TestStand Deployment Installer Media Spanning

I am creating an installer from the TestStand Deployment Utility. There is a media spanning option that permits selection of various media sizes: CD, extended CD, DVD, etc... I have created a deployment / installer (659MB) that exceeds the threshold for the standard CD (650MB). I would expect 2 volumes to be created in the deployment /installer build directory: Volume 1 and Volume 2. This is not the case, only Volume 1 is created, it exceeds the 650MB limit.
Thanks.

dpg -
Were you able to test this with a custom media size like 250 MB? Both Shawn and I were able to get the 650 MB and 250 MB media spanning scenarios working. I'd like to rule out the possibility that your deployment is so close to 650 MB cutoff that the media is not being separated into 2 volumes.
If the custom media size (250 MB) case also fails for you, then we will have a better idea of what might be causing this.

  • Why doesn't my TestStand deployment installation show up under my Windows start menu of my target machine?

Why doesn't my TestStand deployment installation show up under my Windows start menu of my target machine?
I have successfully installed working deployments to target machines. However, I was expecting to see the installation listed as "My TestStand System A" in my start menu, but it is not. Am I misunderstanding something here?
Also, if I peform a different second deployment to the target station like "My TestStand System B", all of the LabVIEW files from my previous installation for "My TestStand System A" disappear from the target directory (c:\Program Files\My TestStand System A).
I am using TestStand 4.2.1 Professional on the development station with Windows XP and LabVIEW 2009.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks Paul,
That solved my second problem and inspired me to search deeper for the answer to my first problem. The answer is in the "Distributed Files" tab, "installer properties", "Create a Program Item" checkbox:
Wouldn't it be nice if this was automatically checked by default for the main sequence files? Wouldn't it also be nice if "Upgrade Code" was automatically regenerated by default whenever we saved the *.tsd file under a different name?
    Thanks again,

  • CS4 Master Collection Updated Installation Media

I am setting up a remote deployment package for CS4 Master Collection using the Development Tool Kit to use with SCCM.
I was initially using the 4 installation media provided using the steps provided in the documentation. However, they are clearly outdated now and require updating. If i download the Installation media from the http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs4-product-downloads.html webpage will these have the current updates installed or will the client systems have run the updates still?
I did find the remote updating tool but it states it is for CS5 and above. Is there a similar tool for CS4?
    Thanks for any assistance.

Moving this discussion to the Enterprise Deployment for Creative Cloud, Creative Suite forum'
Mikey_it please be aware the installers available at Download CS4 products are for retail licenses.  If you are deploying the software then it is likely you have a volume license.  In this case you will want to download the volume license installation files from https://licensing.adobe.com/.

  • Unable to include Operator Interface in TestStand deployment

Hello.  I have created a test system using TestStand 3.5.
There is only one sequence file, and this sequence calls several VIs
that I have created in LabVIEW 8.0.  I would like to distribute
this test system to a target computer, which will then run the default
Operator Interface.  No bells and whistles, just plain and
simple.  However, I'm running into problems.
First, I created a Workspace file in TestStand.  I then added a
Project to it.  In the Project, I added all necessary files for my
project (the sequence file as well as all of the custom VIs).
Then I proceeded to follow the TestStand reference manual in order to
    deploy my system.
For reference, text in italics is the reference guide and text in bold is my comments.
    Deploying the TestStand Engine
    1. Launch the TestStand Deployment Utility by selecting Tools»Deploy
TestStand System from within the sequence editor.
I did this, and set up my build how I wanted it.
    2. On the System Source tab, enable the Deploy Files in TestStand User
    Directories option.
This option collects files from the <TestStand>\...\User
directories, so that any customizations that you have made to process
models, step types, language strings, and so on, will be distributed to
    the target computer.
I did this, and copied my Operator Interfaces\NI folder to Operator
Interfaces\User.  This would assure (I hope) that I would have the
default operator interfaces included in my project.
    3. On the Installer Options tab, enable the Install TestStand Engine
    option.
    Done.
    4. On the Installer Options tab, click Engine Options to launch the
TestStand Engine Options dialog box, which you use to select the
TestStand components that should be present in the installer.
    Done.  Everything is checked.
In the TestStand Engine Options dialog box, expand Operator
    Interfaces»Full-Featured in the tree view.
    a. Click the X next to LabWindows/CVI to include the
Full-Featured LabWindows/CVI Operator Interface in the engine
installation. The X should become a green checkmark.
    b. Click OK to accept the new settings and close the dialog box.
This is where things go wrong.  There is NO Operator Interfaces box in my tree view.  It simply doesn't exist.
I've tried several different builds using different strategies.
I've done builds with the CVI operator interface in the User directory,
and I've also tried copying over the files manually.  On the
target computer, I've always gotten either an error message (Could not
open the TestStand Engine), or else TestStand opens in evaluation
mode.  In both cases, my custom VIs and sequence files are nowhere
to be seen.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  It's
    driving me a bit crazy!
    Thanks very much,
    Brett Gildersleeve

