Terminus 9pt font issue in Konsole after upgrade

I have a slightly weird font issue in Konsole following a bunch of upgrades today. Basically, at the beginning of the command line and the beginning of subsequent words on that line, the very first character sort of flashes and gets truncated if it is one of several letters. Very narrow characters are not affected (e.g. i) but most are (e.g. n, g, m, r etc.). Once I press enter, the characters look perfectly normal - the issue only occurs on the line being edited and while I am entering or within words as opposed to spaces. Moreover, it only occurs for the first letters of words. Subsequent letters look fine. Once a space is typed following the first word, the character looks normal unless and until I type another letter or return to edit the first word. If I type "cat" it will be a truncated c; at "cat " all looks fine; then "cat c" and the first c is truncated; "cat cat " all is well; "cat c" with the cursor moved back over the second c and the second c rather than the first is truncated.
Any thoughts as to what I should check? I'm using the infinality stuff from AUR. I updated that last night. However, I don't _think_ I saw the issue today until after upgrading the kernel. Here are the last entries from pacman.log:

I'm using Terminus (TTF) in size 9 in Konsole. This hasn't been changed for quite a while.
Any suggestions on how best to troubleshoot this? Is it possible that I need to rebuild some other AUR packages associated with the infinality ones but which haven't actually been updated? Or is it likely to be to do with something else in the list?
EDIT: It only seems to be some fonts at some sizes e.g. Monaco 8pt is OK but Terminus 9pt isn't; Terminus 10pt is OK; etc.

So...i'm having some font issues in Safari after upgrading to Leopard....
It works fine on my desktop but not on my laptop. They both run on Leopard.
Also, it works in Firefox but not Safari.
Here's some screens of what it looks like. This only pertains to any site that uses this font and it isn't uncommon, (sites like google, yahoo, and the WoW Forums)

zoom in to see what i'm talking about, it's really messed up on the full screen

Anyways...any idea on how I can fix this?

I disabled the stencil font and deleted it. No luck here.
I ran a font validation check and this is what showed up, don't know if this means anything.

  • Font Issue in Safari after Migration Assistant Upgrade

I just used Migration Assistant to move from an old Mac Pro tower to a new Mac Pro trash can (chose not to transfer Applications) and most everything is fine except for a strange font issue in Safari. Safari doesn't seem to render Helvetica. Instead I get this:
Chrome seems to render it fine. I was using FontExplorer X to manage fonts on the previous machine so perhaps that is part of the problem (I didn't transfer applications and have not bothered to install it on the new machine yet).
I tried clearing the font cache and repairing permissions as noted in this article, but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

  • Lost fonts (maximo and others) after upgrading to snow leopard

Did anyone else notice missing fonts after upgrading and/or updating?  I opened up a file created before the upgrade and I was notified of about 5 missing fonts...not cool.
    Thanks!

    mhh - bad news.
To the background: In Pages there are some templates. I took one of them (2-3 years ago) and redesigned it for my use. I didn't changed any Fonts. Some changes for borders etc - nothing more.
Before I installed the fresh Lion installation it works. On the harddisk was installed 10.2 - 10.7 (with all the upgrades).
My opinion is, that the Font is a part of the templates or a part of OS X 10.x. I have no problem to reinstall the font (all DVD's are working), but where should I start searching for the font ;-)
To buy the font is one way ... the last path.

  • Fonts Missing in Mail after upgrading to Leopard

After upgrading to Leopard, the fonts are missing in the font window in Mail program. I can compose only using what looks like helvetica. This is true only with this program. Any suggestions? Thanks

After an elimination process, it appeared that there was a conflict of some sort on one of the accounts I had and unfortunately, that was the one with the most messages. Its a pain but my only work around it was to start all over again with Mail. If it helps yo, this is what I did: a) backed up my Mail : user/library/mail and backed up the preference file : user/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    b) removed the Mail preference : user/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    c) restarted Mail and created the accounts all over again via the setup helper
    d) imported the mail boxes from where I saved them including those in the 'pop' folder
Now I have they old messages available in a folder I renamed 'archived' that is in the "ON MY MAC" section of the side bar.
IT IS TEDIOUS AND I AM PRETTY SURE THERE IS A MORE ACCURATE SOLUTION OUT THERE TO THIS PROBLEM.

  • Issue with VPN after upgrading to 10.9.1

    Hi.
Complete newbie so please go easy on me...
I set up a new VPN connection, via the Network Preferences dialog, to connect to my company's network - Interface set to "VPN" and VPN Type set to "Cisco IPSec".  This was working fine - connected without issue - until I recently upgraded to 10.9.1!  Now when I try to connect, I get the "Connecting..." message but it fails to connect.
Is this a known issue or is there something I can do to fix it?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards.
    Paul.

