TextEdit list won't import to email

I'm trying to import a list of email addresses to a web-based email app (mailchimp). The email addresses are comma-separated but on 1 line. Is there some script or technique to insert a line break after each email address?

Hi, I'd get Tex-Edit Plus for OS X...
http://www.tex-edit.com/
Load the file in it, Show Invisibles, see what chr follows each one, use it to search & replace that chr if unique, or s&r like .com with .comCR, then .net with .netCR.
Here tab is shown as a right arrow, CR as Pg or Paragraph...

  • Mail Won't Import All Emails

I just upgraded from an iMac G4 running 10.3.9 to a SR MacBook Pro with 10.4.9. I used the Migration Assistant to move my mail, but not all of the messages transferred. I also tried copying ~/Library/Mail manually but got the same results. When Mail imports the messages, the progress bar has the correct number (### of 2167), but it stops midway and I end up getting only 532 messages. Any suggestions?

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Here’s an example of the most common variant of this problem and how to proceed in those cases:
Just upgraded, Most of my old Inbox is gone!
Your problem, however, is different in that you don’t even get an incomplete conversion. If Mail stalls during the conversion process, you may try to identify the mailboxes that Mail is choking on, quit Mail, move those mailboxes out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Destkop), and trash any Envelope Index-named files you may see in ~/Library/Mail/, so that Mail re-creates the index and tries to import the remaining mailboxes again, then manually import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Alternatively, you may want to set up Mail from scratch and manually import your mail back afterwards. This would allow you to use Mail normally while solving the problem of importing the old mail as you see fit:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
    5. You’ll have to re-configure all your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    6. Do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders, if any.
There are two ways to import Mail 1.x mailboxes into Mail 2.x. The obvious one is importing them as Mail for Mac OS X. But Mail 1.x stored mail in standard mbox format plus some additional support files, and this allows Mail 1.x mailboxes to also be imported as Other, i.e. as generic mailboxes in standard mbox format.
Importing as Mail for Mac OS X produces the best results when it works, because it takes into consideration all the files in the mailboxes, not just the mbox files where the messages are stored, and hence, allows information such as status flags to be preserved. Importing as Other, on the other hand, may work in cases where importing as Mail for Mac OS X doesn’t, because it looks at the mbox files only, ignoring the support files which is what Mail 2.x usually chokes on, but precisely because of that, information such as status flags is lost and previously deleted messages may reappear.
Hence, you may try importing as much as you can as Mail for Mac OS X, then import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Note that what Mail asks for when importing depends on the format chosen. Mail always asks for the folder that contains the “things” to be imported. If Mail for Mac OS X is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the *.mbox folders, so you must choose the folder that contains them, not the *.mbox folders themselves. On the other hand, if Other is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the mbox files, so you must choose the *.mbox folders that contain them in that case.
Note also that some of the mailboxes now on the Desktop may have already been partially converted to the new *.emlx format during the previous (failed) attempt to convert them in place. If you tell Mail 2.x to import as Mail for Mac OS X a mailbox that already has a Messages folder, Mail will simply ignore the Mail 1.x files present there. If the mailbox was successfully converted to the new format, that’s fine, but if the conversion was incomplete, that’s not what you want.
As a result of doing all the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Address Book Won't Import... help?

Hi All. My address book will import a .csv file if I just use a couple of fields, name, company, phone.
But if I want the rest, all seems normal, until I click on 'OK'.. then the blue OK button turns off and no import. The app is still alive and working, just won't import a full list of fields... I have tried deleting the cache, no difference. Suggestions?
    Thanks for your time.

Thanks Austin... you may have noticed my recent smattering of posts regarding email, address book and importing - two of which you have been kind enough to reply to, thank you.
I am migrating 6 years of msn/goldmine (frustrations) to Contactizer and am running into a few minor anomoles. Although Contactizer uses the same database as ABook, ABook would not import the address fields, but Contactizer did... so that one is done.
However, there are many multiple contacts in there - but after running 'look for duplicate records' ABook always returns none,... and Contactizer does not provide duplicate checking. Go figure...
I received your earlier email regarding the applescript, thanks. Still looking at that one though, I can't seem to make sense of it... I'll keep going back to it.
    Regards.

  • CS3 .ste files won't import into CS5

I recently upgraded from CS3 <on XP> to CS5 <on Mac Snow Leopard.> I expected a learning curve, but I also expect that software works as specified.
My CS3 site definition files won't import. I followed the instructions in DW help to the letter:
Manage Sites---> Import--->browsed to .ste files, selected Choose, and nothing happens. The sites don't show up in the list in the Manage Sites dialog box. ARE THERE MISSING INSTRUCTIONS? IS THERE A PLUG-IN MISSING?
After I've tried to import them, the .ste files are then 'greyed out' from the list of files. It doesn't matter what source the .ste files come from: jumpdrive, email, etc.
Note:  This is a new, fresh & clean Snow Leopard install, and my files were transfered at the Apple Store. The CS5 install was just last week as well.
I have client sites to update. Please help!

