Task Mgr Won't Run On Startup

p875-s7102 win 8.
I created a shortcut to run Task Manager on startup.  The shortcut is in the startup folder, but I always have to manually click on it to open it.  When I do that, it opens minimized in the system tray as well as the taskbar, which is what I want to have happen on startup. What am I doing wrong here?  If the answer is a command line, please be as specific as possible.

I ran across the same thing. It's because the new Task Manager requires elevated rights to display the disk and network data. And tools which require elevated rights don't run automatically. Two workarounds.
1. Use the Task Scheduler to start it at log on. Be sure to set Run with highest privileges.

2. Install the old Task Manager.

  • Task Scheduler Won't Run Task With Idle Condition

When I schedule a task to run Disk Cleanup with a one minute idle condition the task does does not run successfully and provides the following run result.
The Task Scheduler service has asked the task to run. (0x41325)
If I manually run the task or remove the idle condition the task runs and completes successfully.
Why won't the task start with an idle condition?

    Hi,
I noticed that you set the idle time shorter than the waiting for idle time. In my opinion, we should set the idle time longer than the waiting for idle time if we schedule a task running during the idle contidion. As the documents described, the Task Scheduler service will verify that the computer is in an idle state every 15 minutes. If a task is set to start only if the computer is idle for 30 minutes, and the task waits for the computer to be idle for 10 minutes, then the task will launch in 5 minutes only if the computer has been idle for 25 minutes prior to the time the trigger was activated. The task will not start if the computer enters an idle state 5 minutes after the trigger is activated. For more information, please refer to Task Idle Conditions.

  • Task Scheduler won't run batch file automatically

So, I have a folder filled with the program and the necessary resource files needed in order for it to function. When I start the batch file manually, (double-clicking) it functions as necessary. However, when i schedule it as a task, it either says it "the
program has stopped working" "a file is missing" (although the file is indeed on the system and in the folder) or it starts the program but it opens it in cmd and opens up a text box with the directory of the folder. Also, I'm running a windows
    8.1 with a x64-bit OS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Senor Vega,
It sounds like it might be a permissions type issue keeping your file from running properly.
Check to see what type of user account it is set to run under.
It may be that it needs to run under an account with administrative privileges, which you would need to ensure that you have “Run with highest privileges” selected.
If you are running the task from a standard user account, make sure you select “Run whether user is logged on or not” and select a user from the administrators group.
Also check the permissions of the batch file itself to make sure those are set properly.
    Hope this helps!

  • Task Scheduler Won't Run WBADMIN Backup

After several weeks of trying, the backup (wbadmin) doesn't work from the task scheduler.  When I enter the WBADMIN Start Backup command directly into a command prompt, it executes perfectly and backs up everything it's supposed to, but for some reason,
when that EXACT SAME COMMAND is executed from the task scheduler it starts, then immediately stops.  I opened the Task Scheduler, clicked on "Task Scheduler Library" in the left pane, and looked at the backup job in the top window of the center pane.
The "Last Run Result" column simply showed, "(0xFFFFFFFF")".  I also clicked on the job's History Tab, which showed 7 entries at the date/time the job is set to trigger, which indicated that the task started and completed, "successfully" within the same
second (i.e. 01:00:00), but absolutiely nothing is backed up, nor are there any entries for the trigger date on the backup drive.
This has happened four Sundays in a row, and each time, when I subsequently execute the WBADMIN command from a command prompt, it works correctly.  Any ideas about what I'm missing and/or doing incorrectly
    Creacon

Thanks Jeff, but unfortunately, I've already done all those things from advice in a previous thread.  The task scheduler DOES schedule the task, and my History is not disabled. But when the Task Scheduler starts, it then stops immediately with two
log entries: 1) "Action Completed", and in the lower history window "Task Scheduler successfully completed the task ...", and 2) a log entry saying "Task Completed", and in the lower history window, "Task Scheduler successfully finished...", but NOTHING
is backed up.  I've gone through the task scheduler settings for the task, and everything seems ok, but no dice.  Yet, I can enter the EXACT SAME wbadmin command into a command prompt, and the backup works fine.
Here's the actual "SCHTASKS" command that I entered to schedule the job:
    SCHTASKS /Create /SC  WEEKLY /D SUN /TN CTServerWeeklyBackup /RL Highest /ST 01:00 /TR "WBADMIN START BACKUP -backupTarget:f: -allCritical  -include:C:\,D:\CAB\,D:\Downloads\,D:\Extracts\,D:\SSLCert\,D:\Temp\,U:\CAB\,U:\Shares\,U:\Temp\  >
    C:\backupLogs.txt"
The above command executed without incident, then I immediately checked the task scheduler, and the task was there, properly scheduled.  When the trigger time/day occurred, the task simply started then immediately stopped, yet when I enter just
the WBADMIN command into a command prompt, it executes correctly, completely and without incident.