Yes Paul I have, but no solution. I cannot send email. My ISP uses a smtp mail server for sending and It will not log in. Have had ISP on phone and checked all settings. Can only put it down to Mavericks.
It worked OK for a week after upgrading then stopped. So now having to use web mail to send email.
Strange thing is I receive mail OK, just cant send.

  • [SOLVED] Font render/refresh fail after upgrade

After upgrading last Thursday some applications have trouble rendering or refreshing text.
    LibreOffice
    Claws-Mail
In claws-mail, I do see some of the text re-appear after scrolling. For LibreOffice the problem only manifests itself in the menu bar, not in the document contents.
I don't think it's related to the OpenJDK bug mentioned on this board since claws-mail doesn't depend on OpenJDK.
Can anyone give pointers on where to investigate the cause of this problem?
Update: problem seems xrandr/dual-screen related, see my later comment.
Final update: xf86-video-intel was the culprit, see my steps for downgrading.
Last edited by wlen (2014-06-23 12:29:43)

Hooray, managed to find the cause.
Looked through all the packages that were upgraded on that day, you can find these in: /var/log/pacman.log
Then proceeded to downgrade all the packages related to video/fonts things that I recognised; 'intel-dri', all the '*mesa*' packages, 'wxgtk' and 'xf86-video-intel'. Tested after every downgrade, and it turned out only 'xf86-video-intel' caused the font render bug.
    The upgrade in the log:
    /var/log/pacman.log
    [2014-06-18 02:21] [PACMAN] upgraded xf86-video-intel (2.99.911-2 -> 2.99.912-1)
    The downgrade:
    wget http://seblu.net/a/arm/packages/x/xf86-video-intel/xf86-video-intel-2.99.911-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    sudo pacman -U xf86-video-intel-2.99.911-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

  • Having issues with WiFi after upgrading to iOS 7.

After upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 I'm having WiFi issues that I didn't have with iOS 6.  For example, on my home network YouTube videos hang multiple times in a 1 minute video, Facebook pages with heavy duty graphics take forever or don't load, and running Ookla speed test, all the test are slower.  On every other computers in the house, download is faster than upload, except on the iPhone 5 with iOS 7.  Anyone else seen this?

  • Issues with ApexLib after upgrading to Apex4

After upgrading our application to Apex 4 we have run into some issues that look to be related to ApexLib. We had issues with popup LOV’s and some tabular forms, after upgrading to ApexLib 2.1.2 the popup LOV's seem to be resolved. But we still have some problems when trying to update a tabular form that uses ApexLib validation. When trying to update we get an error that 'field' is needed, but the 'field' has been selected from a select LOV.
The error shows "Row 1: Health ED is required."
    The code is:
    select
    "PERSON_WP_HLTH_ID",
    "PERSON_WP_HLTH_ID" PERSON_WP_HLTH_ID_DISPLAY,
    "PERSON_ID",
    "PERSON_WP_HLTH_ED_CODE",
    "PERSON_WP_HLTH_OTHER"
    from "#OWNER#"."PERSON_WP_HLTH"
    where person_id = :p58_person_id
I get this in debug mode.
    ...Process "ApexLib-Before Computation/Validation": PLSQL (ON_SUBMIT_BEFORE_COMPUTATION) BEGIN ApexLib_Item.setBoolDefault; ApexLib_Item.trimItems; ApexLib_TabForm.trimColumns; ApexLib_Lov.clearLovNullValues; ApexLib_Item.validateItems; ApexLib_TabForm.validateColumns; -- ApexLib_Error.showErrorStack; END;
I'm not convinced this is ApexLib related, but not sure what else might be the issue. Any thoughts or comments welcome.

    Peter,
I'm fairly new to APEX, would love to put a copy up on apex.oracle.com but not sure on the process. I have an account there, but don't have a packaged application yet so how to do that. If it's a simple process and you can point me to the process that would be appreciated.
In the mean time, I would have no problem setting up a developer and user account account temporarily for you to take a look. You can email me at [email protected] and I'll get you the info.
    Thanks for you prompt response.

Here's the contents of the LaunchDaemon: https://gist.github.com/041fb2b620677370354d
The errors I've been seeing in the Console look like this:
    10/12/11 9:00:00.354 PM com.apple.launchd: (org.postgresql.postmaster[100]) open("/usr/local/pgsql/logfile", ...): Permission denied
    10/12/11 9:00:00.355 PM com.apple.launchd: (org.postgresql.postmaster[100]) open("/usr/local/pgsql/logfile", ...): Permission denied
10/12/11 9:00:01.328 PM org.postgresql.postmaster: postmaster cannot access the server configuration file "/usr/local/pgsql/data/postgresql.conf": Permission denied
    10/12/11 9:00:01.539 PM com.apple.launchd: (org.postgresql.postmaster[100]) Exited with code: 2
After some poking around, I've come to the conclusion that launchd is no longer switching to the proper user (_postgres) when trying to start the daemon.
Upon further experimentation, I found that by changing the UserName value from _postgres to postgres, the service starts up properly, albeit with the following warning in the Console:
10/13/11 12:10:24.093 PM com.apple.launchd: (org.postgresql.postmaster[4296]) Suspicious setup: User "postgres" maps to user: _postgres
I'm willing to live with this for now, but I'd love to know why this has stopped working, and if anyone else has run into this.
N.B. I followed the instructions here when creating the _postgres user and group.