Yes, I did export the .ste files from XP/CS3. I saved them to a jumpdrive, and also emailed them to my Macbook. I know some people don't read or follow instructions before they ask for help, but that's not the case.
This seems to be a CS5 issue in Mac Snow Leopard. Important note; I was able to import the .ste files to an XP machine running a demo version of CS5. I've moved site files before with CS, CS2, and CS3, on XP. Never had an issue with those flavors or that OS.
On my Mac, after I attempt to import the .ste files, they become 'greyed out'. All other file types (.html, etc.) also appear 'greyed out'. It seems like there's a missing step in the instructions?
Update:  I right-clicked the .ste files in my Downloads file, and chose 'Open with Dreamweaver'. THEN they imported successfully, and prompted me to choose the root folders. (If nobody answers the front door, knock on the back door!)
Thanks to all for your suggestions, but I think the problem is behind me. Long live the right click!

  • VCS Files Won't Import

Hello everyone I have a quick question...
Have a few managers with tungsten T3's ...laptops with XP SP3..... outlook 2003....Palm Desktop v 4.1.4
They email appointments from palm desktop app to each other... as they use the Palm Desktop calander not the outlook calander.
Here is the problem... when they receive the VCS file as an attachment and double click on it....Palm Desktop opens up as it should but it does not import the file into the Palm Desktop calander or ask if I would like to import the file...
But if I save the file from outlook onto the desktop and double click it from there...Palm Desktop opens up and asks me if I would like to import the following event into my calander.....
Any ideas why it won't import straight form outlook with a double click?
    Post relates to: Tungsten T3

I downloaded my file, saved as a .vcs, opened palm desktop and attempted to File-import and it said 'error importing...may not be a valid vCal format'  I contacted the tech people on the website and they said there did not appear to be any issues on their end, and I followed the directions they had listed online for downloaded to a pda...can anyone help me??  The first event reads...

  • IPhoto (old-- version 8?) won't import photos from iPhone 5. Very buggy.

I have an old version of iPhoto that is very buggy (we have an 06 iMac, to be replaced next month). Admittedly, when I've been prompted to rebuild the cache, I don't (what does that do, anyway?). Lately, my problems have been: 1) Certain photos from my iPhone 5 continually re-import even though I check "Don't import duplicates." 2) Most concerning, photos from the past three months on my iPhone won't import to iPhoto. I get an ominous error message after iPhoto takes about an hour to go through the import process. On occassion, random photos (1 or 2) will import. Sometimes an image from a video (but not the actual video). My photos are trapped on my phone, currently not backed up. I have 1000+ photos on my iPhone, as I am sentimental and paranoid and don't want to delete them. Also--our photos are on an external hard drive. We also use TimeMachine and back up on a remote server through a service. I could live with losing everything on my Mac...but not my photos. The over 10K photos are painstackingly organized by folder and albums. Help me!!!

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto  8.1.2 and later  or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Imovie crashes/won't import

I had a problem importing video from my sony TRV-250 into imovie 5 back when I first got my iMac. I called APPLE, reset PRAM and thought the issue was fixed because I was able to import. Hadn't tried again until now, and suddenly I find I'm in the same boat. It shows that the camera is connected but won't import, and crashes when I try to control the camera from the iMovie controls. I reset PRAM and that didn't work as it did the last time. I unplugged everything from the firewire ports(camera and ext. hard drive), restarted the computer and tried the bottom port with the top empty and it suddenly DID import, but stopped after 12 seconds and then wouldn't recognize my camera at all. It didn't even show that a device was connected in system profiler. I started over, resetting PRAM and restarting the computer with empty ports, and now it's importing. But it will only work from the top port, not the bottom. Does this make any sense at all? Why do I have to reset PRAM every-time I want to import video from my camera? If anyone has a similar issue or can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.
    iMac G5 20 rev. B   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The only thing that makes it work is resetting PRAM everytime. Even then, only 1 of my FW ports will work. The other one always causes iMovie to crash. Unless I have a bad camera, bad RAM, or a bad FW port, it's not anything else on your list because I've checked it. My OS is updated from Thanks for your help. I'm lost.
Also I have updated everything. You mentioned that QT and OS shouldn't be updated. Is this what you meant? If so, do I have to reinstall the OS to go back to the old version? THANKS

why won't my imac email send unless I restart the whole computer?

