Contextual help and Merged projects (CHM format)

I am trying to use contextual help with a merged help project. I use RH11. My help project SSL is Microsoft HTML Help. I find no way to get the contextual help to work for topics inside the children projects. Either I can display the topic but the TOC does not follow, or it is the other way round....

The problem is that RoboHelp - at least up to version X5 -
likes misinterpreting this settings and writing a defective HHP for
the compilation. This may result in a slave help without any ToC,
e.g..
If you seldomly have to re-compile a slave, this leads to
great results, but if you overhaul your projects regularly, expect
to spend some time on getting it straight every now and then and be
prepared to learn working with MS HTML Help Workshop and/or FAR to
do the final compilations.

Many of us here on the forums subscribe via E-Mail. So as
each post is made, it arrives in our in-box.
Those of us that operate in this manner tend to notice
immediately when the same person posts repeatedly to different
categories. In your case, by posting only a link, it first appeared
to be a spam bot. That happens a lot. We see where a person will
obtain a forum ID and login, then begin saturating forum categories
with nothing but a link that points back to some obscure web site.
I'm not certain, but it may be an attempt to garner better search
rankings on Google or something. So we are a bit hypersensitive to
that as a result.
We also see where a person is a bit on the frustrated or
antsy side and does the whole post to one category, then copy and
paste that post to every other category. In those cases, we figure
that the person is simply impatient and doesn't realize that all
categories are being monitored by the same folks. We tend to fix
these up by posting back and pointing links to a common thread so
that later if someone searches the forums for an answer and we
aren't around, they don't end up following five dead end posts
where nobody answered and yet the sixth (where an answer was
provided) was there but overlooked because they grew frustrated and
gave up.
Sorry if we appeared grumpy or unhelpful. That's never our
intent. As Colum said, we tend to pride ourselves on being fast and
accurate with our helpful answers.

RH9 - problem with ID mapping and HTMLHelp merged projects

I have a merged project with a couple of baggage files (.chm), some .h files.
When the application opens the merged project file, it cannot find the topic ID.

                                      HH_HELP_CONTEXT,
                                      (DWORD_PTR)help_id );
A zero handle is returned. When we were using RH5 (from where we moved the project), everything worked fine.
All mapping IDs are yellow with a lock on them, FWIW.
Any help appreciated.

Sorry to go off-topic on your post...but I have a question in relation to how you deploy your login module. Do you deploy the login module with your application ? I've developed a login module that I would like to deploy by itself, I currently deploy it with the calculator example and it works fine like this, but I need to deploy it by itself. Any tips you can give would be greatly appreciated.
I've tried to use the deploytool and deploy the module as a library...but I get a "cannot load a login module" in the logs when authenticating a user.

Urgent - HTML help merged projects - displaying in the same window

Hi All,
Following some recent windows updates I'm experiencing all sorts of problems. My most urgent problems is as follows:
First off this is all in RH8 and yes I have upgraded to 8.0.2 and project is set to re-build cpd each time.
So I have a merges project as follows:
Parent project
child project 1
chils project 2 etc
when I compile an html help project with TOC, and single source window settings on default if I click on a child project it is diaplyued in a separate window. If I then select a different project in the parent project TOC this is also displayed in a different window but the window still has the caption of the previously opened file.
What I need as the end result is for my HTML help project output to al display in the same window whether I click on a parent project item, or a child project item.
Please can somebody advise mne how to do this as I am VERY close to a deadline and as usual it seems RH8 has let me down again.....

Hi there
Methinks Colum needs more coffee, because the options he cited have nothing to do with other windows. They have to do with whether the displayed topic synchronizes with the TOC and whether the TOC entry is highlighted.
I'm thinking it has to do with creating a "Global" window. You change the names of the windows so they include Global.

How start your projects? (and maintain the original format)

This is my question, exist a "better way" for start a good and clean project in Indesign?
For example, a common case:
-The writer send me a word file
-I use command PLACE for import the word file
- I maintain the format (cursives, bolds, etc.)
-In ID i delete the "paragraph styles" and the "character styles" of Word but i preserv the "aparence".
In this case, this is my problem, i create a Paragraph Style (Arial regular 12, black) and i apply to a paragraph:

So, change to Arial...etc...erasing the cursives and bolds:

¿How maintain the cursives and bold when i applied a style?

