#TAB_LINK#

Hi,
is it possible do not use javascript-based navigation in standart tabs? When I use #TAB_LINK# substitution string, it is substituted with javascript code. I would like to have direct links in tabs.
TIA

i'm pretty sure there's currently no way to implement your standard tabs as non-javascript links. i'm also pretty sure that decent thought was put into that decision, but i'll make a note of the request for flexibility. in the meantime you might consider the work-around of using an HTMLDB List and a template that makes them appear like tabs.
hope this helps,
raj
ps-pretty sure, too, that TAB_LINK substitution string you're seeing as available is currently meant to apply only to parent tabs. sorry for the confusion. i've noted that as well.

• #TAB_LINK# value not set for tabbed navigation list

I'm a big supporter of searching the threads for an answer before posting. My apologies if I've overlooked this in the threads.
Like many others, I'm leveraging lists to mimic third level tab functionality. I'm trying to use the tabbed navigation list template. My targets for the list entries are pages within the application. When clicking the links however, #TAB_LINK# is not being interpreted within the link URL. #TAB_LINK# is simply appended to the end of the URL instead of being replaced with the actual link value, for example I would expect to see a typical htmldb page link with the target page value.
As a result, no navigation occurs to the target page. If I change the list template to horitzontal link list, the links function as expected, however I prefer the look of the tabbed navigation template.
Any suggestions?
David

I took a hint from my own post and checked the template that was working for me and noticed that the horizontal list template uses #LINK# instead of #TAB_LINK#.
I altered the tabbed navigation list template, replacing #TAB_LINK# with #LINK#, and now the tab links function as expected. I'm not sure if this fix will bite me later, or if this is a known issue. If there is a "proper" solution out there, I would still like to hear it. For now I'll assume my fix is a hack.
Thanks,
David

• Jquery menu plugin integrated in Tab's (using a custom theme )

Hi,
I'm trying to use the jquery menu plugin and use it combined with tab's. I would like to get the effect which is also in the APEX IDE ( TAB's with submenu's expanding below the TAB ).
So far I have my tab's and also my menu's which are show as a button on the page which expand when you click on them. But I would like to have the menu attached to the tab.
I found somewhere (http://www.theapexfreelancer.com/apex/f?p=APEXFREELANCER:JQUERY_MENU_PLUGIN:0) that I should name the TAB and the LIST's on which the menu's are build exactly the same to achieve this, but so far no luck.
Does anyone know of a cookbook describing how to achieve this or has any ideas what to check ?

• Using Javascript to prevent a tab or tree item from navigating?

Hello there,
I have been trying to implement the functionality across my forms that if a user has entered data but attempts to navigate away by clicking on another tab or item in a tree list they are notified that they have not clicked submit and they will ose there changes.
Using the help from: Re: detecting changes to items prior to submitting page I managed to get this working, so that if they (the user) have edited any items, an alert displays "Data has been changed. Continue anyway?", with the options OK and Cancel. However even if the user clicks cancel, the page will still navigate away losing the changes.
In the provided link from the other thread, 'grahamr' appears to have provided the solution for this but later removed this code as he couldnt get it to display properly in the forums.
Is there anyone else who might know how I can get the javascript to "block" navigation if the user selects cancel?
Thankyou for any insight anyone can provide,
Jordan

Hmm,
I had a look at your example application on the supplied link, however I cannot find any instructions or steps on how to go about implementing this method.
Using my current method (from the thread linked in the first post of this thread) I have no problem getting the javascript to recognise changes and prompt the user on trying to leave - it's just that the href continues regardless of the user clicking cancel (wish grahamr managed to resolve somehow). Do you know why this might be?
My javascript (2 posts above) is fired within the Anchor tag of my tabs and tree items like so; (Im only using [ ] brackets here so that it will display in the forum)
[a onclick="javascript:checkForChangedData();" href="#TAB_LINK#" ][font color="#FFFFFF"]#TAB_LABEL#[font][a]
Or if possible is there any assistance you could provide for implementing the method in your sample application? (I dowloaded the app but that page was not in it)
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated,
Jordan

• How to change the font size from tabs ???

Hi
I found a tip to change the CSS in the apache directory in the forum here.
but i can´t find the directory on my hard disk/oracle directory
i got this version installed:
Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Product
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
CORE 10.2.0.1.0 Production
can i change the font size of tabs/regions etc in any other way??

