Telnet Server in java

Hello!
I am a student and I'm writting my graduate work on the implementation of Telnet protocol in java.
Can anyone please tell me where can I find open source implementation of Telnet server in java, it was easy to find Telnet client but I have trouble finding the server.
Thank you!

Maybe worth checking out (I do not know whether the server side is supported):
http://commons.apache.org/net/
* Jakarta Commons Net* implements the client side of many basic Internet protocols. The purpose of the library is to provide fundamental protocol access, not higher-level abstractions. Therefore, some of the design violates object-oriented design principles. Our philosophy is to make the global functionality of a protocol accessible (e.g., TFTP send file and receive file) when possible, but also provide access to the fundamental protocols where applicable so that the programmer may construct his own custom implementations (e.g, the TFTP packet classes and the TFTP packet send and receive methods are exposed).
Features
Supported protocols are:
FTP/FTPS
NNTP
SMTP
POP3
* Telnet *
TFTP
Finger
Whois
rexec/rcmd/rlogin
Time (rdate) and Daytime
Echo
Discard
NTP/SNTP

  • Telnet server

    hello
    i am doing a telnet server in java, and i need to know how to send the escape keys so that when the user enters the password remotely it is hidden.
    can anybody help me?

    A telnet server has nothing to do with what happens at the client end. The client app does that.
    Now a telnet server could just not echo the characters - but that doesn't stop the client from doing so.
    Or a telnet server could send a different char(s) back for each character. On a CUI screen with curses the correct sequence would do something. But that does require that the client supports a curses configuration.
    As for sending "escape keys" sockets send bytes, not keys, chars, strings, nor anything else. So if you figure out the bytes for what you want to send then that is what you send.
    By the way jakarta commons under 'net' has a telnet component which probably means a server and client component.

  • Telnet to call java server functions

    Hi, I've got the following problem:
    I have a server written in java. I would like to controll that java server by telnetting into it and then issue text commands to it.
    How do I do it? Something like this?
    1. Telnet into the computer that must have a telnet server running.
    2. Start the java server "controll" program with >java serverController ...
    3. Typing commands and read the printouts
    Do I miss something?
    Gil

    Thanks Kaj,
    So you mean that I can just set up a server, and then anyone can use the "telnet" protocoll to connect to it?
    Anyway, I need to use an existing telnet program since I might need to extend to ssh etc in the future. So what I need is a running telnet server which I telnet into, and then from that telnet session make "calls" to the server program
    Joey: The server program IS developed by me.
    I am trying to set up a telnet server on my windows. But it just gives me a stupid text echo window. I want the "text" I write to be forwarded to the command (or the chell in unix). Is it just a matter of the telnet server program? In that case, do you know a free, good, telnet server program from where I can forward the "text" to the command?

  • Using the unix telnet command in java

    I am using Runtime.getRuntime().exec("telnet ......") to excute the telnet command within my java program.
    Basically, I'm writing a program to automate a bunch of processes, and one of them requires the process to be executed in another machine.
    It keeps hanging and never gets to the login portion.
    Am i going about this the right way? Can anyone suggest an alternative?
    Paul

    If you're using Telnet to execute a process in another machine, how about simply writing a socket client instead? Once the connection is made you will simply have to send the commands (user name, wait for response, password, wait for response, command...) that would normally be sent via Telnet.
    A Telnet server is just waiting for anybody to connect to its port (usually 23); it doesn't matter whether it's an 'official' Telnet client or any other program, it's too dumb to tell!
    Chris.

  • Telnet Server -- Read in strings

    I have written a java program that acts as a Telnet server.
    The server asks the client a question with the following code:
    public final class Server extends Thread{
         Server(){
         public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception{
                    new Server();
                    Server.serverSocket = new ServerSocket(12345);
                    Socket connection = Server.serverSocket.accept();
                    connection.setTcpNoDelay(true);
              connection.setSoLinger(false,0);
                    PrintStream pout = new PrintStream(connection.getOutputStream());
                    pout.println("What is your name?");
    }Now I want the server to read in the answer the client writes (in this case, the client would write his name, and the server has to capture this name).
    I use putty to connect to my telnet server.
    Could anyone give me a clue on how to do this?

