Test counter with external timebase in DAQ

According to your reply (Go to Measurement and Automation Explorer and open a test panel for your PCI-MIO-16XE-50 card. Select Edge Counting in Counter I/O and then select the appropriate clock. This will count the edges of the selected clock. If you change the external timebase to a slower clock the test panel should account for this, by counting much slower)
On my PCI-MIO-16XE-50 board,I did the test: Connect external signal on PFI7. On MAQ,Edge counting is set PFI7,Channel name is ctr0. Then I change the external signal frequency, then counter value changes with the external frequency (slow or fast). So it means, the board master timebase is replaced by the signal on PFI7. Is this correct?

he ctr0 working? How is it conected with the timebase. What is the relationship between the ctr0, the timebase? Thanks

As the second scenario in the article (Can I replace my timbase with an exsternal source), I made a change of your attached vi. What I do is: connect my timebase signal to PFI7, then route PFI7 to RTSI6 by Route signal.vi, connect RTSI6 to RTSI clock by a jumper, then route RTSI clock to board clock by route signal.vi. This gets an error: 10003. Then I read help of Route signal.vi, I know that not every PFI can be the signal source, PFI7 cannot. For E serial, I can use GPCTR0 Source. So I change my progam, route GPCTR0 Source(PFI8) to RTSI6. Now no error. One thing I don't understand is, I use GPCTR0 Source/PFI8, which is an output when it is GPCTR0 Source. How could my external signal be connected to an output pin? How could my external si
gnal replace the mastertimebase if it is connected to an output pin?
Could you have a look of my vi?

PCI-MIO-16XE-50: I make scan clock use a much more stable external timebase by Alternate Clcok rate spec in AI clock config.vi. In this case, what happens to channel clock? Which timebase will it use? The external one or the internal one? If the internal one, does it mean that the final data from DAQ is not stable and accurate? Shall I configure both scan rate and channel rate using the external timebase?

Testing SWF with external XML file, strange problem.

My problem started after migration to 2.01. But I think it's
not version problem.
I have old project which uses external XML files ("
http://www.mydomain.com/myxml.xml").
When I teste project in "bin" folder it works perfect and SWF
import data from XML.
I created new Flex project and copied all scripts from old
one. And my new app can't read external XML!!! (tested in "bin"
folder):

BUT when I copy my new SWF to the old project "bin" folder
then it WORKS! Strange!

my project paths (old and new).

Here i need to measure the time/no edges between two edges. Falling to Raising of two signals.
I got the measurement with internal time base.
here i need to synchronize the measurements with external clock from the external setup.
so i need to use that external clock,timebase for the counters.
Any solution please..

First, the VI you mention is NOT for STC timer/counters. Therefore, it won't work.
If you want to get the time interval between two edges, you want to use the Functions -> Data Acquisition -> Counter -> Count Events or Time VI. This will do the function you are looking for.

Problems with external counter direction

I have a DAQPad-6015 attached to a SC-2345, in slot 19 of the SC-2345 I have a SCC-CTR01. Within MAX I have created a task to retrieve the counter information but because there is no option of a SCC-CTR01 I have configured it as a SCC-FT01. Attached to the "SCR" input of the SCC-CTR01 I have a signal generator and on the test pannel I can see the counter count the edges as I wanted. My next step is to externally control the direction with the "GATE" input on the SCC-CTR01 and have had no luck. I am able to see the TTL signals from the SCC-CTR01 on the green connector stack, I can see the signal generator out on PFI 8 and I can see the "GATE" switch on PFI 9. I am also able to switch the count direction by tieing P0.6 to 5 volts when in the mode of "Count Direction, Externally Controlled" is selected. I am not able to connect PFI9 to P0.6 as there appears to be another output tied to P0.6. Where do I go from here?

Hi Ken-
The code snippet in that KB shows how to use a DAQmx Property Node to override the default direction terminal in case you need an isolated input terminal for your count direction and are using an M Series device (which features configurable counter terminals)
I'm assuming you are using an E Series device judging by your P0.6 query. To answer your question, Yes- you can use pin 16 on the built-in breakout area of the SC-2345 carrier to externally control the count direction of your counter. There is no need to tristate the line as long as you specify "Externally Controlled" for count direction in your DAQ Assistant settings. If you still require an isolated input terminal for the count direction you could use an SCC-DI01 module to interface directly with P0.6. All of this information is available in the KB you mentioned. Please let me know if you need additional clarification.

