Taking database dumps automatically

hi gems...good afternoon..
i have three schemas. suppose the credentials aof the schemas are...
1. schema1/pass1@sid
2. schema2/pass2@sid
3. schema3/pass3@sid
now i take the dumps of those manually daily in my d drive by the following command from command prompt...
exp schema1/pass1@sid file=schema1_today'sdate.dmp log=schema1_today'sdate.log
exp schema2/pass2@sid file=schema2_today'sdate.dmp log=schema1_today'sdate.log
exp schema3/pass3@sid file=schema3_today'sdate.dmp log=schema1_today'sdate.log
now i want to make this task automated...means i will be out of station for several days, so i want in my absence the backup dumps should be taken automatically daily at 7pm.
is there any process to make a batch file by which i can achieve my goal???
please help...

thanks for your reply...
i used to take the dumps from my windows machine...the server is a linux machine...but that doesnot make any difficulty because they are LAN connected...
how can I take the dumps using scheduled tasks...please help me...

    damorgan,
He is running 8.1.7.0. "DataGuard" scripts were initially available for 9i and then
backported (and available as a seperate download) for 8i. Many 8i implementations
did not and do not use DataGuard.
Even if it is "Jurassic" {which it certainly is NOT}, they obviously do have a good
reason for setting up a standby -- they DO have data of value. So, maybe they have
not upgraded to 9i or 10g. There could be a dozen reasons
    1. Server HW/OS doesn't support 9i/10g, not budgetting for Server upgrade
    2. Application using Forms 2.x or 4.5 and not tested on 9i / 10g (4.5 not certified
    on 9i)
    3. Low end client PCs working perfectly with Character-mode forms, not powerful
enought to run Jinitiator and Forms 6i / 9i
Just because someone hasn't upgraded to 10g doesn't mean that they are at fault
when you do NOT know the reason why they have not upgraded.
Surely, they do know that 8i is desupported. Don't you think that their management
has undertaken due diligence / cost-benefit analysis in considering whether they
    should upgrade to 10g ?
Maybe they have another project implementing 10g in parallel and will be able
to shutdown this environment soon. Maybe they don't need to do so.
Do understand that people are intelligent enough to make their own decisions
considering their particular circumstances and don't go shooting off with your
assumption that anyone not running 10g is a dinosaur.

  • Import  a database dump

    Hi all,
I have tow database in my oracle server 10g , mydb1 and mudb2 , and have tow database dumps ,mydb1.dmp and mydb2.dmp. I learned from other forums that to be able to import the dump file i need that the specific database should be started and up . My question is how to start one database mydb1 and in the same time the other database mydb2 is down because by default they are started at the same time .
    BR

    Hi,
Wat is the OS Are you using?
I am just guessing it should be windows, Whenever windows startup there is a registry entry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\oracle_home_name.
    There will be a key
ORA_SID_AUTOSTART. SID is your database SID.
If it is set to true, the databases will start autoamtically, you can change it to false if you dont need it.
Or if you navigate to the services.msc you can find the ORACLESERVICESID where you have two types of start parameters 1) Automatic (whenver windows starts it will automatically start the db)
    2) Manual (You can start the DB whenever you need it)
To start database connect to the sql prompt and issue STARTUP to shutdown the db issue SHUTDOWN ON sql prompt.

  • Where we can know about the stuck threads without taking thread dump.

    Hi Everyone,
Where we can View/know about the stuck threads without taking thread dump.
    Thank You

