Text file reading in Oracle9i Procedure

Dear experts,
How we can read Text File in Oracle9i Procedure.
Thanks in advance

can we read a file like this ??
PROCEDURE PROCESS_AGAIN IS
     filename           varchar2(13) := 'c:\temp\RECIPIENT.TXT';
     file_handle TEXT_IO.FILE_TYPE;
     newline           varchar2(4000);
BEGIN
     file_handle := TEXT_IO.FOPEN(filename, 'R');
     LOOP
          TEXT_IO.GET_LINE(file_handle,newline);
/* Process */
     END LOOP;
EXCEPTION
     WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
          TEXT_IO.FCLOSE(file_handle);
END;

  • Text/File Reader that will resize/reformat Text for easy reading.

    I've used a couple of Text/File reader Apps; but with all of them,
    you have the choice of zooming out to see enough of a page to
    see an entire line of text, which is way too tiny to read, or zooming
    in so that it's easy to read, but then needing to scroll back and forth
    to read each line.
    Is there a reader that will display text large enough to read, and
    reflow/reformat the text so that it's all on the screen?
    Thanks, Jim.

    I found that Stanza does a great job reformatting most file types for reading on the iPodT. You do need the Mac OSX software for Stanza to transfer files to the iPodT so that you can read them with Stanza.
    I'm happy; but I wish the answer had been easier to find!
    Jim.

  • Producing text file from PL/SQL procedure (UTL_FILE)?

    Hi,
    I need to produce a text file from a PL/SQL procedure. My output should be a little over 38K records and my query has 70 fields. I'd like to separate the fields by pipe delimiters in the text file. I can either concatenate all 70 fields into one variable for each record or send all 70 fields over with a pipe, whichever is easier. It looks like I can't spool within PL/SQL but UTL_FILE might be an option from what I'm reading. Does anyone have any good, simple example(s) to produce a text file using this package in calling multiple fields from a LOOP? Our os is UNIX and db is Oracle 9i.
    Also, I've read that UTL_FILE has a record output of 1,023 bytes. Is this for each record line or the whole file size? I belive the max # of characters for each line wouldn't exceed 500 characters. The 38K rows I have for the data set would be well over 1MB. If this is the case, is there a work around to produce a larger text file?
    Any suggestions and/or examples would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Assuming the goal is to create a text file on the database server, you can use UTL_FILE here. Each line can be 1023 characters, but you can have as many lines as you'd like.
    Tom Kyte has an example here

  • Text file reading and writing problem

    Hello ! i am working on an electronic diary project and i am using Netbeans for that... i have finished all the rest but i am stuck into the saving of the appointments which i have been making.. i am using text files to save the entries ...what i am doing currently is that i am creating a file of every date which a user selects in the combobox.but if i want to add more appointment on the same date , then it overwries the previous one. i need to write something which can store multiple appointments in the same file.
    the writing code is:
    try {
    String aa = jTextField1.getText();
    String ab = jTextField2.getText();
    String ac =(String)jComboBox2.getSelectedItem();
    String ad =(String)jComboBox3.getSelectedItem();
    String ae = jTextField5.getText();
    String af =(String)jComboBox1.getSelectedItem();
    String ag = jTextArea1.getText();
    String outputFileName = ab+ac+ad+".txt";
    FileWriter outputFileReader = new FileWriter(outputFileName);
    PrintWriter outputStream = new PrintWriter(outputFileReader);
    PrintWriter outputStream1 = new PrintWriter(outputFileReader);
    PrintWriter outputStream2 = new PrintWriter(outputFileReader);
    PrintWriter outputStream22 = new PrintWriter(outputFileReader);
    PrintWriter outputStream3 = new PrintWriter(outputFileReader);
    outputStream.write(aa);
    outputStream1.write(ae);
    outputStream2.write(af);
    outputStream3.write(ag);
    outputStream.close();
    } catch (IOException e) {
    System.out.println("IOException:");
    e.printStackTrace();
    when i read the code , it doesnot reads the one which i store the text in new line...
    thanks

    Hi Dear
    Actually apending in your file is False so that it is overwriting this. do one thing open append option then it will add your data. for this just user true as the parameter with file name as i write in the below line. bedefault overwriting is false. you have to make this true.
    BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("Out.csv",true));
    try this your problem will solve.

