Tabbing through Embedded Flash text fields

Hi all,
When run outside of Director, users can tab to each text
input field in the SWF. But when the SWF is embedded, the tabbing
doesn't work...Anyone know how to make this work?

You have to give focus to the Flash sprite. Then the tabbing
should work as expected. Click on the Flash sprite and then try
tabbing.

Using a rich text editor to style a Flash text field

I've been trying to build a user interface that would allow someone to change the content of a dynamic field (loaded from a text file) using a rich text editor. However the editor inserts inline css style tags like <span style="text-decoration: underline;"> which Flash aparently can't understand. If the editor were instead to insert the following: <span class="ul"> where the stylesheet defined it as:
.ul {
text-decoration: underline;
display: inline;
then everything would be fine. But it doesn't and I can't change it.
I am currently using a rich text editor that I access as follows:

The editor above is "applied" to a textarea within an html form. Then the text is saved to a text field with the embeded styles.

Does anyone know of a richtext editor that uses just html tags (not css like <span style="text-decoration: underline;">) or that uses css styling that Flash as3 can understand?

How to handle carriage return/linefeed embedded in text field as first char

Hi,
I am trying to use sqlldr to import text that is comma-separated and double quote-enclosed, but contains embedded carriage return/linefeed pairs. I have a control file which works for most cases and looks like this:
LOAD DATA
INFILE './foo.new'
APPEND
CONTINUEIF LAST PRESERVE (<>'"')
INTO TABLE <tablename>
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," ENCLOSED BY '"'
TRAILING NULLCOLS
Unfortunately, this fails when the very first character of the text field is a carriage return/linefeed pair, e.g.,:
"11","22","33","\r\nThis is the fourth field","","","","",""
In that case, what is actually the opening double-quote for the fourth field, is interpreted by the CONTINUEIF clause as the end of that line. Can anyone please point me to a solution?

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I've already tried it, and it doesn't help. I believe the problem is that sqlldr tries to figure out where each record is delimited before it parses out the field. So, any field-level trimming depends on sqlldr first determining that the cr/lf is actually part of that record, and not an indication of the start of a new record (and it's doing the latter right now). Fwiw, Python's csv parser will handle this type of record just fine.

Problem with embedding Flash Text/HTML Code

Hey all, im new to DW and just created a html page with a
black background and a picture. I also added a flash text called
"Enter Forum" by using "Insert>Media>Flash Text"
When i copy and paste the code that is generated in the
"Code" section/tab on to my server in the index/html and go to view
my site it is not there. I uploaded the .swf file to my server
also, i have played around with the coding a bit to see if i was
doing anythng wrong but nothing works. Below is the code DW renders
to me. I simply copy and paste this code that DW renders and paste
it in to my server's index.html (Main Page) file. I checked the emd
src and all thats correct.

Can you post the url to show us the page on your server? If
you copied
everything, it could be you have too many doc types, headers
and body tags
in your index.html page.

How can I get the tab key to select text fields only?

Since upgrading to Firefox 4 on Windows, the tab key functions differently. How do I change it so that it only selects text input fields?

The answer is: The bug is in the UI. Speech recognition was enabled, by default it uses the bare escape key as a "mic on" indicator, and it does not leave any trace in the keybord configuration. So that is the bug. It needs to leave a trace there, a la: "X Listen-for-voice-command ^" under Mission Control.

Embedding SWF in a text field

Hi, New user to Flash here with a problem embedding .SWF
files. I have already existing SWF files that I have called
historically from HTML using <object> to embed the object and
<param name= value=> also to pass it information. The SWF
movie I need to embed basically builds a graph and takes its data
from the location you supply it in <param name= value=>
field. This code is not mine and I can't alter it.
What I want to do is construct a flash version of my site and
embed these graphs within a flash textfield. I have been able to
successfully embed a test SWF file using <img> tags on a text
field ---> but here is my question. How do I support the
<param name= value=> functionality I got when I called these
graphs from HTML using <object>?
I hope that's clear? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

That's a really interesting approach. At first, I didn't
understand
what you were aiming for, but it sounds to me like you're
tying to use HTML
inside a Flash text field -- which is doable, to some extent
-- and embed an
external SWF in that HTML ... all within Flash.

