Table Widget

Hi. I am trying to insert a table into Adobe Captivate 7. I am using the built in table widget.
But the problem I am having is that the widget seems only capable of displaying one line of text in the cell and won't show all the rows. (I have four). I thought resizing it might work, but that isn't the solution. It just distorts the text in the cells already displayed.
How do you make the widget display multiple lines and as many rows as you need?
Best regards,
Doug Herrington

No wrapping text in cells. You can insert rows/columns by clicking on the arrow that shows when you have a row selected, it has a tiny + sign.

    Hi Muse testers,
This is my first attempt at a mucow widget ... I wanted to provide it in case it was something you might find useful.
I'm sure Adobe will be creating a table widget soon, but I have created this as a way to make an editable table powered by a spreadsheet
The following page provides instructions and a link at end to the beta for people to try out. It's for a three-column table. Feel free to test it out ...

I'm surprised you put your TableVirtual class in the org.eclipse.swt.widgets
package. Isn't it considered bad form to add classes to a package that is
owned by others like this? It seems that it would imply TableVirtual was
part of the open source SWT widgets in the eclipse.org repository.

  • Table Widget. Inserting text, audio file and pdf file.

    Hi everyone,
I have a client [Church organization] They want to put all their Sermon audio in their website. Similar to this: http://www.calvarysj.org/?page_id=1310
They have a lot audio files and I think I need to sort it by year or per book but going to back to my question does anyone know how to do it or what kind of widget should I use?

  • SWT table widget and multi column sorting

    Hello,
I want to make the standard SWT table widget support multi column sorting.
Searching on the web didn't lead to useful results. The Nebula project should be the last option.
I guess I need a comparator chain, but how do I realize aspects like let columns appear blue when marked or mark multiple columns by pressing shift key and left mouse button?
    Any examples are much appreciated.
    Thank you very much!

  • UWL Tasks in Widgets

    Hi all,
I just want to have all my UWL tasks and alerts of portal in my widgets. Please let me know if you people have any ideas.
    Regards,
    Purush.

What ideas are you looking for?
You can create a widget in any number of ways to display this information. The simplest to get started would be to create a widget based on the "Table Widget Template".
Did you need ideas on how to get the data?
If you wanted to get fancy, you might want to create a flex application to show the data and embed it into a widget. The flex app could then be reused elsewhere.

  • Simple Spry Table

Basically i have a regular HTML table of static data that I
wish to make the columns sortable. I do not wish to load the data
    via a dataset.
Looking at the Dreamweaver CS3 help files is suggests that
    this is possible:
"If you are creating a simple table, you can set one or more
columns as sortable and define CSS styles for various table
    elements."
"If you are creating a simple Spry Table, deselect the
default option, Update Detail Region When Row Is Clicked. Keep the
option selected if you are creating a dynamic master Spry table. "
Now by using the insert spry table command in DW, the "Update
Detail Region When Row Is Clicked" is already deselected and it
will not allow me to insert a spry table until i define a dataset.
Is what I am trying to do at all possible?
    TIA

    Hi,
We are thinking about making a table widget that will do
what you are looking to do, but for now you will have to make a
    data set.
But, you can use the HTMLDataSet and use your existing HTML
    table as the data source.
    Check out this sample.

    Hope this helps.

    Armin,
First of all than you for your reaction. I couldn't answer earlier because I was too busy to catch up with project deadlines.
I checked the mapping between the custom controller and the view controller is done. It should be OK since I can display the bapi returned table in a Table widget.
But I still don't know how to access this returned table from the wdDoInit() method of the view controller.
    My context is as following:
    Bapi_Currency_Getlist_Input
      -- Curreny_List
         -- Currency
I can get a reference to currentBapi_Currency_Getlist_Input, next I can get a reference to currentCurrency_ListElement. But as from this point, I can't get a List or any other container with the currency values. (The bapi I call is bapi_currency_getlist and I try to create a value help with curency values)

  • Can I add a table in a slide?

