The Comcast Network Philadelphia HD

While I'm sure this is futile, figured I'd inquire on the status for TCN HD for the philly area. It seems like verizon has access to the HD feed but has chosen not to broadcast it. Local sports in a major market shouldn't be presented only in standard definition. Comcast can find a spot for the HD channel, why not FIOS?

Comcast found a spot because it owns it. My guess is Comcast will want a ridiculous amount of money for a channel that few outside of Philly will watch
Verizon already pays for Comcast Sportsnet and The Comcast Network (TCN) but only carries the latter in SD (Comcast Sportsnet is available in both HD and SD).  I don't believe there is an additional charge from Comcast for TCN in HD and it is simply a matter of finding QAM space for an additional HD which VZ does not seem to be willing to do for this channel (has been requested for years).  One other eason is that many times the only live events are "overflow" (like when the 76ers and Flyers are both playing at the same time).
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for TCN in HD to be added.

  • The Comcast Network in HD in South Jersey III: Does Anyone at Verizon Have Real Answers?

Game number 3 comes and goes by the way side.  NY Rangers vs. Philly Flyers supposed to be broadcast on Versus HD tonight.  However, local programming (The Comcast Network) has the rights to the game.  Thus, the game is blacked out on Versus HD and I'm left with the incredibly stunning hockey action in SD on The Comcast Network.  Please note that I'm not complaining about blackouts here (althought I think those ideas are a bit archaic in the world of pay TV).  I'm upset that my provider doesn't provide me an HD feed (which I pay extra for) of The Comcast Network.  Thus, Versus is off the hook, The Comcast Network is off the hook, and I'm left to point the finger... again... at Verizon FiOS.  How long will it be before we bring this channel to the HD lineup.
PS.  Before one of the admins responds to this with the usual... "Great idea, you should post it in the appropriate forum"... save your keystrokes!  I, and many others have tried the suggest a channel route and have seen very little done.  If you're going to have these forums for your customers, might I suggest having answers for us.  If you don't have answers, then go to your bosses and demand them.  Customer service folks.
Many thanks for taking the time... again... to read my post.

I apologize you are not happy with our responses to customers suggestions. We are always looking for customer input to make changes to the FiOS system. There have been customer suggestions for channels that have been successful, the most recent was for MSG in HD. We just won the rights through much persistence to be able to offer it in areas that we were not able to offer it before. http://libn.com/2011/09/23/fcc-tells-cablevision-to-give-fios-msg-in-hd/ . We do post numerous solutions in these forums, that is why we have them. Ideas though is a different ball park, they are mere suggestions. Just because someone has an idea, doesn't mean it will go to fruition though. The way to get those ideas to the people responsible for making those decisions is through the Idea Forums at http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-Idea-Exchange/ct-p/ideaexchange . We will never be able to adopt everyone else's suggestions, but as we see trends we act upon them. So if you would like a chance of that channel being adopted, please submit your idea there that way others can vote on it and we can see how popular it is.

  • I have a new comcast modem i have connected to Time Capsule with cable, TC in double NAT. As when I tried it in bridge mode I cannot use Sonos, the units will not connect to the wifi network? I thought Bridge mode would make the wifi signal better??

I have the TC connected to the comcast modem, with TC in Double NAT mode. I set up the sonos music players ok. But I read that to incresae the wifi signal the TC should be in Bridge mode. Then I cannot get any of the Sonos units to connect to the wifi network.
So two questions, does the Bridge mode give a better wifi signal then double NAT?
Why will sonos not connect to the network when in Bridge mode?

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • NO LUCK sending email (with Comcast) via the EDGE Network

Cannot Send E-Mail via EDGE Network
My primary email account is with Comcast, and using my iPhone with any Wi-Fi network I am successfully able to send/receive email.
However, using the EDGE network I cannot send email. I found a tip on appending a port number to the outgoing mail setting (smtp.comcast.net), but this didn't work either.
I consistently get one of these two error messages:
"Sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server"
    -or-
"The connection to the server 'smtp.comcast.net' failed"
I can receive email with either EDGE or Wi-Fi networks.
Any suggestions? I need to be able to not only receive but also SEND email via the EDGE network.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Tim

Your other option is to sign up for a free GMail account, and use their outgoing server. You need to create your account on the iPhone using the "Other" shortcut, which allows you to specify your comcast address, your comcast incoming mail server, but the GMail outgoing server. This will work with both Edge and WiFi.

  • Does Mixing 802.11n with .11g Devices Slow the Whole Network?

    Hi all,
I'm considering buying the new Airport Extreme as I also have a new Macbook Pro that supports 802.11n. I also have a couple Airport Expresses on my network, and my question is this:
Will the presence of the Airport Express units (which are 802.11g) drag the whole network into .11g speeds? I ask this because of this note on the Airport Extreme page:
Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network.
    Thanks for any guidance.