Hi,
The font size is defined by the style class used for the tab cells (tabs are normally created as cells in a table).
To do this, the simplest solution may be to edit the page template:
1 - Go to Shared Components/Templates
2 - Select the page template(s) that you are using (you will have to do this for each template that you've used that uses tabs)
3 - Scroll down to "Standard Tab Attributes" - you'll see two sections: Current Tab and Non Current Standard Tab.
In Current Tab, you'll have something like:
<a href="#TAB_LINK#" class="t12standardtabcurrent">#TAB_LABEL#</a>
In Non Current Standard Tab, you'll have something like:
<a href="#TAB_LINK#" class="t12standardtabnoncurrent">#TAB_LABEL#</a>
After the class="...." attribute add in style="font-size:12px" (use whatever px value you want)
4 - You should repeat the process for Current Parent Tab and Non Current Parent Tab as these contain the same settings
5 - Apply your changes
Regards
Andy

• Getting tab name or tab id or tab label at runtime

Hi All,
I think the answer is "no" but I'm going to ask anyway just in case I missed something.
I am designing some authorization schemes for my application. The context behind the design is this:
1. Two-level tabs application.
2. Access is stored in a table where an assignment between a level 2 tab is assigned to a user (well, it's really assigned to groups of users but that's not that important for this question). The level 2 tab is assigned via a select-list LOV defined as:
select
tab_label d,
tab_id r
from apex_application_tabs
where application_id = :APP_ID
and workspace = :OWNER
order by 1
So I store the TAB_ID of the 2nd level tab and it's assigned to groups of users.
So what I'd like is this at runtime:
1. For page-level security, I read the Apex data dictionary and pass APP_PAGE_ID to a function that reads the page number. I traverse the tab hierarchy in APEX_APPLICATION_TABS to see if the APP_PAGE_ID resides in TAB_PAGE or TAB_ALSO_CURRENT_FOR_PAGES to get the TAB_ID. Then I check my own assignment table to see if that TAB_ID is accessible to the user. If so, return TRUE, else, return FALSE. This is working wonderfully and isn't a problem...at runtime if I navigate to a page that is on a 2nd level tab and I don't have access to the page, the security scheme errors (correctly).
2. For tab-level security, I want that at the parent tab level that if the user has access to one or more of the 2nd level child tabs, display the parent tab.
3. For tab-level security, if the user is on a parent tab (because he/she has access to at least one child tab), only show the child tabs to which they have access.
Now the problem(s). The thing is that the user sees the tabs before they navigate to them (#2 and #3 I don't have working right now) and I want to hide them if they don't have access.
For example, let's say my parent tabs are A, B, and C. Child tabs are A1, A2, A3 underneath A. B1, B2, B3 underneath B. C1, C2, and C3 underneath C.
Let's say everything in A and underneath A (so A1, A2, and A3) are available to anyone who has a login to the application. No problem there.
Then, let's say most or all users have access to B1 but fewer users have access to B2 and B3. What I want is that if anything from B is available to a user, show parent tab B. If the user clicks on parent tab B, then show B1, B2, and B3 but only show the tabs to which they have access (so if they have access to B1 and B2 but not B3, do not display B3).
Then, let's say C is a very powerful administrative tab and very few people have access to it. I want to not-show C at all for people who do not have any access to C1, C2, or C3.
The problem I have at runtime is that I cannot find a way for a tab to pass information about itself when the tab is about to paint (or not-paint). The only variable or substitution string at runtime that I can find to reference about a tab is "CURRENT_PARENT_TAB_TEXT". However this gives me only information about the parent tab's text of the parent tab that has focus right now; each parent tab cannot pass it's own info until I navigate there. I need to get that information w/o navigating to the tab first so that I can determine to show/hide the tab. Does that make sense? In other words, at runtime, I log into the system and let's say I'm not very powerful and should only be on tabs A1, A2, and A3 under A. I log in, I land on A1, and I can see A2 and A3 (good), but also I can see parent tabs B and C poking up there too. CURRENT_PARENT_TAB_TEXT does not resolve to B or C (it currently resolves to A) until I actually try to click on B or C. I need to hide B or C before the user clicks.
Yes I can do it if I hard-code the name of the tab in a security boolean function, but I would have to have as many authorization schemes as I have tabs. This is why I want just one tab-level scheme where I pass the tab name or ID at runtime dynamically but I can't seem to reference it.
Over in the template for two-level tabls I see #TAB_LABEL#, #TAB_NAME#, #TAB_ID#, and #TAB_LINK#. These don't seem to be available to PL/SQL to pass at runtime to a PL/SQL function. If they could, this would be my answer.
Any other options or am I stuck on this one?
BTW...we are on version 3.2 of Apex and going to version 4 soon. If something is available in 4 for this that helps, I can do it then.
Ideas? Thanks!

