Target Flash Movieclip from HTML Link - Feasible?
Is it possible to target a specific movieclip within an swf
that's embedded on an external html page using an HTML link? Or is
this a stretch? It seems like this would be feasible but I've hit a
wall on this one.
No. Google search for FLV grabbers.

Send variable to Flash from HTML link
Does anyone know if it's possible to include a variable in an
html link <a> tag that can set a variable in Flash. I have
used JavaScript to do this in the past but would prefer not to on
this site. I also would prefer not have to use a server side script
or xml, as all I want to do is set multiple links on one html page
to open the same Flash movie on another html page, but make it go
to a particular frame or load a particular external swf based on
the link that was clicked. Thanks, JDYou need to use them in the object and embed tags.

forgive my ignorance, i am new to all this...
i have made a flash movie that i want to be able to link to
from an external html file. i managed to get this to work by using
flash anchors - not as hard as i would have thought, hurrah! but
when i use the links, while it jumps to the correct spot in my
movie, the rest of the buttons in my flash movie stop working so i
can't navigate within it any longer.
i don't understand why this happens because the movie works
fine when i don't access it via the html links..
help!!!Thanks for response.
Yea you all are right I have the stand alone version. Looking through the different versions link -> http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/en_US/DisplayCategoryProductListPage&CategoryID=55985400
What version would I need to enable flash compiling. At this point I can live with PPT compiling, but would like to know how much I would need to spend if I need the option.
Thanks,

Flash nav inserting html links into div -example-
I have made a flash navigation bar and I want it to link to
the pages on the same page:
http://www.cbsanswer.com/framecomeon.htm
Of course I understand frames are outdated. I have read
through CCS and read about SSI, but I cannot find how to open
content into a Div. You can see what my objective is when you visit
the website above.
Two problems:
1.) What is the codeing for linking a flash button to a
corresponding div or frame? (I tried programing the MANUFACTURING
link to open in the _Parent frame and than tried the name of the
frame "mainFrame".)
2.) Can I make sure that the entire navigation is viewable? I
had to put this stupid scroll bar in.
I appreciate any advice as I have already checked out every
book on the subject and spent two days searching the internet.

Modify flash movie from HTML form
so here is what I have:
I have a flash movie and as the flash movie plays there are
elements that say things like, "Your company name here" or "Your
title here", or "Your Product Picture here" etc.
From an HTML form (I can do all this part) I would want
someone to be able to specify their customized information and
SOMEHOW that would end up in the Flash movie. I would like to know
whether I need special software to create these. I ultimately need
have the final product be a .swf with the form-entered information
like Company Name, etc.
I don't know what I need in order to do this. I'm basically
info-gathering. Ask any questions if I am leaving anything out that
might help you help me identify what we need.
Thanks in advance.no. none from me. i honestly dont have the first clue

Here is the code that I entered it gets errors when I check

this the most effective way of incorporating Flash objects? If
someone could assist me I would appreciate it....below is the

I want to be able to click and HTML Link such as:
<a href="gotoFrame" target="flashID">TEXT</a>
And have the Flash read that you clicked the link and then go to the specified place depnending on the HREF.
Basically, I just need to know how to get Flash to read that you clicked the HTML Link.Your HTML link can call a JavaScript function that calls a function in Flash. Read up ExternalInterface class.

Flash hijacking HTML links while images are loading
I've designed a slide show player using Flash and Actionscript 3.0 which loads several external images. While the images are loading, the HTML links on my page (outside of the Flash movie) don't work. As soon as all the images are loaded, the links start working again. It seems like the Flash player is hijacking the browser while the images are loading which can take the better part of a minute depending on my connection speed. I can click an HTML link once during the loading time and as soon as the images have loaded, the browser loads the new page (the one the HTML links to). Once all the images are in my Temporary Internet Files folder, this problem ceases to exist (since the images no longer need to be downloaded). It's only first-time viewers that will have this problem, but it's a pretty major problem.
To see what I'm talking about, go to:
http://www.ericlindberg.com/indexTemp.html
Click the Images button after the "Loading..." animation disappears but before all the images are loaded. As the images load the thumbnails at the bottom of the Flash player go from 50% to 100% opaque. If you click the "Images" button before all the thumbnails are 100% opaque, nothing happens. However, once they are all loaded and the thumbnails are all 100% opaque, the "Images" page loads. You can do the same thing with any of the subpages in the Images section of the site and get the same results.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
JoeI have something similar on my site.

You might try using CSS rollovers instead of MM (javascript) rollovers. Straight HTML links load fast and work immediately.