I did this the same way....
I connected my cable modem directly to the WAN port of my new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. I have selected 'n' only (5GHz). I call this network Saturn.
There are 3 ethernet ports on this new base station. Wired to one of these ports is my 802.11g Snow Airport Extreme Base Station. This base station will handle any 'g' services (like my friends who are using MacBooks/iBooks/PCs). I have 2 AirPort Express base stations that I use to play music on remote speakers, and wireless printing. It also has 2 Linksys wireless USB 'b' devices that connect to it, which 2 of my TiVos use to get their daily updates. I wanted to keep all of this stuff off the 'n' network since I heard it would slow it down. I call this 'g' network Zodiak. I can see both networks in my AirPort menu, and can select either.
In addition, I have an xBox that I connected directly to one of the wired ethernet ports on the 'n' base station, and I have a Linksys switch that is wired to the 'g' base station.
My only complaint is that I can't get to all of this stuff that is on the 'g' network. Which means, if I want to print something, I need to change my network, if I want to play iTunes out of my stereo speakers, I need to change the network, and if I want to use my TiVo to display photos, I need to change networks. I was hoping I'd still be able to get to that stuff since the 'g' network is hard wired into the ethernet port of the 'n' network. Oh well. I'm only on a 6MB Comcast service, so perhaps I'll try mixing the 'g' network in and seeing how bad it affects performance.
I'm getting 2.5 mb/sec on a hard drive transfer...can't imagine that being much worse on 'g'.

  • How would you use these Apple devices to create the best network?

I have the following devices and want to create the best network for my 3 story home:
Time Capsule 3GB, latest generation (needs to be located on middle floor in a corner room by the Comcast modem)
    Time Capsule late 2009
    Airport Express 2010
More data, the devices that connect to this network:
New MacBook pro (in same room with new Time Capsule)
New iMac (in same room with Time Capsule)
    2009 iMac (on second floor)
    Iphone 5 and 5s
    ipad Minis
    ipad Airs
    Apple TV second generation
I've done some testing and the signal is pretty good on the second floor (meaning that the download speeds on the second floor iMac are the same as those in the same room with the new Time Capsule).  But the upstairs bedrooms have speeds cut by 50%.
There is no reasonable way to connect the new Time Capsule by ethernet to any other devices.
Would it be helpful to extend the wireless network "wirelessly" with the old Time Capsule in an area upstairs with strong signal?  Would the old TC then "re-pump" the signal into the bedrooms which don't have line of sight with the new TC?
How would I best do this?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Time Capsule 3GB, latest generation (needs to be located on middle floor in a corner room by the Comcast modem)
    Time Capsule late 2009
    Airport Express 2010
So, the old Time Capsule and AirPort Express are near the new Time Capsule and connected to it with an Ethernet cable.....or are the old Time Capsule and Express not even in use at all?
Would it be helpful to extend the wireless network "wirelessly" with the old Time Capsule in an area upstairs with strong signal?
While it would be better if you could connect the old Time Capsule to the new Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection, the old Time Capsule might help things out a bit in the bedroom area if it is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the new Time Capsule.
This is one of those situations where performance cannot be predicted and you simply have to try it out in your home to see how well it will work. It could not hurt to use the old TC to extend the signal wirelessly to the bedroom area, if you want to give that a try.
You did not mention the AirPort Express, but it could possibly be located downstairs if you need more wireless signal coverage in a given area. The trick again, is to find a location where the Express can both receive a strong wireless signal and also provide additional wireless coverage.
Setting up the old Time Capsule or Express will only take a few minutes if you want to give things a try. Post back if you need more details on "how" to do this.

My iPhone will no longer picks-up the wifi at home(comcast). My mom used to have comcast and I used to connect there as well, but she changed to verison and I connect there, but no longer can get the comcast wi-fi at home.  The wi-fi settings are ok there, but blank at home now.  The phone's network settings are fine because I can join other wifi networks.  I've done a reset with no results.  Is there a manual way for me to restore the comcast wifi from the router?

First thanks for the reply and second sorry about the confusion.  I was unable to get the full message out, but here's the problem:
Like I had mentioned, for a long time both me and my Mom had comcast and as soon as I came into both dwellings the phone would automatically jump onto either wifi network.  Then a while ago she verison and used the same Belkin router.  So there was no problem and my phone jumped on her system as usual, but at some point something happened and when I got home I noticed that the phone asked to be put on my system.  I would input the password, but it would say "unable to connect" to the network.  I did the standard things like check the network settings on the phone itself and they were fine.  Then I did a reset (actually twice) with the same result.  It seems like the phone ability to pick-up wi-fi is ok because when I go to my University I can log-in with no problem.  The only thing I noticed is when I look at the settings (on the iPhone) for the router at home the whole thing is blank.  My question is: Is there a manual way to get the phone to pick-up my router?  I need to have it on my network at home because I use DocumentsToGo a lot.  Thanks again for your response again and I hope things are clear now.  Have a great day.