    Hi Brett,
Whenever you deploy your TestStand application to target machines, you will always needs a license.  The licenses for distributing TestStand are different than for distributing LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI code modules.
LabVIEW does not require you to purchase any run-time licenses for a deployment system. You can even run LabVIEW VIs in VI format (not executables) from TestStand without using the development environment and without an additional license.
In order to run LabWindows/CVI code modules, you will need the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time engine which is also available free of charge.
Regarding TestStand, you will need a license for each machine that runs a TestStand sequence. TestStand has three types of licenses which are the TestStand Development System License, the TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License, and the TestStand Base Deployment Engine License.
    TestStand Development System License
The TestStand Development System License is required for any test sequence development and/or editing of existing TestStand sequence files that you perform within the TestStand Sequence Editor or programmatically using the TestStand API.
    TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License
The TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License gives you maximum flexibility for deploying TestStand and LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio-based systems. This license allows you to install the development versions of TestStand, LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio, along with any corresponding add-on toolkits, so that you can debug your test application on your deployed test station. This license does not include the ability to perform any development tasks within the TestStand Sequence Editor or programmatically using the TestStand API.
The TestStand Debug Deployment Environment License has debugging capabilities including settings breakpoints, monitoring variable values, and stepping into test code directly from the TestStand sequence.
(Note: This license does not provide the software but rather gives you the right to install a previously purchased piece of software on the target machine.)
    TestStand Base Deployment Engine License
The TestStand Base Deployment Engine License is the minimum license required for all deployed TestStand-based applications. This license allows you to deploy the TestStand Engine, a TestStand Operator Interface, and TestStand sequence files to the single test station for which the license is applicable.
The TestStand Base Deployment Engine License provides simple sequence debugging capabilities, including setting breakpoints and single stepping through test sequences in your Operator Interface. You cannot save sequences and open the sequence editor.
I hope this clears things up.

  • Installation Media for Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash without Extra Software

Is there a Installation Media format for Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash which does not have McAfee, Google Chrome or Google Toolbar associated with the installation?  This deployment is for a IT department.  We do not want Google Chrome, Toolbar, or McAfee installed on our workstation, and we want to prevent our users from installing them when performing the upgrades to newer versions.  We want installation media without the extra software for deployment.  Does Adobe supply these?

  • Need to create, build, or obtain the Windows 7 INSTALLATION media, not the recovery stuff

I want to be able to install Windows 7 on a Thinkpad WITHOUT all the factory installed stuff.  I DO NOT NEED the recovery image "solution" that comes preinstalled on the laptop.  I need to be able to create a clean Windows 7 installtion that we can image and deploy without the preloaded stuff.
Basically, is there a way, and if so, how do I create a Windows 7 INSTALLATION  media, not the recovery stuff? If this can't be done, do I need to purchase the media from Lenovo?  An example of what I'm looking for:  Dell makes it very easy to do this. You can create the Windows 7 installation media. Just like the Windows XP and 2000 CD/DVD's they used to ship.
I have searched and can't find anything the addresses this.

I'm taking a guess that you're looking for a vanilla Win 7 installer download.  As sarbin said, if that's not your issue, please start another thread.  (At least this will update that stale link - for a while.)
The content in that link got pulled a while back.
Here's a fresher link that still works (for how long, who knows...)  Even includes SP1.
Default Legal Download: Windows 7 with SP1, 13 languages
These are Microsoft installer DVD ISOs that still require activation.  If you choose one that matches the COA on the target machine (home premium, pro, ultimate), they can be activated with that COA.  it will require phone activation.