DAQ MIO scan rate, channel rate and external timebase

Using PCI-MIO-16XE-50 to collect data: if I use RTSI replaces the internal timebase with my external one(which is more stable), then I define a scan rate of 1000 scans/s, I don't define channel rate(using the default setting). In this case, will both the scan and channel rate be based on the external timebase? Or only scan rate is based on external timebase, or neither of them is based on? I am confused. Thanks for help

Start a counter with SOURCE, stop with GATE?

I would like to START a DAQ-STC counter using the rising edge of the SOURCE
input, and stop the counter with the rising edge of the GATE input. So I
have two seperate digital lines I want to use to start and stop. Any pointers
on how to do this? (Please respond via email also)

Thanks for the reply, GarPar. I think I have solved the triggerring a counter with another with your and Stefan&Kekin's help. Now, I can generate two counter outputs (chip select and clock) as I wanted but I couldn't read the National Semiconductor differential sensor board output at the same time. I have attached the Labview I have written and scope screenshot which shows the chip select(signal 1), clock(sig 2) and output(sig 3). As I told previously, first I generate Chip select signal(1), then at falling edge I generate clock signal(it keeps going on). Finally, I try to read starting the output at falling edge of Chip select counter using clock counter output as the clock source for my read Timing.vi. BTW, Labview gives an -200560 error after the Read.vi which is an timeout error although I don't need any external connection since I am taking both trigger and clock output internally. And I checked that I connect the output pin to the line 6 of Ni 9401 (many times )
Error -200560 occurred at an unidentified location
Possible reason(s):
Wait Until Done did not indicate that the task was done within the specified timeout.
Increase the timeout, check the program, and make sure connections for external timing and triggering are in place.
Can you see any apparent problems in my labview program? Finally, I am using
o ctr2 as Chip Select counter,
o ctr0 as Clock
ctr2InternalOutput as clock trigger
o line 6 as digital input
ctr0InternalOutput as read clock

Using one counter with FiniteSamps and another with ContSamps

I am trying to use 2 counters on the USB-6229 (or USB-6259), where one counter is set up for FiniteSamps and another for ContSamps. I have the following MeasurementStudio code:

When I run it, I get a run-error 50103 "The specified resource is reserved". If I change the FiniteSamps to ContSamps on the first counter, everything works fine.
If I use only one counter with FiniteSamps, everything also works fine.
Is this a bug in DAQmx or the dual counter use on M-series devices is limited to ContSamps?

Hi Vic,
This is actually expected on an M Series device. Here's a timing diagram from the M Series User Manual that might make this a bit more clear:
The device actually uses one counter to gate the other so the result is a finite pulse generation. If you can provide the gate from another source, you may configure a continuous pulse generation on both counters and gate them (DAQmx calls this a "Pause Trigger") from this external signal.
You might also want to look into using Correlated Digital I/O to generate multiple finite pulses (up to 32 lines on your 6229 and 6259). You could use one of the counters to generate a timebase for the digital lines, and build the waveform accordingly.
One thing to note is that our new X Series boards can generate a finite pulse generation on a "single" counter (there is actually a paired internal counter that allows for this). There are four user-accessible counters on X Series devices, meaning you could generate four finite pulse trains.

Hi,I have a question on how to trigger a counter with AI input.We are using a DAQ board with two counters(counter 0 & 1),and we have an external synchronization signal input at a frequency of 50 Hz or so.The counter is set to event counting mode.Now we want to trigger one of the counters so that the counter starts a new counting process each time it detects a rising/falling edge from the sync signal.Can anybody kindly show me how to achieve this?Thanks a lot.

