Text (txt) file location

Hi everyone,
For some reason, if I try to import data from a txt file from a folder located on the same location as my movie file it doesn't work:
on startMovie()
  importFileInto(member "Contact", the applicationpath&"Documents\Contact.txt")
end
But if I move the txt file, next to my movie and change the lingo to:
on startMovie()
  importFileInto(member "Contact", the applicationpath&"Contact.txt")
end
It does work...
I am adding this lingo to a movie script.
Any ideas?
thank you in advance...
Rafa.

Sean,
Thank you for your time. I try what you menioned and I do get the alert window. But for some reason it is pointing to a different path than what I would like. See attached, please.
What do you think is the issue?
Rafa.

  • Problems with plain text (.txt) files

    I recently needed some tech. info to be loaded on my PlayBook (OS2.1), but I found that I could not open the files when on location. I had downloaded PlainTextEdit and several others, and have Ghost Commander file manager (which claims to be able to open text files, but none of the apps could find the files - they seem to be searching a different location from that used by the built in File Manager app - which sees the files, but can't locate a program to open them (I had transferred the files both from my Mac desktop and through DropBox).
    Does anyone know why this is happening?
    I have since taken to putting files on as PDF's, which works fine, but I'm still concerned that there are apps on my Playbook that are searching unknown locations.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Air Browser showed me the Android files that the other apps were searching - I can now move my files into that location.
    can you tell us the folder location for each of those two apps ?
    Maybe it would be nice if it was displayed in the help section of each of those two apps?
    Do you think you will contact those two  developers ?
    Hi Xandrex,
    What I see in AirBrowser is the normal file structure as shown by the built in file manager app, PLUS a directory called Miscelaneius, which contains a directory called 'Android', which is what the other apps (I assume they are both Android ports) search - they don't seem to be able to see the regular Playbook file structure.
    Using AirDrop as you suggested, I am able to copy my files into this Android file structue, and work on them.
    It would be very nice if Android ports could read the correct file structure, or at least warn users in advance, but as I am not likely to need any more apps, I won't bother to contact the developers about correcting this - even if they can, given the BB OS's emphasis on security.
    Thanks again for your help,
    Rhenner

  • How do I stop Apple Script from leaving a Text.txt file with each image downloaded using Photo Downloader in Adobe Photoshop CS4_Bridge???

    I use Adobe Photoshop CS4_Bridge _Photo Downloader to import images from CF Cards into my 11" Mac Book Air.  I have an issue with the Text files
    that seem to accompany each and every image that I do not need.  How do I stop Apple Script (which I assume is the culprit in this case)  from interferring with this process.

    Your iWeb Site is stored not on your iDisk, but on a file named Domain.sites in your ~/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ Folder.
    If , for whatever reason, you wipe your HD and/or lose this file (Get a new computer, Re-Install your OS, Stolen Laptop, Crashed HD, Etc.) without backing-up your Domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your iWeb sites from scratch again.
    Of course you can edit your Published HTML files in a different program such as Dreamweaver or even Text Edit. You just can't edit Published HTML files in iWeb. Not at this time at least.
    Use iWebBackup to backup your Domain file to a Blank CD or DVD. Backing up your Domain file to another folder on your computer is not fully backing it up. If your computer gets stolen you still lost the file but if you have your Domain file burned onto a CD you have a backup!
    Download iWebBackup Here
    You can use iWebExtender to automatically consolidate your files into one folder and delete multiple images.

