Testing a function generator using PXI-5412

I want to test a function generator example by reading it from a PXI-5412, but I dont know what do I suppose to read the input from.

I don't understand. The PXI-5412 is a function/arbitrary waveform generator and it cannot read anything. It is an output only device. To check the output, you can connect it to a scope.

Generating DC using PXI 5412

Hi ! All,
I program the PXI 5412 for AWG & FGEN application.
I can generate various waveforms like sine, triangle, square, ramp & noise.
I'm trying to generate a DC signal of say 5V amplitude.
I'm able to get it correctly for 0V. But for any non-zero value, I cannot see the rise in amplitude of the DC signal in the CRO.
I've wired the "Standard Function" constant to the output mode terminal of the niFgen Configure Output Mode.vi
What is the solution for this problem?
I'm able to capture all the other waveforms at desired amplitude with desired offset too.
So kindly clarify me regarding this.

I haven't used this device, but for a quick and dirty fix I'd try
setting a square wave of the desired amplitude with a period twice as
long as your anticipated work session, then add a reset routine on the
edge transition to start the waveform over (just in case you are
working overtime ).

Sending waveform to function generator?

Hello all,
I am using an agilent 33205A function generator and require it to use a
special driving waveform. Currently I load the waveform using
this HP Benchlink software. I would like to automate this in the
startup of my vi. Is there a way to download a "home-grown"
waveform to the function generator using labview?

If you're using the driver from here, then use the function called ag33xxx - Arbitrary Wfm Ops. You will have to create the waveform in the form of a 1D array. Look at the high level example called ag33xxx - Arb - Application. I don't see a function in the driver that allows you to output a defined waveform so you may want to look in the instrument manual to see if there is such a function. If there is, then it should be a simple matter to read it and then place the values into LabVIEW as a constant or something you read from file.

I am a final year ECE student I want to know how to design a high frequency microwave function generator using the labview. Pl. help me in this. It may help me in proceeding my final project..

LabVIEW is a programming language. It can do anything, but its specialty is its ease in communicating with real world devices. But it doesn't have any means of designing a "microwave function generator".
What are you really trying to do? Are you sure you should be trying to use LabVIEW to do it?

I want to use the Function Generator VI to send command signals through the NI 7344 motion controller. This will be a closed loop servo valve system. I want to be able to change from say a square wave to a sine wave on the fly. Idea's?

I am going to run tests that require an actuator to move using various types of arbitrary waveforms such as sine or square. The NI 7344 is hooked to the UMI that is going through a driver for a servo valve. The loop is analog and it is closed. I have played with some of the examples but can't get it to work. I have used the function generator VI to generate a signal but I think I am using the wrong input VI to the motion control board. When I use what I have it moves the servo and then stops. It doesn't continually generate the signal.
I would love to use the controls on the function generator vi to control frequency and amplitude ect. Any help or pointer would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

I'm not clear on exactly how you want to use the generated data but I'm assuming they will be used as your target points.
There's a built-in example for motion called 'One-Axis Contour Move.vi'. This example demonstrates how to provide your target points as 1-D array. All you need to do is to replace the input array with the output of the function generator. In order to have it run continuously, use a while loop. You can further program your application so that it'll change the waveform on the fly by monitoring the user interface but this might be little little tricky as you will need to reset the move and load the new generated points while keeping track of your current position.

How can you create a test plan generator using labview

I am looking to create a testplan generator using labview to help RF Engineers translate test requirements into test parameters and wanted to know how i can go about it.

Have you considered to use Teststand? Teststand organizes all the tests and allows to parameterize them.
Creating a tool with a similar functionality will be more expensive than buying Teststand and modifing the operator interface.

Hi Venki,
When using an arbitrary waveform or user-defined
waveform, you provide the actual waveform you want to generate to
the device, so it is easy to also just connect a graph to the waveform
and see what it looks like. Unfortunately, when using standard function generation (which is the method used in this example), you are not providing a signal that is created in software. Because the standard function
generation is happening on the FGEN and not in software, there is
really no way to display the exact signal without measuring
it on a scope or some device. You can, however, simulate the signal in
software such that the parameters which are given to the FGEN functions
are the same parameters that you use to generate a simulated wave. This
would be somewhat complex since you can change parameters such as
frequency and amplitude on-the-fly, and also you would need separate
functions for each of the different signal types available for the
FGEN. You would need to place the software waveform generator in your
inner loop and have a waveform graph connected to it in the loop as
well to display the signal. The main thing to keep in mind is that this
will only be a simulated signal and so it may not exactly match what is
being generated (this also depends on how you program the simulation to