  • Task sequences won't run after "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr"

In my Task Sequence for SCCM 2012 R2, no task sequences that occur after the "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager" step will run if I add to the Installation properties:
    PATCH="\\server.domain.com\D$\SMSPKGSIG\PHX00033.2\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"
I believe this hotfix is necessary because I had to install on the server to fix the speed of downloading the WIM file. And I believe it says I need to append this PATH= switch to the install.
Is my path used incorrectly or something? Because that is the actual path to the file.
My task sequences will run fine if I remove it and just leave the SMSMP=server.domain.com in the install properties.

Your path would then be :
    PATCH="C:\_SMSTaskSequence\OSD\JJJ00033.2\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"
I suggest that you plan for further patches. Create a directory with all your future hotfix in it.
    Ex: D:\SCCMHotFixes\KBNumber\x64
Your "Patch" parameter will grow over time, when a new hotfix will be release, you'll need
to add it after this one and so on...
I always use the _SMSTSDataPath without any problem, you could also try this.
    PATCH=""%_SMSTSMDataPath%\OSD\JJJ00033.2\configmgr2012ac-r2-kb2905002-x64.msp"

  • Firefox won't run, but says it is when I try to unistall it - Win 7 task manager says it isn't..how can I get around this to uninstall it?

I have been trying to open a browser window with Mozilla Firefox 6.0.2 (x86 en-US). It won't run, however, when I try to uninstall the program, it says I have to close firefox first. Win 7 task manager does not show the program as running.
I tried again, and still get the same message from Firefox. I checked the task manager again, not running. Tried running it - won't run. Tried uninstall, got the same message, close firefox before trying to uninstall - firefox isn't running!
I would appreciate any help that you could give me. I want to use firefox, especially since it is the browser that opens Webkinz correctly for my grandkids.

In the task manager, are you looking at Processes? That is where you find Firefox listed when you see no interface, not in Applications.
This page might have some useful information about that problem.

  • Batch File Won't Run as a Scheduled Task

I have two batch files that won't run as scheduled tasks but run perfectly fine when I double-click them.
I've already set them to run with highest privileges, the account running them is an administrator account, that account has full permissions to the folder and file. I've checked every thread I could find but they simply won't run. No error, no log, nothing...
If I right click the scheduled task and select Run, nothing happens.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
As far as I know, you have to enter the script folder in the "Start in" field. Else it just won't work - and won't really give you any meaningful error messages. So, please check your setting.

  • Scheduled task won't run .bat file

Hi. On Windows Server 2008 I have a scheduled task that calls a .bat file. The fist step in the .bat file is write to a log file to the same directory in which the .bat file exists. This allows me to find out if it is ever run. When the .bat file is run from a command prompt it runs as expected writing to the log file and completing its actions. My problem is that when I run the scheduled task manually or allow it to run when scheduled it appears to run but the .bat file is never run. No log file is ever created. The History tab in the properties of the scheduled tasks shows the task being started and running then completing with an operation code of 2. I've disabled the UAC for the user account. I've set the task to run as the Administrator user and verified the permissions for that user. I know the password is correct for the task because I can make changes to the properties and save those changes with the username/password. I'm at a loss for further troubleshooting steps. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure out why these .bat files are not being run?

So I had this problem, I double clicked on the .bat and notepad opened the .bat.  I ran through this whole long and very absorbing thread of this forum.   I wanted to save the entries that were most helpful, so I copied and pasted into
a notepad document (.txt)  I could not find a way to attach it here, so I copied and pasted that below. I called it a synopsis....  Did I spell that right?
As you can see, I added my experience at the top (A and B).  The stuff I copied is noted with the original author. This is the first time I posted anything to these here microsoft forums, although I have been telling computers what to do for 40+ years.
So hope I did not break any social protocols here.

