Tasks to iOS devices stuck sending in Profile Manager
I am managing about 30 iPads and 10 iPhones through Profile Manager.
I installed iOS 7 on a freshly wiped iPad and enrolled it with the server and everything works as expected (including locking, updating info, pushing settings, etc)
I then updated an already enrolled iPad from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7. Everything appears to still be intact (all settings, apps, profiles, etc) but it will not longer accept commands (lock, clear passcode, push settings, etc) from the Profile Manager. When I try to send a task it just shows sending and never fails or completes. The iPad has internet access (it is on the same wifi network as the above mentioned iPad that is working fine)
Other already enrolled devices that have not yet updated to iOS 7 seem to complete tasks (Update info) just fine.
I was running 10.8.4 with OS X Server 2.2.1 when this began, and have since updated to 10.8.5 and Server 2.2.2 with no change in behavior.
How can I troubleshoot why this iPad is not completing commands. I'm worried that as my users update to iOS 7 other iPads will not recieve commands and I will need to have them re-enroll with the server in order to manage them. (Which I would like to avoid if possible)
I've already asked people to hold off on updating, but without any way to prevent them from updating, I just have to hope...
I installed the iPCU and have looked at the console but I'm not seeing anything relevant. It's like the the command isn't being recieved by the iPad at all (even though Profile Manager shows it as sending, the iPad has internet access, and another iPad on the same network has no problem recieving commands)
Looking at the logs on an iPad that is receiving commands (the iPad with a fresh iOS 7 install, enrolled with Profile Manager after iOS 7 was installed) I see entries related to MDM:

Do I need internet access on my iOS devices to enroll with Profile Manager?
Hi, I'm trying to configure Profile Manager on a closed network. The Mac Server does have Internet access, but the network for the iOS devices can only have communication with the server, but not to the internet because of company policies. Is there a way around to make it work or do I need internet access on the iOS devices as well?
I've made the enrollment process in another network with internet access for every device and everything works well, but on the other network(no internet for iOS devices) everything seems ok (from conection to the server, profile certifiacation and stuf) but the devices can't send or receive anything else, like pushed configurations and device info. Ports and everything is ok, I even read that they need to be on an open network so I know it all comes down to having internet access, but just wanted to ask if there's another way around?? Suggestions?
Thanks! You can share internet connection with your XP-PC using a router(as I do with XP-old MAC's,connected via cable). You may look for more info at:
http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/mylinksyssetup.html
and
http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/os9xnet_nfilesharing.html
Did you ever use a MAC before? Have you got Airport at your PC?Which?
Good luck -
I have my server set as server.xxxxxx.private, and need to know if it is possible to enroll it using profile manager. I assume this would have to be done when the IOS device is on the same network, and subsequently the DNS server would have to be added to the WiFi configuration. When I do this it tells me that Safari can't open the page. I manually installed the self signed certificate.
Same issues here.
Buggy as ****..
Also after some time, the Profile Manager PAne doesn't even fill in Server.app.....stays at Loading...
Nevertheless, the service itself works with the bug you outlined, plus enroll is impossible for me (check my post here: Can't enroll devices with Profile Manager - invalid key )
I hope all these get fixed in 10.7.1 !!! -
In my icloud account on my iphone I have three ios devices. How do I manage the backup of my old phone ? I dont want to detete that backup completetly, just manage that phone back up ? Please help!
It will be backed up on your computer and can later be restored to an iOS device using iTunes, if desired. Of course, if your hard drive crashes you'll lose it if it isn't backed up somewhere else. If you want to included it in your computer backup, it will be located at one of the following locations:
Mac OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Windows XP: %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows Vista: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows 7: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup -
Server 4.0 stuck on "Updating Profile Manager service"
Updated my Mac mini server to Yosemite, bought server 4.0 and installed it.
Then started the update procedure, but the progress bar only goes half, then stuck at "Updating Profile Manager service".
Waited for more than an hour, no progress. Killed the update and tried again, but the same result.
Anyone a solution ?
Greetings

IOS Device-Sensor and ISE profiling not working
Hello,
I configured IOS device-sensor on one 2960CG-8-TCL switch. IOS is 15.2(2)E.
Switchconfig:
device-sensor filter-list dhcp list dhcp-list
option name host-name
device-sensor filter-spec dhcp include list dhcp-list
device-sensor accounting
device-sensor notify all-changes
Switch does DHCP-Snooping and "show device-sensor cache all" shows the DHCP name:
Device: b2b5.2fff.sa43 on port GigabitEthernet0/1
Proto Type:Name Len Value
DHCP 12:host-name 17 0C 0F 11 31 22 41 50 43 33 31 32 30 30 30 37 38
38
RADIUS probe on ISE is activated and TCPdump shows the accounting packets from the switch (see attachment).
I configured a profiling rule ot check for DHCP-Hostname with "contains". This rule does not work however. The device is getting profiled with a MAC-OUI via RADIUS-probe but the DHCP-Profile is not working.
Is this supposed to work? That is interesting. I haven't worked with the "Device Sensor" much so I am running out of ideas. I really thought the certainty level was going to fix your issue as I have had issues similar like yours in the past where the certainty level of my custom rule was the same as a default one so mine custom rule was never hit. . I thought this was the case with you since your device was hitting the parent policy of "HP-Device" but not moving any further. With that being l would still recommend keeping your custom conditions with higher certainty levels to avoid such situations.
Couple of more things:
1. What profiling probes do you have enabled?
2. Have you tried retrieving the DHCP hostname via another sensor/method. For example, via the DHCP probe and ip-helper?
3. Do you have the following commands entered on your switch:
access-session template monitor
no macro auto monitor
device-sensor accounting
device-sensor notify all-changes -
Enrolling iOS devices "not shown in Configuration Manager console"
After successfully enrolled my Windows RT I want to enroll my iOS devices (iPad 1 & iPhone 4). First step is completing the iOS configuration (uploading APN certificate). Next step I associated my devices by installing management
profiles (https://manage.microsoft.com). All my application appears when starting the Company Portal App but my device will not appear in my Configuration Manager admin console.
When I select the Support tile in the Company App it says "Name not yet available", I'm not sure if this is a normal behavior?
Any thoughts/pointers are welcome.
Regards,

