  • Function modules and function groups

    Hi alll
Can anybody explain me abt function module and function groups...please
    Thanks and Regards
    vijaya

<b>Function groups</b> are containers for function modules. You cannot execute a function group. When you call an function module, the system loads the whole of its function group into the internal session of the calling program (if it has not already been loaded).
The name of a function group can be up to 26 characters long. This is used by the system to create the components of the group (main program and corresponding include programs). When you create a function group or
function module in the Function Builder [Ext.] , the main program and include programs are generated automatically.
When you create a new function group, the system automatically creates a main program containing two includes. Like any other programs and includes, you can display them in the Repository Browser.
The name of the main program is assigned by the system. This is made up of the prefix SAPL followed by the function group name. For example, the main program for function group SXXX is called SAPLSXXX.
The names of the include files begin with L followed by the name of the function group, and conclude with UXX ( or TOP for the TOP include). The TOP include contains global data declarations that are used by all of the function modules in the function group. The other include file within the main program is used to hold the function modules within the group.
You cannot declare a COMMON PART in a function group. Function groups have their own table work areas (TABLES). Function groups encapsulate data.
All of the function modules in a function group can access the global data of the group. For this
reason, you should place all function modules that use the same data in a single function group.
For example, if you have a set of function modules that all use the same internal table, you could
place them in a function group containing the table definition in its global data.
Like executable programs (type 1) and module pools (type M), function groups can contain screens, selection screens, and lists. User input is processed either in dialog modules or in the corresponding event blocks in the main program of the function group. There are special include programs in which you can write this code. In this way, you can use function groups to
encapsulate single screens or screen sequences.
For function module, have a look at
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/26/64f623fa8911d386e70000e82011b8/content.htm
    I hope it helps.

  • Call an executable program inside function module and pass the table values

    Hi,
i'm pretty new to HR Abap programming. I have a requirement like "calling an executable program within a function module and the output of the program data(Stored in internal tables) should be passed to the function module tables".
I've some idea about SUBMIT keyword and i used it in the function module..
Please do the needful to solve this.
    Regards,
    Selvi.

    Hi,
    Thanks for all your reply.
I've used Option 3 as per dsouzajovito suggestion. Now i'm getting data in function module tables using import/ export table to memory concept.
Again a small issue arises, while i'm executing function module it fetches all pernr available in the server and displays the details of last pernr. GET pernr statement is used in the Z report and submit statement is used like this as follows.
SUBMIT ZHR_RFC_PAYSLIP   WITH  PERNR-PERNR EQ EMPCODE
                                          WITH PYBEGDA EQ FDATE
                                          WITH PYENDDA EQ LDATE
                                          AND RETURN.
Pls suggest if there is any corrections in the code.
If i give a pernr as input in the function module, then it should fetch the details related only to that pernr.
FYI, No selection screen is used here as per requirement.

    Selvi.

  • Crystal Reports Based on SAP Function Module and Transperant Tables

    Hi,
I need to develop reports based on SAP trasperant tables and to filter the records I require to use one of the function module in SAP.
I have created parameters in Crystal reports that are required for the function to execute and are included in the where clause of the query. This helped the fuction to get those parameters and execute it.
The thing is that the fuction works fine with one set of parameters and gives accurate results both in SAP and Crystal Reports.
But fails for other set of parameters.
It works fine when we directly execute function in SAP produces a record set. But, when we pass those parameters from Crystal Reports it fetches no data.
Can anybody tell me the exact procedure to use function module and transperent tables together in Crystal Reports ?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Niwas Joshi

    Hi,
This is going to be hard to explain, however you need to recognize that the function has input and possibly output (export) parameters.  Crystal Reports is able to work with these parameters.  However it is up to you to figure out how these parameters are used effectively to give you the correct results when joining the function with other data sources such as transparent tables.
If you're using transparent tables and functions in a Crystal Report, then you need to link these objects in such a way so that a left outer join for example is using the function's output parameters to join to the transparent table equivalent fields.  However if the table is the starting point then the joins from the table should join the Input parameters of your function.
you can set these joins in the Database menu | Database Expert | Links of Crystal Reports.

