TableChanged() problem..

Hi everyone,
I am trying to detect changes to cell data in my JTable. But for some reason, I have implemented the tableChanged() listener and it detects changes in table structure (when columns are added), but when a rows data is simply edited, it does not notify the listener.
My implementation is as follows:
       this.myModel.addTableModelListener(
            new TableModelListener () {
                public void tableChanged(javax.swing.event.TableModelEvent evt) {
                    handleTableChanged(evt);
        myTable.setModel(myModel);

Try with valuechanged() event.

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR JTABLE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    firstly i made a jtable to adds and deletes rows and passes the the data to the table model from some textfields. then i wanted to add a tablemoselistener method in order to change the value in the columns 1,2,3,4 and set the result of them in the column 5. when i added that portion of code the buttons that added and deleted rows had problems to function correctly..they dont work at all..can somebody have a look in my code and see wot is wrong..thanx in advance..
    below follows the code..sorry for the mesh of the code..you can use and run the code and notice the problem when you press the add button..also if you want delete the TableChanged method to see that the add button works perfect.

    There are too many mistakes in your program. It looks like you are new to java.
    Your add and delete row buttons are not working because you haven't registered your action listener with these buttons.
    I have modifide your code and now it works fine. Just put some validation code for the textboxes becuase it throws exception when user presses add button without entering anything.
    Here is the updated code: Do the diff and u will know my changes

    Sorry, just figured out my silly error, the method is tableChanged not TableChanged.

    Hi ,
    Ive a problem with no solution to me .......
    Ive seen in the forum and Ivent found an answer.......
    The problem is this:
    Ive a JTable with a custom model and I use a custom multiline cell renderer.
    (becuse in the real application "way" hasnt static lenght)
    When I add the first row all seem to be ok.....
    when I try to add more row I obtain :

  • Problem with fireTableDataChanged in JTable

    Hi everybody,
    i have a really frustrating problem with Jtable. I created a class to display the jtable and a class that extends AbstactTableModel to use as its model. I can update my table after a fireTableDataChanged method in the class that extend the AbstractTableModel, but after implementing a ListSelectionListener to the class that displays the jtable, it gives a big bunch of errors in the console of my ide, when i remove it, it went back to normal without any errors.
    Anyways, my program still can run without problem and the table still can refresh, just this bunch of errors when i clicked the button that calls the AbstactTableModel to perform a firetabledatachanged
    anybody got this problem? how did you guys solve it?

    just this bunch of errors when i clicked the button that calls the AbstactTableModel to perform a firetabledatachangedWell, you should never have a button that invokes fireTableDataChanged.
    The TableModel should be responsible for invoking those methods.
    I suggest you look at the code for the DefaultTableModel for the proper way to write a TableModel. Basically you create methods to update the model. The model in turn fires the events to notify the view to repaint itself.

  • JTable displays string in wrong order : my code problem or Java problem ?

    I have the following code that displays data in a JTable, most of the time it works fine, but I've realized when I have a cell with values like : "Snowboarding"+"[123456789]"
    It would display it as : [Snowboarding[123456789
    For a string like : "Chasing toddlers"+"<123456789>"
    It would display it as : <Chasing toddlers<123456789
    It not only moved the last bracket to the front, but also changed its direction from "]" to "[" and from ">" to "<"
    Is there anything wrong with my code ? Or is this a Java problem ?

    * TableSorter is a decorator for TableModels; adding sorting functionality to a supplied TableModel. TableSorter does not store
    * or copy the data in its TableModel; instead it maintains a map from the row indexes of the view to the row indexes of the
    * model. As requests are made of the sorter (like getValueAt(row, col)) they are passed to the underlying model after the row numbers
    * have been translated via the internal mapping array. This way, the TableSorter appears to hold another copy of the table
    * with the rows in a different order.
    * <p/>
    * TableSorter registers itself as a listener to the underlying model, just as the JTable itself would. Events recieved from the model
    * are examined, sometimes manipulated (typically widened), and then passed on to the TableSorter's listeners (typically the JTable).
    * If a change to the model has invalidated the order of TableSorter's rows, a note of this is made and the sorter will resort the
    * rows the next time a value is requested.
    * <p/>
    * When the tableHeader property is set, either by using the setTableHeader() method or the two argument constructor, the table
    * header may be used as a complete UI for TableSorter. The default renderer of the tableHeader is decorated with a renderer
    * that indicates the sorting status of each column. In addition, a mouse listener is installed with the following behavior:
    * <ul>
    * <li>
    * Mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and advances the sorting status of that column through three
    * values: {NOT_SORTED, ASCENDING, DESCENDING} (then back to NOT_SORTED again).
    * <li>
    * SHIFT-mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and cycles the sorting status of the column through the same
    * three values, in the opposite order: {NOT_SORTED, DESCENDING, ASCENDING}.
    * <li>
    * CONTROL-mouse-click and CONTROL-SHIFT-mouse-click: as above except that the changes to the column do not cancel the statuses of columns
    * that are already sorting - giving a way to initiate a compound sort.
    * </ul>
    * <p/>
    * This is a long overdue rewrite of a class of the same name that first appeared in the swing table demos in 1997.