Hey gti_matt,
Did you end up getting anywhere with this?
I'm in the same boat atm...
Thanks,
Dan

• Can't realize variable images in tabs

Hi
I use Application Express 4.0.1.00.03
Page Template : One Level Tabs
I would like to use Tabs with custom images.
When I open the Edit-Window of my tab, I find a region with textfields:
Images
-  Current Tab Image      (--TEXTBOX--)
- Non Current Tab Image (--TEXTBOX--)
-  Image Attributes       (--TEXTBOX--)
How can I use these text fields? What must I do?*
In the template of my page (I made a copy, of course) I find this:
Standard Tab Attributes
Current Tab

#TAB_LABEL#

#TAB_INLINE_EDIT#
Non Current Standard Tab

#TAB_LABEL#

#TAB_INLINE_EDIT#I see that there is a default gif set, but I have no idea how to connect the "Current Tab Image" and "Non Current Tab Image" with this html-code.
There must be something like #IMAGE# instead of the gif, but I didn't find anything yet in the internet.
-> Does anybody know how the syntax is?
-> Can anybody give me the proper google-keywords for this kind of issue?
Many thanks!

hi
First, thank you both for your suggestions!
jitu, your code looks fine but this sets the images constant.
I would like to make them variable.
Sorry, I guess my description wasn't clear enough.
This way works fine for constant images.
Here I inserted the mail.gif from Apex.

<<====================== EDIT==========

#TAB_LABEL#

#TAB_INLINE_EDIT#If I go this way:
Shared Components -> Tabs -> my_tab_set -> my_first_tab
then there is a region called "Images".
I would like to replace "menu/mail_64.gif" (see code above) with something like #ACTIVE_IMAGE# so I can use the "Current Tab Image"-Field in "my_first_tab".
Then I could use any image, no matter where it comes from.
Edit:
Uh, now I got it... You set the images variable in the code!
Okay, that's a nice workaround. I'll have to take a closer look. ^^
I just wonder if this is a comfortable way.

• Navigating from a tree.

Hi,
I do have a tree as described below in my application...
<mx:XMLList id="treeData">
<node label="Mail Box">
<node label="Home"/>
<node label="Student">
<node label="Create"/>
<node label="Edit"/>
<node label="View"/>
</node>
<node label="Professor">
<node label="Create"/>
<node label="Edit"/>
<node label="View"/>
</node>
</node>
</mx:XMLList>
Now how do i navigate to the various files from here, on the
click of the individual tree nodes. What are the containers i may
have to use to make this working.
Thanks in Advance.

Hmm,
I had a look at your example application on the supplied link, however I cannot find any instructions or steps on how to go about implementing this method.
[a onclick="javascript:checkForChangedData();" href="#TAB_LINK#" ][font color="#FFFFFF"]#TAB_LABEL#[font][a]
Or if possible is there any assistance you could provide for implementing the method in your sample application? (I dowloaded the app but that page was not in it)
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated,
Jordan

• Tab Font size

Hello
please how to change the font size and color of a tab label ?
thanks

What are the details you need ?
Go to Shared Components >Templates and edit the page template your are using for your page ("One Level Tabs" for example).
Click on the "*Tab*" tab.
Then you have two templates, one for current tab ( Current Tab ), and one for non current tabs ( Non Current Standard Tab ).
Then you can for example use the folowing :
Current Tab:

#TAB_LABEL#

Non Current Standard Tab:

#TAB_LABEL#
--------
But a cleaner way is to define your CSS in an external CSS file loaded in your page, or in your template.
Then you can use:
Current Tab:

#TAB_LABEL#

Non Current Standard Tab:

#TAB_LABEL#
And in your CSS file:
.active_tabs {
font-size:1.1em;
color:red;
.non_active_tabs {
font-size:1em;
color:black;
}I can't write it with more details ;)

How can I add the changes required to this Standard TAB.

What needs to be changed? Most details such as Date & Time can be set in System Preferences.

• Bug report: Theme 9 current tab

The One Level Tabs page template for Theme 9 (Underlined tabs) has the following in Standard Tab Attributes/Current Tab
< td>  < /td> < td> < table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" summary="">
< tr> < td> < a href="f?p=&APP_ID.:&APP_PAGE_ID.:&SESSION." class="t9tabCurrent"> < div class="t9tabCurrent"> #TAB_LABEL#< /div> < /a> #TAB_INLINE_EDIT#< /td> < /tr>
< tr> < td> < a href="f?p=&APP_ID.:&APP_PAGE_ID.:&SESSION."> < img width="110" height="8" src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_9/red.gif" alt="" /> < /a> < /td> < /tr> < /table> < /td> This is not right.
Lets say I have a tab associated with Page 10 and it also current for Page 11. I navigate to Page 11. Now I want to go back to Page 10. I click on the Page 10 tab at the top of the page. But as you can see above, that just redirects back to the same page!
Is there a workaround?
Thanks

Silly me, the workaround is just to do href="#TAB_LINK#" for the current tab template.
Hopefully this bug will be fixed in the next release so that the workaround will not be necessary.
Thanks
