Text format tags in contextual help

Can someone point me to the documentation for text format tags available for tex entered in VI Documentation. I am familiar with the bold tag (blah), but I was wondering if there are any other tags available, for instance, to make the text italic...
thanks

Given that the help for the Documentation window under VI Properties explicitly refers to the bold tag and nothing else ("Use <B> and </B> tags around any text in the description you want to format as bold."), I'd say it's likely that there isn't any additional formatting available. There's no mention of any formatting options at all in the LabVIEW User Manual...
Maybe someone in the LabVIEW Technical Communications group at NI is lurking and can offer any insider info that is available, but a quick tour of the palette of built-in functions with Context Help enabled suggests that bold text is the convention for input and output variable names and no other formatting is available.

  • Run time data binding via FormCalc/JavaScript+wrong text formating

    Hello Everybody
    I need to print a text block with company details depending on company code (different details for different codes). I tried to use this code for event "calculate":
    if ($record.LS_HEADER.BUKRS == "1000") then
    $ = $record.COMP_DETAILS_1000
    elseif ($record.LS_HEADER.BUKRS == "1000") then
    $ = $record.COMP_DETAILS_2000
    endif
    $record.COMP_DETAILS_1000, $record.COMP_DETAILS_2000 are elements from the form context which are linked to textmodules.
    This code works and it prints correct textmodules for different company codes. But the printed text is not formated like text in the textmodules. The most important thing here is that these texts are always printed as a single long string and I need paragraphs like in the textmodules. It's a problem... If I use a statical binding (without FormCalc programming) the text modules will be printed with correct formating.
    Using of checkbox "Allow Multiline Lines" hasn't helped here...
    Have you any idea how should I do the run time data binding?
    Thank you very much in advance!

    Hello,
    the important part is "If I use a statical binding (without FormCalc programming) the text modules will be printed with correct formating." That means you can get the text in the shape you want. Just do that. Get all the texts. Next use the JS/FC scripting to hide all but one text. You get only one text to display and you use static binding to get the proper text format.
    Hope this helps, Otto

  • Help with text format

    I am attempting to emulate an example in shown in:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/Books/gui/swing2/swing2_chap11.pdf
    With the following code
    fieldFormat = new NameFormat();
    JFormattedTextField rField = new JFormattedTextField(fieldFormat);
    rField.setColumns(15);
    rField.setValue(initialValue);
    class NameFormat extends Format {
         public StringBuffer format(Object obj, StringBuffer toAppendTo, FieldPosition fieldPosition) {
              fieldPosition.setBeginIndex(toAppendTo.length());
              String str = obj.toString();
              char prevCh = ' ';
              for (int k=0; k<str.length(); k++) {
                   char nextCh = str.charAt(k);
                   if (Character.isLetter(nextCh) && prevCh == ' ')
                        nextCh = Character.toTitleCase(nextCh);
                   toApendTo.append(nextCh);
                   prevCh = nextCh;
              fieldPosition.setEndIndex(toAppendTo.length());
              return toAppendTo;
    }I get the following error:
    FormattedField.NameFormat should be declared abstract; it does not define parseObject(java.lang.String,java.text.ParsePosition) in java.text.Format
    Therefore I determined there must be methods missing. Upon looking I find the following two other methods defines for Format .
    formatToCharacterIterator(Object obj) {}
    parseObject(String source, ParsePosition pos) {}
    The problem is I am unable to determine what the methods should do or look like if added to NameFormat.
    Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Try deleting the .plists for Adobe Acobat.
    Quit the application.
    You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences.  Move the .plist(s) to your desktop.
    Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
    If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
    If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
    You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Contextual help and Merged projects (CHM format)

    I am trying to use contextual help with a merged help project. I use RH11. My help project SSL is Microsoft HTML Help. I find no way to get the contextual help to work for topics inside the children projects. Either I can display the topic but the TOC does not follow, or it is the other way round....

    setting up context sensivity for H'TML help can be easy or
    complicated, depending on your requirements.
    The very easy way: Set up your master and slaves as
    essentially independent helps. Users will see a separate help when
    calling up context-sensitve help for a slave.
    The sort of easy way: Do the same as above but define the
    window name of all project as $global_<your desired window
    name>. This will let all helps shown in the same window. You can
    seamlessly navigate from the ToC to any part of your help system.
    When calling up context sensitive help for a topic of one of your
    slaves, the user will see the ToC for this slave only.
    The cool way: Do the same as above and open the Advanced
    Properties dialog box of the Window Definition in each of your
    slaves. In the field Table of Contents, enter:
    <Master>.chm::/<Master>.hhc
    where <Master> would be the name of the CHM of your
    master project.
    You can also use:
    <Master>.chm::/<Homepage of your master>.htm
    in the Home field, where <Homepage of your master> is
    the internal path and filename of the homepage of your master
    project.
    This way would give you the complete merged help system
    regardless of how it is called up. So when the user calls up
    context sensitive help of one of hte slave topics, he sees this
    topic and the complete ToC of all projects. When clicking Home, he
    is referred to the homepage of the master.
    The problem is that RoboHelp - at least up to version X5 -
    likes misinterpreting this settings and writing a defective HHP for
    the compilation. This may result in a slave help without any ToC,
    e.g..
    If you seldomly have to re-compile a slave, this leads to
    great results, but if you overhaul your projects regularly, expect
    to spend some time on getting it straight every now and then and be
    prepared to learn working with MS HTML Help Workshop and/or FAR to
    do the final compilations.