Search and index functions don't work with merged projects

Until this morning, the search and index functions in my RoboHelp project worked okay; I have one Main project into which I have merged more than three dozen sub-projects. About an hour ago, I created a new sub-project and merged it into the Main project; now, it's as if the topics in my merged projects don't exist.
Any suggestions?

So when you open the merge you see all the content, it is just the search and index not working. This must be merged CHMs as you are talking about a Favourites tab so maybe your other comment is relevant. My understanding of merged CHMs is that you do not want spaces in file names, that could be the problem.

Migrate Backups.backupdb Folder to new disk AND MERGING 3 Systems HELP

Hey everybody. I need some help migrating and merging some old Time Machine backups. The partition on the new drive where I have to move the data is where I've been doing my current TM backups, so it has it's own Backups.backupdb folder.
I WANT PanGalacticGargleBlasterDisk to look this:
DESIRED OUTCOME:

CURRENT SITUATION:

Constraints:
• I have no other drives big enough to clone this TM data to.

• I DO have Carbon Copy Cloner
• I am not terribly afraid to use the Terminal if necessary
I've had trouble moving the Backups.backupdb folder before, so I'm hoping someone out there understands all these file permissions better than I do. Thanks!

• You cannot merge two or more sets of backups, even for the same Mac.
I guess I would have to reformulate my immediate goal as:
A) Reformat the disk with the older TM data [Backups.backupdb(machineB, machineC)], while
B) Retaining the "powers and abilities" of those Time Machine backups so I can restore and boot from those systems in the near future.
That's more important than actually merging the TM backup folders.
NEW POSSIBLE SOLUTION?
Can get the data in the Backups.backupdb folders to reside on the same partition for just a little while? For example:
1. Create a disk image from the partition with [Backups.backupdb(machineB, machineC)].
2. Move the disk image to the on the same partition as the other Backups.backupdb(machineA) folder partition in non-functional state, NOT as a folder.
3. Reformat the now empty drive.
4. Restore the partition that had the [Backups.backupdb(machineB, machineC)] folder in it to some other partition in the future?
What would I need to check to make sure this works (permissions?, formatting?, PT type?, etc.)

IMovie HD/08: Need help merging projects from both versions.

I have some video that was imported using iMovie HD6 (saved to my internal hard drive with some editing already done) and some using iMovie 08. (Save to an external hard drive and unedited). I realized later that iMovie 08 lacks features available on iMovie HD6. I would like to move all video to my external hard drive and merge my projects. I would then like to edit the whole thing on iMovie HD6. I've noticed that I can simply drag my iMovie 08 project directly into iMovie HD6 and directly into my other project. However, it wants to save it to my internal hard drive. (No where near enough space on my internal drive for that). Is it safe to assume that if I were to move my iMovie HD6 project onto my external drive that it would then attempt to import/merge my iMovie 08 project keeping it on my external drive? Also, do I run a risk of losing any editing already done to my iMovie HD6 project if I move it to my external drive? If not, is there a right or wrong way to move it? Also, my external drive is connected to my computer via USB. Am I going to have any problems editing from my external drive because of that?

I am trying to transfer a movie project I made on my work computer (MacBook Pro, iMovie '08) to my home computer (iMovie HD, iBook). I've transferred the files using a Lacie, but when I open iMovie HD on my personal computer, it does not let me open the project I desire.
As you have already found, iMovie '08 projects, as such, are not backwards compatible with previous versions of iMovie. iMovie '08's project basically consists of a list of instructions detailing how a project is to be exported while previous versions of iMovie actually rendered physical file segments ordered properly in a physical timeline reference file.
I can import, but not the whole file, it keeps putting items in the trash. I have exported Mobile, Medium, and Large files.
Basically you have two options. You can either import your raw footage (the Event clips) and "re-create" a project in iMovie HD or export your iMovie '08 project, complete with edits to an HD compatible format (e.g., DV or AIC/AIFF) and import this file into iMovie HD. Unfortunately, this latter approach will not allow you to "manipulate" your previous edits.
Basically, I want to be able to open the file in iMovie, in case I wanted to duplicate it or edit it.
As indicated above, you can import iMovie '08 shared/exported files to iMovie HD but you then have to edit them as source files. To remove a previous edit, you would literally have to delete it from your new project in order to add another.
I also want to be able to continue burning copies of this movie slideshow to DVD (I created a DVD project using iDVD).
Previously authored and burned DVDs can be copy-burned by applications like Toast or used to create stored "image" files that can be used to burn new DVDs on an as needed basis in the Mac OS "Burn" folder or using the Disk Utility application. In fact the "image" file can also be created for this purpose from within iDVD.

