Tab Search

Im working on a program where a user inputs the following when prompted: an input file name, and a new output filename. The program is supposed to search through the first file name and find all tab characters and replace them with spaces and place the final product in the second file. This program is supposed to be robust, such that if the user inputs a file that doesnt exist they will recieve an error message and re-enter the filename without the program crashing. I am having problems with recieving the user input. I have been using System.out.println() to display output but I cannot find how to recieve any input. I havent had very much experience writting to new files so I am having trouble writing to the output file name. FileOutputStream?? I also am having problems with the program being robust and not crashing when the user inputs something wrong. FileNotFoundException?? Thanks for whoever can help.

I personally ALWAYS make use of a GUI of some sort, the command line just bothers me for some reason....
Anyway, to output to files use this:
try {
DataOutputStream outFile = new DataOutputStream(
new FileOutputStream("File Name.***");
outFile.writeBytes("Some Data");
}catch(IOException e){*put your FileNotFound Code here*/}
NOTE: This will overwrite existing files
To replace tabs:
String s1="YourData";
s1=""+s1.replace('\t',' ');

  • I Hate Bing and when I click on a Firefox NEW Tab and search I keep getting Bing results, I used to get Google which I would like back, my homepage when opening Firefox is not Bing but all tab searches retrieve Bing results.

    My homepage when opening Firefox is not Bing, yet for some reason today it started using Bing instead of Google for my NEW tab search results. I already deleted Bing from the search bar, no results. Deleted Bing from my computer's control panel. I just want to be able to click a new tab and have my results in google as I always have.

    hello, you have a malicious addon present on your pc. <br>please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove ''LyricsParty''.
    also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • When I click the + button on the tab strip to open a new tab,search.conduit opens.How do I change it to get the original firefox tab page?

    I recently installed utorrent.The problem started after that.The home page is Google, but on opening a new tab, I don't get the thumbnails that is usually displayed, instead search.conduit page is opened.How can I get my old settings back? I even uninstalled utorrent to see if this problem goes away, but it doesn't.

    Thank you, but I was able to solve the problem already. There was a button named "Remove" just below the space where we enter the item to be searched in a search engine. On clicking this, I was able to return to the original new tab page. I wasn't being trigger happy while installing utorrent, there was nothing there indicating that conduit will be installed. Nevertheless, thanks a lot for trying to help me in solving my problem.

  • I tried some software that changed my settings to use Bing, How can I change my settings to have google as my new tab search. Not the upper right bar the center

    Not the upper right the center one when you click on new tab

    I'm guessing you want to use Google as your new tab page?<br>
    You can do that by editing about:config:
    *Go to about:config (via Location Bar)
    *Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" to proceed.
    *Search for '''browser.newtab.url'''
    *Right click and click Modify > type '''www.google.com'''
    *Then click OK to accept changes
    *Restart Firefox and see if the new tab pulls up as Google.

  • What character splits search terms (for different search result tabs), searching from the search box.

    When we type in a search term, in the search box, the results can be shown in a tab. But how can you split search terms while entering them all at once, each search term providing results in a new tab.
    "Search Term|Search Term Two", using |;\ etc only sends the term in entirety beyond. What does this box handle and how to make it open two tabs when given two separated search terms.
    So what is this special character or setting?
    Thank You

    Thank u so Bruce , I finally found an answer to my question.
    The solution u provided looks complete except that i am confused by the meaning of strField , may i didnt provide more details in my  post .
    The strField var i provided earlier was not meant to be placed in my code  , the correct one is shown below .However , the strField means according to me is the field against which the search operation should take place based on the ( search Term )
    the user provided .
    Here is the code after applying the solution u suggested :
    'Information collected from the user
     strWhereToSearch = IIf(.framSearchIn.Value = 1, "[quknotSubject]", "[quknotBody] ")
    strCondition = strWhereToSearch & "  Like '* " & strTextSearch & " *' OR " & _
    strWhereToSearch & " Like '" & strTextSearch & " *' OR " & _
    strWhereToSearch & "Like '* " & strTextSearch & "'"
    'Fill result search  Recordset
    strSql = " Select  * from qryExtraTool_QuickNoteSubCatMainCat   "
    strSql = strSql & " WHERE   " & strCondition & "  ORDER BY quknotDate"
    'Control Source for the text box to display matches. ( Highlight the search word )
    txtQuickNoteBody = SearchHilight(strWhereToSearch, strTextSearch)
    Tell me if my implementation to your code is right ?
    Thank u again Bruce ...