  • Dynamic Text with external .txt files

    I need help getting dynamic text to display. I've used the
    following tutorials (among others).
    http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/dynamic_scroller.htm
    http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/multiple_dynamictext.htm
    In Flash 8 on last frame of maintimeline of movie, I have a
    layer with a background image, 2 buttons and a dynamic textbox
    (made scrollable) with scrollbar component. Textbox is given a var
    of "content", and an instance name of "textBox", which is
    referenced in scrollbar parameters.
    I have created 3 text .txt files, and saved them to same
    folder with movie .swf file. Text in files is preceeded by
    "content=" on line preceeding text to correspond with var of
    dynamic textbox. The files were created in Rich text format on Mac
    OSX4.11 and saved with .rtf extension, then file extension was
    changed to .txt (wouldn't save as .txt)
    I've added the following actionscript to this last frame:
    loadText = new LoadVars();
    loadText.load("TEXTintro.txt");
    //creating the loadVarsText function
    loadText.onLoad = function(success){
    if (success){
    textBox.text = this.content;
    else{
    trace("Error loading external content");
    Buttons have an instance name assigned with the following
    actionscript:
    on (release) {
    loadText = new LoadVars();
    loadText.load("TEXT1.txt");
    loadText.onLoad = function(success){
    if (success){
    textBox.text = this.content;
    else{
    trace("Error loading external content");
    When I test movie, I can see buttons on last frame of movie,
    but they don't load any text when pressed, and "undefined" text
    appears in upper left corner of text box before I press either
    button.
    I am getting the following Output errors:
    **Error** Scene=MoonOfWintertime, layer=TextBox,
    frame=2500:Line 1: Statement block must be terminated by '}'
    on (release) {
    **Error** Scene=MoonOfWintertime, layer=TextBox,
    frame=2500:Line 11: Syntax error.
    **Error** Scene=MoonOfWintertime, layer=TextBox,
    frame=2500:Line 1: Statement block must be terminated by '}'
    on (release) {
    **Error** Scene=MoonOfWintertime, layer=TextBox,
    frame=2500:Line 11: Syntax error.
    Total ActionScript Errors: 4 Reported Errors: 4

    No more output errors, buttons still not working, but I got
    my intro .txt file to load in textbox that loads with frame using
    the following code I tried from another tutorial:
    loadText = new LoadVars();
    loadText.onLoad = function() {
    textBox.html=true;
    textBox.htmlText = this.textContent;
    loadText.load("TEXTintro.txt");
    Tried the following code with buttons, but doesn't work.
    Other code suggestions?
    on (release) {
    loadText = new LoadVars();
    loadText.onLoad = function() {
    loadText.load("TEXT2.txt");
    on (release) {
    loadText = new LoadVars();
    loadText.onLoad = function() {
    textBox.html=true;
    textBox.htmlText = this.textContent;
    loadText.load("TEXT1.txt");
    }

  • Input file location

    Hi,
    I have a small swing application which is trying to read a txt file. I am getting a FileNotFoundException. The swing app consist of couple of files which are all in the same package. Where should be the txt file located. I dont want to provide an absolute path ( no hard coding)
    Thanks

    If the *.class files are bundled in a jar file the structure would be /package1/contents1/file.txt
    If you're running straight out of JDev then reference the file in relation to where the .class is that trying to read the .txt file.
    Post your stack and dir structure if you're still unsure.

  • Script to search all files in specified folder for multiple string text values listed in a source file and output each match to one single results txt file

    I have been searching high and low for this one.  I have a vbscript that can successfully perform the function if one file is listed.  It does a Wscript.echo on the results and if I run this via command using cscript, I can output to a text file
    that way.  However, I cannot seem to get it to work properly if I want it to search ALL the files in the folder.  At one point, I was able to have it create the output file and appear as if it worked, but it never showed any results when the script
    was executed and folder was scanned.  So I am going back to the drawing board and starting from the beginning.
    I also have a txt file that contains the list of string text entries I would like it to search for.  Just for testing, I placed 4 lines of sample text and one single matching text in various target files and nothing comes back.  The current script
    I use for each file has been executed with a few hundred string text lines I want it to search against to well over one thousand.  It might take awhile, but it works every time. The purpose is to let this run against various log files in a folder and
    let it search.  There is no deleting, moving, changing of either the target folder/files to run against, nor of the file that contains the strings to search for.  It is a search (read) only function, going thru the entire contents of the folder and
    when done, performs the loop function and onto the next file to repeat the process until all files are searched.  When completed, instead of running a cscript to execute the script and outputting the results to text, I am trying to create that as part
    of the overall script.  Saving yet another step for me to do.
    My current script is set to append to the same results file and will echo [name of file I am searching]:  No errors found.  Otherwise, the
    output shows the filename and the string text that matched.  Because the results append to it, I can only run the script against each file separately or create individual output names.  I would rather not do that if I could include it all in one.
     This would also free me from babysitting it and running each file script separately upon the other's completion.  I can continue with my job and come back later and view the completed report all in one.  So
    if I could perform this on an entire folder, then I would want the entries to include the filename, the line number that the match occurred on in that file and the string text that was matched (each occurrence).  I don't want the entire line to be listed
    where the error was, just the match itself.
    Example:  (In the event this doesn't display correctly below, each match, it's corresponding filename and line number all go together on the same line.  It somehow posted the example jumbled when I listed it)
    File1.txt Line 54
    Job terminated unexpectedly
     File1.txt Line 58 Process not completed
    File1.txt
    Line 101 User input not provided
    File1.txt
    Line 105  Process not completed
    File2.txt
    No errors found
    File3.txt
    Line 35 No tape media found
    File3.txt
    Line 156 Bad surface media
    File3.txt Line 188
    Process terminated
    Those are just random fake examples for this post.
    This allows me to perform analysis on a set of files for various projects I am doing.  Later on, when the entire search is completed, I can go back to the results file and look and see what files had items I wish to follow up on.  Therefore, the
    line number that each match was found on will allow me to see the big picture of what was going on when the entry was logged.
    I actually import the results file into a spreadsheet, where further information is stored regarding each individual text string I am using.  Very useful.
    If you know how I can successfully achieve this in one script, please share.  I have seen plenty of posts out there where people have requested all different aspects of it, but I have yet to see it all put together in one and work successfully.
    Thanks for helping.