I think that the behavior you are looking for can be achieved by configuring the counter for buffered period measurement. The counter starts counting from some initial value with each rising or falling edge on the gate. You could also use buffered event counting, but the count value will not reset with each edge on the gate. I don't know what you're using to program the board, but you could start by looking at the counter examples that are installed with NI-DAQ.

users. HOWEVER, instead of sharing individual documents, we were wondering if there was a way that an external user (that we have granted
access) could sign into the public SharePoint site, and then see information that ONLY pertains to them.
I have been doing some research on this, and I haven't seen that anyone else has tried this. Has anyone had any luck? Or would you have suggestions on how to make

did you finally manage to get what you requested here above ? Indeed, I am also struggling to set up the same (public website with individual content sharing with external authentified user).
For external user, I am quite sure that we need to go through MS ID creation (I have created some test users using https://login.live.com).
Our public website is done and (almost) working. I have then created a sub-site for the same, this one to manage permission based on authentified user
But I am stuck when trying to assign a document library with relavant permission.
Would be great to share our feedback and I have searched a lto on the web and did not find any satisfying answer to this design (If there is any... here is my doubt...)

Federation Service with External Organization is not working

Exchange 2010 is running in present environment and recently I have introduced Exchange 2013. There is federation Enabled at Exchange 2010 end with External Exchange organization. When we migrated users from E2k10 to E2k13 Free /Busy sync has stopped working.
Exchange 2k10 & E2k13 in same Exchange organization and no errors found in configuration part and all seems Success.
Here what I am suspecting, something that I need to do at F5 load balancer end, not sure what :( .. I need urgent help from Experts in this forum to help me in case I have missed something to make Federation working.

Troubleshooting plan
1) Check run correctly Exchange CAS 2010/2013

You don't.
Need a internal optical drive and the Hardware Test on disks is old and outdated anyway.
Your machine has lasted a long time, congratulations, they usually only last about 4-5 years.
They get clogged up with dust and overheat, kills the video card, there is nothing you can do as it's hardware damage over time.

Mac air with external hard drive - not being found on Finder, Time Machine, Migration Assistant

I have been using an external drive (Imation Apollo) to access only, old files from previous computer (PC) on a new Mac Air. I had not transferred them across to new computer (didn't want to do that) just accessing them from the HD. It had been working fine until recently. Each time the external drive had been connected Time Machine would come up and ask if i wanted to use this drive for back ups, and I always chose 'Decide later'. So, as yetI hadn't as yet configured Time Machine to do back ups.
Recently I noticed that the extrnal HD was no longer showing up on Finder. Slight panic as i have 5 or 6 yrs of work saved on that HD
Further investigations - it's also not showing up either on on Disk Utility, or on Migration Assistant.
I've done the following:
Tried HD in each of different USB ports - made no difference, HD still not showing up
Tested different Hubs in each port with HD attached - no difference HD not showing up
Tried USB flash drives in the USB ports - These are working fine and show up on finder
Tried the HD on other comptuters (a PC though, don't have access to another mac to do this test)- working fine, the HD is showing up and is accessable
Interrogated the Console logs to try to see if the act of attaching the HD creates a log entry - couldn't find anything
Rebooted computer via shut down, power disconnect - no difference
Reset PRAM - no difference still not showing up
Reset SMC - no differnce still not showing up
So I think I have established that all the USB ports are functioning correctly and able to access other external drive devices, using hubs with external powersource is not the issue, identified that the external hard drive is working OK, and it appears that the Mac itself is functioning normally.
What would be the reason the Mac now does not allow this specific external HD to be identified and accessed. The only possible things I can think of are
if I had in fact pressed 'Do not use' when Time Machine asked 'do you want to use this drive for back ups'. Would that mean that the Mac now totally rejects this HD from being a source of accessible files - I hope not!
I also think that my husband may have disconnected the hard drive from my computer to access some stuff and he just yanked it out rather than use the safe eject method. Could this create an issue? The Hard drive works fine on his PC.
Why is my Mac Air now rejecting this HD and what can I do to access my historical files now.
Any assistance anyone can provide would be very greatly appreciated!

