TCS4 + CS5.5 + *3* machines + Activation/Deactivation - Question Jumble

I apologize in advance if this seems convoluted -- I have *tried* to make sure I'm saying only what needs to be said :-) Any help would be appreciated. [Note: I *did* try to 'chat' with a representative, but didn't even get through the deactivation question before they got stuck in scripted answer limbo.]
On machine #1, I had previously installed TCS2.5 and CS5.5 (Design Standard). Thus I Acrobat X Pro (amongst many other apps, including Acrobat 9 Pro Extended) available.
I recently installed TCS4 on machine #1 (which includes Acrobat XI Pro), but Acrobat X Pro and Acrobat 9 Pro are no longer available (error message: action is only valid for products that are currently installed).
I also installed TCS4 on machine #2.
I now need to use TCS4 on machine #3 (and machine #2). I can live without it on machine #1 for the time being, but would like to be able to use it again later.
So...
I need to deactivate TCS4 on machine #1 and activate it on machine #3. According to a page in the adobe help, I should be able to do this *without* removing the software from machine #1.
Question: Is that correct?
Question: Is there a time limit within which I have to reactivate, or am I good anytime?
Question: Is there a limit to the number of times I can deactivate and reactivate the software, and/or a minimum period between deactivation and reactivation?
When I deactivate TCS4 on machine #1, I will no longer have Acrobat available.
Question: Can I *reinstall* Acrobat 9 Pro (from the TCS2.5 install) or Acrobat X Pro (from the CS5.5 install)?
Question: Will installing this older version of Acrobat interfere with the Acrobat XI Pro that is already installed (which I will want to be able to use again later)?
In a nutshell, I'm doing this because I need to keep confidential client information on machines #2 and #3 (cannot share the information on the same machine). They are the main clients for the TCS software. But, I will also need to use the TCS software, on occasion, for other clients using machine #1 (again, cannot share info on common machines). So... I need to be able to turn off the software on one machine and turn it back on on the other. (As you can infer, the issue of Acrobat versions (and other adobe software) applies to each machine -- I want to be able to keep two machines running current software, and have the third running my licensed extra copy of Acrobat.)
Thanks all :-)

Installation and activation are separate and distinct actions, completely independent.
You can have installed Adobe software that is deactivated - it's still fully there but won't run.
Don't tie yourself in knots - the easiest thing to do would be to contact Adobe customer service and have them reset the activation counts for all your product serial numbers to zero.  Then you can reactivate them exactly on the systems you want (just start the programs to do this).

Hope this helps!

  • My local (win7) machine actively refusing to connect to a web service created on same machine (VS2012) -- how to resolve?

I created a web service in an Asp.Net application (VS2012) which uses Entity Framework to connect to the AdventureWorksLT database on my local sql server (2008 R2 running on win7).  The web service appears to run fine when I build it and run it and
    I get this uri
    http://localhost:51798/
I then create a separate wpf project (vs2012) .  The first thing I do with this wpf project is to try to add a service reference to the web service I just created.  I right click on the project, select add service refence, the service reference
dialog window comes up.  I don't click on Discover (OK I did click it :) because the web service is not part of this solution.  So I enter
http://localhost:51798/ and click go.  I receive the following error message
    >>
There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:51798/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/$metadata'.
Unable to connect to the remote server
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:51798
Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://localhost:51798/'.
There was no endpoint listening at http://localhost:51798/ that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.
Unable to connect to the remote server
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:51798
If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again.
    <<
What can I do / should I do to resolve this?  Is the firewall blocking something maybe?  Do I need to add an inbound rule or something?

OK.  I added system.web to the wpf app.  I also did this to the uri
    http://localhost/AdventureWorksService/AdventureWorksService.svc
    -I added /AdventureWorksService.svc -- but still nothing.
So I decided to recreate the whole project and integrate the wcf project with the wpf project in the same solution.  Now I can at least find the web service using discover, but I now get this error message

  • Does CS5 upgrade require activation?