  • Text file: reading char one at a time line by line

    I need to read an external .txt file, one character at a time, line by line, and compare each character in order to do various things. The problem is that when I use the Buffered Reader I have only readLine() method and others to work with, but none that actually read a character at a time, and line by line. The program has to read a character, then move to the next one and read it, and so on. Then move to the next line, and read the first character, and so on. I am working with chars not Strings. Could you please help me with this problem?

    InputStreamReader can read a single char.
    InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(InputStream in);
    isr.read(); will return 1 character from "in".

  • Read from Text File - Help Bug?

    Hi - I am currently working on LV8 and I think that there is some misunderstanding potential in the help file. To be more exact in the help to the "Read From Text File" VI.
    The description for "count":
    " ... If count is <0, the function reads the entire file. The
    default is –1, which indicates to read a single line if you placed a checkmark
    next to the Read Lines shortcut menu item and to read the
    entire file if you removed the checkmark next to the item. "
    If count is lower than zero, the function reads the entire file. That sounds clear to me.
    The default is -1, which indicates to read a single line if you placed a checkmark next to the "Read Lines" shortcut menu item. Now what? Does it read a single line or the whole file?
    .. and to read the entire file if you removed the checkmark next to the item. I thought it reads the whole file if I use -1 ?
    the VI itself behaves as I'd expect it to:
    * If I place a checkmark next to Read Lines and put -1, I get an array containing the lines
    * If I remove the checkmark, I get only a single string item.
    Now where is the error? Is the VI not working properly or only the description a little bit ... strange ?

    ?hein??
    ?what?
    Both you guys lost me..
    And I drink coffee without sugar (being sweet enough, already)
    Here is what I get from Context Help on the Read From Text File:
    Read from Text File
    Reads a specified number of characters or lines from a byte stream file. By default, this function reads all characters from the text file. Wire an integer value to count to specify how many individual characters you want to read starting with the first character. Right-click the function and place a checkmark next to the Read Lines option in the shortcut menu to read individual lines from the text file. When you select the Read Lines option in the shortcut menu, wire an integer value to the count input to specify how many individual lines you want to read from the file starting with the first line. Enter a value of -1 in count to read all characters and lines from the text file.
    Humm.
    New feature (again)..  If you select checkmark the Read Lines option, it will not send the text to a sting indicator, as shown in the attached image.  If selected, then it's expecting to write lines to an array of strings...  WHY???  I don't know..  I'll ask..
    Strange...  LV8 is full of mysteries...

  • Getting repeated values when reading from a text file.

    I need to read from a text file. When the token encounters a particular word (command) I need to read the next line and perform some actions. However, this part is working but it is repeating the values again and again until it encounters the next particular word (command). Hope that someone will help me out, as always when I posted a problem in these forums.

    Thanks for your interest. Please ignore SetOperations class, it is just the class containing the methods and it works correctly since I checked it without reading from a text file. I marked the part where I think lies my problem in class SetTestOperations.
    The information in the text file is as follows:
    membera
    Hillman
    membera
    Skoda
    membera
    Honda
    membera
    Toyota
    and the result is:
    [0] Hillman
    Number of set members: 1
    [0] Hillman
    [1] Skoda
    Number of set members: 2
    [0] Hillman
    [1] Skoda
    [2] Honda
    Number of set members: 3
    [0] Hillman
    [1] Skoda
    [2] Honda
    [3] Toyota
    Number of set members: 4
    instead of just one set:
    [0] Hillman
    [1] Skoda
    [2] Honda
    [3] Toyota
    Number of set members: 4
    Hope it is easier to understand like this.

    I want to create a folder in D drive and give folder name as current date. After that create no. of text files based on how many procedure are,  text file name will be same as procedures name and insert a procedures inside the text files by using stored
    procedure.
    You can use generate scripts wizard for this. It will by default give scripts in .sql format. You can then use a command line script to change all of them to .txt.
    Another option is to have SSIS package and use File SYstem Task to rename it to .txt

    pls can you help me

    Yes there is you need to use the uniqueMessageSeparator property. Have a look at the following link for its implementation.