Is there a maximum number of devices to enroll in Profile Manager in OS X Server?
Just wondering if there's a limit to the number of devices that should be managed using profile manager.
I have the Mac Mini Server running the lastest version. There's no real maximum although there are limits in which everything on your network would start to struggle in a major way. You could use Apple's support article regarding PM's Scalability as a rough guide?:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4780
I was recently involved in a real world deployment of approx 1600 iPads and 8 MacMini Servers (200 devices per server) each in their own subnet and using PM as the MDM. It works well but only after working very, very closely with the network designer prior to roll-out. If all you're ever going to have is 100-300 devices then one server should be enough? As ever YMMV. -
Yosemite Server 4 upgrade is stuck at updating Profile Manager service
My iMac was using Mac OS 10.9 and Server v3 and I just upgraded to Yosemite and then purchased Server v4. When I launched Server it said that it was going to update my services. It got as far as "updating Profile Manager service." Is anyone else having this issue? It has been stuck at doing the updating for about 9 hours now and no change. Any ideas?

Successfully enrolled devices not showing in profile manager
On a newly installed (from scratch, formatted etc) Mountain Lion server, I'm having an issue where I can successfully enrol a device, an iPhone with 6.1 iOS in this case, but the enrolled device does not show up in the devices?
I see a previous post in these communities with a similar issue, the solution was to add place holders after the device was enrolled, unfortunately this is not a solution for me, as soon as you re-enrol the placeholder dissapears I have another server running mountain lion at another site and this is working just fine.
Any solutions? I'm pulling my hair out with this. I have a niggling feeling that with the other server I had a similar problem when I upgraded to Mountain Lion and had to edit one of the ruby files in the profilemanager to display the devices but I can't remember where or when
Regards,
Stephen...ok update to this problem:
If I enroll a Mac device, in this case the mini server itself then these are displayed under the device library.
also tried an iPad with iOS6 and this was successful, and displays in the device library.
Currently the iPhone is not displaying although enrolled successfully is an iPhone4 so I'm going to experiment with a few other devices and see whats happening -
How to remove stuck app in profile manager 3
Greetings. In Profile Manger 3 Under Library apps I have an app that will not allow me to remove it. So, I backed up my database and then I did remove it from postgres db under the tables ios_applications* and I did remove the app from the file location on the sever however it's still showing up in profile manger does anyone know how I can remove this app from the apps list?
Sincerly,
TimSo, this issue has been sovled. When installing OSX Server 10.9 the device manger database was replaced with a database named.
devicemgr_v2m0
I am not sure if this is the same name for all upgrades/new installs or diffrent based on the upgrade path.

Pushing a web clip to iOS devices fails.
We just set up a Mac Server to do some light mobile device management and I want to put a web clip on every iPads home screen. I set the payload in Profile Manager but when I go to save the new configuration and have it pushed to the iPads they all fail the task. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!I've already asked people to hold off on updating, but without any way to prevent them from updating, I just have to hope...
I installed the iPCU and have looked at the console but I'm not seeing anything relevant. It's like the the command isn't being recieved by the iPad at all (even though Profile Manager shows it as sending, the iPad has internet access, and another iPad on the same network has no problem recieving commands)
Looking at the logs on an iPad that is receiving commands (the iPad with a fresh iOS 7 install, enrolled with Profile Manager after iOS 7 was installed) I see entries related to MDM:

since i instaled ios 6 , i send a message with my iphone and i receive in my ipad. what is happening?
Sounds like it is using your Apple ID / Associated Emails to receive the iMessage. This means that the person who is replying is making it go to your email address. Make sure that the person you are sending the iMessage to has an iPhone as well. I don't remember if other iOS devices can send iMessages to a mobile phone number.

Heartbleed: Remove Certificate Authority from iOS device
Hi,
I am in the process of changing SSL certificates after the Heartbleed bug. As I wasn't able to find a reliable cross platform way to revoke my internal certificates (e.g. Chrome doesn't check CRLs), I'm planning to reissue new certificates based on a new internal certificate authority (CA) and to remove the old CA from all systems. This should render all previous certificates as untrusted.
This is easy for Linux, Windows and OS X, but how can I do this for iOS 7 devices? I believe the CA certificate was originally deployed to the iOS devices through a configuration profile. However, when I go to Settings > General > Profiles, there is no such profile listed. The iOS Safari shows my internal HTTPs pages without certificate warnings, thus the device must somehow have remembered that CA as trustworthy.
Here are my questions:
How can I view and/or modify the trust settings of CAs on iOS 7 devices?
Where did the configuration profile with the CA go (I know that's a little weird to ask here) and why is the CA still active?
Why are internal Https pages still trusted even if there is no configuration profile for that?
This absolutely puzzles me! I always thought that for a custom CA to be active on a iOS device a configuration profile was required to be present. But that does not seem to be the case.
Thanks for your help! The workaround seems to be the following:
Go to the iPhone Configuration Utility
Install the profile (again)
Go to your iPhone and deinstall the profile that was just installed in Settings > General > Profiles
Certificates signed by that authority are not trusted anymore.
I consider this to be a major security problem in iOS if there is a way that profiles enable CAs and then get lost sometime later (maybe through an iOS upgrade?).
