab to go to that Web Page. I have to go to the right on the down arrow. I need to turn off this bloddy Tab grouping. I am about ready to delete FireFox for this reason and go to Chrome or Opera or stay with Safari for this reason. Any help appreciated. Seems like Mozilla took 1 step forward and 2 steps back with this feature. Good idea in principle but created other problems.See in question above. Running an iMac dual core.

I like them. I want them to stay attached and open all of them when I open FF.
I just wish there was a way to lock them at a particular point.
Occasionally, I mistakenly close a batch of tabs from my second screen... when I close my primary screen, it forgets the second screen tabs, and I have to reopen and regroup the tabs I closed by mistake when I re-open FF...
I love tabs and wish there was a way to keep them in spite of the fact that I might occasionally close them in the wrong sequence by mistake from time to time ...

  • How do I sync my tab groups onto another computer?

I have many tab groups and many tabs within each one. I want to copy or sync the tab groups onto a second computer.
Can this be done on a Mac? If so, how?

Ok, I finally figured it out.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    Mac
Profile folders are in one of these locations:
    ~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
    ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
The tilde character (~) refers to the current user's Home folder, so ~/Library is the /Macintosh HD/Users/<username>/Library folder.
    [edit]
I copied the Profile folder and pasted it in the same location on my second computer. The reason why I couldn't find it before was because the Library folder was hidden. Once I figured out how to reveal it, I was able to copy and paste it.
I hope Tab Groups will be able to sync in FF in the future. Tab groups is a great way to organize all the tabs.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • How do I turn off tab groups? It forces the same tabs to reopen in next session

I upgraded to 6.0.1 and experimented with the tab groups. Now I cannot turn it off. It seems to force the same tabs to be opened with the next session. I had (and still have) the warn me when I close multiple tabs. It overrides that option if I click the close the window. It just closes the firefox window and reopens all the tabs with the next session. This nullifies the best feature that firefox had over chrome.
Please help me to get my old Firefox back...

  • Tab Groups has ruined my browser and I can't get it off. I wat to completely lose it.

Ever since I put Firefox 4 on it opens up to the last window I ws at - not my home page - not any reason except the obnoxious Tab Group you added. I drag it to the customize box off the tool bar - no good. Whatever page I was last in it comes up next time I open Firefox as New Tab. I JUST WAT TAB GROUPS UN INSTALLED FROM MY COMPUTER !!! I don't want to customize it , or learn how neat it is, I WANT IT GONE. It does nothing but creat new problems. If need be I'll go back to the Firefox 3.6. Tab Groups should be a option - not something you have to live with. GET ME OUT - PLEASE

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder to get rid of the Tab Groups.

  • How do I restore my tabs and tab groups after an update to version 36.0?

I work with many tabs when I use Firefox. I keep them ordered in Tab Groups, which helps separate the different kids of work I do and interests I have. I have been using this environment for years. When I started my work today, Firefox updated to v36.0, and the following behaviour was noticed:
    1. There is only one tab group when attempting to show Tab Groups in Panorama, as opposed to around a dozen;
    2. Normally though the hidden tabs (the tabs in the same group as the startup group and not the default page) don't download content until clicked, the name of the page and icon, if available, will show on the tab. Presently, the tabs show "New Tab" and no icon. There appears, however, to be the number of tabs that exist across all Tab Groups but now are ghosts this one, default Tab Group. I'd have to add, though, I don't count the number of tabs, so I can't be exactly sure. When clicked, there is just a blank page. So it is odd that Firefox knows they are there but cannot simply attach the address to it.
I have tried to restore the following files from my Windows Home Server backup to the AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<gobbletygook>.default folder:
    1. In the sessionstore-backups folder, I replaced the previous.js, recovery.bak and recovery.js files (not any of the upgrade~) with files from yesterday and from two days before.
When that didn't do anything, I replaced
    2. sessionCheckpoints.json
I didn't see any file with a recent date that appeared to be one that I should restore. I should add that I do see hidden files. I thought about restoring the whole lot, but wasn't sure how this would affect the program on v36.0 and the profile files on 35.0.1.
I have deadlines this week and need to immediately restore my environment in order to make those deadlines. I have no list of addresses to my Web pages to work in IE or other. Any help would be very much appreciated.
On a second note, I had been wondering recently whether this tab group environment is a suitable way to maintain my work environment. Occasionally, when opening Panorama, I would get an error saying a script is taking too long, but if I clicked Continue, it would display the groups in a few seconds. I had considered putting all of it in Bookmarks though it would be tedious and more difficult to access and open multiple tabs. In the beginning, I tried Tab Groups thinking it was a simple matter of maintaining a table of addresses (in tabs) with a tab group ID or name. How could that go wrong? Well, it has, so it is obviously more complicated than that, and I didn't realise that upgrades would affect personal data. Should I abondon using tab groups?

With the help of information from user, ptressel, in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1032154#answer-673322 a post here about the existence of sessionstore.js when version 33 was released], I was able to easily recover my tabs and tab groups as follows:
    # close Firefox and, perhaps, allow a few seconds (30s?) for any final closing of files;
    # check to see if you have a sessionstore.js file in your profile folder, named like the one I documented in my original post above;
    # if it is not timestamped prior to the discovery of your problem, open the sessionstore-backups folder;
    # check if the recovery.js file is suitably timestamped and, if not, the recovery.bak.
    # At this point, you are likely to find that none of them are prior to your problem occuring. If so, open your backups of this folder and go through steps 2-4 to find a file prior to your problem occuring.
    # When you find a file, copy it to the root of your current profile folder and name it, "sessionstore.js"
    # Open Firefox. Mine opened up as desired.
This is a Windows solution. Sorry I can't comment on other platforms, but I'd bet that as this is just a file copy and renaming, it is likely the same.
For Windows users, you may find you need to sign out and login as an administrator in order to access the backups. You need not logoff your standard account, but do have Firefox closed as described above.
    Hope that helps.