    I'm sorry.  I was so consumed in locating the issue that I completely overlooked posting what exactly I was needing  help with.   I did have one created, but I came across one that seemed more organized than what I originally created.  Later
    on I would learn that I had an error in log location on my original script and therefore thought it wasn't working properly.  Now that I am thinking that I am pretty close to achieving what I want with this one, I am just going to stick with it.
    However, I could still use help on it.  I am not sure what I did not set correctly or perhaps overlooking as a typing error that my very last line of this throws an "Expected Statement" error.  If I end with End, then it still gives same
    results.
    So to give credit where I located this:
    http://vbscriptwmi.uw.hu/ch12lev1sec7.html
    I then adjusted it for what I was doing.
    What this does does is it searches thru log files in a directory you specify when prompted.  It looks for words that are contained in another file; objFile2, and outputs the results of all matching words in each of those log files to another file:  errors.log
    Once all files are scanned to the end, the objects are closed and then a message is echoed letting you know (whether there errors found or not), so you know the script has been completed.
    What I had hoped to achieve was an output to the errors.log (when matches were found) the file name, the line number that match was located on in that file and what was the actual string text (not the whole line) that matched.  That way, I can go directly
    to each instance for particular events if further analysis is needed later on.
    So I could use help on what statement should I be closing this with.  What event, events or error did I overlook that I keep getting prompted for that.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Importing fixed width text from a .txt file

    I am really struggling to do in Numbers '09 something which I can do easily in Excel.
    I have a txt file containing plain text in fixed-width columns which I would like to import into numbers.
    I just cannot find a way to do it.
    I have tried using the Insert/choose menu item - but it won't take .txt files.
    I have tried to copy/paste the data, but it get's pasted into a single column.
    The data consists of many lines like this:
    Part Value Device Package Library Sheet
    A-IN JST-2.0-4 JST-2.0-4 JST-20M KMILLAR 1
    A-IN JST-2.5-4 JST-2.5-4 JST-25M KMILLAR 1
    A-IN JST-2.8-4 JST-2.8-4 JST-28M KMILLAR 1
    (and so on....)
    (Each column is an exact number of characters wide, but these forums make that hard to see due to the variable spaced fonts).
    How can I import this data into numbers?
    (Sorry, but I cannot get the data in any other format, such as CSV, the application which exports it only support fixed width colums with spaces for padding).
    Many thanks in advance,
    Kenny

    Here is a script treating the case of fixed widths values.
    --[SCRIPT fixedwidth_values_toTSV.scpt]
    Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : fixedwidth_values_toTSV.scpt
    déplacer le fichier ainsi créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    (1) coller dans le document de votre choix
    (2) ouvrir le fichier texte modifié dans Numbers qui accepte sans broncher les ficiers .txt.
    Utilisation alternative : enregistrer le script en tant que Progiciel (Application sous 10.6.x)
    Glisser-déposer l'icône d'un fichier texte sur celle de l'application lancera le traitement voulu.
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
    L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
    Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
    Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    Sous 10.6.x,
    aller dans le panneau "Général" du dialogue Préférences de l'Éditeur Applescript
    puis cocher la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre des menus".
    --=====
    Save the script as a Script: fixedwidth_values_toTSV.scpt
    Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
    go to the Scripts Menu, choose Numbers, then choose "fixedwidth_values_toTSV"
    Choose a text file.
    The script scan the file's contents to extract the width of every column then it replace the separator groups by TAB characters.
    The result is passed to the clipboard and is written in the original file.
    So you may :
    (1) paste in the document of your choice
    (2) open the modified text file with Numbers which is fair enough to do that.
    An alternate track is to save the script as an Application Package (Application under 10.6.x)
    Drag and drop the icon of a text file on the application's one will do the job.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
    To make the Script menu appear:
    Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
    Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.
    Under 10.6.x,
    go to the General panel of AppleScript Editor’s Preferences dialog box
    and check the “Show Script menu in menu bar” option.