    Hi!
WebLogic Server diagnoses a thread as stuck if it is continually working (not idle) for a set period of time. You can tune stuck threads in the Weblogic Server.
You can tune a server’s thread detection behavior by changing the length of time before a thread is diagnosed as stuck, and by changing the frequency with which the server checks for stuck threads.
It can be configured using below mentioned 2 parameters. These can be configured from Admin console -> Servers ->Configuration > Tuning tab.
    1)Stuck Thread Max Time
    2)Stuck Thread Timer Interval
Although you can change the criteria WebLogic Server uses to determine whether a thread is stuck, you cannot change the default behavior of setting the “warning” and “critical” health states when all threads in a particular execute queue become stuck.
There is a parameter "Stuck Thread Count" which can be configured from Console
(Servers -> Configuration ->Overload -> Stuck Thread count) which helps to transition the Server to FAILED state once the stuck threads reaches the value.
You can also use "OverloadProtectionMBean" for tuning. In Weblogic Server 9.x and later, it is recommended that you use the "ServerFailureTriggerMBean" in the "OverloadProtectionMBean".The ServerFailureTriggerMBean transitions the server to a FAILED state after the specified number of stuck threads are detected. The OverloadProtectionMBean has options to suspend or shutdown a failed server.
WebLogic Server checks for stuck threads periodically. If all application threads are stuck, a server instance marks itself failed, if configured to do so, exits. You can configure Node Manager or a third-party high-availability solution to restart the server instance for automatic failure recovery.
You can configure these actions to occur when not all threads are stuck, but the number of stuck threads have exceeded a configured threshold:
    - Shut down the Work Manager if it has stuck threads. A Work Manager that is shut down will refuse new work and reject existing work in the queue by sending a rejection message. In a cluster, clustered clients will fail over to another cluster member.
    - Shut down the application if there are stuck threads in the application. The application is shutdown by bringing it into ADMIN mode. All Work Managers belonging to the application are shut down, and behave as described above.
    - Mark the server instance as failed and shut it down it down if there are stuck threads in the server. In a cluster, clustered clients that are connected or attempting to connect will fail over to another cluster member.
You can configure the "ServerFailureTriggerMBean" in the "OverloadProtectionMBean".
Below is documentation link for "ServerFailureTriggerMBean" methods.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/apirefs.1111/e13945/weblogic/management/configuration/ServerFailureTriggerMBean.html
You can use getStuckThreadCount() method to check the number of stuck threads and transition the server to Failed State once itreaches the limit.
    getStuckThreadCount:
int getStuckThreadCount() - The number of stuck threads after which the server is transitioned into FAILED state. There are options inOverloadProtectionMBean to suspend and shutdown a FAILED server. By default, the server continues to run in FAILED state. If the StuckThreadCount value is set to zero then the server never transitions into FAILED server irrespective of the number of stuck threads.
    Returns:
    The StuckThreadCount value
    Default Value:
    0
    Maximum Value:
    java.lang.Integer.MAX_VALUE
    Minimum Value:
    0
Below is documentation link for "OverloadProtectionMBean" methods.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/javadocs_mhome/weblogic/management/configuration/OverloadProtectionMBean.html
In the Admin console, you can set the "FailureAction" under Servers->Configuration->Overload to force shutdown the managed server once the server is in Failed state.
The OverloadProtectionMBean has a method getFailureAction to achieve the same.
    getFailureAction:
String getFailureAction() - Enable automatic forceshutdown of the server on failed state. The server self-health monitoring detects fatal failures and mark the server as failed. The server can be restarted using NodeManager or a HA agent.
    Valid Values:
    OverloadProtectionMBean.NO_ACTION, OverloadProtectionMBean.FORCE_SHUTDOWN, OverloadProtectionMBean.ADMIN_STATE
If you start the managed servers using node manager, you can enable "Auto Kill if Failed" and "Auto Restart" in the Admin console, under Servers-> configuration->Health Monitoring. Node Manager will take care of restarting the managed server if you enable "Auto Restart".
You can also configure the "Stuck Thread Count" and "Failure Action" to "Force Immediate shutdown of the Server" from Admin console under servers-> configuration-> Overload. This will help you to shutdown the server when the stuck thread count is reached. But there is no way to release the threads once they are stuck from the configuration.
Suppose if you set the value of the Stuck Thread Count to 20, The server will be transitioned to failed state once the count reaches 20 and if you enable the Failure Action, the server self-health monitoring detects fatal failures and mark the server as failed.
Depending on how you are starting the servers (custom scripts or Node Manager or startup scripts,...), you can restart the servers.
For more details on this please refer to below link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/entarch/workload-management-088692.html
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Restoration of Database Dump

We are using Oracle 8.1.7 on Alpha ES 40 server running on Tru 64 Unix environment. When we are trying to restore a database dump , certain tables originally having not null coumns, are getting restored with "NULL" columns. Could you please help in explaining why this would happen.