  • Awesomebar: open URL's in current tab, searches in new tab?

    I am wondering if it is possible to customize the location bar so that entering/editing a URL opens the page in the current tab, but entering a keyword search opens the results in a new tab. Any suggestions?

    I'd prefer to make it an option to ALWAYS open in a new tab.

  • What Improvements Would You Like To See in the Store? Tabs, search options?

    I just sent some feedback on the store but, you know, you never feel satisfied doing that so I thought I'd post my ideas and see if anybody else felt the same way or have found solutions for navigating through the store.
    My Feedback;
    +As a recent iPod Touch owner I enjoy downloading inexpensive apps but the process of browsing is slow and search is too limited.+
    +First the store needs Tabs So I can check out many apps quickly.+
    +Second *Sort By* needs to have more options like Sale and Price+
    Why can't you search within the App store?
    I searched "Flying" and then I have to sort through the whole store(songs , movies etc.) then I can select apps but you can't search through them or use a function like Control F to find a word.

  • I have tried everything suggested to get rid of the "Open a new tab" search page.

    I just bought a new computer with Windows7. I downloaded and installed Firefox 18.0.1 about a week ago.
    I am trying to get the history icon page to open when I click the "Open a new tab".
    Some of the things I've tried (like resetting Firefox and installing the add-on) worked but only until I shut down.
    When I load Firefox again, that pesky search page ("Open a new tab") is back.
    How can I get the history icon page to stay permanently from day to day?

    No addons, extensions or user.js file.
    Problem persists.

  • [Opening Tabs + Searching] How to make it like Chrome?

    Hey Community,
    I love Firefox and find it better than Chrome in all aspects expect for one.
    In Chrome, when I press ctrl+t to open a new tab, the keyboard input automatically directs me to the address bar, where I can type in my url or search term.
    In Firefox, when ctrl+t to open a new tab, I have to manually click on the address bar or google search bar.
    Is there any way, or addon, to modify this behavior?
    Thanks so much!

    hello, actually it should work right out of the box like this (with focus on the address bar when a new tab is opened). maybe one of your existing addons is interfereing here - could you try launching firefox in safemode once & see if it's working as intended?

  • Panorama (Group Tabs) search bar won't close

    Whenever I click the panorama icon to view my tab groups, the search bar automatically pops up, blacking out everything and making it difficult to click on things to move them or label groups. How can I solve this?

    Hi,
    Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode]. Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel?as=u '''Use hardware acceleration when available''']. All these settings/options/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme, option or hardware acceleration is causing issues. Disabling/enabling hardware acceleration, and some types of add-ons in normal mode may require a Firefox restart.

  • I WANT BING CONDUIT OUT OF MY TAB SEARCH. i tried everything

    So I got a new laptop and with it i got my trusted firefox browser. Sadly however firefox has teamed up with conduit/bing to enforce its search engines on people. They have been doing for some time now as I've read in forums. The worst part though is that I found several solutions of which did not work, pretty recent ones too like going into about:config and modifying keyword.URL.. however that is gone now as if to make it harder to remove this BS. God damn Firefox would have such a higher customer loyalty/satisfaction if they hadn't enforced their greedy dic*s in our choices.
    As for other details to help:
    I have windows 8.1, newest firefox browser recently installed and have tried deleting and changing the search engine at the top right of my window and tried the config thing^
    Sorry for any offence

    hello alhajwins, firefox is not bundled or related with conduit in any way. you're a victim of adware on your pc. please try these steps:
    # [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
    # afterwards go to firefox > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
    # finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

  • Visibility of the font in tabs, search window and tool bars is too low for me. (My vision is declining). Can I make these larger? Screen resolution is 1280X1024

    I find the font size used in the tabs, headers, etc too small. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find a way to increase it. Also the icons for accessing Bookmarks and Home page is small and hard for me to deal with.
    I do resize web pages, using Ctrl and +, that's not my problem.