Linking to a specific frame from html?
Hello all:
Does anyone know if it is possible to have an html page that
links to a swf file, but ALSO goes to a specific frame or label
within that file? I'm trying to avoid having to start the Flash
file from the very beginning, but I can't say that I've ever seen
this done.
Thanks,
WayneThe simplest way:
in the HTML you expand the two occurences of "movie.swf" (in
the object and embed tag) to "movie.swf?jump=50", where "jump" is
the variable name and "50" is the frame somewhere in the middle of
your movie.swf that you want to start with.
In the first frame of movie.swf you have actionscript
if(this._framesloaded<jump) {
this.gotoAndPlay(1)}
else {
this.gotoAndPlay(jump)}
Of course, this doesn't check for error conditions and has
other weaknesses, but I hope you get the point.
Good luck

Linking between Flash, pdf and html
How to link from Flash to certain page in pdf document
displaying in web browser?
this is not working:
on (release) {
getURL("interfaces.pdf#example", "_self");
neither: #nameddest=example, #page=2
This works though from html, but only first time. If you surf
beck and then go to the same link it doesnt navigate to that page!
Any idea very appreciated!
ThanxHi Raymond,
To respond to your question:
Would I have to create two regions with each region the same chart one in Flash and one in HTML and Hide/Show the region depending on the platform I am running eg iPAD or Desktop?
No, this isn't necessary at all. One chart region with a "Chart Rendering" setting of "Flash Chart" on the Chart Attributes page will do the trick. With APEX 4.2, we introduced HTML5 chart support using AnyChart, our existing supplier of Flash charts in APEX. One of the great features of their new HTML5 charting support is how they handle the rendering of a chart. If you take a look at AnyChart's documentation on the rendering options available as part of their HTML5 support, http://www.anychart.com/products/anychart/docs/users-guide/migration-guide.html#from-5.1.x-to-6.x-rendering-types, there are 4 possible rendering options available. We declaratively support two of those options in APEX:
AnyChart Rendering Option Associated APEX "Chart Rendering" setting
FLASH_PREFERRED Flash Chart
SVG_ONLY HTML5 ChartSo if you choose to generate a "Flash Chart" in APEX 4.2, AnyChart will handle the rendering of that chart for you, depending upon whether Flash is found on the device or not. Where Flash is detected, a Flash chart is rendered, however if Flash isn't detected (e.g. on devices such as an iPad), then a HTML5 chart will be rendered. So there's nothing additional for you to do - no need for two regions on your page with two different charts. If you choose to generate a "HTML5 Chart", then a HTML5 chart will always be rendered - this is no fallback to Flash with this option.
I hope this helps to clarify things for you.

Hilary -

Hi
I've got a client who has a HTML site on a laptop for a
presentation and
within this site he's wants a link that attaches to a AS2
.swf that I've
developed.
The thing is it he wants it to link to specific area of the
file and not to
play it all. How would I do this as he's just asked for the
specific address
of the area it needs to jump to.
Any help would be much appreciated bearing in mind my
ActionScript is pure
novice so a step by step would be handy.
thanks

--B_3299492325_1333456--What do you mean about opening a flash file? Do you want the
.fla file
to open in flash? Or is it a swf that you imported into
Director? Or
is it an exe that was published from flash? Or a website that
was
created with Flash?
If you are opening a .exe and you know the path to it, then
you can use
Director's built-in open command
open the moviePath&"flashFile.exe"
for most other things, I would use BuddyAPI. To open an exe,
baRunProgram(). To open a fla or swf, baOpenFile.
To make Director open a swf on the stage, import it and
simply tell the
button to go to that frame. -
Best way to pass vars from html into flash?
I've read a variety of pages that describe how to pass a variable into a flash movie (AS3, player = v9) from the html in which it is embedded. This page describes AS3 but neglects to mention what to do with the object and embed tags in the noscript section. Furthermore, I'm not sure the javascript I see generated in my page looks like the example there (the js in my page doesn't check AC_FL_RunContenta against zero). This page is quite long and appears to deal mostly with AS1 and AS2 approaches which I have used before and neglects entirely the newish javascript approach which appears to be used to embed flash these days (i.e., the javascript function AC_FL_RunContent).
I was wondering if someone could spell out the proper way to pass in a variable from HTML so that flash can see it in such a way that works even if javascript is disabled, in all browsers, etc., etc.
I've attached the HTML generated by the Flash IDE to this topic. Any help would be much appreciated. You'll have to search for that concise and thorough list of steps or figure it out using the information you now have, which is sufficient to get it done. It's not that hard--add the FlashVars in the embedding code in the three places and use the various examples you have links to to add the code in the Flash file to access and use the FlashVars.
Your Flash will be embedded in a web page depending on the visitors settings... if they allow javascript then the javascript portion will be used. If they don't, then either the object or embed sections will be used depending on their browser.
As far as javascript changes go, don't sweat 'em until you have a problem... use whatever code your Flash-created html page creates to embed the file in the page. -
How can I create html link to flash paper files page ?
ex: When I click to page5 link, it shold be open flashpaper
document and goto page 5 automatically.
This feature is avaible at pdf files.
Please help.
Thanks.I looked into this. From what I read, I don't think this is
supposed to work from compiled help. It can work from WebHelp. What
you are looking for is a "named destination" in Acrobat, not a
"bookmark." Apparently these are two separate things, but the named
destination is accessed like an HTML bookmark, e.g. <A
HREF="filename.pdf#destination>. You can also use a page number,
e.g. <A HREF="filename.pdf#page=4">
Hope this helps.