    Hi Binny,
the short and important part is: Yes, you did everything correctly and you data is safe.
The thing is, that "_1" is added by Management Studio automatically. I find this very annoying myself - at least it helps me identifying servers, where the Administrators do not check their restore-code :-)
The underlying deeper meaning of this phenomenon (bug?) has not revealed itself to be yet.
But if someone has a good explanaition, I'd be happy to hear as well :)
    Hope that helps, though

  • Permission to files available in Oracle database dump location

    Hello,
Could someone make me to understand how the trace files available in trace location of 11g database(dump location in 10g or below)are having permission 640 in some databases and 660(UNIX flavored systems) . As these are the files getting created by default with database operation, what is the parameter responsible for it?

just wanted to add this for reference.. and here we can see some are getting created with 640 and some are with 660 with same umask value.

  • How to determine who performed the last full database dump before cumulative dump

    Hello,
ASE 15.7 SP100 allows cumulative backups, and if cumulative dump is tried before a full dump, ASE shows this error:
You cannot execute an incremental dump before a full database dump.
From my experiments, it seems that it does not matter how the full dump is performed (by native isql, or by a 3rd party API). As long as a full dump is done on a database, ASE seems to be keeping track of all the changed pages since the last full dump. So this means that you can perform a full dump using a 3rd party API, and then on isql, if you run a cumulative dump command, the cumulative dump succeeds, which is based on the last full dump by another library!
So, my question is: is there any way to programmatically determine how (by native isql or 3rd party) the last full backup was performed? I believe $SYBASE_HOME/ASE-15_0/dumphist contains this info, but it requires 'enable dump history' to be set first, and I am looking for a solution which does not involve checking a disk file.
    Thanks,
    Ali

    Dear Mr Razib,
I have not explored the feature but ASE autiding might provide you the possibility to access information on past database dumps via SQL.
Apart from that - I am not aware of an SQL interface to the dumphist file (would be nice to have, I agree)
Enabling dump history is definitley highly recommended  (in my opinion) .
There is yet another feature which might help you to prevent an DBA from dumping databases and transactions to various locations.
When you create a DUMP CONFIGURATION and additionally set parameter
            enforce dump configuration
ASE will prevent normal (free style) DUMP commands but enforce the use of an existing dump configuration. The mechanism is not fool proof (nothing prevents from creating yet another dump configuration on the fly) - but at least something.
    With kind regards

  • Export/Import full database dump fails to recreate the workspaces

    Hi,
We are studying the possibility of using Oracle Workspace to maintain multiple versions of our business data. I recently did some tests with the import/export of a dump that contains multiple workspaces. I'm not able to import the dump successfully because it doesn't recreate the workspaces on the target database instance, which is an empty Oracle database freshly created. Before to launch the import with the Oracle Data Pump utility, I have the "LIVE" workspace that exists in the WMSYS.WM$WORKSPACES_TABLE table. After the import is done, there is nothing in that table...
The versions of the Oracle database and Oracle Workspace Manager are the same on source and target database:
Database version (from the V$VERSION view):
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE     10.2.0.4.0     Production
TNS for 64-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
Workspace Manager version (from the WM_INSTALLATION view):
    OWM_VERSION: 10.2.0.4.3
In order to recreate the tablespaces successfully during the full import of the dump, the directory structure for the tablespaces is the same on the target database's computer. I used the instructions given in this document, section "1.6 Import and Export Considerations" at page 1-19:
    http://www.wyswert.com/documentation/oracle/database/11.2/appdev.112/e11826.pdf
Considering that the release of Oracle database used is version 10.2.0.4, I use the following command to import the dump since it doesn't contain the WMSYS schema:
    impdp system/<password>@<database> DIRECTORY=data_pump_dir DUMPFILE=expfull.dmp FULL=y TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=append LOGFILE=impfull.log
The only hints I have in the import log file are the following block of lines:
    1st one:

By the way, the computer of the source database is Vista 64 in english and the destination computer is Vista 64 in french, do you think this has anything to do with these error messages? The parameters of the NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS view are the same in the source and target database...