This is the most likely culprit: com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt   0.0.64
Remove or disable it and see what happens.

  • Is anyone having issues with sound after upgrading RAM?

I recently bought a 2009 Mac Mini with 1GB of RAM. Everything was working fine so I decided to upgrade the RAM to make running more apps a little smoother.
I took it to KRCS (an Apple Premium Reseller) and they put in another 1GB stick. I took the MM home and booted it up but no chime. I loaded iTunes and songs wouldn't play. I couldn't even turn the volume up or down.
After taking it back to KRCS they verified all the connections were ok and everything was seated correctly, however the sound still wont work. They ran some hardware diagnostics and they said that it is showing that there is a sound devicde present but it isn't showing any input or output devices once booted in to OS X.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this? Could it be a firmware issue do you think?
    Cheers,
    James

    Morning peeps
As mentioned I booked my Mac Mini in with an Apple Genius to see if they could shed any light on the problem. So I saw a very helpful guy called James (go figure 8-)) who looked first of all looked to see if there were any reported problems by Apple. He also had a look around the net to see if there were any suggestions but unfortunately this all proved to be fruitless. He then tried booting from a clean drive to see if it was a software issue but this again failed, leaving him a little stumped.
Finally after a few minutes of looking at verious hardware information he decided to look at the RAM as the Mac was reporting the new 1GB stick I had installed was from a different manufacturer. Again no luck and at this point I knew what was comming...
"It doesn't look like I will be able to fix the problem today."
After all his efforts he couldn't seem to solve the issue so the next stange involves replacing some of the hardware. He showed me that he had gone ahead and ordered a new sound board, the ribbin that connects it to the main board and something else which escapes me at the moment, all of which is covered under the waranty.
So after all that the issue still remains. My Mac Mini is at the Apple Store at the moment and is awaiting the new parts to be installed. James was confident that it could be fixed with these new parts, however he did say that if it couldn't be fixed then Apple would replace it with a new one. He also mentioned that they would try and get the RAM upgrade working once the new hardware was fitted, but if that is unsuccessful he is going to give me the RAM back to get a refund at KRCS.
I think I have covered everything there - sorry if I started to ramble a bit
If you need any more information then I would be more than happy to help.
    Cheers,
    James

  • Issue with amavisd after upgrade to 2.6.4 folowing topicdesk tutorial

Running into various issues with my mail server after applying Security Update 2009-005 to my MacOS X Server 10.4.11, I have upgraded Amavisd, SpamAssassin and ClamAV to the most recent versions respectively 2.6.4, 3.2.5 and 0.95.2 using the topicdesk tutorials as in the past.
Amavisd now refuses to start issuing a
setrgid() not implemented at /usr/bin/amavisd line 13421
I have reinstalled everything several times in case I would have made a mistake but no luck.
Falling back to the previous version of amavisd (2.6.3) does not fix the problem.
Has someone an idea on where to look.
A thread in 2008 speaks about the same massage but I have been able to figure out how the problem was fixed.
    Urgent help welcome.

Thanks for your reply. Neither amavisd.log not system.log gives any clue on where the problem comes from. I was trying to use debug to get an idea on where the problem comes from but it seems not to work as before though.
I am definitely not a UNIX specialist. How do you run amavisd in debug mode than if you can't no longer run it from the command line with debug.
Regarding the installation process, I have followed the tutorial line by line and did it 5 times just to be sure.
I nevertheless experienced several issues that I fixed :
    1. force install Convert::UUlib failed. I had to run the install out of CPAN.
    2. running /usr/local/bin/spamassassin -V fails with command not found but succeed when run as /usr/bin/spamassassin -V
    3. sudo su clamav "spamassassin --lint" generating 2 warnings due to ok_locales and ok_languages in /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf even after running spamtrainer -f, fixed by commenting out the two lines.
To ensure that I did not do a typo, I have copied an unmodified version of amavisd.conf tp /etc/amavisd.conf. Same issue. Amavisd won't start.
Is there a way to get what executing amavisd debug from the terminal was doing ?
Will run a clean install on a different server that runs the same os level but was never upgraded using topicdesk tutorials and see what happens.