I need to structure a few links in a slide and I'm not sure how best to do this. I was thinking that a table would instill some sort of order.

Can you please provide more details on this? What you have currently and what exactly are you trying to achieve?
The table widget and interaction will not support hyperlinks in them.

  • How to setup a (ui) class in a readable way ?

I'm pretty new to java (and java's OO model) and i can't really think of a nice way to do this :
I'm creating a UI, a JFrame which has a JTabbedPane (with 8 tabs)
and each of these 8 tabs contains either a few listboxes or a pretty complex form (think: 8 textboxes, dragdrop lists, buttons, labels, etc.).
now i know how to code this but tossing it all in a single class will make it HUGE and thus pretty unmaintainable (i'm a pretty 'clean' programmer but still, thousands of lines in a method never looks good).
Does anyone have any tips on how to organise my "ui building" code in multiple classes or interfaces or something else.
When push comes to shove and the application is running the tabs do share some functionality (example: if you choose an item from a list in tab2 then the complex form on tab3 gets filled with the values of that item), so they are not truely separate entities.
I usually have no trouble organising my code in a nice manner but visual/ui code in java doesn't really seem to fit into my way of thinking :)
Any help would be appreciated !

If a panel/tab has about 10 input components (input
boxes, lists, buttons, etc.) and each of them has a
label (pretty common) then you're easily talking
about 25+ swing components (10x component, 10x label,
some additional scrollpanes e.a.). Now imagine the
form with 8 of these tabs , and we're talking about a
few hundred of components.Once again, break them up. Why do all eight tabs have to be in the same class? You could easily define eight different classes that return or are eight different JComponent or JPanel instances and add each as a tab. Making each it's own class might not be appropriate in your case, but the point is they don't need to be in the same class or even the same source file.
A typical Swing component needs about 5 (for a
JButton) to 15 (for a JList in a scrollpane) lines of
code to be initialized and tossed in the
panel/layoutmanager. This means that my hundreds of
components (together) need thousands of lines of
code, just to place them.Where do you see redundancy in your code? Can you extract any of this redundancy to a separate method that can be called once for each component? Why does the initialization even have to be in the same place as the actual placement?
For this reason, im looking for a good way to
separate the UI (The view part of MVC) into
sub-components. Reusability isn't really my concern
at the moment, maintainability and good practise is.
Besides, my skills with swing are too limited at the
moment to be thinking about abstraction/reusability
within the UI anyway.I don't think your knowledge of Swing matters. We're not talking about creating a robust custom table widget. We're talking about something as simple as moving code that creates a JPanel to show an address to another class called "AddressPanel" for example.
I guess the real trouble is with me anyway, i'm
pretty new to java (and swing) and although i really
like the things it CAN do, i don't like the amount of
code it takes to do it (mostly a swing problem i
guess). I'm a big fan of abstraction and interfaces
and all, but the amount of code needed to use simple
components (such as listboxes) and placement on the
form (whole layoutmanagers paradygm) just keeps the
codebase huge and ugly. There were many design decisions made with Swing that I disagree with. For example, it's massive depedency on concrete inheritance and the implications it has, forcing you into concrete inheritance yourself. However, in the end it's pretty powerful and you can use these things as a benefit. For example, separate intialization and layout. They do not need to be in the same place.
Maybe instead of worrying too much how to separate
stuff in the "View" part of MVC), i should be looking
at alternatives to Swing that are more appealing to
my desire of having a clean codebase (maybe SWT or
Buoy is any better? honoustly haven't looked yet) or
maybe i should just ride it out and write a little
wrapper/framework around swing myself (step by
step).I am not aware of any solution out there as robust and consistent as Swing that is supported on all Java platforms. SWT sounds nice, but you rely on Eclipse to continue to support it on your target platforms. Maybe that's acceptable to you, but if it's not you're probably stuck with Swing.
A typical java project of mine is (imo) pretty nicely
setup (overall model, separation of functionality,
codestyle, the use of 3rd party packages etc.) but
has the UI in there as the ugly black sheep ;p (with
either big classes or lots of classes).Refactoring is the best approach in my opinion. Check out Martin Fowler's book "Refactoring" if you're not familiar with what I mean. It doesn't require you to completely rethink your design or make massive changes. You just need to make little improvements, and in the end it adds up to a good solution. At least that's my experience.
I'm just coding java applications for myself (usually
more into non-UI programming) so i have the luxury of
being able to try different approaches without
worrying about a timetable. Best thing to do now is
to think my current model over (compare it to true
MVC and see what's different) and try to implement
the "Command pattern" stuff and see where that gets
me.The hardest part is figuring out how to implement MVC well using Swing. Or at least that's been the most difficult thing for me. I understand MVC. I understand Swing. Combining the two to meet my requirements has been a challenge and I still don't have the answer. After the fifth "re-design" I gave up the notion of figuring it out and decided to just do it and refactor whenever I saw something that smelled. So far it's working out pretty well.