I tried to import the full database dump with the "imp" command and I had the same error message with more detail:
. Import d'objets SYSTEM dans SYSTEM
IMP-00017: Echec de l'instruction suivante avec erreur ORACLE 1843 :
    "BEGIN "
    "if (system.wm$_check_install) then"
    " return ;"
    " end if ;"
" begin execute immediate 'insert into wmsys.wm$workspaces_ta"
    "ble"
    " values(''LIVE'',"
    " ''194'',"
    " ''-1'',"
    " ''SYS'',"
    " *to_date(''09-DEC-2009 00:00:00'', ''DD-MON-YYYY HH"*
    *"24:MI:SS''),"*
    " ''0'',"
    " ''UNLOCKED'',"
    " ''0'',"
    " ''0'',"
    " ''37'',"
    " ''CRS_ALLNONCR'',"

    "24:MI:SS''),"

    "COMMIT; END;"
    IMP-00003: Erreur ORACLE 1843 rencontrée
ORA-01843: ce n'est pas un mois valide
    ORA-06512: à ligne 5
The call to the TO_DATE function with the string of the date format is incompatible with the format and language set in the NLS parameters of my database. Since I know that the "imp" and "exp" commands work client side (unlike "impdp" and "expdp"), I did a full export of the source database from the computer on which I try to import the dump to have the same language exported in the dump and I was able to import the dump successfully.
But, I would like to use the Data Pump tool instead of the old import and export tools. How would it be possible to set the NLS parameters that "impdp" must use before to launch the import of the dump?
The NLS parameters are set to the "AMERICAN" settings in both source and destination database when I validate that with the "NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS" view. The dump I did with "expdp" on the source database exported the data with the "AMERICAN" settings as well...
On the destination database, the computer language is in french and I guess it is considered by the Data Pump import tool since it outputs the log in the language of the computer and it tries to do a TO_DATE with the wrong date format because it works with the "CANADIAN FRENCH" settings...
Any suggestions? I'll continue to read on my side and re-post if I find the solution.
    Thanks!

  • From a complete database dump, I need to import 8 schemas

I have a complete database dump made with datapump on oracle 10g on Linux.
I need to import only 8 schemas.
In my parfile I have to use the INCLUDE option?
How can I tell oracle to import only these 4 schemas?

    Hi,
What is the version you are using.. ??
In my parfile I have to use the INCLUDE option?
As per yu requirment it might not fit, I suppose
The INCLUDE and EXCLUDE parameters can be used to limit the export/import to specific objects.
Second thing is that when you use INCLUDE parameter only those objects specified by it will be included and EXCLUDE will make sure that all objects except those specified by it will be included in the export.
How can I tell oracle to import only these 4 schemas?
Better I suggest that import the full dB in to some test DB, then do an schema level export with respective your requirement.
As, sybrand had pointed the correct point of SCHEMAS, which I missed out..

  • ALTER DATABASE  RECOVER AUTOMATIC

    Hi,
    in 10 gR2 when applying :
    ALTER DATABASE
RECOVER AUTOMATIC UNTIL TIME '2001-10-27:14:00:00';what should be the state of Database ? Nomount ? Mount ? Open ?
    Thank you.

"RECOVER DATABASE" (or "ALTER DATABASE RECOVER") is in MOUNT state
"RECOVER TABLESPACE" or "RECOVER DATAFILE" can be in OPEN state (except when Tablespace/Datafile is SYSTEM , in which case the database must be MOUNT)

  • Getting the database dump based on constants

    Hi,
I am having a ploblem in my project. The ploblem is i have to get the database dump based on diffrent constants that is if i have taken the dump yesterday and after that some modefaction has bean done tin the database now i want to take the database dump only for the modifyed data but not for the whole data. How can i get the database dump in this manner

Unfortunately, this is not a feature of the Oracle Migration Workbench. It has been designed as a one shot recovery vehicle for the 3rd party database. I understand why you want to do this and it is on our list of enhancements.
    I'm sorry for the inconvenience

But question is what is purpose to provide an interface to do that and if you got number of users pressing one button you will be having a serious sitaution on your hand.