Generating 2 clocks with different phase using PXIe-6674T ??

hi,
somehow i cant use the daqmx digital counter to generate nice 10MHz pulse train with my pxi 6733.
The option now I can use my timing module pxie 6674T to have base clock 40MHz, and then using divisor 1 and 2 I can generate 2 synchronized clock in PFI0 and PFI1.
Then I use function connect terminal to connect Oscillator and PXI_Clock_10 to get my pxi chassis synchronized with my timing module.
Then I use pxi clock as reference to generate my digital signal with pxie 6544.
Somehow, my generated signals; clock from timing module, pxi clock from backplane and digital signal from pxie 6544 are not synchronized. The phase difference keeps changing.
I dont see any Init.vi while working with pxie 6674T. I'm assuming I can simply connecting clocks and triggers through RTSI bus, then generate my digital signal with 6544.
I need help to have 10Mhz from 6674T and another 10Mhz from 6544 with 1/4 phase difference between them, which should be stable all the time.

Elvis: Is It possible to use the Function Generator and the Oscilloscope simultaneously?

We are using the NI Elvis to output a function or a sine wave at a certain frequency and using the oscilloscope on the same board/elvis to read a modified signal. Is this possible? Can we use both the Function Generator and the oscilloscope at the same time? Please help. The oscilloscope would be reading signal from an accelerometer. Thank you in advance. We have no VI as we do not know which to use and if they are possible.

There is no problem using the Function Generator and Oscilloscope
at the same time with NI ELVIS. Using the NI ELVIS soft front panels (Start
>> Programs >> National Instruments >> NI ELVIS 3.0 >>
NI ELVIS – see picture attached –‘NI ELVIS soft front panels.JPG’), you can choose
to open more than one instrument at a time. We do this by opening one
instrument, allowing it to begin, and then opening another. We can also program
in LabVIEW using more than one instrument at a time by placing down multiple
Express VI’s taken from the NI ELVIS pallet on the block diagram (see picture
attached – ‘ELVIS Express VI's (LabVIEW).JPG’). One note when doing this,
please see KB 41ODPHX1
for an example of how to program in parallel. If you do not wire the ‘stop’
terminal of the express VI’s, you will get the error described.

Creating two sin signals using function generator.vi example

hi all. i want to create two sin signals with different parameters using function generator.vi example. i tried to modify the example by copying the code and try to output two sin signals on different channels of the DAQ but error message saying that you are validating of the AO write buffer . attached is the file. how can i modify it to solve the problem?!

I am using the function generator example

i am using the function generator example to send sine, triangular, sawtooth waves to oscilloscope.
I would like to send not only the symmetric but also unsymmetric amplitude of each wave.for example the upper peak of the amplitude, i could adjust as 2 volts and the lower peak as 3 volts or vice versa.how it works in function genartor example.Please note the i am using data acquisition card AT- MIO-16XE-50 for this purpose.please tell me with some example.

To add a terminal to the connector pane, right click on vi icon and select show connector. Notice that the mouse pointer turns to a wiring tool when over the connector. Click on a small box inside the pane and then click on a front panel control or indicator to connect that box to the control/indicator. Then repeat for the next control/indicator. Do this until all the inputs (controls) and outputs (indicators) you need are defined. Normally, all inputs are on the left half and all outputs are on the right half, and Error In is connected to the bottom left box, and Error Out is connected to the bottom right box. You can change the terminal pattern by right clicking on the connector pane and pointing to pa
ttern and then selecting a pattern. To make the graph as an output, click on the top right box then click on the waveform graph.
As for continuous update, put the graph inside a loop where you generate your waveform and wire the output to the graph. As long as the loop is running, you will get a continuous update. The Y axis can be configured for amplitude and the X axis for time. Right click on the graph and select properties. Play with this to become familiar with all aspects.

I'm buy book "ABAP Objects" 2nd edition 2007 and try to make all exampless my self. All my examples have prefix Y (in program already used prefix Z by book authors). When i'm make reservation car example i have trouble to test my example with function module.
Can't use F4 when try to test Y_INPUT_CUSTOMER function module.
And i try to find error in Z_INPUT_CUSTOMERS. Bethween my program and builtint example i found 1 diffirence: built in example have object SREEN 1100 in tree OBJECT NAVIGATOR. When i try to make new srceen happents error (already exist). Because in module declared screen 1100.
How can i fix error?