Two things, first see if it shows up in "Apple > About This Mac > More Info.. > Disc Burning" . If you still see it there the system still recognizes it but it isn't responding. Next do a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
Hopefully this will reset the power to the drive.

  • Itunes won't import mp3's from my iAudio u2

    Hello,
I have an iBook G4 with iTunes 6. I just purchased the iAudio u2 and successfully used it to record a 3 hour file of music that I "lined-in" from my CD player. My next step was going to be to copy the mp3 file to my computer, but I can't get iTunes to import it.
The funny thing is, iTunes ALMOST imports the file. In fact, the progress bar travels successfully through the copying phase, but just before the progress bar reaches the end of the "analyzing song volume" phase, the system freezes up briefly, and when it finally clears (in about 10 seconds) there is no sign of the MP3 having been copied to iTunes (i.e., it is not in my music library).
Any ideas how I can transfer my iAudio mp3's to my laptop and iTunes -- or any ideas why the file won't import into iTunes? I've recorded 4 mp3 files using the iAudio so far and each of them has the same problem when I try to import it into iTunes: i.e., the process crashes just before the song volume is completely analyzed.
    Thanks for any help.

I will try it, but page 116 of the iPhone user manual specifically says it will play MP3 (up to 320 Kbps), in fact here is the entire list:
The following audio file formats are supported by iPhone. These include formats
    for audiobooks and podcasting:
    AAC (M4A, M4B, M4P, up to 320 Kbps)
Apple Lossless (a high-quality compressed format)
    MP3 (up to 320 Kbps)
    MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
    WAV
    AA (audible.com spoken word, formats 2, 3, and 4)
AAX (audible.com spoken word, AudibleEnhanced format)
    AIFF
The following video file formats are supported by iPhone:
    H.264 (Baseline Profile Level 3.0)
    MPEG-4 (Simple Profile)

  • Iphoto won't quit, won't import photos, stalls while editing photos despite rebuilding the database

I have mountain lion and the newest version of iphoto.   It won't quit unless I force quit it, it won't import photos, it won't let me edit photos without freezing up.   I have tried rebuilding the database and repairing permissions without success

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it freezes also try this:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If the new library doesn't freeze or act like your current library then your current library is the culprit.
In that case  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto won't import photos from iPhone

Hi - using a MBP 2.2, Leopard, iLife 08 and an 8gb iPhone. iPhoto used to import photos from the iPhone no problem - now it won't import it at all. Says it's an unreadable file (though a normal jpg).
What gives? Same issue trying to import two jpg's rec'd via email (and dragged to my desktop).
    Any suggestions?

I have this problem now. I have MacOS 10.5.1, iPhoto '08, and iPhone running 1.1.2.
In my "camera roll" on the iPhone are 260 photos, all the pics I have taken since I got the phone. I imported some of them weeks ago with no problems into iPhoto. But now iPhoto can't import anything from the iPhone.
iPhoto does know there are photos on the phone, because there is set of blank thumbnail squares that I can select to import. When I look at the photo info, I can see the file name, size, date, but all the other info is missing or incorrect. It doesn't have camera maker or model. Most worrying though is the height and width of the pictures are zero.
I am thinking that there is some cache file on the phone that got corrupted somehow. Resetting to factory settings might help, but I really don't want to lose all the photos that I took from the holidays.
I've tried the above suggestions and no avail: logged out and into the .Mac account; powered down the phone; reset the iSync history (interestingly, iSync does not recognize my phone when I do a device scan).
I did try removing some stuff to make room, but still no dice.

  • MP3 Won't import

I am in the process of making a music video and I got the track emailed to me from the artist and it won't import to FCPX. It was originally in MP3 format, works in itunes and quicktime just fine, and I've tried changing the format, i can't get anything to work. When I try to import it i get this message:
    Any Ideas?

Actually, FCPX's default, and the standard for digital video is 16-bit, 48kHz.  iTunes or QuickTime Pro 7 can convert it easily for you.
If you're on Lion or Mountain Lion, right-click the clip in the Finder, at the bottom of the pop-up menu will be a conversion option, also.

  • Import Hotmail emails to Apple's Mail

I use Apple's Mail program for my primary email but I also have a Hotmail account, but I get so much spam that I want to close it. However, before closing it I would like to import all email from this Hotmail account into Mail but Mail's import feature does not list Hotmail, only "Other". But when I choose "Other" it asks me to select an application but of course Hotmail doesn't show up. Bottom line--how can I import my Hotmail emails into Apple's Mail?

    You didn't post the exception.
It is probably caused by the JDOM JAR or classes not being available or an
