Template Mess
Hi everyone, this is my very first post.
I am creating a site with potentially around 1114 pages.
I have started using templates in dreamweaver for the first time and I have run into a small problem (i hope it's small).
I began the template to create the 8 main pages that link to the 8 items on the menu bar. No probs so far.
Then I went back to make my home page and this is where the problems started.
I used another .dwt to create my index page. Now when I try to access the home page from any page created from the first dwt it will not pull up the index page created from the second dwt. I have updated the first dwt with the correct link to index.htm (what I called my home page created from dwt2) but dreameaver will not pull up the index.htm whenever I try to access the link through a page created from dwt1.
I know I just repeated myself. I know I know....but can anyone help?One possible fix I have thought of is to turn the 2nd dwt (home page) into just a plain old htm file. Maybe then pages creted from dwt1 will call up the index.htm and display it to screen.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am looking into PHP and how I can use it to create the site.
There are three or 4 static designs and the multitude of pages are, as you correctly summised, made up of varying content inserted into those designs.
I have started looking into coldfusion as a method of calling up the content from a database to automatically insert into the page designs but have run into some problems installing and setting up CF.
I think I need to go and look further into the capabilities of PHP.
I have a webserver setup using Apache and have installed PHP and MySQL during the process of setting up the web server.
The design and content is all ready so I am hoping PHP will be the answer to propogating the 1000+ product pages.

New pages made From Template messed up!
Hello,
I have made a template that is not yet finished... I decided
to test it out, but when I make new pages from it, the formatting
is messed up (in any new pages that I create from the template).
This of course is happening prior to uploading to the pages... (I
need to make many different pages from the template but cannot
proceed because of this...)
If I preview the new ‘messed up’ page in Safari
(that is by clicking the Preview button in Dreamweaver itself), it
is almost OK, but the background image does not show up. Could
anyone suggest what I might need to do to get the ‘new’
page to appear fine in Dreamweaver itself.
I am new to Dreamweaver and have just started with it since
moving from GoLive...

If it would be considered a bug, then many programs would
have it! As a
general rule of thumb, it's best to avoid any characters in
your
file/pathnames other than letters, numbers, and
hyphens/underscores. That
would eliminate spaces, quotes, ampersands, parentheses, etc.

It should appear, so there must be something wrong in the
resulting code.

Horiz Menu Bar (in a template) Messed up on PHP page; Only in IE Browser
I have redesigned a fairly large website for someone (I'm using DW CS3) and I developed a template which includes a Spry Horizontal Menu Bar. The menu bar was working fine on all of the HTML pages. As I come to the end of my project, I have created a PHP page (using my template with the horizontal menu bar) because I have included a PHP script for an Events Calendar (ComDevWeb). Ever since I added the includes for the calendar, the horizontal menu bar gets messed up when viewing the page with IE. The menu bar looks fine on all of the other html pages. The menu bar on the PHP page also looks fine when I view it with Safari or Mozilla. Since the menu bar is in the template (that will affect every other page that is working just fine), I'm not sure how to proceed with my troubleshooting.

Template looks good, but when updating or creating new pages fonts and colors are wrong. Scanned for problems like viruses and the folder is clean. Not an html person so utterly lost and frustrated. Checked properties and the only things that seems wrong is Headings, I correct the colors and save, but they are still wrong when I create or update a page.
I reloaded the pages from the site back to my computer using FTP so they are good. It has to be a program issue. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

It would help a great deal if you could provide us a link to your site after uploading it. It isn't very clear from your email about the colors that you require and what exactly goes wrong. Being explicit will help the experts here understand and solve your problem.

Hi all,
I made a template for writing invoices.
However, the cells formatted with € are automatically turned into £ when I open the template.
Does anybody know how to remedy this ?