    A) manually
This is an opinion added by Thomas Rock
        1) Open a command window (that would be cmd.exe)
        2) In the command window navigate to the directory containing the .bat file and it's dependents
               ex...  C:\Program Files (x86)\Bobs\Your\Uncle
        3) Run the .bat file by typing the name including the .bat extension (in the command window of course)
                 TheBatFile.bat
Note: Using this method, the .bat file will run in the current command window directory (the directory where the .bat file is located)
(this is the key for getting it to run in the task scheduler... Start in folder option)
    B) The double click
This is an opinion added by Thomas Rock
         1) Using Windows exlporer, find the .bat file
         2) use the mouse or other device to double click on the .bat file
         3) if it does not run (in my case the wordpad application opened the .bat file)
              a) make sure that the .bat file extension is associated with the program c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
              b) make sure the profile you are using has rights to run the cmd.exe
              c) make sure the profile has the rights to the directories, the .bat and any other objects used or affected by the .bat file processing.
    C) As a task using task scheduler
Proposed As Answer by Brian Vandemark Wednesday, September 02, 2009 9:36 PM
    1) Make sure that the task is set to "configure for Windows Vista or Windows 2008" on the first page of the task properties (under the "general" tab)
    2) Make sure that the task is set to "start in" the folder that contains the batch file:
          a) open the task properties
          b) click on the "actions" tab
          c) click on the action and then the "edit" button at the bottom.
          d) In the "Edit Action" Window there is a field for "start in (optional)" that you set to the path to the batch file.
          e) be sure to include an end backslash for the start in path "C:\dir1\dir2\"    (the last backslash is not optional)
    3) Make sure that the task is running as an account that has explicit "Full access" permissions to all these things:
          a) the .bat file itself
          b) the folder containing the .bat file
          c) the target files/folders that are affected by the .bat script.
Note:  Inherited permissions did not seem to work.
    4) Make sure that the account running the task is a member of the local "administrators" group for this machine
    5) Make sure that the task is set to "run whether logged on or not"
    6) Tick the box "Run with highest privileges".
Note: Point 6 here was from Edson F. Lima Wednesday June 30 2010 1:35 PM
The original point 6 was moved to point 7.
    7) The Task should run successfully with expected output when you right-click on the task and select "run"
If it does that then it will run successfully when you are logged off.
    D) Still another way as a task using task scheduler
Proposed As Answer byDarren Wallace Thursday, July 15, 2010 1:41 AM
This has been bugging me for 6 or 7 months.
I don't have admin rights to the box and the guy who does is very busy...
so I've felt the range of emotions mentioned above.
I tried most everything above as well. But what seemed to get my processes processing, was ...
       • on the General tab, I clicked the Change User or Group button
       • in Select User or Group (first smaller dialog box)  I clicked the Advanced... button
       • in the next Select User or Group (second bigger dialog box) I clicked the Find Now button
       • in the Search results I selected the Administrators (a group) and it returned SERVERname\Administrators into the "Enter the object name to select" entry in the previous dialog box
       • then I clicked OK and returned to the General tab above
       • the options to Run only when user is logged on and Run whether user is logged on or not are no longer available
       • then I made sure that the Run with highest privileges was checked
       • then I clicked OK and during the next scheduled time to run ... it ran
Note: See note in A) Manually above.
    E) Task scheduler recommendation
Proposed As Answer byTamusJRoyceThursday, December 01, 2011 3:42 PM
I have found .bat and .cmd files do not run correctly either.
My solution:  Don't run the batch file directly.
           Have TaskScheduler run:  cmd.exe
              with parameter:  /C YourBatchFile.bat
and start in: C:\SomePath\ (without quotes!) where C:\SomePath\YourBatchFile.bat exists.
And then select the radio button for it to run regardless if you are logged in or not.
Exit errors may not be logged to the Event Log (they weren't when the .bat ran directly from Task Scheduler when I was logged in), so I find it best to manually log your own Event in case a error occurs and you want to send an email.
REM Logs an event which causes eventlog to send an email when it fails.  Also, "/l application" needs to be lowercase.
    eventcreate /t error /id 203 /l application /d "your logged description."
And then make a completely separate task with a trigger:  On an event.  Basic Selected.  Log: Application.  Source: EventCreate. Event ID: 203.  And have the action on this task send an email (attaching any generated log files, if needed).
Hopefully helpful (took me 3 days to figure all this out...gar)