            System.out.println("Term>>>" +Term);
            System.out.println("Rate>>>" +Rate);
           // input.close ();
        }

    Okay, modify the code as below:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class Test7 {
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            String line             = null;
            StringTokenizer strTok  = null;
            int count          = 0;
            StringBuffer term  = new StringBuffer();
            StringBuffer rate  = new StringBuffer();
            BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader (new FileReader ("MortgageValues.txt"));
            while ((line = input.readLine()) != null) {
                strTok = new StringTokenizer(line);
                while(strTok.hasMoreTokens()) {
                    if(count%2 == 0)    term.append(strTok.nextToken()).append(",");
                    else                rate.append(strTok.nextToken()).append(",");
                    count++;
            term.deleteCharAt(term.length() -1);
            rate.deleteCharAt(rate.length() -1);
            System.out.println("term>>>" +term);
            System.out.println("rate>>>" +rate);
           input.close ();
    }Cheers!

  • Applescript to read data from text file

    Hello all, I am writing an Applescript to read a file and put that file's contents into a variable. However, when I use the applescript command "read", I get the error:
    The text file reads "4.65". I need to extract that number to show up in a dialog box. This is the code I have so far.
    set milefile to ("Macintosh HD:Users:RyanSiebecker:Documents:Scripts:Source-Files:Running-Files:milefile.tx t")
    set theFileContents to (read file milefile)
    I am stuck and I cannot find any other way to do this.
    As always, any help is appreciated.
    Thanks, Ryan

    Have you noticed that your file name's extension (".tx t") has a space in it?  Though that mismatch would get a -43 Not Found error, not EOF.
    Your code ( with and without the gapped extension) works here.
    Maybe the path isn't perfect?
    To make a perfect path easily, start with this:
         set milefile to POSIX file ("")  -- note the null string ("")
    Then arrange your windows so that you can drag the icon representing your file from wherever it is in the Finder's world into your AppleScript Editor's window, and carefully drop it right between the ""s.
    If you miss, don't worry.  It'll be selected, so just Cut and then Paste it between the ""s.  You'll get a perfect path, only with slashes instead of colons.  The "POSIX file" specifier converts it to "colon notation", still perfectly.

  • Manual Export to Text files

    Hi all,
    I have done the logic to manually export oracle data to text files through java classes. but when we tried to execute the script in test server, there were some column values missed out.
    I have used the very basic procedure.
    "SELECT * FROM table Name". and writing the records to a text file using file writer.
    Can anyone make it clear what could be the reason for the missing records?
    Thanks in advance.

    No, I have not used Spool. Just writing to the text file using file writer. missed records are no the last one. some values in the middle.
    for example (delimited coulmn values)
    fname|lname|ssn|age|gender|country|zip
    aaa|bbb|123|24||india|12345
    gender cant be null, but i am getting empty record value for gender in text file.

  • Can I Export to Text File?

    hi,
    can i export my ical events to a text file?
    thanks.
    samantha

    I have figured out a way to do this with free available programs:
    Download this program:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/faview.html
    Faview will allow the bookmarks exported in html format to be saved as a text file. This text file is in a uniform state.
    Open the text file with a spreadsheet program. I used the free program called spread32.exe that can be found anywhere on the internet.
    Highlight all the columns and do a sort by Column A. The urls will now be in alphabetical order at the bottom of the spreadsheet. Cut and paste into a new text file.

  • How do I add multiple text block records from text file?

    The data manager documentation (page 151) for MDM 5.5 SP3 indicates that one or more new text blocks can be added to the Text Blocks object table from files. It is noted that the files must be plain text files.
    I use notepad and create a text file with two lines as follows:
    Test 1
    Test 2
    When I try to add the text blocks following documentation mentioned above, it only adds one record for the Data Group I have chosen and the record contains the entry "Test 1" from the first line in the text file.
    How can I add multiple records to the data group from a file?

    From my testing it appears that you need to have one text file per text block record in Data Manager.
    I wrote VBA macro to so that I could input my text blocks into an Excel spreadsheet and then the macro will take the contents of each cell in a highlighted column and create one text file per cell.
    Then using Data manager, I can select all of the text files at once and it will import them, creating one record per text file.

    Hi,
    As far as i understand from your requirements, it like you need all the data item leve into a text file.
    You can fetch all the relevant data from variuos tables and then use  GUI_Download into a text file.