  • Formatting Tags appearing in TextArea Component

    I'm having an issue with TextFormat tags that are appearing
    in textfields. Here's an overview of what I'm doing:
    Basically, I'm trying to grab the text from a textArea
    component: (myText = myTextArea.text")
    Because I want to retain formatting, I have the textArea set
    to be html.
    Thus, myText becomes the text you see below
    So the myText data is then stored in XML, but later when I
    try to access it, it fills that same textArea component with the
    literal code rather than the formatted text. How do I take that
    TextFormat string and convert it back to it's original form? I've
    tried myTextArea.htmlText but I guess that isn't it. Thanks for the
    help!
    Thanks!

    Let me make my question easier to understand: ;-)
    I've got the text formatting (below) in a string. Using that
    string, how do I display the text it contains correctly?
    Thanks!

  • How to provide text formatting options to user from a text field

    Hi,
    My requirement is - in the interactive form, a comments field needs to be provided where user should be able to enter text with formatting options like
    Headers
    indentations
    bold/italic
    bullet points and numbers
    Once user enters the formatted texts in a text field, data needs to be displayed/printed in the same format. Could you help me on how to provide these formatting options to the user for a particular text field?
    I understand that once I define the text field with format XHTML (with RTF), user formatting can be captured and displayed in the same way. But I am not sure on how to provide the formatting options for the text field.
    Thank you,
    Madhu

    Hi,
    if you select a text field for Rich Text and the press Ctrl + E you'll get a bar for all available text formatting options in Acrobat/Reader.

  • Text formatting options

    Hi,
    Is there a list somewhere which outlines more text formatting options than what is shown in the FAQ?
    In particular I'm wondering how to make text that does not suppress white space other than using the "code" tag.
    Also, the insert link option a shown above does not seem to work, or am I just stupid?
    Thanks.

    Dude wrote:
    Also, the insert link option a shown above does not seem to work, or am I just stupid?That one has not been working for a couple of years or so. There should be a thread about it in this forum.
    Instead, I'm using [ url=<insert link here> ] text [ /url ] (without the extra spaces in tags). Normal html link tag might work as well.

  • How can I show only text edits and not text formatting when using print comments summary?

    Acrobat 9.3.0 for Mac.
    Here is the scenario: I used the Compare command to see the changes between 2 PDFs. The resulting file some edits are inserts and some are deletions. I want to print a comments summary only showing the text edits. In the Compare Option pane, I select Text and deselect Images, Annotations, Formatting, Headers/Footers, and Backgrounds. Now on the screen I see inserts are highlighted in blue and deletions are marked with sort of a caret and vertical bar symbol. So all looks good at this point. However, when I show the Comments List, I see addtional comments that indicate "Replace - The following text attributes were changed: fill color." Those comments do not appear in the page view unless I check the Formatting check box to show them. With Formatting unchecked, I print a comments summary and all of the "Replace - Fill Color" comments" appear on the resulting comments summary.
    I only want to show text edits, not text formatting changes. So questions are:
    1. Why, when the Formatting checkbox is unchecked, do the text formatting comments still appear in the comments list when they do not appear on the page display.
    2. How can I print only the text content edits and not show the text formatting changes when using Print Comments Summary.

    Hi,
    You can set ExecuteWithParams as default activity in the task flow then method activity to return total no of rows passing to Router activity if your method has value 0 then call Create insert operation else do directly to page.
    Following idea could be your task flow
    Execute With param (default) > SetCurrentRowWithKey > GetTotalNoOfRows (VOImpl Method)
    |
    v
    Router
    1. If pageFlowScope outcome is 0 then call CreateInsert > MyPage
    2. if pageFlowScope outcome > 0 then MyPage
    hope it helps,

  • Can't select vertical text formatting since Win 7

    Please help.
    Have recently upgraded to win 7 and now I cannot select any text formatting options in the drop down text menus. I can see them, but the drop down menu buttons don't work.
    Has anyone had this happen?
    I have spent so much time on the computer and it's so hard to get any work done.
    Advice would be much appreciated
    I would like to go back to XP but the computer guy says that's not possible.
    Thanks
    ZeeBud

    Thank you so much for responding Peter. I feel one step closer to being able to get my work done.
    Your solution means that I can now use the tools in the tools palette, but no luck with being able to use the text selection drop down menus.
    It's quizzical. I can select the fonts by clicking through file the file path> type> font. Just not through drop downs.
    Any thoughts anyone?

