TextArea... bug?

Not sure what forum from what site I should post this in but since I'm using a c:out to populate a textArea I'm going to give it a shot here.
Simple code that I have is as follows.

<c:out
value="${sessionScope.OCCS99Form.report}" />

occasionally when the page is displayed the value that is shown inside the textarea is cut off. If I view the source everything is in the source. This only occurs in IE not FF. I know this is not a JSTL problem, but the only other forum I every get good answers from is devshed.

When it fails it cuts off at 26 every time.Seeing rows=25 is too much of a coincidence.
Notice that you are specifying the height of the textarea in two ways. Once via the "rows" attribute, another via the height style.
Try removing one or the other, and seeing if the issue is still there.
Does it behave the same with a static HTML page?
Just save the source as a static HTML page, and access it directly.
If it is a browser bug, you should be able to reproduce it in static HTML.
Also try it in a standalone page with just a textarea. You are nesting it in a table. Maybe it is something from the table affecting it?
Most of this debugging with HTML is just trial and error. Try different things until it works.
Good luck,

• TextArea bug on Solaris

http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4972534
My app is getting hit by this bug on Solaris - Java Plugin Version is
1.5.0_01.
My component is a TextArea not a TextField, but I am still getting hit
by it.
The workaround given on the webpage works - i.e. clicking on the Java
Console & then on my textArea gives it keyboard focus - but it has to
be done everytime - i.e. if you click elsewhere & lose focus again, the
workaround has to be repeated before you can edit the textarea - this
isn't a good workaround, IMHO.
Does anyone know any better workarounds, mitigations.
The page says
"This bug had been fixed on JRE1.5.0_beat2-b37 on Solaris10-b51."
What is JRE1.5.0_beat2-b37? Is it downloadable?

The bug ID for this problem is 6413443. It has been fixed in both the development release and the patch release. Fix should be available in the upcoming patches for Studio 11 and in the next release of Sun Studio Express - SSX3.

• What`s going on with XML Parser version 2.0.2.7?

Hi,
In january, I was told on this forum by Steven Muench to wait version 2.0.2.7 of Oracle XML Parser to correct a textarea bug with <xsl:output method="HTML"... I would like to know what's going on and when should I expect this new version be available to download.
Thanks!

It's in testing right now. Will likely still be a couple more weeks before it's out on OTN.

• BUG: apex_item.textarea default values

ApEx Team....
I doubt this was intentional, but perhaps it was. I certainly won't discredit the idea.
In 4.0.1.00.03, I describe the APEX_ITEM package spec and find that the TEXTAREA function has two parameters, p_rows and p_cols, which have defaults of 40 and 4, respectively. I would venture to say that these defaults are likely reversed inadvertently. I used the defaults to create a textarea and found it a bit difficult to use in practice.

• IE10 and IE11 BUG: clipboard data modified when pasted into TEXTAREA

When pasting certain text into a TEXTAREA under IE 10.0.9200.16921 in compatibility mode, IE10 changes the data - sometimes (mysteriously and randomly about half the time).
The following test web page demonstrates how to reproduce this problem:

Test IE10 paste bug 20140616

Test IE10 paste bug 20140616

How to reproduce the bug:

Turn on compatibility mode.

Select the full contents of the textbox below (two lines).

Copy the contents of the textbox below into the Windows clipboard.

Delete the contents of the textbox.

Paste the clipboard contents back into the textbox.

The lowercase "i" at the end will mysteriously (and randomly) be
capitalized to "I" (about half the time).

/*#!!#*/
i;

What is happening here?
Does this happen with other versions of IE? (I only have access to IE5.5, IE6, IE9 and IE10 - only IE10 exhibits this problem so far.)
I'm developing a simple javascript web application that needs to run accurately in all versions of all browsers - IE10 appears to have a pretty severe bug here.
Update 2014-06-16 12pm MDT: Another user has reported this behavior running Win7, IE v 11.0.9600 as well. Have updated the title to include IE11 as being affected.

