Temp tablespace and rman

Hi,
Os :aix
Db:11.1
We scheduled archive backup every half hour's by oem.today a archive backup running more than 4 hours. The temp free space less than 5%.Our temp size 1TB.
Does the temp space needed while doing rman backup?
Thanks & Regards,
VN

Dear All,
I am not giving the solution to your quires asked in the thread.
But have a problem related to RMAN.
The issue is very uncertain.
I am freeing up log_arch_dest by rman script where 48 parallel channel being used.
My temp table space is around Temp01= 900GB and Temp02 =500GB
when Rman script starts my DB performance degraded and RAM 177GB used 100% and Paging shoot up from 10% to 45% (Total paging is 60GB)
The operation gets complete in 40mins only but nothing is running else than this script.
i have some limitations.
1- Can't decrease RMAN channel
2- RMAN script is running after every 08 hours due to space issues on the log_arch_dest.
3- SGA = 28G, PGA = 24 G , shared pool reserved size = 815 M
Please let me know how I can get rid of this issue of high paging and low performace

  • Relation between temp tablespace and index creation

    Hi,
I have my Oracle database (11gR1) on windows 2008 server R1 64 bit..
This is my development database. i have one table which has more than 2 billion rows , the problem i m facing here is while creating the index on this table i m getting temp segment error , while my temp tablespace size is 32 gb.
    Here my doubt is :
1.What will happen in temp tablespace when index is created ? Relation between temp and index creation ?
    2. how to create the index on a huge table?
    3. What is the meaning og logging and no logging in INDEX creation .
    4. how can we over come for these kind of problem and manage the temp TS..
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vikash Chauradia

    add another tempfile?
1.What will happen in temp tablespace when index is created ? Relation between temp and index creation ?
index creation needs sort. how much depends on the size of the index.
    2. how to create the index on a huge table?
create an interim (temporary? :)) huge temporary space for the very purpose.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/indexes003.htm#i1006643
    3. What is the meaning og logging and no logging in INDEX creation .
nologging means you the creation isnt in the logs so if you need to recover you cant get back to it. when using nologging in a prod env you might do it for performance during a period of heavy dml such as a large index creation and then backup afterwards. common enough.
    4. how can we over come for these kind of problem and manage the temp TS..
    current tempspace size =X
is X big enough? if yes, cup of tea, if no, make X bigger.
It doesnt matter what X is.

  • Restored coldbackup and having trouble with TEMP tablespace

Hi, i succesfully restored from a coldbackup on solaris.(oracle 9.2)
i can log on to database using toad, query the database, but when i try to take an export or something i got the error
    EXP-00056: ORACLE error 1157 encountered
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 203 - see DBWR trace file

    ORA-06512: at line 1
    EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
when i did the restore, i simply renamed the datafiles and redo logs.
But i didnt rename the TEMP datafile, as you can not rename it with a "alter database rename file ..." command
    so thats the problem!
i planned to create a new default temp. tablespace, and simply make it default and drop the other one. but it does not work!
    i tried to execute:
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp4 TEMPFILE '/oracleAS/TPRS/oradata/TPRS/temp4.dbf' SIZE 5M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 1M MAXSIZE unlimited
    EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 1M;
    create temporary tablespace temp01 tempfile '/oracleAS/TPRS/oradata/TPRS/temp01.dbf' size 100M;
but they all hang! i wait, but nothing happens! (and alert log does not log anything too)
and finally i tried to drop the default tablespace, and i couldnt drop it as i thought. (ORA-12906: cannot drop default temporary tablespace
So, im stuck and i beleive i have to RENAME the datafile for temporary tablespace. how can i do this?

  • How to exclude UNDO and temp tablespace using monitoring template

    hi,
as per MOS note id 816920.1 undo and temp tablespace is excluded from monitoring starting version 11G onwards. It says that thresholds will need to be explicitly set if undo and temp needs to be monitored
we have grid 12C implemented now with monitoring templates which sets thresholds for all tablespaces. does it apply that thresholds to undo and temp too?? we are receiving alerts for undo and temp tablespaces and we wish to disable them. We have undo tablespaces with different names in many databases as per naming conventions for that line of business.
How can i exclude undo and temp tablespaces from monitoring using grid 12C monitoring templates. is there a way through templates where i can set thresholds of permanent tablespaces only???

In EM12c, go to the 'Enterprise' menu, then 'Job', then 'Library'. There should be an out-of-the-box job called "DISABLE TABLESPACE USED (%) ALERTS FOR UNDO AND TEMP TABLESPACES" that you can run against your database targets, and that job will disable database-generated alerts.
If a previous admin has set up EM12c-generated alerts for undo and temp, then yes, a monitoring template will take care of disabling them. Either remove those alerts from the existing monitoring template and apply them to your targets, or create a new monitoring template based on one database's current settings, remove those warning/critical thresholds for your undo and temp tablespaces, and apply it to your targets.