That does work, but it's about the closest you'll get, I'm
afraid. It's
only happenstance that Flash's very narrow (and somewhat
unique) version of
HTML accepts SWFs in an <img> tag.

Flash only supports a very limited subset of the HTML
language. You can
see the full list of supported tags by searching the phrase
"supported tags"
in the documentation (specifically, the Learning ActionScript
2.0 in Flash
book). For better or worse, <object>, <param>,
and <embed> are simply not
in that list.

If you see the F4 help in text field then Text Id is four character and when I manually assign this in transactin then it is putting = symbol in fron of the id. And then if we save or go to other tab then it is filling text.
I am not able to find the error bcoz document is being posted through idoc but text field is not getting filled.

Once again I need some guidance with my form please.
I have a form (audit report) with numerous radio buttons with 4 options each, NA, CN, PC and C.
Each represents a different answer to the question associated with the radio button.
This answer this then passes through to a text field next to the radio buttons.
In turn at the beginning of my form I have an executive brief giving a run down on findings from the different questions asked. These are a reflection of the text fields associated with the radio buttons.
These are represented as 2 text fields namely, Non-compliant (NC), partial – compliant (PC).
What I am getting now is a whole lot of “null” answers that change when one of the radio buttons are selected and reflects that answer associated with the selection, both NC and PC text fields are the same and I then have to edit it and delete the PC from the NC section and the same for the PC section.
What I would like to happen is that all the “nulls” are hidden and only when the answer representing the NC or PC buttons are selected, that those answer get represented through to the Non-compliant (NC), partial- compliant (PC) text fields in my executive brief. IE some sort of filter for each text filed that only displays the NC or PC answers.
Any help or guidance will be appreciated.

This method works for a Text Field but can you text wrap and expand to fit the height of a cell that is a Drop-down List. The Expand to fit check box on the Layout palette is greyed out for all my Drop-down boxes. I have also tried using the following JavaScript:

but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Placing cursor in text field using AS3

I am a newbie to actionscript 3.0 and need a litlle help that I have not been able to find searching (for two weeks).
I would like the cursor to appear and blink in the first text field in a movie clip that gathers information to be sent to a php. The following does not work.
stage.focus = textField;
textField.setSelection(textField.text.length,textF ield.text.length);
And the only other things I find are for custom cursors. I just want the visitor to see the blinking cursor in the firstName_txt input box when the page appearss.
Also, if the visitor tabs from one input text field to the other, the blinking cursor appears in the first three input text fields but not in the fourth. Yet, the visitor can enter text in the fourth input text field.

I have tested by clicking crtl+enter and uploaded the files to my isp for testing. Neither effort is successful.
BTW, thanks for helping and I am sorry about the cross posting. My bad. I didn't realize there was a section for actionscript at the time.

Declaring a text field in ztable

dear all,
iam trying to declare a text field for inserting comments in a ztable. first iam declaring it in a code and updating it in to a ztable through program. this text field is given in alv as edit mode than tere some text is maintained in output(i.e in editable alv) than user when clicks save than total records r updated to ztable.
my problem is that this text field is taking only 5 to 6 letters as input.

While building a fieldcatalogue for output table set the parameter OUTPUTLEN of fielcatalogue equal to the lenghth of the number of characters u want to enter.This will allow u to enter as much characters u want.
i_fieldcat TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF lvc_s_fcat,
wa_fieldcat LIKE LINE OF i_fieldcat.
wa_fieldcat-outputlen = '20'.
APPEND wa_fieldcat TO i_fieldcat.

IOS text field problem.