  • History in txt file...on client location

    I want to create a history file in a .txt file. and it's store on client location...if there r any solution plz share that..
    thanx
    Wating ur +ve rply....

    Thanks for the clarification. I'm still not sure how you see this working though.
    1. The end user enters data via some client application at their end (Java? .Net? Ruby On Rails?)
    2. You want to keep a record of what they entered, using a text file.
    A server can't write anything directly to the client (it's the same for web servers etc) so if the requirement is to do that then you would have to look at the client application itself.
    From within the database using triggers, auditing, workspace versioning etc, you can capture an audit trail, and PL/SQL can write to text file using UTL_FILE.

  • Downloads dragged and dropped from Firefox download window into Outlook e-mail show as file location text.

    I have a user who normally can drag files from Firefox's Download window into an e-mail in Outlook and it creates an attachment of that file in the e-mail. However, lately, the dragged .pdf or whatever file only shows up as a text file location like:
    \\file:%Downloads%\randomfile.pdf
    It's not a link either, it's just the text.
    I've tried doing a repair of Outlook.
    I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 19.
    I've tested dragging items from the desktop to the e-mail and it works fine.
    I can't drag and drop from the Downloads window to the desktop.
    I just wanted to add this user is using Windows XP Pro.

    I can confirm that this is an issue with the newest release of Firefox. I just upgraded my Firefox, which was previously 18.02 to 19.0 and now I'm getting the same error. It's a bug.

  • How can I load a .TXT file into a dynamic text box?

    I am sure that many people know how to load a .txt file into
    a dynamic text box. But I do not. I want to be able to reference a
    txt file from the server into the text box. So that when I change
    the text file it changes in the flash movie without even editing
    the flash file itself. Thank you.

    I think this is the simplest way to go :)

  • Export Excel Table in .txt File with space delimited text in UNICODE Format

    Hi all
    I've a big unsolved problem: I would like to convert an Excel table with some laboratory data in it (descriptions as text, numbers, variables with some GREEK LETTERS, ...). The output should be a formatted text with a clear structure. A very good solution is
    given by the converter in Excel "Save As" .prn File. All works fine, the formattation is perfect (it does not matter if some parts are cutted because are too long), but unfortunately the greek letters are converted into "?"!!!
    I've tried to convert my .xlsx File in .txt File with formatting Unicode and the greek letters are still there! But in this case the format is not good, the structure of a table is gone!
    Do you know how to save an Excel file in .prn but with Unicode formatting instead of ANSI or a .txt with space delimited text?
    Thanks a lot to everyone that can help me!
    M.L.C.

    This solution works in Excel/Access 2013.
    Link the Excel table into Access.
    In Access, right-click the linked table in the Navigation Pane, point your mouse cursor to "Export", and then choose "Text File" in the sub-menu.
    Name the file, and then under "Specify export options", check "Export data with formatting and layout".  Click "OK".
    Choose either Unicode or Unicode (UTF-8) encoding.  Click "OK".
    Click "Close" to complete the export operation.

  • Create hyperlink to text in .txt file

    I purchased a template for my company website.  I am editing the text (headers, body, etc) in the .txt file (template creator's directions to do this).  I now need to make some of that text in the .txt file a hyperlink (one to a pdf document on my server and several to external websites).  When I highlight the text in the .txt file, I am not given the option to create a hyperlink.  Obviously, when I try to create a hyperlink in the code, I can.  The problem is that the desired text is only contained in the .txt file.
    What can I do?  Am I prevented from using text because all of the text is in the .txt file?
    Thank you in advance!!!!!

    1) Open yourfilename.txt.
    2) SaveAs yourfilename.html
    3) This will give you an HTML document you can work with in Design View (albeit an un-styled one).
    Add your links to the page.  Ctrl+S to save.
    4) SaveAs yourfilename.txt.