As Ashka explained yesterdays in an other thread, may you try to leave the cell as "automatic" and enter the € from the keyboard or from the Character palette.
In this table, Numbers is running in French on a French system.
in column B cells are set to "currency" format.
In column C cells are set to "automatic" and I inserted the £ symbol by hand in row 2 and 3
In column D cells are set to "automatic" and I inserted the ¥ symbol by hand in row 2 and 3
in row 5, the formulas are:
=SUM(B2:B3)
=SUM(C2:C3)
=SUM(D2:D3)
(I disabled the feature using column names in formulas so formulas are shorter)
As you may see, in the columns C and D, the "addedbyhand" currency symbol is taken in account and the values are treated as numbers.
The only problem I met is with $.
When I insert one, it is moved to the right when it is assumed to be on the left and the decimal comma used here is interpreted as a digit separator so 12,34 is displayed as 1 234$.
I assumes that it is a "not too odd" behaviour because the parser is forced to arbitrate between the $ rules and the system settings.
I repeat, I didn't discovered this feature. It's Ashka which passed it in an other thread. So thank you Ashka.

could creat sub pages based on it. as soon as i changed the file
format to a template, the floating divs which are supposed to mimic
a two column layout, and both extend to the same height, are no
longer the same height.

There is no conflict between DW templates and external
stylesheets.
Remember, templates are not about layout - they are about
content. The
layout is dependent on the methods you use to build the page,
and template
markup has no impact on that.
The question is relevant to the PVII tools and should be
asked on their
support forum.

I have been working on a servlet oriented project for some time now,
and have run into a creativity deficiency problem. The problem is, that
I cannot think up a generic enough templating system to separate the
display data from the application data.
Here is the basic flow of my program:
Netscape -> BridgeServlet -> SQLCommandList -> BridgeConnector -> Database -> Template -> BridgeServlet -> Netscape
If that is not to crude, you can see that the servlet is activated
and then it looks up the SQL command by the name passed to it through
HttpServletRequest.getAttribute(java.lang.String). Then upon locating the
command( a java.sql.PreparedStatement ) it binds the command and
executes it returning a java.sql.ResultSet. Then it looks up the template
data whose name is also passed through the servlet URL, binds the template
data with the java.sql.ResultSet data finally passing the bound data through the
HttpServletResponse.getOutputStream().
A common template looks like this:
<% prefix="<a href=servlet?$1=*" suffix=">*</a>" response="second_comm" %>
The above line would be read in through a stream and have the stars (*) replaced
by the current element of data retrieved from the database table.
Which is pretty much all working at this point.
But, is there a better, cleaner, more intuitive way I could achieve this templating
mess. The problem is, that the whole project it based around just letting the
SQL and HTML personnel take over and manage the web site without the constant
consultation of a Java programmer experienced in servlets. But I am having problems
with the fact that I don't know how many rows will be returned and I have know
way of wrapping HTML around the individual fields of data retrieved from the table.
i.e..
I can create an HTML representation of an SQL query easily
with a java.lang.StringBuffer. But how can I make a dynamic link around
each record returned, or for that matter make a dynamic link around each
element inside the record?
The above templating structure is so complicated they might as well just be typing
JavaScript. I am trying to stay away from using JavaBeans/JSP/EJB if it is possible.

EBS 12.1.3 unable to restart after a successful installation
Hi all,
I've installed the EBS 12.1.3 template following the instructions in this guide: http://www.pythian.com/blog/build-ebs-sandbox-1hr. By the way, it's a charm not using VM Server/Manger... ;)
Directly after the installation, I'm able to access to EBS; the login page is available and I can logon into the app.
The problem is, after a reboot of the APPS template, I'm unable to log again.
At the startup, at the step Starting ebizapps, I have the following error:
/u01/E-BIZ/apps/apps_st/appl/APPSbydb_atgtxk02.env: line 31: /u01/E-BIZ/inst/apps/mydb_atgtxk02/ora/10.1.2/mydb/atgtxk02.env: No such file or directory
It is true I do not have /u01/E-BIZ/inst/apps/mydb_atgtxk02/ora/10.1.2/mydb as a directory. Into /u01/E-BIZ/inst/apps/mydb_atgtxk02, I only have admin directory.
I can't explain how after a successful login, a reboot of the EBIZ app template messes up the all thing.