  • Custome BAPI - declare ITAB and define the Function Module and Subroutine

    Hello Experts
I want to create a Custom BAPI and it has the following scenario:
    1) a Function Module which collects some records into it internal table, say ITAB
    2) a Subroutine which moved the records from ITAB to BAPI table
Now, I want to declare ITAB and define the Function Module and Subroutine.
Where and How can I do this?
    Plz suggest.
    Regards
    BD

    Hi,
      1) Got to SE37 and create an RFC .
      2) Declare the ITAB directly in the TABLES tab of the FM.
      3) Inside the FM source Code tab, collect all the data using SELECT query and directly or by using logic, put the data into the
          ITAB.
      4) Since the data collected is directly put into the itab you dont need a subroutine to be written.
      5) If subroutine is a necessity, then just write PERFORM SUB ROUTINE NAME.
AND DEFINE THE FORM ENDFORM OF THE SUBROUTINE AFTER THE ENDFUNCTION OF THE FM
Let me know if any issues....

    Vimal.

  • RFC enabled function module and BAPI?

What is the difference between RFC enabled function module and BAPI?
I have requirement to develop a new BAPI which will update a custom table and read the same table in SAP from an external application.
Do we need define a port or RFC destination for the external application to use the new BAPI?
I am clear how the external application access the BAPI.
    Thank you

BAPI are business objects which are basically object oriented. Created and linked with business objects in <b>SWO1</b>. Those business objects will be listed under BAPI tcode.
Where are RFC enabled Function call are not like that. They are just Function modules which can be accessed remotely from an SAP application.
For your example updating table, you may need to create BAPIs in SWO1 and access using those using object oriented methods from external application.
    Cheers,
    Thomas.

  • Documentation of Function Modules and Class Methods

    Hi
I would like to know the function modules that handle the documentation of function modules and class methods. Is it possible to assign the same documentation of a function module to a method as method documentation?
Are these documentations stored in some system tables?
    Thanks in advance,
    Hema

The documentation text is stored as Standard text.
you can see these details in the function module->
    goto->documentation->
you will now see a screen, there GOTO->HEADER.
YOU will see a screen with the below details.
    Text Name       Z0MM_SCM_FNC_EVCOR_DELIVERY
    Language        EN
    Text ID         FU   Function module
    Text object     DOKU       Online Documentation
in this case TEXT NAME = FUNCTION MODULE NAME.
These details are stored in STXH &STXL . But you can use select from these tables. you have to use READ_TEXT to read the documentation to the program.

  • Where to see all available function modules and their purposes.

    Dear all Experts,
Can anybody please tell  where i will be able to see the all availble function modules, and their purpose....
eg, if i have to retrive data from my pc file (.txt or .xls) , using GUI_UPLOAD, then i have to take file name in form of string.
to take that from user, in form of string, we use function  <b>'KD_GET_FILENAME_ON_F4'</b>..
can anybody give related links ?

  • How to create RFC function module and how to call this function module

    Hi,
i want to know step for creating RFC function module and then How to  use this function module from some other sap system.
    Thnaks,
    jigar