    * <p/>
    * <p/>
    * <ul>
    * <li>
    * Mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and advances the sorting status of that column through three
    * values: {NOT_SORTED, ASCENDING, DESCENDING} (then back to NOT_SORTED again).
    * <li>
    * SHIFT-mouse-click: Clears the sorting status of all other columns and cycles the sorting status of the column through the same
    * three values, in the opposite order: {NOT_SORTED, DESCENDING, ASCENDING}.
    * <li>
    * CONTROL-mouse-click and CONTROL-SHIFT-mouse-click: as above except that the changes to the column do not cancel the statuses of columns
    * that are already sorting - giving a way to initiate a compound sort.
    * </ul>
    * <p/>
    * This is a long overdue rewrite of a class of the same name that first appeared in the swing table demos in 1997.

  • Problem with adding a new row in JTable

    Hi,
    I've created a JTable using DefaultTableModel with DefaultTableModel(Object[][] obj,Object[] col) constructor.I've written actionListener for a JButton which should add new row to the tablemodel.Now, the listener adds the row to the model.But its throwing an ArrayOutofBoundsException and the added row is not visible unless I click on any column of the table.
    Kindly help me to resolve this problem
    TIA
    Regards

  • JTable sorting - problem when adding elements (complete code inside)

    Im writing this email with reference to a recent posting here but this time with the code example. (I apologize for the duplicated posting this time it will be with the code)
    Problem: when adding more elements to the JTable (sorted) the exception: ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException is thrown.
    Example: If the elements in the table are 10 and then the user requests for 8 the table will produce the correct result. However, if the user will ask for 11 items (>10) the exception will be thrown.
    The program: The program below (compiles and running). A JTable is constructed with 3 items, when you click the button - the return result should be 4 items - this will generate the error, WHY?
    I would highly appreciate your thoughts why this is happening and most importantly how to fix it.
    Thanks a lot

    The table listens to the TableModel for changes. Changing the table by adding/removing
    rows or columns has no affect on its table model. If you make changes to the table model
    the table will be notified by its TableModelListener and change its view. So tell
    MyTableModel about the change of data:
    public class TableSorterDemo implements ActionListener
        MyTableModel tableModel;
        public TableSorterDemo()
            defaultListModel = new DefaultListModel();

    }

  • Problem with Table Model Listener

    I hava a JTable with three columns and dynamic number of rows. The first column has a text. Second column has check box and each third column has three radio buttons. I am using the table model listener to fetch the row and column which the user clicked. here is the code
    public void tableChanged(TableModelEvent e)
    row = e.getFirstRow();
    column = e.getColumn();
    TableModel model = (TableModel)e.getSource();
    String columnName = model.getColumnName(column);
    Object value = model.getValueAt(row, column);
    System.err.println("Value: "<em>value.toString()</em>" Row: "<em>row</em>" Column: "+column);
    attendanceModel.setHolidays(row, value.toString());
    }Here is the problem
    {color:#ff0000}Case 1{color}: When I click the first radio button in first row and third column it works and the output of print statement is
    *{color:#993300}Value:0 Row:0 Column:2{color}*
    {color:#ff0000}Case 2{color}: Next I clicked the first radio button in second row and third column the method is not called nothing is printed
    {color:#ff0000}Case 3{color}: Now I clicked the first radio button in third row and thrid column, the method is called and the output of print statement is
    {color:#993300}*Value:0 Row:1 Column:2*{color} ; but the actual value of row should be 2*. Here it is showing the row and column of the previously selected item.
    But in {color:#ff0000}case 2{color} instead of first radio button if I selected the second radio button the print statement will print the correct value i.e
    {color:#993300}*Value:1 Row:1 Column:2*{color}
    ie If I select different radio button in each row the print statement shows the correct value. But if in each row the same radio button is selected its not working properly. For first row it prints properly. If same radio button is selected in second row the method is not called. But from next row onwards the row value is showing the previously selected row as in {color:#ff0000}case 3{color}.
    But for the checkboxes in column 2 the same is working properly. Each column has only one check box. So when I select the check box in each row the row and column values are getting changed accordingly.
    Could some one help please?
    Thanks,
    Zach.

  • JTable and TableModelEvent: tableChanged(TableModelEvent) called twice

    Hi,
    This question has already been posted (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=257&thread=114517) but wasn't answered at that time so i decided to make another attempt.
    How comes that tableChanged(TableModelEvent) is executed twice for each change?
    I've tried to see if the two events could be differenciated by retrieving their properties using the avalaible methods: getType(), getColumn(), getLastRow() etc... but they both come with the same properties values... no easy way to "filter" them in tableChanged() so...
    Is there a way to only have one of them cast for one change?
    Maybe JTable or TableModel methods to override or sthg like this...
    This is a blocking problem for the application we're writting. so, any hint or workaround greatly welcome :)
    This one was short... if u need further informations, just post a request for them as a reply, i'll be glad to add details :)
    regards,
    Silvin

    I actually just solved that very problem with my code, as I was reading your post.
    remove the model.addTableModelListener(...) call from your code. This is implicitly handled by JTable when you specify model as the TableModel for your table. Adding it again causes it to receive the events twice.
    Hope that helps!