Change to => ". /u01/E-BIZ/apps/apps_st/appl/APPSVIS*.env"

I made the mistake of replacing my template with my
home.html, and now whenever I try to create a new file from the
template, the message is that the template is "nested within itself
(directly or indirectly)"!
How do I restore my original template? I'm afraid I can't
redo my entire website because I've already constructed tens of
pages! And I have a deadline to meet that has already passed...plus
I'm in Asia right now and the telephone support is only M-F 9-5,
and it's already a Saturday! :brokenheart;

Upgrading to Pages 5 messed up my templates.
Not only are some fields missing on new documents, but when opening an old file created with the previous version, the information populating those fields are no where to be found!!!
I am a physican, and since the fields I'm missing are patient name and visit date, it renders all files I've created in the last 3 years unusable.
What can I do to fix this?It looks like Apple has removed Merging.

BI Publisher pcl codes in rtf template
Hi all,
I am using Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.6.9, with oracle database 11G on windows server 2008. I have need to embed pcl commands in rtf templates for printing purposes, but not sure how to do that.
Only thing I found was PCL codes for use when check printing, but also a sentence saying that other pcl commands may work.
There are two things I need if possible - on runtime, depending on value of a filed to change font color (let us say that signature must be sometimes red, sometimes green (font color) in same document), and other is if there is a option for "highlight" saying printer from which ink to print picture (let us suppose that original image is black, but for large xerox printers with black + one color you say use that other color).
PCL printer I try to use for now is on HP laserjet MFP 375 pcl printer, with pcl5 and pcl6 drivers installed.
Should I use in rtf field or can I type these codes in text like xsl commands?
Do I have to use {{beginPCL}} and {{EndPCL}}?
Is it enought to use escape sequences like this? <pcl><control><esc/>&l2S</control></pcl>

You cannot query in RTF using select :)..
You have to mess/play with RDF to do it ;)
Oh wait, did i say , we cannot in RTF, we can , but that is difficult approach to go with., keep this as an end of the world option. -
How to create checkboxes in BIP templates?
I am creating BI Publisher Template for use with Siebel. In the datastream, values for boolean fields are passed as Y or N.
However if I place a MS Word checkbox object and give the field as the property, nothing happens at all.
I have tried using conditional sections and Wingdings font to display checked and unchecked icons depending on the value of the flag. But, when report is run in PDF, Wingdings can not be used.
When exposing the field directly, it populates with "Y" or "N". However, we want checkboxes.
Any ideas appreciated.I have similar issue.
1) I have copied Wingdng2.ttf file to $BIHome/jdk/jre/lib/fonts/ folder.
2) I have created xdo.cfg file and configured to use Wingdings 2;82;163 for checkbox display.

I designed a template in Indesign and tried to save it in Word for my client but the formatting is all messed up. I'm not surprised since Word has quite a bit of formatting restrictions. I am now thinking about PowerPoint. Do I have any other options? Thank you!

Other options for your InDesign-built template? Not really. It's only of use to a user of InDesign. If your client's need was an MS-Office template, you really should have just built it properly in the appropriate MS-Office application. There is no reason you can't; and it's your only remaining, truly viable "other option." -

Navigation bar too wide for template graphic after creating new page
I want to stick within the templates, but I have a lot of pages and don't want them all in the nav bar. When I flagged a page to keep it out of the NAV bar, the NAV bar get messed up - not properly displaying at the edge of the template, like it made room for the hidden page's link then re-adjusted itself too wide for the background graphic. I've got the problem in the elegant template when displayed in IE on Windows (1024X768). Safari on my mac looks OK. Are there any other setting changes I can make to be better compatible?