RH8 - Publishing Merged Projects with AIR Browserbased Help

Hello,
i have one master project with 5 subprojects. When i make an Output with Adobe Air "Browserbased Help" is the preview ok, all tables of Content from all projects are included.
When i publish it to our webserver i first got a grey screen with an loading error.
I discovered that the link in the start site to the included file ac_oetags.js is incorrect because of upper and lower case writing. When i change the link, the site appeared correctly - but unfortunately only with the table of content of the main project.
Is it possible to merge Projects with Browserbased Help?
Has anybody an idea what went wrong?

In the Start Page field you define where you want to generate the help.
If you click the Server settings you define where you want to publish.
When you publish the parent it goes to \\servername\myrobohelp and it creates a folder called mergedProjects and subfolders for each child.
When you publish the children, your Server setting must point to those subfolders.
Does that clarify? If not, please add some screenshot using the camera icon so that the images are in the post as above.

Not new; merged projects with separate TOC and indices

As it turns out, I have three projects that will need to be
created:
Folder (1) for Admin users:
Administration
User Management
Users (General Contents)
Folder (2) for Approver/PM users:
User Management
Users (General Contents)
Folder (3) for Regular users:
Users (General Contents)
I'm unsure whether, in RH6, I will be able to generate
separate TOC and indices. Can someone tell me whether there's a
best approach in order to enable this functionality?

OK. Of course, nothing could be that easy, now can it? lol. I
have managed to create the structure as Peter has defined it, and
for the most part, things are looking good. I do, of course, still
have a few questions I'd like to ask before I proceed:
1. When Peter suggests I put the [Parent (No Content)] into
each of the three folders for the administrators to use on the
server, what exactly does the Parent content entail?
2. I'd like to understand better the difference between the
default topic and the start page, and how it works structurally. I
started by generating each of the child folders with the start page
(example: Intro.htm), but realized that using index.htm was
important not only for the parent, but for each of the child
projects that I set up. I just don't understand WHY it works that
way.
3. I set up Books in the TOC and used the Merged Help under
each book which, of course, when generated, display books within
books. Can I just move the projects and delete the Books
altogether? This may be obvious, but I want to make sure I'm not
undoing something I'm unaware of undoing (if that makes any sense
at all).
4. The server will be a Linux box; I have checked off the Use
Lowercase checkbox when generating all. Is there anything else I
should be doing to keep problems to a minimum?
5. Last but not least (if you've made it this far), I'd like
to know if it is any easier for the administrator, or myself, in
the long run, to be using RoboHelp 8. Because this looks like it
will be an ongoing project for at least five years, I want to make
sure I am working in the smartest way I can.

jpg does not support Layers.
Just to make sure, what exactly do you mean by "stacking photos" and what do you want to achieve thereby?

Try the other USB port. If it still doesn't show up in Disk Utility then there may be something wrong with your Mac. Try something else in each USB port and see if it is seen. If the other thing, like a USB thumb drive, does show up in disk utiltiy then the USB ports are fine.
Power down the system and restart with the drive connected, go to DU and see it it is seen.

Help required for slicing and merging file

I am working on p2p downloading application based on Gnutella. Right now i am trying to implement downlaoding one file from many hosts at a time(like limewire does). i am able to connect to multiple host. but dont know how to downlaod and merge file for his purpose.
i know how to download one file from single host. but dont know how to handle file coming from multiple hosts.
if anyone having knowledge, please tell as soon as possble.

fewer lines of code, it would be a great help for
me...i have too much short time...

stuff..........You shouldn't use serialization. Just invent a protocol, and "normal" binary data.