  • Time Capsule used as router attached to Comcast Modem. wireless stops working. All I have to do is unplug the TC and plug it back in and TC cycles up and have green light as well as the Comcast modem operates correctly. TC 4 yrs old. How do I correct?

Time Capsule used as router attached to Comcast Modem. Wireless stops working with no light showing and Link indicator on modem off.
All I have to do is unplug the TC and plug it back in.
TC cycles up and green light appears as well as the Comcast modem operates correctly.
TC 4 yrs old. How do I correct?

I have the latest and greatest Time Capsule and Comcast. Here is the weird thing. If I have one network set up, then occasionally that network will wedge. If I set up a 5GHz and a 2.4GHz network, then one of them (usually the 5GHz) will wedge. I saw this with a previous Time Capsule, Apple said call Comcast. They checked it out and said it was Apple's problem. Apple said maybe you Time Capsule is bad, so I bought a new one. The problem persists.
Tonight it's not complely wedged, but super slow. The 5GHz network is getting 0.45Mb/s while the 2.4GHz network is getting 17Mb/s. Both are coming in from the same Comcast cable modem. Apparently the Time Capsule treats them as separate.
Is it the cable modem or the Time Capsule. I am betting on the Time Capsule, since rebooting it fixes the problem. Resetting the cable modem does not.
Apple is NO HELP at all. They say reset the Time Capsule. Did that fix it? Yes. Problem solved! No, problem not solved. It will happen again in a few hours.

  • Home sharing suddenly stopped working. All devices have home sharing enabled, all devices are using the same network but cant see each other

I've gone through all the Googling and support forums I can handle.. They all tell me to the same things. I have done everything required and quite honestly Home Sharing was working for quite some time. So I don't think I changed anything.
The only culprit I can think of is the wireless network. We had to call Comcast and reset our service, and they gave us a new modem. Our router is also new.
Is there a setting in a router that lets multiple devices connect but blocks each of them to each other? That seems to be what's happening.
Apple TV2 can see our connection no problem and can download trailers (downloading movies never works though!!!), we have two Macs and two iPhones and all are on our wireless and none can connect to one another using Home Sharing.
Please help!! This is an odd one!!

I believe this is true. Alas, I wrote this a while ago and the link is dead. I can't totally remember what the issue was.
But, looking through the PDF for the Linksys e2000, searching for 'filter multicast' I see this:
Filter Multicast The multicasting feature allows for multiple transmissions to specific recipients at the same time . If multicasting is permitted, then the Router will allow IP multicast packets to be forwarded to the appropriate computers . Select this option to enable the filter . This option is disabled by default.
And in my settings it's been enabled. So maybe try that.
Filter multicast is under Securtiy>Firewall after you log in as admin.
Why it's disabled by default I do not know.
Good luck! Hope this is the solution!! Apple should warn people of this feature conflict to Apple TV buyers.

  • Settings to use airport extreme as an extender to the Comcast Gateway (3)?

I have been using my airport extreme in bridge mode, but now want to use it as an extender without connecting the ethernet cable to the Comcast Gateway (3).  I can't seem to get the Gateway software to recognize the airport extreme as an extender.  What settings do I need?

I install a lot of AirPorts, and I recommend if you can't run ethernet, then use a power line extender to feed the AirPort.  You will be disappointed extending your network with wi-fi.
If you must, then fully reset the AirPort and start over.  It should find the existing HOME-xxxx network and want to use as a bridge.  If it doesn't find the network, then with your browser go into the GUI on the gateway at http://10.0.0.1 and find the trusted device page, you might need to modify the setting if the MAC address of the AirPort shows up.  Logon is admin and password is password.
Depending on the location of the equipment, you might want to bridge the gateway and use your AirPort as your main router and wi-fi, since it's far superior over a gateway.

  • I am having a data excess usage issue with my Jetpack although I did not use the VZW network at all.