It appears that this behavior is due to the automatic spelling correction "feature" of IE10. The above mentioned (erroneous) behavior can be avoided by doing one of three things (there may be more but these are the ones I've found so far):
1. Turn off auto spelling correction entirely by un-checking the following checkbox:
IE Menu -> Tools -> Manage add-ons -> Spelling correction -> Enable spelling correction.
2. Turn off compatibility mode.
3. Add a 'spellcheck=false' property to the TEXTAREA element start tag.
Note that the last option is not available for pages written in valid XHTML 1.0 Strict because "spellcheck" is not a valid XHTML property for the TEXTAREA element.
Some might say: "What's the problem? All its doing is fixing your typing errors. This isn't a bug at all."
The problem is that not all data being pasted into a TEXTAREA is English text. Sometimes the data is very precise and must not be "corrected" by the browser. In my case, the data being pasted into the textbox is a (very precise) regular expression
statement, (e.g. "var myre = /complex-regex-here/i;"), and IE10 (and IE11) are automatically (and erroneously) changing the "i" modifier to "I" which makes the statement invalid.
IMHO, this is certainly a BUG and unfortunately, I'm going to have to deal with it with an explanation to my users that the default behavior of IE10 and IE11 may cause their data to become corrupted.

• Apex4 bug: 'URL Target' textarea of button definition

Hi,
at Page Definition page when listing button definitions using prev/next buttons and sticking with 'Condition' section view only, 'URL Target' textarea ( 'Action When Button Clicked' section ) doesn't preserve its size.
Thanks

Tom -
I assume this is the prior post you where talking about : https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2401714
However, this doesn't cover my problem. I have tried all the follow, and they all break export / import and copy functionality due to mismatched quotes:
collapse_all($v(P2130_TREE_ID));
collapse_all($v('P2130_TREE_ID'));
collapse_all($v("P2130_TREE_ID"));
collapse_all('&P2130_TREE_ID.');
collapse_all("&P2130_TREE_ID.");
These all allow the collapse button to work.
NOW, if I change my ID tag to be something like 'P_SCOTT_TREE' then everything works just fine (import/export/copy). It's having a number in the tag that is cause the problems because the export is casting it to_char and somehow throwing in an extra quote.
Thanks,
Scott

• Textarea character count feature quirk/bug

Apex 4.1.1.00.23
I've found a quirky thing about the textarea page item. The character count feature counts carriage-return-line-feed (CRLF) as one character, as you would expect it to, but it's stored as two characters in the database because of the way Windows handles new lines.
So, aside from using clob columns or explaining to users how Windows handles CRLF characters, any thoughts on how one might manage this quirk?

The first word on a new line of a text area displays funny (highlights NOT where the word originally was) if you use the "look up" functionality (triple-click). See images below.
Using safari 5.1.3 (7534.53.10) and OSX 10.7.3.

hi rupesh,
i would implement it like that:
program a svc that is called from other services as request reply compoenent.
svcLookup always gets all data or bits of data that a client (Use1, Use2) needs and replys the data to the requesting service. Use1 and 2 may cache results in case the db is down then the requests to Lookup would timeout.

• On Windows 8.1 and Firefox 36.0.1 the textarea in forms has no carriage returns. Earlier versions the forms work. Is there a fix for this?

Prior to this version of Firefox 36.0.1, the in my HTML forms was working; displaying carriage returns. In version 36.0.1 they no longer function properly. Instead when I enter a carriage return, it displays a space instead of a newline. I went to the most basic textarea testing
<textarea> name="comments" cols=20 rows=10 </textarea>
to make sure I wasn't introducing anything with other languages.
I am using Windows 8.1 Pro. I rolled back to Firefox 35.0 and everything works fine. I install 36.0.1 and it stops working.
I have access to another Laptop also running the same version of windows and Firefox and it appears to be doing strange things as well. I am suspicious in that I started noticing this immediately after a windows upgrade last night. The laptop also experienced the issues it is having immediately after a windows update yesterday evening.
I have yet another PC running a different version of windows and Firefox and it too works fine. It looks like the issue is where there is windows 8.1 Pro and Firefox 36.0.1.
Do you guys have any idea what is going on here?
Thanks

The current release supports the white-space property for a text area and it is possible that the website uses white-space: pre instead of white-space: pre-wrap.
The former will prevent Firefox from wrapping the text.
You can check that in the Inspector via the right-click context menu.