  • TestStand Deployment problems on Windows 2K3 x64

    Greeings:
I'm hoping someone out there can advise me.
I recently tried building a TS application to deploy on a server running WIndows Server 2003 x64, and I have run into a few difficulties.  On my development system, (32-bit WInXP pro) I built a TS Deployment installer.  I transfered it to the destination machine.  Installation failed ... it said that numerous files were missing from different CAB files.  I tried again ...  the second time I had better luck ... the installation seemed to take.  Using the License Manager, I activated my installation using my development license (my deployment license hasn't arrived yet).  I tried launching my application, and I get an exception that seems to indicate the ActiveX dlls aren't registered:
    Unhandled Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): C
lass not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))
       at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.CoCreateInstance(Guid& clsid, Obj
ect punkOuter, Int32 context, Guid& iid)
I tried registering these manually using
    regsvr32 "D:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1\API\DotNet\Assemblies\CurrentVersion\NationalInstruments.TestStand.Interop.UI.AxControls.dll"
but it complains that this DLL has no DllRegisterServer entry point.  (Is it the wrong DLL to register?)
I tried uninstalling my deployment and installing the full teststand ... and SeqEdit seems to run properly.  (It must have registered the required DLLs, no?)  My app, on the other hand, still does not run. I am trying to install Visual Studio to see if I can rebuild the application on this system with better results.
Have I missed an important step?
    Thanks!

    LabCat,
That's correct.  If you have the build set as Any Platform, when you install that on a 64-bit machine, the project will try to load the 64-bit versions of those assemblies, which don't exist.  You have to make sure your project is building specifically for x86 so it will run properly on a 64-bit machine.  I believe TestStand 4.2 or 4.2.1 ships with OIs that have this set as the default setting in the .NET OI source code, but your earlier version may not have had that corrected.

  • Is it legal to delete ei.cfg from Windows 7 installation media?

We know it's possible to delete the ei.cfg file in order to create media that will install any version of Windows 7.  But is it legal to delete that file and create new media to install another version than that for which the original media was intended?

We know it's possible to delete the ei.cfg file in order to create media that will install any version of Windows 7.  But is it legal to delete that file and create new media to install another version than that for which the original media was intended?
What is possible and what is legal are two different subjects.
To answer your specific question, the answer depends on your intentions. The link to the information about the ei.cfg file is under the heading of the Windows Automated Installation Kit and is also associated with the Windows System Image Manager (Windows SIM), ImageX, Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM), Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE), and the  User State Migration Tool (USMT).
These tools and information are clearly meant for the ITPro who may be creating custom installation media for deployment across an organization with a large number of systems that would typically be using volume license keys.
For a typical home user who has one or more systems, you purchase a version of Windows which includes a product key for that specific version that is designed to install on one computer. The installation disk included with that product key is designed to install only the version that was purchased and can be activated with that product key.
Microsoft does not normally distribute 'trial' versions of Windows, unless there are special circumstances such as the recent Windows 7 beta where there were 2 official versions (Beta and RC) and an evaluation version (Enterprise RTM). All of these versions are time limited and will eventually stop working, which will require the user to purchase a retail version if they decide to keep using the product.
The product key is everything. This represents the license type (OEM or Retail) and version (Starter, Home premium, etc) that you have purchased and authorizes you to install one copy of Windows, on one computer, that can be activated using that product key. Installing a copy of any other version or type would be a clear violation of the licensing agreement.
Disclaimer: The foregoing is my opinion only. The Windows EULA (End User License Agreement) is a legal document and is subject to interpretation. The only way that you can receive a definitive answer for licensing questions is by contacting Microsoft. Use the following link. Product Sales and Licensing Solution Center
    Hope this helps.
Thank You for using Windows 7

  • NI TestStand 2010 Installer not found

    Hi,
I am trying to deploy a TestStand system but it keeps saying
Insert the CD or browse to the location where the following component is located:
    NI TestStand 2010 Installer.
The last directory this component was found was:
    C:\Documents and Settings\smcmahon\Desktop
I have inserted all four labVIEW 2010 CD's 1/3, 2/3, 3/3 and Devices and drivers.
I also tried downloading TestStand2010Patch276751 and TestStand4.0.1f1Patch236977 to see if these would fix the issue, whcih they did not.
I suspect that I have downloaded an update to the desktop, unfortunately I recently erased all my downloads and cleared my desktop.
Does anyone know what file I need to download?
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Hi Sean,
Thanks for using the NI Forums!
The reason you are seeing this error message is due to the TestStand engine not being cached on the PC. What I would recommend is to download TestStand 2010 evaluation ( https://lumen.ni.com/nicif/us/teststand3/content.xhtml ) if you do not have the installer discs or from ni.com/src if you are entitled to the files. The patch applications will only contain the patches rather than the full installers.
When you try and build the installer, browse to the location of the downloaded TestStand installer.
Please let me know how you get on!