    Jigar,
To implement a remote function module in ABAP, perform the following steps:
Register the module as remotely callable in the RFC server system.
In the function module Administration screen (transaction code SE37), set the field Can be called via REMOTE CALL. Registering a module as remote causes an RFC stub to be generated for it.
Write the code for the function module.
    Create the destinations.....................
    Displaying, Maintaining and Testing Destinations
To display, create or modify destinations, choose Tools ® Administration ® Administration ® Network ® RFC destinations or enter transaction code SM59.
Remote Destinations are stored in table RFCDES. The RFCDES table describes logical destinations for remote function calls.
It is not possible to maintain the RFCDES table directly.
You can also access logical destinations via the Implementation Guide (IMG) by choosing Tools ® AcceleratedSAP ® Customizing ® Execute Project ® SAP Reference IMG.
In the Implementation Guide, expand the following hierarchy structure:
    Basis
    Application Link Enabling (ALE)
    Sending and Receiving Systems
    Systems in Network
Define Target Systems for RFC Calls
    Displaying Destinations
The initial screen for this transaction displays a tree:
Different connection types (i.e. partner systems or programs) are possible. For further information, see Types of Destinations.
To display all information for a given destination, double-click it, or place the cursor on it and press F2 .
To search for a destination, press the Find button and specify your selection. You get a list of all entries matching your selection. Place the cursor on the one you want, and press F2 or simply double-click the destination. All information for the given entry appears.
    Creating Destinations
On the destinations overview screen (transaction code SM59), the connection types and all existing destinations are displayed in a tree structure.
All available connection types are explained in Types of Destinations.
To create a new RFC destination, press the Create button. A new screen is displayed with empty fields for you to fill in.
If you want to create a new destination
As you create a remote destination, you can specify a particular application server or a group of servers for a balanced distribution of system load.
For details of the destination parameters, see Entering Destination Parameters.
    Changing Existing Destinations
On the destinations overview screen (transaction code SM59), the connection types and all existing destinations are displayed in a tree structure.
You can display all information for a given destination by double-clicking it or pressing F2 on it.
To change an existing destination, double-click it, or place the cursor on it and press the Change button.
For details of the destination parameters, see Entering Destination Parameters.
    Testing Destinations
To test a destination, choose the appropriate function from the Test menu.
Connection (also available via the Test connection pushbutton)
    Authorization (checks logon data)
Local network (provides a list of application servers)
You can use the CALL FUNCTION statement to call remote functions, just as you would call local function modules. However, you must include an additional DESTINATION clause to define where the function should run:
    CALL FUNCTION RemoteFunction
    DESTINATION Dest
    EXPORTING
    f1 =...
    f2 =...
    IMPORTING
    f3 =...
    TABLES
    t1 =...
    EXCEPTIONS......
The field Dest can be either a literal or a variable: its value is a logical destination (for example, "hw1071_53") known to the local SAP System. Logical destinations are defined in the RFCDES table (or the TRFCD table in R/2 Systems) via transaction sm59 or the following menu path: Tools ® Administration, Administration ® Network ® RFC destinations. You can also access logical destinations via the Implementation Guide (IMG) by choosing Tools ® Customizing ® Enterprise IMG. In the Implementation Guide, you can then choose Cross-application components ® ALE ® Communication ® Define RFC destination.
The remote function call concept, for example, allows you to access a function module in an R/2 System from an ABAP program in an R/3 System. If you want to read a customer record from your R/2 System’s database, create a remotely callable function module in the R/2 environment which retrieves customer records. Call this function from your R/3 System using a remote function call and listing the destination for the target R/2 System:

  • Tracking later which RFC Modules or Function Modules were selected

    Hi!
How can I to reproduce or track later which RFC Modules or Function Modules were selected.
I can see only the Model Name and the classes but never the  RFC Modules or Function Modules
    inside of WebDynproExplorer or elsewhere.
    Regards
    sas

    Hello!
I suppose my question was not understandable.
Therefore I try to explain it.
I mean how can I find out later which function modules have been choosen
while importing adaptive RFC Model wizard. Imagine you have an existing
webdynpro project made by your college or friends. And now you want to
understand it. You look to Web Dynpro Explorer tree inside NWDS and
open the folder "Models" and all what you see is a Modelname and some classes
if a model has benn created before. In that case you can not reproduce exactly
which  Function Modules or Function Module has been taken by the developer.
I hope it clarifies the matter.

    sas

  • Difference between Function module and a subroutine

    hi
In the case of subroutine i can access the global workarea values.
I want to know whether in the case of function module
    whether
i can follow the same procedure to access the workarea values
                                       or
i have to pass this workarea values as an import or tables parameter to the function module and then use it
(in first case whether that workarea to make global whether i have to place it in function pool please check this but which is better one)
Thx in advance for any replies.