About 10 days ago, I received CS5 Master Collection Upgrade.
It was then installed successfully in the same folder of CS4 Supreme.
When I opened CS5 Photoshop (and other prorams), Adobe CS Master Collection Trial page popped up and asked me to type in serial number.
It is odd to see that I got to type in serial number again.
I wonder CS5 upgrade needs activation (like what we do for installing Windows 7).   hummer

I purchased disks.  It came in a box.
During upgrading, I do not recall that there was an option for 30 trial.
It just prompted to type in serial number.
Even though CS4 (or adobe folder) was already on my C-drive, the CS5 Master CollectionUpgrade ignore it.
I was forced to type in s/n.  That was what I did.

Check if your EPMA Web Application Service is running. If it is, attempt to get to this URL: http://server:19091/awb. If you can see the page, you should try to login. If your login fails and you get a 404, the issue is isolated to the IIS side. Check your IIS logs and you can take it from there. You should also check your IIS settings and make sure that there's a virtual directory for EPMA in IIS.

Negative reviews are common place here as it is a trouble shooting forum. If you want to read the advantages, improvements and new features then go to the Apple site. If you are running Word 2004, Early Adobe suite, etc which are PPC programs, then don't update. Go to Apple logo in upper left menu bar, open About this mac > More Info > Software >Applications and sort by 'Kind' and look what PPC programs you have installed. If you are not prepared to upgrade these programs, then do not update to Lion.
There are plenty of threads to read up on about this here. But remember that 99.9% of comments will be negative, even though the forums represent only a tiny fraction of the Millions of Lion Downloads purchased and installed with no issues at all. So basically it's your call.
    Good Luck

  • Multi-"Machine" Activation Question:  Virtual Machines

    Hi,
I am developing plugins and have the need to test with a wide range of Photoshop versions on a wide range of operating systems.
At the moment I'm accomplishing this through the use of VMware virtual machines.  I have a powerful 64 bit host workstation running Vista x64 and have created virtual machines for XP Pro, Vista 32 bit, Win7 RC, and Win7 retail.  Virtualization saves me from having to build a lab full of test hardware.
I have the desire to test with versions 6 through CS4...  I haven't yet gone through the process of installing all the versions of Photoshop on all these VMs; just a few, which is probably covered under the 2 activations limit...  My question is this:
Will Adobe consider it a separate activation for each virtual machine?  Can they be "sweet talked" into allowing more?  I am running them all on one computer, and (generally speaking) using only one at a time.
From what I can see the software will not realize this is one and the same computer, since the virtualization environment does a good job of convincing the OS that it's a completely separate computer...  I suppose I will forge ahead and call Adobe...  Adobe phone contact is not touted to be much of an easy or rewarding thing from what I hear.
Any advice on how to proceed with setting up a decent testing environment to support long-term multi-platform testing would be great.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Noel

I would read this attached page. We are pretty much users like you and cannot speak for adobe or how they might react to your question. Calling them is the only option.

  • My Macbookpro will not start up.  At first it was showing a gray screen with a flashing folder and question mark.  I went through the steps to repair with disc utility and this did not work.  How do I back up my data, without time machine activated?

I need to back up my files and date before erasing my drive, but my time machine backup is not coming up.  How do I access my hard drive to back up my files?

A erase of the drive or boot partition is not always necessary.
Flashing question mark at boot could be a easy fix, sometimes it's the firmware that simply forgot what bootable volume to boot from.
Try holding the Option key down while booting the machine, a choice of bootable options appears, select your OS X and boot up.
When you get in, head to System Preferences > Startup disk and set it again new. This will tell the firmware what to boot from. Test it to see.
Now if you don't have a selection of bootable options, it could be that the drive is dead, or OS X is erased or corrupted so it can't boot.
You'll have to run through this list of fixes to see what's going on, if you need a hardware fix or what, I've also included links if you can't fix it and need to recover your data etc.
(If it's not remmebering your boot selection then also run through the list to reset things.)

  • Uninstalled and need to install CS5...activation?

I've recently upgraded my operating system to tiger and have had problems with CS5 since. I uninstalled it, but did NOT de-activate. I need to reinstall it on the same computer now. Should I have deactivated it? What are the proper steps at this point so as to not use up my number of times I can install or activate. If I upgrade computers in the next year, can I still install it on the new one after this? Thanks!!!