  • HT3910 Obtaining installation media/files

             Hi all:
I am an IT manager for a company that has an older 24" Intel based iMac.  The machine was purchased prior to my coming onboard and had been replaced with newer Macs. There isn't anything wrong the unit so I'd like to put it back into production as a workstation for freelancers that visit infrequently. I want to completely reimage the unit prior to deployment.  The problem is I can't find any discs or manuals that came with it when it was purchased.  The only information I have is the order information (MacMall, date of purchase, order number, etc.)
The purchase information shows that it originally came with OS X 10.5.  But I'm guessing that with the 3 year Extension plan that was purchased with it the option to upgrade was available since it is currently running OS X 10.6.8.
My question is where and how do I get the installation media to erase and reinstall the OS if the original disc cannot be located?  Is there a way?
    Thanks!

Niel,  thanks for taking time to respond.
I will need to read up on the benefits of iLife and Apple Hardware Test as I'm not familiar with those.
Am I to understand that there is no method for downloading and burning the content myself to DVD without any cost involved?  I just assumed that since the unit was purchased and licensed with those OS levels that material should be available somewhere without cost.
    Thanks again.

  • SCCM Standalone USB to Installation Media ....HELP!

Hi there, I have a standalone media on USB from our SCCM server for our machines that are no attached to our domain. They are on a workgroup. I am using Serva to deploy Windows 7 to our clients on the workgroup, however this media will not deploy in the
structure it is in. Is there any way of being able to manipulate the SCCM Media which is made for bootable deployment to each machine to an installation media format?
    Thanks for your time

    Hi,
Connecting the printer to a router's USB port (aka. print server) will only allow you basic print functionality , it won't provide you any scan functionality, faxing from the computer, ink levels or any operation of the HP Solution Center program.
To get full functionality you must work with the provided functionality which means USB connection directly to a single PC or Ethernet connection to a router.. therefore using an Ethernet router will be the preferred solution for you.
In order to setup the printer as you described you should connect the printer to the USB port and go to Control Panel > System. click add a printer and add it through the network.. there might be a need to enter your wireless homepage to enable the printer through the USB, there might be additional setup information in there.. that veries between different print servers and you may contact Huawei support or your ISP for any assistant within the print server configuration.

  • Installation Media and newer versions of the OS on install media.

I am looking for any resources for getting updated installation media throughout an operating system life cycle. I am unable to find this on the Apple Store. We have a deployment system that would like to be able to install from the installation media to each type of hardware. The process means nothing in my question.
What I need to know is there any way to get a copy of each os update on an install media rather than wait till it comes out and hope what you purchase will be the current. I am not looking to install for older media sources and the updating as that will break at some point.

If none of the items on this page is what you're looking for, Apple doesn't offer that.

  • TestStand Deployment Not Installing Files

    TestStand 3.1
We have created a custom OI and Process Model and we have attempted to
create an installer using the TestStand Deployment Utility.  The
problem is that when the installer is first run on the target system,
some files are not being installed.  We had a similar problem with
the Distribution Kit functiontionality of CVI 6, and were never able to
    fully resolve the issue.
Basically the installer examines files that already exist on the target
machine and will not overwrite them if they have been modified.
The installer is smart enough to examine version numbers inherent to
DLLs and EXE files (and adding REINSTALLMODE=amus to setup.ini causes
these types of files to always be overwritten).  However, for
other files such as *.ini and *.seq files, there seems to be no way to
force the installer to overwrite these files.
The workaround that we used previously was to run the installer 3 times
(once to install, once to uninstall which deletes all files including
the old versions that were not overwritten, and then once to actually
install the desired files).  Is there a way around this with the
TestStand Deployment Utility?  We are actually considering
bypassing the installer altogether and just copying the files in the
image directory that the Deployment Utility creates.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for the information. I am not sure if the installer will recognize the sequence file version number. Are you deploying a Process Model from the NI folder, or have you copied it into the User folder? Are you adding the Process Model and INI files to a project in your workspace and deploying the workspace or are you deploying them by selecting to Deploy Files in TestStand User Directories on the System Source tab of the Deployment Utility?
In other words, what file specifically are not being installed correctly? What is their path on the development machine and what is the target path?
One last question, if the target is a new system and has not had a TestStand test system deployed to it, how does it have sequence and TestStand INI files on it already? Are you installing TestStand on the target machine before deploying a test system?