  • Feature Wish List

I been using FormCentral for a couple of weeks now and I just wanted to share my thoughts on the features I personally miss the most.
    Design:
Calculations: We use forms for lots of stuff, but one of them is ordering stuff internally between departments. In this usecase I could really use some way to show the person ordering how much they bought for. In my usecase I could "settle" for some kind of table widget. Set column names, add rows and item price. Let the "amount" column be fillable by the user. The widget should calculate the subtotal column automatically and beneath the subtotal column a "total" cell should be added with the total price.
    Item name
    Amount
    Item Price
    Subtotal
    Filled by author
    Filled by user
    Filled by author
    Calculated
Currency options: When currency is selected for a text field, add an open textfield (4 characters max perhaps?) under "required" "include help text", for the users to input their own currency symbol. Those who want to use the dollar can just input $ or an € or as I need here in Denmark "kr.".
Validation options: I could use some more basic validation options. Amount of characters etc.
Customize errormessages: As required fields generate an errormessage when not filled, I would like to be able to customize these for easy localization.
    Distribution:
While announcement emails helped quite a bit, I would really love to be able to mail predefined reciepients who has nothing to do with authoring the forms. In my usecase we have people handling a central storage who need to recieve a summary report when ever someone fills the form (an order), so they can ship the order. Likewise accounting needs a copy of the summary for them to handle the internal billings between the departments. So at the moment I need to use my own mail and then setup inbox rules who forward them to the correct emails. Basically I just need a textfield where I can put in emails seperated by commas.
Closed and confirmation messages: I would really like to be able to rich text format these messages. ("Form X is closed. Please fill out form Y[hyperlink] instead" or "form is closed, please email [email protected][hyperlink] for further info")
Predefined reciepients: Adding the entire workflow to importing reciepients emails, names and other background info. Sending out invite emails with unique urls that remembers how far the user progressed, reminder emails to those who has not started or completed the form yet. This would make FormCentral a truely all around information gathering system. We normally use other systems for this kind of large scale information gathering, but I would love to do it all in FormCentral
    And finally
Excel report: I would like to be able to use 24hour format for "time submitted" column.
    Best regards
    Anders

    Anders,
We just added support for locale specific date, time, number and currency formats. Go to the Options tab and select Locale Formatting. You'll see all of the options there. If something is still missing please tell us and we can try to add in a future release. We are still working on providing localizations for the application and form user interface.
    Thanks,
    Randy

  • Dynamic input form in ADF

    Hi,
i need to create an input form in ADF, which contains radio groups ,check boxes ,LOV's and text boxes as form fields.
these form fields i need to configure in DB specifying the type of the UI component(LOV,Text fields or Radio or check box)
by reading the type, UI component has to be rendered and validations should be fired dynamically.
    is it possible in ADF?
    Thanks
    Indu

ADF Faces offers a library of dynamic components that includes dynamic form and
dynamic table widgets that you can drop from the Data Controls panel. Dynamic
components differ from standard components in that all the binding metadata is
created at runtime. This dynamic building of the bindings allows you set display
information using control hints on a view object instead of configuring the information
in the Edit Form Fields dialog as you drop the control onto the page. Then if you want
to change how the data displays, you need only change it on the view object, and all
dynamic components bound to that view object will change their display accordingly.
With standard components, if you want to change any display attributes (such as the
order or grouping of the attributes) you would need to change each page on which the
    data is displayed.