    Yes
You would have to pass the values as import parameters to access the global variables of the program otherwise you will not be able to get the values of the global variable from inside the program.
Another solution would be to export to SAP memory but the entire concept of modularization of using the FM would be lost.

  • Examples for using function modules and BApis.

    My Dear FRNDS,
I am very new to ABAP. And I have read the documentation for  function modules but i am not that clear to practice them.So I would be very happy if u people share a little bit of ur experience with me.
Please provide me some examples of all the use cases in function modules and specially exception handling.
Frnds, i am going to work with bapis so i feel practicing function module will give me a edge.

    Go thru this link
    http://www.planetsap.com/LIST_ALL_BAPIs.htm
    BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT
Execute external Commit when using BAPIs
This method executes a COMMIT WORK command. It is required for
transactions developed externally to the R/3 System that change data in
the R/3 System via BAPI calls.
When you call BAPIs in your program that change data in the R/3 System,
afterwards you must call this method to write the changes to the
    database.
    COMMIT WORK
The statement COMMIT WORK completes the current SAP LUW and opens a new one, storing all change requests for the currenta SAP LUW in the process
there are some FM that we use for creating trasaction . for example FM : that use for creating production order . if you execut the FM , the system will not create any data in the system so you need to excute the FM : BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT to commit that creating the production order .
in case of commit work, that is a syntax in abap program . if you use this syntax after you insert ,update or delete table in the sap ,system will do it immediately otherwise the system will do it after execution is complete.
    ROLLBACK WORK.
for confirming or undoing database updates. COMMIT WORK always concludes a database LUW and starts a new one. ROLLBACK WORK always undoes all changes back to the start of the database LUW.

    Raj.

  • What is the difference between the normal function module and bapi function

    hi,
what is the difference between the normal function module and bapi function module.

    Hi
BAPI stands for Business API(Application Program Interface).
A BAPI is remotely enabled function module ie it can be invoked from remote programs like standalone JAVA programs, web interface etc..
You can make your function module remotely enabled in attributes of Function module but
A BAPI are standard SAP function modules provided by SAP for remote access. Also they are part of Businees Objest Repository(BOR).
BAPI are RFC enabled function modules. the difference between RFc and BAPI are business objects. You create business objects and those are then registered in your BOR (Business Object Repository) which can be accessed outside the SAP system by using some other applications (Non-SAP) such as VB or JAVA. in this case u only specify the business object and its method from external system in BAPI there is no direct system call. while RFC are direct system call Some BAPIs provide basic functions and can be used for most SAP business object types. These BAPIs should be implemented the same for all business object types. Standardized BAPIs are easier to use and prevent users having to deal with a number of different BAPIs. Whenever possible, a standardized BAPI must be used in preference to an individual BAPI.

  • To use SubRoutines and function modules and include

    Hellow Friends ,
Can any body suggest me at waht situations we have to use SubRoutines and function modules and include in an abap report and also i need the standards in an abap program.

    Hi Rajesh,
You use create subroutines within your programs for those block of codes which are used often within the scope of the development. Function modules are like global subroutines , hence any number programs which might want to use the functionality within the function module can do so.
Creating includes is a good programming prctise, e.g. one for data declerations , one for subroutines, so that it makes the code more reader friendly and also helps in modularizing the program. Also once you put a subroutine in an include, you can use the same subroutine in other programs by referring to the include with the INCLUDE statement in your other programs.
Hence basically they are used for :
    1. Reusability
    2. Modularization of code (make it more readable)
Hope this is of some help.
    Regards,
    Aditya