    I agree that creating a vector with size 0 isn't very useful. I've changed it, but i'm still getting the same exception.
    I think the problem is in the 'getValueAt' method, although i can't figure out where it is.
    I'm sorry i'm such a pain in the ass but i appriciate a lot your help.

  • Problem in capturing the edited data while the table is sorted

    hi,
    i am using the TableSorter class provided by the sun tutorials to add sorting capability for my JTable. i need to print on the screen, the value of the cell whenever it is updated. so i am using TableModelListener and its tableChanged() method for this purpose. if i edit the data without applying the sorting then its printing fine. But if i edit the data with table sorted in a particular order by clicking on the table header then the tableChanged method is not being called. So some problem lies in the table sorter which is preventing the call to the tableChanged method whenver table it is sorted. Below is my implementation of JTable.
    TableSorter sorter = new TableSorter(new MyTableModel());
    final JTable table = new JTable(sorter);
    table.getModel().addTableModelListener(new
    TableModelListener()
         public void tableChanged(TableModelEvent e)
              int row = e.getFirstRow();
                                               int column = e.getColumn();
              System.out.println("Row: "+row+" Coloumn:  "+column);
    );Hope u understood the problem. plzz help
    thanx

    hi camickr,
    However the row number displayed is always the row of
    the TableModel before the data has been sorted. this is the feature i am trying for and couldnt achieve it. i do want to print the row of tablemodel before data is sorted but i am getting 0 and -1 as row and column numbers.
    I never saw -1 as a column number.
    if you have never seen -1 as column number then just compile and run the code given below. I just added a table model listener to the table model to capture data editing. So if u edit any cell without applying sorting then its row and column number is printed properly but if u sort a particlar column and with sorting on if u edit any cell you will get row No. as 0 and column No. as -1. try running below code and please let me know where the problem exists or post your code which worked without any of the above problems.
    I believe the code was updated in Feb of this year,
    so make sure you have the most recent version.yes i have the latest version of tablesorter.

  • JTable 's tableChanged() works differently in jdk1.2.2 and jdk1.3

    While updating the contents of the jtable I am using the following
    table.tableChanged(new TableModelEvent(model));
    table.repaint();
    In jdk1.2.2, this updates the contents and repaints the table without clearing the row selection
    But the same in jdk1.3 updates and repaints the table but clears the row selection.
    How can I overcome with problem.
    I also tried model.fireTableStructurChanged();
    along with this but it works in jdk1.2.2 and not in jdk1.3.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    They have fixed a bug. If you are replacing the whole table, then the row selection for the old table doesn't mean anything for the new table. In fact, that row might not even exist any more.

  • Jtable problem in changing the row selected

    hi,
    I am displaying the oracle database information in JTable...user can make changes to a row...once he presses either ENTER,UP OR DOWN ARROW...the changes should be updated into the database...if there is some SQL exception,i am displaying JOptionPane to show the exception message ...i need to keep the selected row to be the one with errors...
    my problems are:
    i have written a function to update the change to the database...
    when should i call that...right now i am calling that in tableChanged method... is there any method to dissable the predefined keys and actions? becaz once user makes changes to a row and presses some key like up/down or enter,the control is getting transfered to the next row...
    plz give me the solution...
    here is part of my code....
    I am adding data later....
         model= new DefaultTableModel((Vector)null,columnNames);
         table = new JTable(model)
         public void tableChanged(TableModelEvent e)
              int firstRow = e.getFirstRow();
         if (e.getType()==TableModelEvent.UPDATE &&(firstRow!=TableModelEvent.HEADER_ROW))
              updateChangesToDatabase(row);
    /********in my update method i am setting the focus to the same row
    if i get exception....like this....
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (thisPanel,sb,"Error in UPDATING...",JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
    table.requestFocusInWindow();
    table.setRowSelectionInterval(currentRow,currentRow);
         super.tableChanged(e);
              setUpTableData(); // method to add data...to table..
              table.setDragEnabled(false);
              table.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_SELECTION);
              JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(table,JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED,JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED);
              add(scrollPane,BorderLayout.CENTER);
    // this i am doing to reset keyboard action but not working....
              table.resetKeyboardActions();

    ye rammohan,
    you can change the data-element of the field or char of the data-element.
    if you try to change the name of the field, it deletes.
    so what you can do is, keep the field unchanged, add another field of your choice, using ABAP program, move the data from old field to new field, and then you can delete your old field.
    thx

  • TableModelListener Problem

    Hi, My application has a JTree and a PropertyInspector which has a JTable.
    When a user selects any node in JTree, I refresh the PropertyInspector and displays the property of the selected node. Now I have a problem in TableModelListener.
    For example, I select a node, it has 5 properties, so my Table display 5 properties, I edit the 1st one, and selects the second row to edit, It works fine. TableModelListener called and works perfectly.
    But when I edit the 1st property and choose another Tree Node, then TableModelListener returns the getFirstRow to -1 and my programs fails there.
    My code is as follows:
       class TableListener

          int lastRow = e.getLastRow();