  • Spry, XML & IE7 - Need Help

I recently upgraded to DW CS3 and to Spry 1.6, and am looking
forward to using Spry to work with XML. My main development centers
around Sidebar Gadgets, comprised of files living locally on a
    user's computer.
After piecing together a simple XML file and an HTML page
with a Spry Table widget, I discovered that while I could upload
these files to my webserver and have them work correctly, locally
on my own machine the HTML file causes an ActiveX security message
and won't load the XML content until I OK the message.
Unfortunately, this means that a Sidebar Gadget with the same Spry
code doesn't work because the Sidebar platform is built on top of
    IE7 technology.
Is there something within Spry that will allow XML to be
loaded locally without the ActiveX security message? (Asking users
to change their security settings just for this gadget isn't an
option since it is not a very user friendly solution)
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for pointing out the MotW Command in DW. I was playing
around with it a bit last night, but the command makes typing it on
    various pages much easier!
I did, however, run into a problem in trying to use MotW. Out
of about 10 or so test pages I was playing with last night, the
first two that I inserted MotW on worked fine. The XML data
appeared in its table as intended without any security message. The
following 8 test pages I attempted to use MotW did not work. When I
opened the page, no security message appeared, but no data appears
on the page either - the page is simply blank.
If anyone is willing to have a gander at this, I have
uploaded the files to my website. (
    http://www.brucebracken.com/test).
As you can see, the file works fine on my website, but when the
files are downloaded to my desktop and run from my desktop, I get
    the blank page.
    HTML file:
    http://www.brucebracken.com/test/index.html
    XML file:
    http://www.brucebracken.com/test/index.html
Spry JS files: Version 1.6 in the default Spry dir
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is Oracle committed to JavaFX?!?!

I REALLY want FX to succeed ... I am betting my company's first product on it. However, I am beginning to question if Oracle is really interested in it. When I search on the web, many of the links are broken. Much of the available documentation is inaccurate or out of date (refers to an older version). The Wiki (wikis.sun) is so slow that I timeout before the page ever shows up. The widget set is lacking. I am constantly finding bugs, and when I tried to sign up to be able to post bugs at JIRA I discovered that the 'Affects/Version' field only goes up to 1.2.1 ... we are at 1.3 now. Is that even the right site anymore?
So - I need to know if Oracle is really serious about this. I am investing my entire life savings in my start-up company and I intended to go straight-Sun with the implementation (MySql, Glassfish, JavaFX) ... did I make a mistake? Do I switch horses or stay the course?
Thanks ... this is a serious inquiry so please only serious responses.