  • Firefox 4 RC - 2nd Tab Group is deleted when closing and restarting

This seemed to work at first when I first upgraded to Firefox 4 RC. Then later in the day when working with Panorama Groups, I found that the 2nd tab groups disappeared that I created once I quit my browser and reloaded it. This happen each time I do this again.

Thanks, cor-el for replying, I am afraid it did not help, you see my problem doesn't lay in the closing part. I can make a more detailed explanation on my "problem". You see when I have many tabs open under a period of using Firefox 4 RC, while using some I close normally the ones I don't use just pressing the x button on the tab, it closes but here comes the spooky thing. When going to tab groups, it says the tab is still alive and I can't close it there... So restarting firefox will by instant get me all of those tabs I don't want to have opened and those that I want opened. Now the problem doesn't appear, if I do like this...
Open tabs I want, open tabs I will only look for a sec, go into tab groups "close" them there. Restart Firefox, they will not come. SO I am wondering is there any bug with closing normally the tabs I could send pictures of what happens....

  • [DATA LOSS] I closed the Tab Groups and all my tabs dissapeared. How can I recover the tabs in Firefox 26? Would you please just delete this feature?

Thank-you in advance for reading all of this.
A slip of the mouse in trying to return to the left-most tab caused the tab groups feature to take over the window. I completely failed to comprehend what I was looking at and closed the thing by clicking the x because I damn sure didn't want what I was looking at. Undo close group? Of course not, I didn't want a group in the first place. Hey! My tabs are completely gone now! So in just a few steps all of which seemed innocent, I have lost all but ten of the tabs that were open, and those were only the most recent ten (and actually older tabs would have been more valueable than newer so insult on top of injury).
I don't think increasing the number of undoable tab closures is the answer. I think getting rid of the tab groups feature all together is the best way to go. I seem to have lost all the tabs I had open, irretrievably, and some of them had been open for WEEKS so they can't be reopened from history.
The tab groups feature is a data loss bug. Please remove it from the UX completely. If you have to figure out a way to grandfather people who actually have a tab group, fine but don't further vex me with it, please.
The reason this catastrophe has occurred is that your feature, was so discoverable that I activated it by mistake, and the UI after that had to be learned on the spot, yet was too complicated to learn. You really should withdraw it until you can figure out how to keep the UI for it from causing data loss such as I have experienced this morning.
Also, there may be other questions on this feature which are from a certain point of view the same as this one. It's hard for me to tell for sure. None of them had a true resolution so that's why I posted this one, also I'm seeking a specific fix, removal of the offending feature.
Why remove the feature? Because if I allow in my discussion the possibility of retaining it, it will stick around in its present and dangerous form until your team is done bikeshedding the new form it should take. Instead I want you to delete the feature and then require its champion to convince you that a new incarnation won't cause data loss before you allow it back in.
Fellow users, if you know of a way to recover all 50 lost tabs from an "undo close tab group incident", I would be grateful for that advice, but I would still believe the feature should be deleted. Some of the tabs have been retained for months so digging them out of the history is not practical.

I am not 100% certain but I am fairly sure development of this tab feature has ceased and it is likely to be deprecated. I am even less sure what the replacement will be.

I have not tried this and am not even using Windows at present but the tabs groups are stored as entries in the sessionstore.js files. Firefox has such a file plus sometimes numbered copies and a backup copy. Firefox will have re-writen these files but I suppose there is a posibility the Windows OS may have kept copies.

Find and backup any current sessionstore.js file. Consider also bookmark or otherwise recording anything you have open. Now find any previous versions and try putting them in Firefox's profile before restarting it.

  • Close tab groups actually closes tabs rather than just the grouping. How do I recover all tabs, not just the last 10? Pages and tabs are not in recent history.

I had a problem with tab groups - if I mistakenly close tab groups, I can only recover the last 10 tabs.
I had a window with many more than 10 tabs which I reopened each session by going to History > Recently Closed Windows. I knew this was risky - I could lose this if I did not keep it in an open window or recently closed window. So I was looking for a way to save this window with all the tabs. I looked into tab groups and, not knowing what I was doing, I closed the groups of tabs. There seems to be no recovery for other than the last 10 tabs. And open tabs are not necessarily in recent history if I have not accessed the tab and refreshed.

I don't use tab groups myself, but I know of a way to increase the number of closed tabs that Firefox remembers. Unfortunately, it's not retroactive...
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the following preferences and enter the preferred new value:
    (A) '''browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo''' (default: 10)
    (B) '''browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo''' (default: 3)
Regarding what is in history, by default, Firefox will load tabs on demand when you restore a session, rather than loading every single tab immediately. If you turned off that setting, or if you visited all the tabs, then those pages should be in history, but finding them amidst all the others would be quite a challenge...

  • Is there a way to use Sync to restore the windows and tab groups I had on my previous computer?

I recently set up a new computer. Signing into Sync restored my bookmarks but not my Firefox windows and tab groups. I can get a LIST of "Tabs From Other Devices" to show up, but what I want to do is to restore the session from my previous computer. Is it possible to do this with Sync?