I'll assume that it works the same way on Macs that it does on PCs - no reason to suppose otherwise.
Your activation enables you to have two activated installations at any one time. The idea is that you can have one on a desktop and one on a laptop, and you're not supposed to use both at once... . It's fine to uninstall without deactivating, if you intend to put the software back on the same machine, but if you intend to use it on another one, then you will need to deactivate it when removing it from the first one.
So this means that you can roll your activations around if you want, as long as you don't attempt to have more than two current at the same time.

  • How many computers can I run CS3 on - activation/deactivation?

    Hi All,
We purchased the CS3 Design Premium for our office here - I use it the majority of the time and its installed on one other computer that is barely used but still needed (only when I'm not working on the same program)
We now need to install it on one more computer, but looked at the price of one license (just for photoshop and indesign - the rest they wont need to use) and its over $800 each!
So going back to the license agreement, it says the program can be active on two computers - with only one working on it at a time.
    My question is:
1- Can we install the software on the new computer (just the indesign and photoshop which is needed) and deactivate the other one that is barely used so it free's up an activation for the new computer? If so, once the one that is barely used is needed, can we then deactivate the new computer one and reactivate the barely used one? And vice versa when needed.
It just saves us from buying a new license when it really wont be used that much - on occasion.
Thanks ahead of time for all your help!

The EULA is very clear. You get two concurrent activation for the use of ONE person.
That is typically a work machine and a laptop or a work machine and home machine. It's not for two machines in the same office and using both machines at the same time is clearly a violation of the EULA. By using the word "we" I assume you intend to allow more than one person to access the software. That would violate the license.

  • PSN hack, system activation/deactivation and a foreboding of DRM restrictions to come.

I have had an ongoing issue since yesterday which has now escalated due to the terrible customer service at sony's call centres. My account has clearly been tampered with in some way and no one seems to believe me at customer support.Let me start by stating that this is my ONLY ps4. I purchased it 2 weeks ago and  activated it as my primary console upon initilisation. There are no other users accessing it at any time, no sub accounts or otherwise. i am the SOLE user. According to the ignorant staff member i spoke to and i quote 'you have activated consoles 60 times in the last week. several ps3's and 2 ps4's' alarmed by this i replied; 'Well clearly that shows evidence of account tampering as i am categorically stating to you that i have only 1 ps4 and 1 ps3 and have only activated devices of any kind once for almost 2 years; That being my ps4. There are no other users on my PS4 or psn account, no friends or family accessing my content in any way. My ps4 is currently listed as not being the primary in my account details. So obviously there is either an error on your end or someone has hacked my account. Could i please gain assistance with shutting down whoever has manipulated my account privelages? So far no unauthorised transactions have been made as i updated my security details almost immediately after this occured. But as this is a recent circumstance i do not feel comfortable about my account security.' the rep was attempting to interrupt me the entire time despite not having a grasp of the full situation. ultimately his response, condescending throughout was: 'As i have just explained several times, your ps4 has been deactivated on one console and activated on another as a primary. As no fraudulent purchases have been made i conclude that no one has tampered with your account and that you have deactivated your console and activated another. You need to have an active connection to the internet to play or use any digital content purchased through PSN, regardless of whether you are the primary user or not. We are going round in circles so unless you have any other questions pertaining to anything that does not relate to this subject or PSN i will have to terminate this call.' Firstly, you do NOT have to have a constant connection to PSN to play your games. This is one of the deciding factors in me actually purchasing this over an x box ( slowly regretting this decision). DRM only takes effect if a SECONDARY ps4 is trying to access content downloaded on the primary with your account. So not only did he attempt to misinform me in order to shut the call down, he outright refused to take my issue further, simply repeating his earlier statement as a default response to pretty much anything i suggested. Secondly. You DO NOT hang up on a customer simply because you personally are refusing to solve the problem. I wasn't rude or inflammatory towards him in any way, which was difficult to accomplish with just how ignorant and stand offish he was behaving ( unacceptable behaviour from someone who represents a company that just received over 600 pounds worth of money from a loyal customer once again). When i asked him if i could speak to a senior staff member or if i could be redirected to another department he simply stated:'I will not be doing that, my decision is final and you will not be able to change your activation for the next 6 months.' when i suggested that it's highly unusual for ANYONE to activate/deactivate multiple consoles 60 times within one week he replied with; 'no that's not unusual at all, either yourself or someone in the household has done this. I am terminating this call.'  Seriously, i have never received such flagrant, atrocious customer service in my life. By some miracle after my 3rd phone call i got through to someone named Arctur who was extremely helpful. Instead of assuming i have 50 consoles he actually used his brain and assessed the details with common sense. he concluded that someone HAD in fact been on my account and had locked me out as the primary user in order to gain access to privelages and ultimately shut down my account entirely. He deactivated the 'fake' ps4. Which according to the rep from before they had no power to do (go figure). And apologised to me personally.  is this the future of SEN? DRM policies convulted to the nth degree, content lock for games i've purchased with MY money unless i am connected to the internet? and customer service staff refusing to adhere to thier own job roles? I don't feel secure enough to even sign in at the moment let alone purchase anything else from this company. I've never experienced such an awful situation as this when i had my ps3. 2 weeks after i purchase my ps4 this happens.  I never paid much credence to all the transcripts online of people having constant problems with PSN and PS4. I just assumed the stories were either over exaggerated or there were just disgruntled customers using twitter as a knee jerk reaction to an interruption in thier service. But after yesterday/today. I really think Sony need to slow down the aggressive marketing wagon and reallocate some funds to hire competent staff members for both thier online security/customer service. If this happens again i will be getting a full refund for this and simply returning to my PS3. I'd rather have a secure last -gen console than a next-gen one that's about as secure as a straw house.  Being inadvertently 'locked 'out of all digital content that belongs to ME due to this issue has me seriously doubting Sony's assurance that the 'always online' ideology will be far from restrictive. If your servers are soo easy to breach, then surely you should allow your customers to verify themselves and thier ps4 through it's serial ID and simply waive the 6 month restriction on deactivation no? Instead i get locked out of my own content for your failings to fix your errors or protect your company from online attacks.i could play anything on my ps3 anytime i wanted, internet connection or no. So whichever way you look at it, this is a step back, not forward.  I truly believe issues like this need widespread coverage so that new customers know exactly what they could potentially be getting into. it's unnacceptable that a decent portion of your consumer base gets ignored just because the majority face no problems.