    I have written a java program that acts as a Telnet server.Not unless it implements the dozens of Telnet RFCs, which this one doesn't even begin to do.
              connection.setSoLinger(false,0);Don't do that.
    PrintStream pout = new PrintStream(connection.getOutputStream());
    pout.println("What is your name?");So here you got the OutputStream from the socket and wrote to it.
    Now I want the server to read in the answer the client writes (in this case, the client would write his name, and the server has to capture this name).So you want to get the input stream from the socket and read from it.

  • Invoking remote IIS server from java

    Hi,
    May I know how to invoke the remote IIS server from java?
    Basically I am designing the administrative tool to start and stop IIS server which is running remote machine.
    Thanks!

    You will need to connect to the remote system using some service other than IIS, since starting IIS is one of your requirements. The usual is to connect using Telnet or SSH. I posted code to connect to a Unix box using Telnet. You could use this to connect to a Windows system that was running a Telnet server.

  • Telnet server sends IAC(255) DONT(254) 37(Authentication)

    Hi,
    I am trying to implement a Telnet client in Java with GUI front end. I am trying to pass the userid and password from the GUI. When I checked for the command sent by the Server, I find that the server sends
    255 254 37. Even if I send IAC WILL 37, the server is not accepting. How do I pass the userid and password from GUI to Telnet Server? Also, I need to notify in the GUI, if the userid and password combination is not correct and many no. of attempts with wrong password was done(so that the password will expire in our server). Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    I have examined that code.
    I will explain the condtion I am facing. The server host to which I am trying to telnet is allowing only a certain no. of wrong password entry. After the limit, it gives message to contact the system administrator to reset the password. So, the user has to contact the sys. admin and reset his/her password to the default ont. Then, using the default password, the user has to login and then enter the new password which will be prompted immediately. Re-confirmation to new password prompt is also provided. I have to provide this facility in my GUI, so that when then password is reset, I have to pop another screen to login using the default password and set the new password. I wondering how to interpret the server's message to re-enter the login information or to contact the server admin. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How do I connect multiple telnet clients to a telnet server in LabVIEW?

    Good afternoon,
    I'm writing a telnet server in LabView 6.1 that needs to handle multiple clients. To do this, I modified the "viserver\runvi.llb" example to use the telnet VI's from the Internet Toolkit instead of the TCP VI's. Then I changed the Open VI Reference to point to my telnet handler. Right now my handler just echoes the characters received from the client.
    My software works ok for the first connection. After the server accepts two or more connections, characters typed in one client get echoed to all clients. In addition, only one client will accept characters at a time. The client accepting input changes randomly every few seconds as characters are entered.
    Has anyon
    e gotten the telnet VI's to run in parallel? Not sure if they are thread-safe or not. If you have some experience with this, I have attached my llb if you think you can help.
    Thanks!

    I don't think there's a problem with the TCP/connection portion of things. My feeling is that the problem is lurking somewhere in the timing of the application, or in the way LabVIEW task scheduling/multitasking is working compared to the way you expect it to work.
    For instance, I'm wondering why you stuck with 25 seconds (25000 ms) as the timeout value for the Telnet Read in Telnet Handler.vi. I assume you're expecting LabVIEW to quickly "sleep" that while loop and move on to check on the while loops of any other Telnet Handler.vi instances that might have been spawned as a result of connection requests from other remote clients.
    Instead, it seems to me (on my system, anyway, with three simultaneous connections active) that LabVIEW is not cyc
    ling through the other Telnet Handler.vi instances as you expect, but is only getting to them to read a byte at a time each time the main loop iterates in response to a byte appearing from the first of the three remote clients.
    If you change the Telnet Read timeout to 50 ms instead, the behavior is closer to what you might expect, but still not perfect.
    Because timing/threading/scheduling is a complicated subject in LabVIEW, I'm going to give LabVIEW the benefit of the doubt and assume it's operating as designed. Maybe someone else can provide more insight into what's happening in this particular case, and whether reentrancy or something else is affecting things.
    One option I would consider if I were in your shoes: program a simpler version of things that mimics Date Server.vi and cycles through a queue of connections to service them without relying on spawning new reentrant instances of a handler VI.
    I realize that your version of things (along with the reentrancy example
    that ships with LabVIEW) is expressly intended to handle this daemon-style situation, but simpler may be better for the purposes of debugging and development ease.