  • DROP and RECREATE TEMP TABLESPACE

    Hey,
is it ok just to drop the TEMP tablespace and recreate it?
Will data get lost? Will developers kill me if I do? ;o)
    Can i reuse the datafile?
Is it possible to change name on the tablespace?
    Thanks
    Kjersti

Hey there is absolutely no problem. Only ensure that only system is logged on and no other user is using the database. Best thing is to shut down the database and restart in restricted session and then create the temp tablespace. give tempfile instead of datafile.

  • How to create temp files in temp tablespace

    Dear all,
Due to outage of our SAN, we our out of production for the
last 3 days. By the grace of Almighty we have restored production by
database recovery from our standby backup. Since temp tablespace and
temp data files do not taken as backup for standby, now after recovery
we are getting abap dumps asking for temp_1 and temp_2 datafiles.
Please guide us how to create temp files. v$tablespace is showing tablespace PSAPTEMP but datafile are not there
Abap dumps are giving these errors as mentioned below

if you want to add a new tempfile to your TEMP Tablespace, you can do like that.
    <i>ALTER TABLESPACE</i> <<b><u>name of TEMP Tablespace</u></b>> ADD TEMPFILE <<b><u><b><u>pfad to the file_and_file name</u></b></u></b>> <b>SIZE</b> <size>;
    You can use also the options <i>REUS</i>E <i>autoextend off</i> or <i>on</i> .
    e.g:
    <i>alter tablespace</i> <u><b>PSAPTEMP</b></u> add <i>tempfile</i> <b><u>'/oracle/SD1/sapdata4/temp_2/temp.data2'</u></b> <i>SIZE 1000K</i> <i>REUSE</i>;
    The directory <b><u>temp_2</u></b> should exist.
Or you can use the BR*Tools to create a new datafile. Enter brtools and follow the instructions or menu.
More to TEMP Tablespaces see please following SAP notes:
    <u><b>659946</b></u> - FAQ: Temporary tablespaces

  • Need help on extending my TEMP tablespace (Ora ver - 8.1.7.0.0)

    Hi
I am having problem in executing the SQL query with certain parameters in the WHERE clause.

ORA-27069: skgfdisp: attempt to do I/O beyond the range of the file
OSD-04026: Invalid parameter passed. (OS 524247)
I get the above listed error. And i assumed there may be some issue due to Temp tablespace. I also verified the space occupied by the TEMP tablespace and it was 99% occupied.
Kindly let me know is there a way to extend the space without affecting the existing DB content
    Regards
    Srinivasan B

Didn't you got a answer in your Getting error while executing the SQL ( ver 8.1.7.0.0), did you ?
Furthermore, don't worry about the TEMP tablespace utilization, Oracle doesn't freed space until you need it. By the way, how your TEMP tbs is defined (AUTOEXTEND, DATAFILE/TEMPFILE...) ?
Anyway, you have to be sure about the free space on your device. And check on metalink website to get some notes advices.

  • Temporary Tablespace and transactions

    Hi.
I have a query regarding temp tablespace ,
I am on 10gR2 version. with ONE TEMP tablespace and having one tempfiles.
    temp Tablespace TEMP1 = temp01.dbf (1 GB)
+ Let say I have executed a query-1 from Scott user , its runs for 30 min and let assume its consumed 900MB of tempspace during its completion .
+ And another query -2 from scott or another user fired ( let say Query 1 started earlier than Query 2 ) . and it needs around 500MB of tempspace
    == MY Question is
Q .1 ) Will the Second Query waits until Query 1 completion ? As we have only one Temp file over here . IF both started executing both Queries will hit unable o extend temp space error .
    - Please provide your inputs and corrections.
    -Thanks.

TEMP Tablespace size : 1GB NO AutoExtend
    First Query uses 900MB
Second Query starts using space and will eventually need 500MB space
Both queries will concurrently be allowed to use Temp Space
If the first query completes before the second query usage hits 100MB, it will release all 900MB for usage by the second query.
If the first query hasn't completed and is at 900MB, the second query will error out when it attempts to go beyond 100MB.
If the first query needs more than 900MB and the second query has used 100MB -- i.e. both are growing in usage -- any one of the two queries wil fail.
NOTE : If Resumable Space Allocation has been enabled either by setting RESUMABLE_TIMEOUT or by ALTER SESSION ENABLE RESUMABLE, the queries will not fail if the TEMP Tablespace is resized within the timeout period. Else, beyond the timeout, either of the queries will fail.

  • PDB without local TEMP Tablespace

Due to the Oracle Database 12c Concepts Guide it should be possible to create a PDB without a local TEMP Tablespace and the create PDB syntax includes the option (MAX_SHARD_TEMP_SIZE).
But I cannot find any hint how to create a PDB without a TEMP Tablespace or how to change the default temp tablespace to point to the CDB:
    Any help will be appreciated.

There is no standard way to create a PDB without a TEMP tablespace
Yes - there is. But you CLEARLY don't want to do things the standard way. You want to use some particular non-standard way.
It is not 'standard' to create a database without a temporary tablespace. That is almost ALWAYS a mistake. That generally happens when you use the CREATE DATABASE command and don't specify it properly.
When you create a database you do NOT have to create a temporary tablespace. That has been the RULE from the very beginning and it is still true for 12c. For proof see the DBA Guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/server.121/e17636/create.htm#i1009290
    Creating a Default Temporary Tablespace
The DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE clause of the CREATE DATABASE statement creates a default temporary tablespace for the database. Oracle Database assigns this tablespace as the temporary tablespace for users who are not explicitly assigned a temporary tablespace.
You can explicitly assign a temporary tablespace or tablespace group to a user in the CREATE USER statement. However, if you do not do so, and if no default temporary tablespace has been specified for the database, then by default these users are assigned the SYSTEM tablespace as their temporary tablespace. It is not good practice to store temporary data in the SYSTEM tablespace, and it is cumbersome to assign every user a temporary tablespace individually. Therefore, Oracle recommends that you use the DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE clause of CREATE DATABASE.
You don't have to believe me or the docs.
Try it yourself. That is the best way to learn. Post your results here for all to see.
That is what that 12c doc says and what ALL of the docs for the versions before say. See for yourself. Here is the doc link for Oracle 7.3 so you can see the CREATE DATABASE systax yourself
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/A57673_01/DOC/server/doc/SQL73/ch4a.htm#createdatabase
Without a temp tablespace Oracle is forced to use the SYSTEM tablespace for the temporary.
    These are the STANDARD ways:
    1. Create PDB with a temporary tablespace.
    2. Use the DBCA with a custom template
    3. Create your own PDB seed database without a temp tablespace and then clone your seed to create other PDBs without a temp tablespace
    4. Use CREATE DATABASE to create a DB without a temp tablespace and then plug it in to your CDB root container.
Those are ALL standard methods. The last three result in PDBs withoug a temp tablespace.
#1 is what you should be using.
    1. Create PDB with a temporary tablespace.
    2. Shrink/resize the temp tablespace down to a minimum if you want
    3. Assign the users to the CDB temp tablespace if you don't want them using the PDB temp
I would appreciate if you only answer to questions if you have tested it or have a precise answer to it!
I have done BOTH of those things. Your failure to recognize that is NOT my problem.
I have created a PDB without a temp tablespace using DBCA and a custom template.
I have also created a PDB without a temp tablespace by using the historical standard method of CREATE DATABASE  without a temp tablespace and then plugging it into the CDB and a PDB.
It is YOUR responsibility to RTFM and YOUR responsibility to actually put your fingers on the keyboard and try things.
The forum is NOT a coding service so you have no right to expect someone to write code for you and no right to get upset if they don't.
dbca doesn't use any other commands than the one's I've already tried!
Your reality is different than Oracle's. Support your reality with some facts.
I just created a PDB (create pluggable database) and no wonder that one comes with a temp tablespace.
I don't see where you posted ANYTHING that shows:
    1. exactly WHAT you did
    2. exactly HOW you did it
    3. exactly what results you got.
If you want help with the code or a process you are using you have to POST that code or process.
We can NOT see your computer screen to see what screens you see or what entries you make.
Complain about the messenger all you want.
But you will NOT be successful with 12c if you refuse to RTFM and refuse to try things yourself. Making unsubstantiated statements or trying to attack me may make you feel better but you won't learn anything from it.

  • TEMP tablespace increasing

I have a problem with storage space of my default temporary table space.
For my application, I specified the default table space as "DEFTBSPACE" with size 4000MB and temporary table space as "TEMP" with size 14486MB. Now, my usage of my temporary table space is increasing rapidly (Now, the used temp tablespace is 14485MB almost 99.99%). What could be the reason..? Is there any thing going into TEMP tablespace by mistake?.
    Please help.
    Reagrds,
    Satish.

Can we deallocate manually the data file or a part of the datafile so that the usage space is reduced. What's the solution to reduce the usage space of this TEMP tablespace. If you bounce the db, you will get all used space.
I heared, dropping and recreating the TEMP tablespace is the only the solution for this..??Is it true?
    Yes it is absolutely true.
Create another temp tabelspace and set as default temp tablespace and drop the previous one. However, make sure no one is currently using that temp tablespace.
The reason that you haven't get any result query v$sort_usge is that no one is using temp currently.
    You can also use v$tempseg_usage.

  • Reducing Temp Tablespace

    Hi,
I need some help with the temp tablespace on an express edition. I have an express edition running under windows 2003 Server and the temp tablespace has increased very large (>4 GB). I have tried to reduce the datafile with 'alter database datafile 'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\TEMP.DBF' resize 2048M;' but I always get the message 'FEHLER in Zeile 1:
ORA-01516: Nicht vorhandene Log-Datei, Datendatei oder temporΣre Datei
'C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\TEMP.DBF' even if the path is correct (I have verified it many times).
Is there an possibility to reduce the temp tablespace or is the only possibility to create a new default temp tablespace and delete the old one. If I create a new temp tablespace, can I use the maxsize option?
Many thanks in advance for all your help.
    Kind regards
    Luis Varon

create a new default temp tablespace and delete the old one.Yes, do that.
can I use the maxsize option? You can, but even better, do not specify AUTEXTEND ON (OFF is the default).