See:

• How can i display image in mx:TextArea Component?

I found display img tag in htmlText of mx:TextArea component
is very difficult in Flex Air
I new a simple air project in flex builder, put the code
below in it, i put a glad.png file in the src folder, every thing
is OK, when i run it, image cannot be displayed. why this happend,
I search the google for the solution, it seems there is a bug in
air, and told me to use mx:HTML coponent, but that component still
can not display img tag.
could any one help me with this?
<mx:TextArea width="100%" height="100%">
<mx:htmlText>

Click the image to go to the Adobe
home page.

</mx:htmlText>
</mx:TextArea>

I ran into a similar problem and wasn't able to find a way to have regular Flex components (like Text and TextArea) display tags in their htmlText. Everything works find in a web-based Flex application, but once the same code was used in AIR, the images just wouldn't display.
I changed my display to use the mx:HTML component and everything worked fine (I was using only external images).

• Is this a bug in APEX or I'm missing something

Hi,
I have a table chr10bug( id number , sample_text varchar2(4000)).
I am using simple form with textarea to populate sample_text.
I have a report based on above table.
The report query is select id , sample_text from chr10bug. The Link tab has Target as URL. URL is javascript:void(0); and Link attribute has a very simple function
onmouseover="alter('#SAMPLE_TEXT#')"
Now, my question is when a user hits enter in the textarea eg.
User enter some text **User Press Enter**
User enter some text again
In the reports the onmouseover="alert('#SAMPLE_TEXT#')" does not work for recrod where users pressed enter key. (In fact none of the function which accept string is working) . If we do not press enter while entering data in textarea... the above function is working...
Example is here....

http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=32555:2 ( form to enter data via text area)

Hi,
Thanks once again for reply.
I create two report with same javascript function alert('#sample_text#')
CASE1 >> Javascript function call is placed in Link attribute section as ** onmouseover="alert('#sample_text#')" >>> This is not working
CASE2 >> Javascript function call is place in URL section as ** javascript:alert('#sample_text#') >>>> This is working however I'm not able to have onmouseover feature.

• Install Application - TextArea inside JScrollPane

I've been working on an install application to install another one of my programs (next/accept/next/ finish type of thing) and had a couple questions and would appreciate any help anyone can give.
Some Background info:
I made images and have them display as image icons through jlabels for the buttons and background. The labels have classes applying various mouselisteners (Mousepressed, MouseEntered, MouseExited, etc) changing the images and moving from screen to screen. I have my layout set to null, not for any particular reason, but because I have no formal education in layout managers.
1) Is there a conical solution to moving through various windows? That is, right now I move through the various 'screens' with a check on an int called state, that gets incremented and decremented through forward and back buttons. I looked at some code given to us on a test by our teacher (we had to find bugs) and saw that he had implemented a fake "state" interface, with constants like "Account_State" to control where you were in the program. This seems a bit easier to read than ints, but is there a correct built in version of his states?
2) On the second screen I have a license agreement (actually required for the application that gets installed), and a checkbox. The license is held inside of a JTextArea(scroll) inside a JScrollPane(textscroll). The JScrollPane is extending in weird ways. The following is a stripped down version of my code (it runs and demonstrates the problem):

I've tried a number of different things I got from searching the forums at different points in the code (setting the number of rows/columns, setting max and min sizes, etc etc) The code above that wraps the text I could have sworn I tried 3 times before it magically worked... I also tried using the awt component for textareas that had the scrollbars built in, but scrapped it after having even more difficulties with that one. I'm trying to get the textbox to only go down about 300 px and 300 px to the right. Using the graphical editor to change it produces a null pointer error at compile time(?!?). Can anyone help me to get the textbox to render as I want it to?

Hi,
I have this code for validation:

id="nameValidator"
source="{userName}"
property="string"