Background: My home does not have access to landline internet and I am relying on a Verizon Jetpack device rather than satellite cable for internet access.  Within my JetPack wireless network I have several devices connected, iPADs, PC’s, printer, etc. (up to 5 devices can be connected with my system).  Recently, I had one device within my immediate wireless network that I needed to transfer data via FTP to another local device within my immediate network.  The receiving device FTP’d data from device (198.168.1.42) to local IP (address 192.168.1.2).  To understand the data path a Trace rout for this transfer is 198.168.1.42 (source) to 198.168.1.1 (Jetpack) to 192.168.1.2 (receiver).  Note that the VZW network ((cloud)/4G network) was NOT used in this transfer nor was any VZW bandwidth used for this transfer (of course less the typical overhead status/maintenance communications that happen regardless). Use of the VZW bandwidth would be something like downloading a movie from Netflix, (transferring data from a remote site, through the VZW network, into the Jetpack and to the target device).  I also understand if ones devices have auto SW updates that would also go against the usage as well.  I get that.  My understanding of my usage billing is based data transfer across the VZW network.
Now to the problem: To my surprise I was quite substantially charged for the “internal” direct transfer of this data although I didn’t use the VZW network at all.  This does not seem to be right, and doesn’t make much sense to me.  Usage is should be based on the VZW network not a local Wi-Fi.  In this case, Verizon actually gets free money from me without any use of or impact to the VZW network.  Basically this is a VERY expensive rental for the jetpack device, which I bought anyway.  Considering this, I am also charged each time I print locally.  Dive into this further, I am also interested in knowing what is the overhead (non-data) communications between the jetpack router and devices and how much does that add up to over time?
Once I realized I was getting socked in bandwidth, as a temp solution I found an old Wi-Fi router, created a separate Wi-Fi network off the Jetpack, but the billing damage was already done.  Switching each device back and forth to FTP and print is a hassle and there should be no reason the existing hardware couldn’t handle this and charges aligned with VSW usage. Is purposely intended by Verizon? Is this charging correct? And can I get some help with this?
Logically, usage should be based on VZW network usage not internal transfers.  All transfers between IP addresses 192.168 are by default internal.  Any data that needs to leave the internal network are translated in to the dynamic IP addresses established by the VZW network.  That should be very easily detected for usage. In the very least, this fact needs to be clearly identified and clarified to users of the Jetpack.  How would one use a local network and not get socked with usage charges?  Can one set up a Wi-Fi network with another router, hardwire directly from the router to the Jetpack so that only data to and from the VZW network is billed? I might be able to figure out how to have the jetpack powered on but disable the VZW connection, but I don’t want to experiment and find out that the internal transfers are being logged and the log sent after the fact anyway once I connect…. A reasonable solution should be that users be able to use the router functions of the Jetpack (since one has to buy the device anyway) and only be billed for VZW usage.
Your help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Multiple Users Mounting the Same Network Share?

    Hello, first time posting...
I'll cut right to my main question: Is it possible, on OS X v10.3.9, for multiple users to simultaneously connect to the same network share?
Here in my office, we have a single Mac that is used by multiple people throughout the day. It has two accounts on it, 'Communications' and 'Studio'. 'Communications' is an Admin account that is used by a co-worker who spends the most time on the Mac. He created the no-limitation 'Studio' account for the rest of us to use.
There is a certain Windows network share that we both frequently use. We've found that if one user connects to the share first, the other user will not have access to it; using 'Go -> Connect to Server' will result in the share being greyed out in the list, and the share will not show up in the Finder.
However, there is one way around it. If Studio connects to the share first and then Communications (the admin account) attempts to make a connection of it's own *through a shortcut on the dock*, then a 'clone' of the share will be created on Comm's desktop, with a "-1" after the name (though it might be some other number).
This may sound like I've answered my own question, but what I'm looking for is a way for the non-Admin account to access the share after the Admin account already has (so that we don't have to log-in and disconnect Communications everytime Studio needs to manage files on the share).
We have Thursby Software's DAVE installed on the Mac, but I'm not sure how it fits into all this.
    Any thoughts, suggestions or advice?
    Thanks.

Bizarre. It turned out I could merge them, but only in to the mapped drive - L: - and only by explicitly clicking on the drive icon - if I typed L:\series in to dialog box it converted it back to \\nas\share\series... Not helpful.

Migration Assistant has been running since yesterday evening.  My Dell is now telling me that its trying to reconnect to my Mac and to ensure they are both using the same network.  I have an Ethernet cable plugged in them and they are both on the same WiFi.  What can I do?

    Hello Wyodor,
thanks for your reply on my question.
You are wright the index file is 308 KB.
And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)
    greetings Lasource

  • On the Comcast email site, on the "Inbox Preview" page, if I click on "View Entire Inbox" or on a particular message, Firefox will just return me to the Inbox P

On the Comcast mail site, I cannot get past the "Inbox Preview" page. If I hit anything, including "View Entire Inbox" or on a particular message, or anything else, I'll just be returned to the "Inbox Preview" page. This only happens on Firefox. When it started happening, I finally gave up and tried Internet Explorer, which works fine. I'd prefer to access email on Firefox, so please tell me how to correct this.
I don't know if this is related, but immediately before this started happening, I may have hit something on my laptop, which caused the Comcast email screen to magnify to the point where I could not view the message window on messages. I couldn't figure out how reverse this, so I did the above (went to IE, which was fine). When I next attempted to access Comcast email from Firefoxe, the site was no longer magnified, but I had the above problem with being unable to get past the Inbox Preview page.