    This is related more to Operating System settings, ie Windows 7 in your case, as the interface is using your OS. You could change the OS settings , or even the screen resolution. A lower resolution will actually give you bigger text.
    Changing one of the Firefox preferences also has that effect, I will turn on my other machine and look for the answer as to which one it is.

  • I foolishly removed the firefox toolbar ( meaning I have no file,view, edit, bookmark, or any other kind of tab including the search box or even a address bar). How can I get them back without reinstalling firefox please?

    Hi, I wanted more room to view on the web, so I thought I'd get rid of some of the toolbars that were taking up space. I went to the edit tab (i think) and then selected toolbars and then just unticked the ones I wanted to lose.Worked like a charm...
    Only problem was that I unticked the wrong one. Now I can't search on the web or enter a url as there is nothing there anymore. Any I do mean NOTHING expect my roboform toolbar and the "Getting Started" Firefox tab just above that.
    Reason I stressed the "nothing" is because I went on yahoo answers and someone just said...go to edit and...He obviously didn't get that I don't have any kind of firefox tabs left on my browser ( except for the "getting started" tab)
    I don't want to uninstall and reinstall as I'm worried I'll lose my bookmarked pages.
    Would be really grateful if you could advise me of an alternative solution to getting my tabs, search bar and address bar back please?
    Many thanks
    Paul
    ps as I don't have any tabs I can't tell you which version I have installed, but your clever software looks like it's got it right.

    Try this: press F10 or tap the Alt key to display the menu bar temporarily, then
    View > Toolbars > Menu Bar
    If that doesn't work, you could reset your toolbars to factory default using Firefox's Safe Mode. First, make a backup of your computer for safekeeping. To back up Firefox, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information].
    Next, start Firefox in Firefox
    [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode], and check only the box to reset toolbars. Be careful not to "reset" anything else if you didn't back up.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to disable drag-and-drop tabs to search bar?

    I always have a lot of tabs open in Firefox, and oftentimes I move tabs around, whether intentionally or habitually (and accidentally). The problem is that a lot of times the tab is dragged on/near the search bar and this causes Firefox to respond by copying the tab's address to the search and start searching.
    I would like to disable one or both of these. I never use this, especially since whatever address I'm at is already found and if I actually wanted to search for it then I would just copy it and search myself. I want to disable the auto search and if possible, also disable copying the address.

    It is possible for window creation, note this work around: [http://www.ghacks.net/2012/12/04/firefox-disable-tab-drag-and-drop-window-creation/] However I did not find one for general dragging/moving tabs.
    Another add on that provided more customization tricks is known as:
    "[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/?src=search]"
    Did this help?
    </blockquote>
    No; as I said, my problem is tabs and the search bar. I drag tabs into new windows practically everyday and the other doesn't seem to have anything related to this either. I only read the description and looked at the pictures and etc, so I did not download it to give it a thorough review prior to declining it as it doesn't seem at all related.
    Curious:
    Does that ghacks thing also disable the tab-search thing in addition to disabling new windows, or did you just post a completely different tab-drag-drop related issue?
    (not rhetorical or sarcastic, I'm actually asking)

  • My Search Results Tab Removal

    The tab 'Search Here' appears to be a permanent resident on the tab bar. HATE IT!!! I want to get rid of it. It goes to mysearchresults.com. I went there and ask them how to remove it. They gave me these directions:
    Go to Tools --> Add-ons
    Highlight Default Tab and click the Options button
    Clear the check box next to "Show search on new tabs"
    If on goes to Tools --> Add-ons, there is no tab that says Default. All there is are selections one can make down the left side reading:
    Get Add-ons
    Extenstions
    Appearence
    Plung-ins
    Available Updates
    I am using Firefox 16.0.1 and these instructions don't seem to apply to this version.
    I need a little hand-holding. Can someone give me clearer, step-by-step instructions on how to uninstall this puppy?
    Thanks

    That got it! The 'Default Tab' extension is the default tab. Duh!!!
    Thanks madperson