Is anyone still having this problem? I had a similar experience this afternoon, I was logged out of my system because another PS4 had been logged in with my credetials. I phoned the two people in my family who's PS4s I've logged in on and one had already deleted the account months ago and the other was not at home. When I updated my password it still happened, so I updated my email address aswell, within a minute of updating my email address I receive a PSN message from an account I don't know saying they were named Denis, 10 yrs old and could the please play my games.

  • Building the best CS5 Windows machine for $3000

    Background:
I have CS4 Master Collection and run it on a dual boot XP64 and XP32 machine.  I have the dual boot because I cannot get PPro CS4 to work at all on XP64.  I know, it is not supported.  I have been using Premiere since Version 6 I think.  And of all of the Adobe programs that I use, Premiere (and PPRO) have always been to most troublesome for me.  So this time, I'd like to get some assistance from all of you "hardware gurus" out there who can offer advice and help me get the most bang for my budget and deliver a reliable system for PPro CS5 and the other CS5 programs that I will use.  It may be too early to give great advice at this time since the final versions have not be released.  But maybe someone who has had a pre-released version could help now?  Although I use many of the CS series programs, I pose the question in this forum since PPro has always been the program that has taxed my systems the most and would most often fail.
My uses for the Create Suite:
I am primarily a photographer.  So I use Lightroom 2 (will upgrade to LR3) and Photoshop more than any other programs.  I do extensive editing / retouching of my photos and use many plug-ins.  I also design high end coffee-table books using these tools.   However, I do still do some video editing and high-end compositing using Premiere Pro (mostly still CS3) and After Effects CS4.   I would do more NLE work if PPRo worked better for me.  I need the ability to edit at most three layers of 720P video, mostly acquired by D-SLR's.  I also need to edit standard DV footage.  I tend to use a lot of effects, including 3rd party effects (I am not sure how/if they will work anymore on a 64 bit program?).  I do pretty advanced compositing in AE and customize a lot of AE purchased projects with lots of 3rd party effects (such as the Trapcode suite).  I export video for the web, DVD, and Blu-Ray and hopefully cell phone and other devises down the road.
    Reusable Hardware:
As long as I can still use SATA 3 7200rpm hard drives, I think that I have all of the hard drives that I need.  I also have two 24" DVI monitors that I do not need to replace at this time.  I have a 285 nvidia card, which I believe is the low end of the Mercury line that I can use?  I have a blu-ray burner.  Although I have never built a Windows 7 machine in the past, I think that I should have the ability to assemble the components and install the OS myself.
    Hardware Needed
Given the above, does anyone have any good suggestions for what system or components that I should buy given my budget?  I will definitely need:
Case, Power Supply, Motherboard, Memory, CPU(s), OS (Win 7 64?), ???
    Specific Requirements:
Case:  I can go with a large workstation case or even rack mounted version (I have a standard rack).  Since workstation cases are usually less expensive, I am fine with going this route.  The case should have good air flow and needs to have at least 2 5" bays (3 would be better).  It should be easy to install internal drives into using some sort of sliding rail system like most nice cases have these days.
Motherboard:  I would prefer to have an on-board SATA RAID controller to run Mirroring on my OS Drive(s).  I would like to have at least 6 SATA connectors for , 2 OS drives, 3 DATA drive, 1 Optical Drive.  It should have ample USB2 connectors.  It would be nice to have firewire 400 and 800 too.  PCIexpress Expansion slots for at least one video card and possibly a capture card would also be nice.  A PCI-X 64  bit slot would be nice (I have a AJA card currently unused)  legacy PCI-32 slot as well, especially if it does not have an external firewire connection.  It could have one or two processor connections depending on what I can afford with my budget.  I'd like the board to support at least 16GB of memory, if not 32GB.  I may not be able to afford this much memory at this time, but I'd like this ability for down the road.
If I need to provide more information in order for you to help me, please let me know.  If anyone would like to provide help given my requirements, I would appreciate it.  Thanks in advance!