  • How to get  current working directory of the ftp server,in java application

    Hi All,
    I?m FTP?ing the file using java.net.url.
    Here is the snippet of the code:

    int noOfBytesRead;
    while (true)
    //Read the data from the source File into buf
    noOfBytesRead = is.read(buf);
    if (noOfBytesRead <= 0)
    break;
    //Writes the data present in the buf to the target file
    os.write(buf, 0, noOfBytesRead);
    os.close();
    is.close();
    close();
    System.out.println ("The file '"+localfile+"' is Sucessfully FTP'd to '"+targetfile+"'");
    catch (MalformedURLException malExcp)
    System.out.println ("Invalid URL. Error in FTP'ing the file: \""+localfile+"\"");

    urlc = url.openConnection();
    //Get the OutputStream that writes to this connection.
    OutputStream os = urlc.getOutputStream();
    return os;
    Now I need to find what the current directory is when the user logs in with username and password on to the FTP server in java.
    Thanks in Advance.

    as soon as user logs in he is taken to the directory
    "ftproot/pub/abc".
    now If I execute pwd command , is hould be able to
    get to know tht user is under "ftproot/pub/abc"Three respected posters, well two plus me ;-), have just told you otherwise. The information about the current directory is (a) secure and (b) useless to the user, as he can't do anything with it. The user doesn't want to know that at all and you shouldn't try to tell him. And in any case FTP doesn't support it, again for security reasons, so you can't do it.
    Just accept it.

    The JSF version packaged starting in 11.1.2.0.0 has been upgraded to 2.0.
    Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6 support is JSF 1.2.
    Upgrade to JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0.
    With an earlier version of WLS (10.3.4) add the jsf library configuration for the JSF 2.0 library to weblogic.xml with exact-match set to true.

    Hi All,
    I face the following error message in the web browser when I try to run a simple page from JDeveloper:
    500 Internal Server Error java.io.IOException
    The message is the same when I run the Hello World test from the Tutorials project.
    Here is the error stack:

    This is JDeveloper 10.1.3.5.0 from patch p19170592_R12_GENERIC.zip
    The OAF release is 12.2.4
    JDEV_USER_HOME is set to C:\Olivier\R12\jdev1224\jdevhome\jdev
    The .dbc file looks fine.
    I connect successfully to database.
    I tried to reinstall JDeveloper.
    I performed many searches on MOS, OTN, Google, etc...
    I tried to change the Startup Settings (Host Name, IP Address settings) of the Embedded OC4J Server Preferences.
    I am stuck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Olivier

    Hi Peddi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I checked again the .dbc file.
    I downloaded again the file from $INST_TOP/appl/fnd/12.0.0/secure to <JDEV_USER_HOME>\dbc_files\secure
    This file worked fine for JDeveloper for 12.2.3.
    I went again through "Oracle Application Framework Developer's Guide Release 12.2.4 July 2014" but could not find any part related to .dbc file having changed from previous release.
    I tried to comment out the parameter APPS_JDBC_URL in .dbc as per MOS note "Troubleshooting JDeveloper setup for Oracle Applications (Doc ID 357218.1)"
    But I still face the issue.
    According to the note "Configuring JDeveloper For Use With Oracle Applications 11i and R12 (Doc ID 330236.1)", I have added the following debug parameters in the project properties:
    -Djbo.debugoutput=console -Djbo.logging.trace.threshold=9 -Djbo.jdbc.driver.verbose=true -Djbo.jdbc.trace=true
    It generated the following OC4J server detailed log showing more error messages (in red below):