  • CS3 installs but won't run

Ok - not sure if this goes in this section or not.. but it's a technical question.
My b/f bought me a Dell Laptop last week. It has the recommended minimum of everything adobe says it needs for photoshop CS3 (see below for 1721 specs)
When I installed it on the laptop - it was slow, but said it installed. But when I go to open up Photoshop, it opens the screen - and then just hangs. After about 5 minutes it says not responding and I close it. Any of the other programs that came with won't even get that far. I click on them and it gives the little "thinking" circle (as I call it.. lol) and then nothing.
I have read that CS3 has issues with Vista - but their site says the home premium should work. I've also read about 64 bit issues.. but the OS is 32 bit - so it's capable of running 32bit systems... I guess.
I called adobe yesterday after installing and reinstalling CS3 15+ times... with the same issue. I was on the phone for about 2 hours with them. Basically - they have NO CLUE what it would be since it installs fine and opens with no error messages. I checked the log files and there is nothing in there I see that says any kind of error.
I have disable windows defender, uninstalled McAfee and google desktop (all are known to cause issues with CS3), I have ALL non MS startup services turned off.. I have turned off the MS users control.. all suggested by the adobe tech.
I have installed using the run as administrator. Nothing. Created a new admin account and installed on that user and opened on reg admin account. Nothing. (again typical things that correct cs3 install issues)
The last thing the guy said was that it might be a video issue. I checked and there aren't any issues mentioned and no driver updates listed.
We tryed installing this on my b/f's laptop. He bought the exact one I have (except his is red.. mine blue.. lol) and it does the EXACT same thing...
So today we called dell. they say it's a software issue and won't answer any questions for free. Apparently only hardware support is free... But they won't accept this is a hardware conflict with the software..
    errrrr
Anybody have any clues on this?

Rob - thanks for taking a stab at this.
I have tried installing from the DVD and also from the zip file. the zip file was extracted to the hard drive brfore I ran it - and I ran it as administrator.
And when it stalls - it gives the (NOT RESPONDING) tag on the window - which usually means that even if I leave it (and I have for up to 20 minutes) - still nothing.
Here's the update from my dealings with DEll today...
Dell tech support guy told me that it was a know issue that CS3 WON'T run on Vista and that Adobe is working the issue
Told them that I knew others that were running it on Vista and it worked fine. They had no answer.
Then I waited for the Technical support manger to call. This is after expressing my displeasure to the technical supervisor about them trying to pawn this issue off on anyone else but themselves. Why can't they go grab a 1721 off the shelf and replicate the issue and try to figure it out from there?!?!?!
I used to work on a network helpdesk.. if I tried to pull that crap answer without trying to replicate the issue and AT LEAST try to find an answer.. I wouldn't have lasted very long at all!!!!
The Tech manager told me to call customer support and ask for an OS swap (from vista to XP) because they don't know what the problem is and so it muct be a Vista compatibility issue
I call customer support. They say that they no longer will give out XP since it is a step backwards. And to install XP on the machine ourselves (even a liscensed copy) would void the warranty. They suggest I talk to sales about swapping the laptop out with a "more compatible" one. Which isn't a totally bad idea since I really do think it is an AMD/ATI conflict.
They transfer me to Sales.. ohh - you used the Employee Purchase program.. you need to talk to them.. and they transfer me.
The EPP people tell me.. ohhhh you didn't actually go through us since you bought it off the Dell Outlet store. So they transfer me.
The dell outlet store says they will be more than happy to swap me out to an Intel based machine.
Only catch is the Intels are more expensive. They don't have any for the price we paid for the amd's. Fot about $40 more I can get one with a slower processer, a gig less ram, no dvd writer, but with a 160gb hd. To get compatible to mine - would be about $150 more.
And they only have silver in the low end, and black or brown in the higher. Not that I really give a s@!t what the color is.. but it brings up the main reason I am sooo pissed abput all of this....
Why should I have to pay more money, settle on doing without option/features want/need.. just because THEY don't want to take the time to figure out what the real issue is?!?!?! Why isn't it them doing these calls and doing all this troubleshooting.. Why am I being peanilzed for THEM not wanting to do their jobs....
Told the B/F that I am done with Dell. That I don't want the laptop anymore and I don't want any other one from them. He says he'll pay the extra and get me the other one.. but that isn't the point....
Not sure what my next move is.