  • Changing text size in form field (rich text formatting enabled)

    Hi all,
    I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I've created an interactive PDF with form fields with "Rich Text Formatting" enabled.
    My client has filled in the fields and would like to make the text bigger. When right-click, there are only options to change the text style (bold, italics etc) but nothing to change the text size. I'm not keen on disabling and then re-enabling the "Rich Text Formatting" options as the text have been formatted (bold, italics, superscript, subscript etc) and approved, and this will remove all the existing formatting.
    Can anyone help?
    Acrobat 9.4.6
    Mac 10.6.8
    Cheers,
    Tricia

    Thanks so much!! Really appreciated!
    Strangely enough, I found the Form Field Text Properties dialogue box by randomly choosing "Hyperlink" in the right-click options. Who would have thought!

  • An editable region, how to keep text formatting?

    Hello fellas.
    Is there any way to keep the text formatting when I paste it
    into my edible region of the template?
    Every time I attempt it - dreamweaver gives me message "
    making this change would require code change which is locked by a
    template". The only way to paste anything into a region is by
    turning off any copy/paste text formatting completely, which is
    painful to edit, especially with a large number of articles.
    Would greatly appreciate any help.

    This is a common alert when the page you are working on
    contains *any*
    coding anomalies (perhaps in a location other than the
    editable region).
    Does the page validate before the paste? Does the code you
    are pasting
    validate?
    The answer is, of course, it's possible to retain formatting
    (provided all
    code is valid). What app are you pasting from?

  • How to apply text formatting immediately?

    Hello!
    I apply text formatting to the empty newly created text flow. It seems to be strange that the formatting is not applied immediately, but when I start editing.
    The small sample demonstrates the problem.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application
    xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"layout="
    vertical"creationComplete="onCreationComplete()"

    import flash.text.engine.RenderingMode;
    import flash.text.engine.FontLookup;
    import flashx.textLayout.formats.TextLayoutFormat;

    import flashx.textLayout.edit.EditManager;
    import flashx.textLayout.container.ContainerController;
    import flashx.textLayout.elements.TextFlow;
    private var textFlow:TextFlow;
    private function onCreationComplete():void {
    var container:Sprite = new Sprite();canvas.rawChildren.addChild(container);
    var containerController:ContainerController = new ContainerController(container, canvas.width, canvas.height);textFlow=
    new TextFlow();textFlow.flowComposer.addController(containerController);
    textFlow.interactionManager=
    new EditManager();textFlow.flowComposer.updateAllControllers();
    private function onClick():void {
    var charFormat:TextLayoutFormat = new TextLayoutFormat();
    var containerFormat:TextLayoutFormat = new TextLayoutFormat();
    var paragraphFormat:TextLayoutFormat = new TextLayoutFormat();charFormat.fontSize=36;
    textFlow.interactionManager.selectAll();
    (textFlow.interactionManager
    as EditManager).applyFormat(charFormat, paragraphFormat, containerFormat);textFlow.interactionManager.refreshSelection();
    textFlow.flowComposer.updateAllControllers();
    ]]>
    </mx:Script>
    <mx:Canvas id="canvas"width="
    200"height="
    200" borderStyle="solid"/>
    <mx:Button id="button"label="
    Push me"click="onClick()"
    />
    </mx:Application>
    When you click the button new font size is set. But the cursor in text field is not changed to a bigger one until I start editing. Also if to look at the textFlow internals in debugger you can see that new font size is not set...
    How can I force this?
    Kind Regards

    This is arguably a bug with a few things conspiring to cause the problem.  The general idea is that each paragraph ends with a paragraph terminator and the final terminator isn't selectable - that seems to be the core of the problem.  The other conspirator is that with a point selection character level format changes aren't applied until the next character is entered.  So with an empty document you always have a point selection. I could see character level format changes applying instantly to empty paragraphs.  I'll file a bug for more investigation.
    As for workarounds - well there's always direction model calls - just set the format directly on the span.  Another possibility would be to detected exactly this case and insert a character and then undo it.
    Note in your sample code the refreshSelection and updateAllControllers calls after applyFormat are redundant and can be safely removed.  Also any of the formats passed to applyFormat can be null.
    Hope that helps,
    Richard