I can't answer why it isn't accessing it, but I have a slightly related issue w my back up drive starting to get noisy.
Realizing that redundancy is safety for critical data. I talked to my brother about my situation the other day & he said he has 3 small Western Digital portable HDs that he rotates for backup. He even keeps 1 in the safe deposit box.
I have read for some time that we should have multiple back ups & also have our critical stuff backed up off site. Amazon HD reviews had a woman telling about how she was very backed up on multiple computers & hard drives, but they were robbed or burgeled & all of them were stolen including her thesis that was on the computers.
Hard drives aren't that expensive. I just bought a new Western Digital 1 TB drive for $89.99. I plan to use it to back up the Seagate that is getting noisy & then maybe alternate them.
Also, when I came back to Mac, I moved practially all of my documents to Mac. I think I just dragged & dropped or something. Photos, Office, & pdfs do fine that way. & then you could back them up to a couple of different external drives & remove from your MacBookAir.
Unfortunately I think most of us do not back up until crisis & then it may be too late.
Also use Time Machine. For the 1st time in my computer life, my computer is well backed up--although now realizing the need for redundancy so will start backing up to at least 2 different HDs alternatly.
So, not sure why it isn't working & hopefully you have come up w a solution by now.
I think what I would do in a situation like this, since you can access it on the Windows machine would be to transfer the data to the Windows machine & then transfer it back to a different back up.
I'm looking into backing up what I still have in Windows using a thumb flash drive. I think it should all fit ok now that they have the larger drives & I don't have very much left in Windows format.

Issues with External Hard Drives

I'm getting repeated issues with External Hard Drives, including ones that I have been using successfully for months/years, suddenly failing to mount and then becoming 'unknown device' through the firewire branch of 'About This Mac'.

My concerns are:
* Some of the permissions repaired yesterday appear to have needed to be repaired again today
* There are several files which carry a warning that they won't be repaired as they have been 'modified', and some of these clearly relate to disk management.

Many problems with the 10.5.7 update have been fixed by a Restart.
If that doesn't help, something may have gone wrong with the update. Download and install the "combo" update, from: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate
If that doesn't help, try running the Apple Hardware Test, on the disc that came with your computer.
1. Disconnect all external devices (including the Ethernet cable) except the keyboard and mouse.
2. Insert the "Additional Software & Apple Hardware Test" disc that came with your computer.
3. Restart while holding down the "C" key. When the list of available startup volumes appears, click Apple Hardware Test and the right arrow.
4. When the Apple Hardware Test main screen comes up (after a moment), follow the on screen instructions.
5. If it detects a problem, an error code will be displayed. Make a note of it.

I have new hard drive in macbook pro(08) and have SATA cable with external power source to old hard drive (10.5.8)via. USB port and newer drive(10.6.8) will not recognize older drive..Do I need to partition newer drive with older disk to recover data?

I have new HD 750GB Hybrid in 2008 Macbook Pro 17" w/ Snow Leopard 10.6.8 connected to old Hard drive(250GB that had 10.5.8 on it at time of failure) via SATA cable to USB port with external power source.. Computer not acknowledging old HD at all in Disk Utility or otherwise (that I'm aware of)..Do I need to partition New HD and load old(10.5.8) onto partition to recognize older drive for data recovery? You do not need to load 10.5.8 onto your new drive in order for a 10.6.8 system to see the contents of a 10.5.8 system.

They also sell a product named Phoenix that can do OS extraction and volume copying/cloning, but to be honest I don't know if it's appropriate in this case.
I would suggest the following:
Open up Terminal.app (under utilities) and type "diskutil list" without the quotes. This is the command line version of Disk Utility. If the external drive doesn't show up at all, then it's likely not connected properly, not getting power, or just plain dead. If it shows up with only a devce name like disk0s16 but no volume it means the drive is seen, the OS just can't make sense of it.
Assuming the drive shows up, I would try to boot off the original installl disks for the system and run Disk Utility from that. I'm assuming the drive will show up. You'll want to select the option to repair the drive and then perform the option to repair the permissions.
If the unit isn't showing up, as per step 1, try a different USB port. More importantly with your unit, try it on another side of the unit if possible. If you read the book I referenced above, some of those units have I/O boards that are separated from the logic board. If the cable from the logic board to the I/O card goes bad or has problems, which isn't all that uncommon, some or all of the ports on the I/O card may appear to be bad as well. If you use a USB port on another side, it would be routing out of a completely different I/O path, so that's a potential problem.
If the drive is only seen with a device name such as disk0s16, it's likely either the index files are corrupt beyond Disk Utility's ability to see them. The only thing that I think would help would be a product named DIsk Warrior, but I can't guarantee that.

The company that I linked in the first link above also makes a product named Scannerz that does HD and system testing. The Scannerz/Disk Warrior combination make a good pair because the complement each other....Scannerz does what Disk Warriror can't and Disk Warrior does what Scannerz can't. However, at this point I'm not too sure getting a tool like Scannerz would be of much use because it sounds like the damage has already been done.