  • Activity Monitor Won't Run

Anyone else having this problem? Activity monitor will simply not run. It starts, then crashes...every time.

Me, too! Since upgrading to SL & then immediately to 10.6.2 a couple days ago.
Well, it won't run - it didn't crash, it just hung on startup. I tried repairing permissions and, after finding this thread, removed the plist file suggested, but no luck. I just realized I should check the log (Console), and found it was putting out this, over and over again:
    12/13/09 11:28:47 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.ActivityMonitor[4828]) posix_spawn("/Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app/Contents/MacOS/activitymonitord", ...): No such file or directory
And exiting, then retrying every 10 seconds.
I opened the Activity Monitor package to confirm that activitymonitord is there, but upon rereading the message I realized it's telling me Activity Monitor needs to be in the utilities folder - and I had moved it into a subdirectory (to declutter my Utilities folder). It always worked there in previous systems, but apparently SL's Activity Monitor has a hard-coded address built in.
I moved AM back to where Apple wants it and it immediately opened. Don't know if this helps anyone else, but I thought I'd put this out there in case it does . . .
(Yes, I know you "should" leave programs where Apple puts them and keep your files in your user folder, but I just like to do things my way whenever I can get away with it.)

  • Add-on won't run on some clients

As soon as an add-on users de DI SDK, it crashes at startup on some systems and I don't know why.
I'm using the DI Basic Operations example that came with the SDK. I build it, and used the SAP B1 SDK setup .NET Wizard to create the installer and licence file. The istallation goes fine, but the addon itself crashes. with a useless "the program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" error message (see below)
I also tried other ways to run the add-on (among others directly from visual studio or from the command line, with the developer licence number as argument) but allways with the same result. At one system all goes well, at the other a crash occurs even before the debugging can start.
I have no idea what this error message is trying to tell me:

Most of the time however, I get a much less helpfull error saying there was some unidentified illegal operation.
Something that is possibly related is a problem with the references. On a PC where the add-on crashes I don't have the SAP DI as reference in the .NET and COM tabs, only the SAP UI. When I open an example the DI reference is reporting an error (not found) , but when I add the reference as a file, all is well. (The project now compiles with no errors or warnings, it still crashes when I start it.
The problem already occured when only SBO was installed (which should be sufficient to run the add-on? You don't need to have the SDK installed I presume). I installed the SDK and later even Visual Studio, but this didn't help.
I've reinstalled SBO several times (I even deleted the sbo program files directory before installing SBO again) but this didn't change anything.
    (I'm using 2004a)
Does anyone know what could cause this problem?

I know that, but that didn't help.
Is there any way to find out which versions of the DI API a SBO client is currently using?
We've re-installed the clients and DI API using the shared folder on the server, but that didn't help. (maybe some old dll was locked and couldn't be removed (without any notice of that happening) and is still being used?)
One system indeed didn't have the DI API installed and the problem was solved a bit (my own plug-in now works fine, but the "DI basic operations" example of the SDK crashes when connecting to a company database.)
We've now got 3 machines running my add-on without any problems (the server and 2 notebooks) and 1 notebook who won't run my add-on at all.
The DI basic operations Example of the SDK won't run on any of the notebooks, only on the server.
On one notebook it crashes when I click "choose company DB" (which should give me a list of available companies) on the other notebook it crashes when I try to connect to a (any) specific company database and on the third notebook it gives an empty list and won't connect to anything (but doesn't crahs)
    this is all 100% reproducable.
All machines run the SBO client and UI add-ons perfectly, only the DI seems to cause problems.
another weird problem that might be related, is that I need to compile my add-on as "debug". When I compile it as "release", it won't run on any of the notebooks, only on the server.

Are you sure Firefox was closed completely, making sure the firefox.exe process was closed in the Task Manager, before starting the Flash installer?
There are two different versions of Flash, the '''''ActiveX''''' version for IE and the '''Plugin''' version used by most other browsers.
1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />
