Temperature Graph of Week 17 MacBook Pro

Here is a screenshot BEFORE applying the thermal paste:
http://web.mac.com/phil.angell

I am assuming there is no way to show any other temps apart from hard disk and CPU with Hardware Monitor ??
If anyone wants to send me their graphs I will gladly upload them for comparison purposes. Then we can have a single repository for temps etc...
How to make graphs ?
1. Download Hardware Monitor from here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24043
2. Open hardware Monitor and then Window/Show History Windows
3. Use the yes > /dev/null in 2 terminal windows
4. Let it run for 10 mins or so
5. Open Grab in Utilities in OSX
6. Get a Window grab and save
7. Send it to me at [email protected] but tell me before or after grease change, what the model is (15" 2.0), week number and I will add it to the site.

  • Week 34 MacBook Pro, whine still there?

I just got my replacement Week 34 MacBook Pro (week 32 one was physically damaged on arrival). I've been noticing a slight buzzing noise when the AC adapter is plugged in and it goes away when I open Photo Booth. However it is nowhere as loud as I remember the original whine issue being with my first macbook pro before it was stolen. Has anyone else experienced this?

mine has a slight cpu whine even after mlb replacement. Plugged or not. Sure it is quieter than before but still there. I am thinking to send back my MBP for repair again but my question is is there any unit with no cpu electric whine at all ? i don't want to risk another repair and have the same result at the end.

  • Replacing my 2 week old Macbook Pro.

i've had my MacBook Pro for about 2 weeks now
within the first week i noticed problems with my display, well lid.
it has bubbles on the top of the lid, the edge of the screen is popped out, and the lid won't close evenly
now, if i go to an Apple Store and tell them my problems with a 2 WEEK OLD MACBOOK PRO,
will they replace my current MacBook Pro? or will they just replace the screen?
and i do have Apple Protection Plan for 3 years..

well is it possible for them to fix it there?
oh and how long could that take for them to send it to apple?
sorry if im in anyway pushy or something
its just this is my first macbook pro and i dont want to be going back and forth to the apple store whch is an hour away from me.. thank you

  • My 1 week old macbook pro battery is dying.

my 1 week old macbook pro battery is dying. i charged it to 100% then went to bed and this morning it is at 32% when turned on. What the heck?

my light does not flash in sleep mode.
Which means it isn't sleeping. Run the Console and put the computer sleep. Experiement with the sleep command and closing the lid. Does it sleep with the sleep command but not the lid? Does it not sleep in either case. In the Console, by default, you'll see all the messages that are logged. Pay attention to when you close the lid or execute the sleep command and pay attention to the log entries that occur at that time and shortly afterwards. You might find a sleep terminated type message which will give you a clue about why it isn't sleeping.
There are also programs that are known to cause insomnia. At the head of my list are all it one printer software because the drivers often constantly look for an incoming fax or the keypress from the AIO printer console.
One more thing - if you have been putting it to sleep and then disconnecting USB or FireWire devices - that's the problem.

  • 3 week old Macbook Pro 2011 now has dot in middle of screen?

I bought my Macbook pro 2011 Hi-res 15" Glossy - Configured to Order  3 weeks ago from the Apple Online Store. After installing and playing a game this week, I notice that a grey dot appeared in the middle of the screen, especially noticeable when browsing on safari, with a white background.
Is this a dead pixel or stuck pixel? what should I do? What can Apple do?

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, take your Mac in for evaluation and ask. We are just fellow users, so we can't speak for Apple.
Pixel problems are a judgement call--Apple will determine what should be done on a case by case basis. If Apple determines that the display is unsatisfactory because of this flaw, you might possibly get a replacement display, especially since your problem is in the center.
    Good luck!

  • 2 week old MacBook Pro not charging

I bought a MacBook Pro only 2 weeks ago, and to my surprise, I am already having problems with it. Although the top tool bar shows the battery as charging, and it doesnt lose power while the power cord is connected, it is not charging. The battery power is stuck at 27%, unless I unplug the cord, which obviously causes the power to drain.
Why wont my brand new MacBook Pro charge?

    > Why wont my brand new MacBook Pro charge?
Reset the PMU (power management unit) and re-calibrate the Battery ?
If this fails to make any difference call Apple.

  • 1 week old macbook pro 17 keeps freezing randomly?

Hi,  I just bought a 17 inch 2011 early winter macbook pro a week ago and I upgraded my computer with the lion the second day. My problem started the third day of the purchase i started noticing lag in the beggining especially when i open the appstore the beach ball comes up and won't ever go away.yesterday my computer been freezing randomly i've been restarting it whenever this happens The freezes happen most frequently after the computer has been to sleep and woken up by opening the lid.. I have downloaded all the apple updates and my apps are all up to date I dont have anything on the startup,I have 690 gb free on my hard drive  I tried:     - deleting apps from running on the startup  - no widgets  - Stopping Bluetooth and wireless  - not opening i tunes  Nothing worked. I really don't know what to do,this is the first time i use mac.please help.

I would prefer to have acopy on Lion on a Flash memory or a DVD in order not to redownload it every time again. I guess you didn't take a copy of it after downloading from App Store and proceeded to install directly, right?
Ok, if that was the case,
    - Open the App Store again, click on purchased icon on the top, you will find the Lion as installed..
    - Click on purchased again while holding down options key (alt), the INSTALLED botton will be replaced by INSTALL botton.
    - Click it and wait untill in downloads againg.
    - After finishing download don't proceed in installing it again using the wisard. Quit the installer and go to the Applications folder, find "Install Mac OS X Lion.app", right click and select show packge contents and go to "/Contents/SharedSupport/installESD.dmg".
This is the image disk of Lion, use Disk Utility "Spotlight it" to burn it on a DVD so will have a bootable DVD which can be used to reinstall your autherized copy of lion.
    - Restart your machine while holding Options key to get the boot options.
    - Select the DVD, a Disk utility will appear again, use it to erase the Macintosh HD and reinstall Lion again

  • 1-Week-Old Macbook Pro won't turn on.

About a week after I bought it, my Macbook Pro unexpectedly shut off while I was watching a video, and would not turn back on.  When I tried to turn it back on, I got the buzz and the little white light, but there was no chime, nothing on the screen, and no keyboard lights.  After about ten minutes, it turned back on normally.  I bought it on Amazon (Macbook Pro MD 102LL/ 13.3" [Newest Version]), and I'm wondering what is going on here.  Does this imply inherent damage to the hardware?  Should I return it now and save myself the headache?  If anyone has seen this before, has it recurred? Any imput or feedback would be appreciated.  Thank you all!

    Take it in for service.

  • Glitches and visual issues on 3 week old MacBook Pro - size issues as well. Can Apple help?

I ordered my Macbook Pro in September 2012. I received it in the mail on September 14, 2012. For the past week and a half, there have been visual glitches, as well as keyboard twitching on-screen (garbled/slow typing on screen). This is a brand new computer, and no damage has occurred to it at all. This was very expensive, and I want a quality product. Will Apple repair or replace the device?
Also - I ordered the 15 inch model, and have found out that it is too large for me. Is it possible to switch this model for the 13 inch model instead? (Although the return period is over?)
    Thanks

We''re just as good as you for guessing answers to question #1. Only "normal" everyday Mac users here, no official Apple presence (except for the invisible censor that will strike inappropriate posts unseen). Make good use of your one-year base warranty.
As for question #2, I think you've answered it yourself. Had a 14 days no-questions-asked return period that was squandered, Apple will offer no further respite. Will have to sell it on the classifieds of the local rag, eBay, Craigslist, whatever, recoup what you can and try again. Is why there are so many points of sale nowadays where you can go play with the toys before plonking down the cash.

  • One week old Macbook Pro 17" fuzzy green screen

I have had my Macbook Pro 17" for one week and enjoying it. When I awakened it from sleep, it had fuzzy green lines throughout the display. After browsing the internet for about an hour the fuzzy green lines disappeared and then reappeared randomly. Any suggestions about why this is happening and how to fix this. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This sounds like it could be a hardware problem of some sort. Best thing would be to take it to an Apple Store for evaluation. Since it's only a week old, you may be able to get an exchange rather than a repair.
    Good luck!

  • I have an 11 week old Macbook Pro that has 15 charge cycles and the design capacity is at 91%, is that normal or should I take my laptop into the store?

Hi, everyone I'm just wondering whether my battery life is normal. I've only had this macbook pro for a few weeks. According to coconut battery, as well as the information under about this macbook. The macbook is 11 weeks old and after 15 charge cycles it is at 91% design capacity? Is this normal or do I have a faulty macbook?

The batteries are supposed to hold 80% at 1,000 charges now - not sure when this started but was a couple of years ago maybe.
Personally I would not worry too much. If you actually notice a signigicantly bad drop in battery life after some time, instead of just by looking at numbers on charts, then yes take it to Apple, but for now, just enjoy your computer.
After more charge cycles, it may become more accurate too - when I first got my MacBook Air it was on about 94% after only 15 charges or so, now it's on about 620 and is on 84% or so which is on par with the 1000 charges -> 80%.

  • Replacing 3 weeks old MacBook Pro for new model

Well i purchased a MacBook Pro 13" just three weeks ago and now there is a new model launched which is of the same cost now i want to change my MacBook for the new one so how can that be possible??
will i have to pay more because i got mine for same cost just three weeks ago...
    Will be waiting for reply

You've passed the 14-day 'no questions asked' return policy so your best best would just to be to sell on eBay or some other online retailer that takes 'used' computer equipment (though your best bet is eBay).
    Sorry,

  • Kernel Panics in ***TWO*** Week 21 MacBook Pros

An informational note / user experience:
I purchased a new MBP last week from the Apple Store in Novi, Michigan. Nice folks, actually. Took it home, transferred data from old iBook G4. No problem. Ran Software Update (wirelessly); machine kernel panics in 5 minutes. Oops. Must have picked up some bad settings from the ol' G4... After 6 consecutive kernel panics, all while running SW Update, I wiped the HD and reinstalled OS from the restore discs. SW Update w/ fresh system: Panic City.
Back to the Apple Store. They claim no knowledge of this issue ("We sell lots of 'em; very few come back.") Ran SW Update in front of the "Genius" at the bar, on their wireless... KP'd again. Left machine with them for three hours; they tried to diagnose but they came up mystified, and finally agreed to replaced my 48 hour-old machine.
Took the new machine home, opened box, booted up, ran SW update... and KP again. Back into the box it went (the charger was unused -- still in the plastic wrap!), and back to the store we went. Same runaround with a different "Genius." Dude, you really need to check out this issue at apple.com -- this is a significant problem with these machines. Response: "You can't always trust the Apple forums." Okay, then let's run SW Update on your network... and down we went. Sooooo..... back went the machine, printer, AppleCare, etc. for a full refund, no open-box fee charged.
My final advice to the Apple Store: "You have a problem with Week 21 machines (both of mine were W21's). Get on line and check it out -- your users know what's going on, and you do not."
Oh, yeah: I WILL be back -- but I'll wait until the bugs are out of the current hardware. My 4 other Macs have NEVER KP'd, except for a single defective RAM chip when my G4 imac was two years old.
I know that some folks who've hard networked their MBP's have reported no issues, but for me, a laptop that can't handle a network connection without crashing is absolutely useless.
My thanks go to all in this forum who've taken the time to write and describe their issues -- I was an informed customer and user because of you.
Cupertino: We Have a Problem. Fix it.

When I originally began this thread some weeks ago, I said that I would be checking back to update the situation.
Last week, I purchased a 15.4” MBP from the nice folks at the Apple Store (Somerset Mall, Troy, MI). This machine is a Week 27 build. I added another 512 KB of RAM to the bill, and installed it myself. This machine has the matte display.
As with the last machine I purchased, I brought this one home, booted up, logged into my Linksys WRT-54G and ran SW updates via wireless. No problem. I then transferred my account info (including apps.) from my 3-year old iBook G4 using Migration Assistant, figuring this would be a fairly brutal test of the machine’s ability to handle older PPC software and settings.
For the past week, I have pounded on this machine with every combination of software application(s) and wireless communication possible. Bottom Line: Flawless performance. Other machine attributes: Very little fan noise, no “moo,” click, or anything else. Speakers, even the RH one, sound fine. Heat is fine – the bottom does heat up more than the iBook G4, but I had expected this with the thin profile and metal case. It is certainly not enough to cause discomfort to any but the most sensitive laps. Wireless reception is okay, but in fact not quite as good as the iBook – perhaps this is a reasonable price to pay for a metal case.
I have NOT had so much as one kernel panic or other strange hiccup from this machine.
So… what have I learned from the experience and this discussion folder?
    1. Apple built some bad laptops in 2006.
    2. The latest machines (week 27) appear to be just fine, thank you.
    3. Apple’s store personnel stood behind their product and refunded my $ from the first purchases, once I proved to them (inconveniently, BTW), that their machine was to blame.
    4. Nobody at either of the two Apple Stores in SE Michigan knew how to tell the build date of a computer(!). Over the past month, I received various degrees of resistance from Sales personnel when I said I wanted a week 25 or newer machine. Responses ranged from “we can’t bother to check the date – if there’s a problem with the machine, we will fix it” to “no problem, but how do I know without opening the box?”
I am finally a satisfied customer. I had to wait longer than necessary for what I expected to work right the first time, and I had to educate a few sales people about their own product, but all’s well that ends well. I wish Apple better success in “getting it right the first time” next time.
Thanks again to all in this folder for contributing their experiences.

  • NOrmal Temperature and Fan Speed of MacBook Pro 13

Hi,what`s the Normal Temperature and Fan speed of MBP 13 during idle and when browsing or something?...please help..

The notional idle speed for the fan is 2000 rpm. If you turn it on you'll get about that and a temp of about 36 degrees in a cool room if you don't do anything. Opening a browser over wireless and say streaming a TV programme from the BBC will push the fan up to over 3000 rpm and the temp up to 60 degrees or so. Fan will drop to about 2400 rpm and temp to 53 degrees with gentle browsing.
Or that's what I get with a 2.53GHz 4GB memory machine. I took the 250GB disk out as it was noisy and put in a 120GB one that came from a Mac Mini so that may use a bit less power. (And the 2GHz Mac Mini has a rock solid 1500 rpm fan and rarely gets hotter than about 65 degrees - this has similar components to the Macbook Pro and so shows what a slightly bigger air access can do I guess).
The fan is rather faster and more noticeable than I was expecting with the Macbook, but the most noise came from the Toshiba disk which has now been banished to an external enclosure.

  • 2 week old MacBook Pro doesn't charge.

My 2 week old 13" MacBook Pro won't charge, I worked on it until my battery was completely depleted.
Now when I connect my charger it won't charge, also the LED doesn't light up.
Is my 2 week old charger broken?