i only mentioned the EVGA for a DUAL Xeon....  not for a single
my prior experiance with EVGA was not a good one with concern for adding PCI/PCIe cards like raid (intel, Areca,) capture (decklink, Aja)
on the X58 but this was at release time of the X58 which was well over a yr ago now.
they may have fixed the issues. many other boards had this same issue like Intel and Foxconn (who makes Intel)
the Intel board was the worst, even adding a Firewire card would cause it to not boot or blue screen never mind it couldnt work with Intels own raid cards LOL...
i only mentioned EVGA for Dual Xeon as its the only one with overclocking ability and with the ram being locked down @ 1066 i was getting ticked
off at Tyan and Intel. where we could run 1333 previously with the X55xx series.
i think Eric said a bios change has fixed that again however so... Tyan is still what we use for now..or the higher end Intel board.
i have not yet played with the EVGA Xeon board so please do not take this as a recommendation...
on the other hand i despise Super Micro.
as far as the Ram, Harm and a few other seem to like the OCZ. i have had a lot of issues with OCZ.
however it cant be all blamed on OCZ. in all the yrs doing this i have never seen so many ram timing issues in my life.
i use Mushkin redline 1600(7-8-7-24) for overclocking and blackline (8-8-8-24) for non. and the other i like is Corsair.
but even those can have issues with certain boards bios'
its all about how the modules are "tatooed" and how well the XMP profiles are programed!
but it also has to do with the Mobo's bios
its quite a balancing act now with the low voltage (1.5 or 1.65) ram and filling all the slots.
ACPI also has a hand in controlling timings based simply on heat and or voltage use.
so a good board with good voltage control is required.
kinda funny about 4 yrs ago i remember telling my employees, "building systems is starting to get like legos, snap and go. we may be out of jobs here soon"
things were getting easy and everything just worked.
its worse now than ever before.
i dread every new release of a chipset anymore.....

  • ISE 1.2 Active Directory Question

    Hi,
I have a question regarding using Active Directory as an External Identity Source.
Our customer has 4 AD servers in their domain and thus 4 DNS entries for the domain. When I join ISE to the domain DNS resolves to one address and uses that machine to perform the join operation. What happens if the machine subsequently fails - does my ISE node need to leave and then re-join the domain or is this handled by some other method?
    Thanks
    Alan

Assuming that they're part of the same AD domain ISE will learn all of the DCs in the domain and you'll likely find after a while that it has moved to a different DC. We have over 100 DCs in our domain and it works just fine, no intervention is required to get it to connect to a different DC if the one it's connected to disappears.