I'm trying to make the opposite decision right now. I had been planning to use Flex for the UI of my first project and now I'm considering a switch to JavaFX. The grass is always greener I suppose :-)
Things like a lack of widgets don't bother me too much. Take the lack of a table / data grid widget as an example. Judging by the ListCell implementation in 1.3 ([http://fxexperience.com/2010/04/new-to-javafx-1-3-cells/]) the table widget that ends up in JavaFX is most likely going to be easy to use, flexible and efficient. It's a component that I think is very important and I don't mind (patiently) waiting for a robust implementation.
As far as documentation, I think most of the new(ish) RIA technologies have a similar problem. I had the same issue with Flex. It annoys me a bit. Really, if you're posting an example on the internet how hard is it to preface it with a little version information? I was quite happy to see the tutorials section of javafx.com including version numbers. It (javafx.com tutorials) could evolve into an extremely valuable resource for developers.
Some of the other non-technical things really frustrate me though.
Licensing is at the top of my list of annoyances. There's no way I can develop a serious application without being allowed to redistribute the JavaFX runtime. What happens when Oracle pushes out version 1.4 of the runtime? It's the equivalent of randomly upgrading a third party library my application depends on without doing any testing. It's the major issue that's keeping me from switching to JavaFX right now. The thing that scares me is that, from my perspective, it should be a matter of when we'll be allowed to redistribute the runtime, not a matter of if we'll be allowed to.
I have a tendency to conjure up worst case scenarios, so, in my mind, there's someone within Oracle involved with the licensing that's holding things up because they think they need to have total control over the platform. I honestly have no idea how things work at a company as big as Oracle though. I simply can't understand why there's never been any decent feedback about whether or not we'll eventually be able to redistribute the runtime.
No matter how good the technology gets (in my opinion it's already very good) restrictive licensing is going to stifle adoption.
Second on my list is of annoyances is an apparent lack of interest in things that could improve adoption of JavaFX. Take Maven support as an example. The JIRA says there was a working implementation nearly 4 months ago ([http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/JFXC-3041]), but nothing ever happened with it. What the hell? To date I've seen four different Maven implementations; m2-javafxc, jfrog, fest and the one in the JIRA issue I linked.
That's four developers with the ability and ambition to create Maven plugins for JavaFX. By the looks of it the one in the JIRA issue I linked could have become the official implementation and everyone interested in Maven support could have started consolidating their efforts. The guy even offered to try to get it hosted in a repository that syncs to Maven central. If Oracle is committing so much to JavaFX, why does something that can add value to the platform and is already implemented get ignored?
My last major complaint is about deployment. Even though it's improving, I'm still not impressed. There are too many points of failure:
    1) dl.javafx.com not accessible
    2) .jnlp file missing
    3) code signing problems
    4) missing .jar files
I know some of those are unavoidable and are the responsibility of the developer / deployer. The thing that annoys me is the lack of decent error handling in the applet. Who thought a *3 minute* timeout was reasonable for getting a .jnlp file? I made a nerd rage post with some applet complaints a few weeks ago, so I won't re-iterate it here.
As a minor API complaint I don't care for the navigation. I hate clicking on a package on the left, getting scrolled back up to the top of the page and having to scroll back down to select a class.
Back to the original question, there's been a few occasions where Oracle's confirmed their commitment to JavaFX. I actually have my own little theory they bought Sun because getting a Java solution on the client side (desktop, mobile, etc) is so important for them that they couldn't leave it up to chance. Keep in mind, that's 100% speculation on my part.
Since I'm worried about the same issues as you, I've always developed with the assumption that I may want to switch UI technologies at some point. I've put more emphasis on the server side than I have on the client side (UI) up until now. I make an effort to implement as much logic as possible on the server and keep the communication / data transfer platform neutral (ie: JSON or XML via HTTP).
Another thing that's impossible to ignore is Java. If I can't do something I want in (for example) Flex, there aren't many options. With JavaFX I at least have the option of implementing something in plain old Java (ie: Swing) if I really get stuck. It's something that's tough to ignore if you've got a good handle on Java.
I also have the attitude that as long as I can create version 1.0 of my software and start making money using an existing platform (JavaFX or Flex), that's all I need for now. I switched from Swing to Flex about eight months. In hindsight I feel like I may have been better off staying the course with Swing and getting a product out the door. Flex hasn't increased my productivity enough to make up for the time I spent learning it, integrating it into my development process, etc.
Think of it this way... if you're proficient in Java and JavaFX, how many bugs can you work around and how many custom widgets can you create in the time it would take you to become equally proficient with a competing technology?
Part of the reason I'm thinking of switching to JavaFX is because I think it's eventually going to hit a point where it goes from being the underdog in the RIA space to being the best technology in the RIA space. The JavaFX developers have done lots of things very well that don't get much attention. For example, coalesced layouts and lazy binding. Up until now there seems to have been a lot of emphasis on creating a solid foundation. IMO that's a good thing and will eventually pay off.
I'm curious, what would you build your UI with if you decided to ditch JavaFX?