I need the user to enter a word, so I added a simple text field to the stage. However, it behaves strangely on the actual device (iPod Touch). Attached are two screenshots that show how the font size increases when the input is activated. Has anybody seen this problem?

I believe you have specified a textFormat for the text. You need to add the following

This sets all of the existing text in the text field to the specified format (making it the same as the default). Now when the text field is first rendered it uses the default format that you set, and when you type it also uses that same format, and so the format no longer appears to change.

I will explain this through an example.
In my application I have created two Select Lists.
The first select list is a select list with a submit
P3_X allows selection of 1,2,3
The page branch sets the value of P3_X with &P3_X. so that way the second select list knows what value it will be using.
The second select list P3_Y is a dynamic query that says
Select SCOL d, SCOL r from TEST1 where FCOL=:P3_X
If you were to have a third select list you would make the second Select List also a submit and have the page branch also set P3_Y with &P3_Y.
The third Select list would say select from where item=:P3_Y

Mail Merge from Numbers with long text fields

I'm having trouble doing a Mail Merge that's reading fields from a Numbers spreadsheet. Everything is working as expected except for my one field that contains several sentences of text for each record. Nothing from that field gets transferred into the merged document and there is no error message (the courtesy of an error message would be much appreciated if I'm hitting some limit of the feature!).
If I make fairly short text fields, it will merge successfully, but it would be tedious to go through my large text field and break each one into multiple shorter ones, and I haven't been able to figure out the limit on text length if there is one, so there would be a lot of trial and error. It doesn't seem to be by number of words, so perhaps it is by number of characters?
I have tried cutting and pasting into a new table in Numbers, pasting as values in case there was any weird formatting at issue.
I can't find anything to help me either fix this or at least know what the limitations are on Mail Merge. The only discussion I found here suggested either splitting the text fields or creating a new document, and those haven't worked for me.

Numbers can do a character count, but unfortunately can't do that 'live' as you are entering characters into the entry box; only when the string has actually been entered into a cell.
You can, however, make an estimate of the number of characters by entering them into a text frame of fixed width using a mono-spaced font. In the examples below, the font is Andale Mono 10pt, and the text boxes are 4.50 inches wide.

You can also get the actual character count using the LEN() function. In the table on the left, each of the cells B3, B4 and B5 contain the formula
=LEN(A)-254
A3, A4 and A5 contain part or all of the text shown in the two text boxes. I've set the alignment of these cells to 'Align right' to show the end of each string.
The Conditional formatting rules below are applied to cells B4 and B5. They set the background colour of the cell to 'amber' when the cell in column A is within 10 characters of the maximum and to red when the maximum is exceeded. The numbers in the cells show how many more characters may be added (negative numbers) or how many excess characters (positive numbers) are in the cell to the left.
These check cells may be placed in a separate table, and the formula revised to include the table name of the data table.

Retaining the cursor on a Text Field when error on the field

Hi,
We have a requirement, where when we tab out of a text field, the data entered gets validated and exceptions are caught using array list and then thrown on top of the page.
However, we have a requirement, that on tab out, the cursor should remain in the same field in case there are errors thrown on that field otherwise should move to the next field.
My Approach is
1) Capture the tabout event in PFR.
2) If the validation returns erorr messages, do a forwardImmediately to CurrentPage
3) Set the focus in PR and throw the exception.
I read the discussion on the link How to set focus on a textinput/poplist using PPR
and tried the same approach but below are my observations.
Approach - 1) WITH FIRE PARTIAL ACTION on text field.
Input = Invalid, then error message is thrown and I am not able to see the cursor.
Input = Valid , then I see the cursor in the next text field, which is correct.
Approach - 2) WITH FIRE ACTION
Input = Invalid, then error message is thrown, the text in the textfield looks selected, which is the required functionality.
Input = Valid, then still I see the same text as selected. Here I dont want the text to be selected and want the cursor to move to the next field. This is not happening.
Please let me know where exactly I am committing the mistake.
