The parameter of SQL function 'unistr'

Hi guys,
Today I tried with SQL function 'unistr', found it strange in the parameter...
My environment:
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
CORE    11.2.0.2.0    Production

and

"CORE    11.2.0.3.0    Production"
TNS for Solaris: Version 11.2.0.3.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.3.0 - Production
client is PL/SQL Developer 7.1.4.1390
As documented, I tried with a Unicode encoding value, but got blank (not a NULL):
SELECT unistr('\00f6') FROM dual;
but when I tried a value with some character appended, it worked:
SELECT unistr('\00f6 ') FROM dual;
ö
SELECT unistr('\00f6a') FROM dual;
ö
SELECT unistr('\00f6*') FROM dual;
ö
Is it caused by the client, anyone helps?

When I tried sqlplus, I got the same result as you, I believe it's from the client.
My character set is OK I think, it's from sqlplus:
SQL> SELECT * FROM v$version;

And I tried with dbms_output.put_line to output the character, it's correct.

  • Exact syntax for the LDAP Username Edit Function

    Hi,
    I have followed the How-To on setting up LDAP as an authentication method but I am having trouble specifying the "Username Edit Function".
    I have a database table which contains a list of user email addresses and associated distinguished name (dn) as stored in an external LDAP...I populated this table using DBMS_LDAP. I want to allow the user to enter his/her email address and email password and execute a small lookup function (GET_DISTINGUISHED_NAME) to fetch the corresponding DN and pass it along to the built-in LDAP authentication.
    I have tried several things to get this to work such as:
    "get_distinguished_name(p_username)" - Returns ERR-10412 and then ORA-06550: line 2, column 1: PLS-00801: internal error [22503] ORA-06550: line 2, column 1: PL/SQL: Statement ignored.
    "get_distinguished_name(p_username);" - same as above.
    and so on. Rather than list each and every attempt here, could someone tell me what the syntax should be for specifying this function call?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ted

    Hi, Sergio
    Thanks for this. I had read the "Using LDAP for Login Authentication" document but I guess I did not correctly understand the "Enter 'return your_function;'" instruction properly...I thought I had to pass p_username as a parameter to my function. After ensuring that "p_username" was the name of the parameter in my function definition, I hit another error but another post in this forum showed me how to fix that issue (Re: Error ERR-10416 Error executing wwv_flow_custom_auth_ldap.authenticate Nov 20, 2003 5:24 PM ) and I am now able to get the LDAP Tool to authenticate okay.
    Do you think I can dynamically set the value for the "LDAP Host" field? We actually have two different email systems (results of a recent merger) and I'll need to find a way to have my LDAP authentication go against one or the other, depending upon what organization they were originally from. I can get this LDAP Host IP Address from my database tables but I am not sure how I could set it within the Authentication Scheme. Could I do something in the "Pre-Authentication Process"?

  • Report- Pl/sql function returning sql query parsing page items as text?

    Hi Team,
    I am facing a strange issue .
    I have four page items namely
    1)JOB_CODE
    2)MIN_EXP
    3) MAX_EXP
    4) SOURCES1
    I have a report of the type "Pl/sql function returning sql query"
    declare
    v_sql varchar2(4000);
    begin
    if (:JOB_CODE IS NOT NULL and :MIN_EXP IS NOT NULL and :MAX_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql:= 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    elsif (:JOB_CODE IS NULL and :MIN_EXP IS NOT NULL and :MAX_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql := 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    elsif (:MIN_EXP IS NULL and :JOB_CODE IS NOT NULL and :MAX_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql := 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    elsif (:MAX_EXP is null and :JOB_CODE IS NOT NULL and :MIN_EXP IS NOT NULL and :SOURCES1 IS NOT NULL) then
    v_sql := 'select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and source like ' || '''' || '%'|| ':SOURCES1' || '%' || '''';
    end if;
    insert into query_list values (v_sql);
    insert into debug values (:JOB_CODE , :MIN_EXP , :MAX_EXP , :SOURCES1);
    return v_sql;
    end;
    Please not that I am insertin the query into a table called Query_list and the page item values into the table called Debug thru the pl/sql function which returns teh query.
    Now I select the data from the debug tables.
    select unique(query) from query_list;
    select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = :JOB_CODE and v_experience_years >= :MIN_EXP and v_experience_years <= :MAX_EXP and source like '%:SOURCES1%'
    select * from debug;
    JOBCODE     MINEX     MAXEX     SOURCE
    21     1     10     donkeyHire
    And if I run the query in sql I get some records returned
    select v_candidate_id, v_fname,v_current_employer,v_Experience_years from candidature where V_REQUIREMENT = 21 and v_experience_years >= 1 and v_experience_years <= and source like 'donkeyHire'
    V_CANDIDATE_ID     V_FNAME     V_CURRENT_EMPLOYER     V_EXPERIENCE_YEARS
    2     Vengu     Andale Tech     4
    But the record does not show up in the report!
    does this type of report parse page items as text?
    Why is it so?
    Waiting for an early reply.
    Thanks,
    venkat

    Venkat - You don't want to put ':SOURCES1' in quotes like that.

  • Pl/sql function body returning SQL query - Print function

    Hello all,
    I have pl/sql function body returning SQL query for my reports for my new project that I am developing. We dont have any BI tool or anything for APEX so we use Oracle reports to get the same reports to be printed in PDF format. I had been using SQL function for Reports all these days and grabbing the data using SQL query was easy in Oracle reports. But this time we had atleast 8 fields in search criteria and hence I thouhgt PL/sql function body returning SQL query could be something easy to handle that scenario. We have 11 such reports in our project. Now when we tried to use the same PL/sql function to oracle reports , I was told by one of our Oracle reports expert, that we have to write it into functions and use it in SQL query to get the Reports in Oracle reports. Is there any Easy way to convert the same Pl/SQL function or get a PDF format of the same report in APEX without going thru the much pains of rewriting the whole SQL Query.
    thank you

    Hi,
    Where can I find the list of SQL Functions supported by RDBMS Adapter?
    I am retrieving date from Oracle 9i using RDBMS Adapter 8.1 SP2.However when I use any SQL Function (like to_char, to_date) in select query the service creation fails with a parsing exception.
    Please help me resolving this.I want a date to be selected as a string in a particular format.

    Sorry,just got the resolution in Known Limitations of the adapter Release Notes. Actually we have to create a service of arbitory sql for using SQL Functions in the query.

  • PL/SQL Function in AIX

    Hello,
    I am required to use the following PL/SQL function as part of my procedure:
    Create or replace function fqman."test" (name in varchar2, url in varchar 2, page in varchar2, uname in varchar2, password
    in varchar 2, key_ in varchar2, pass in varchar2, file1 in varchar2, file2 in varchar2) return number

    I started doing that. I did the following:

    page=$3
    uname=$4

    Let me get this straight,...
    you have a PL/SQL functions which is a wrapper for the java program.
    You don't want to use the PL/SQL function, but you want to call the java program directly using shell script.
    And yet you post your question of the forum that is dedicated to SQL and PL/SQL ...
    see the irony in that?

  • How to call PL/SQL function from ODBC

    Greetings (and thanks for reading),
    I am using Oracle 9i (9.2.0.4) database, running on SUN [sparc] Solaris 9. I have created the following types:
    create or replace type NAME_VAL_TYP is object
    (NAME   varchar2(30)
    ,VALUE  varchar2(30))
    create or replace type PARMS_VARRAY_TYP is varray(10) of
    NAME_VAL_TYP
    /and the following PL/SQL function:
    function F0 (P_PARAMS  PARMS_VARRAY_TYP) return numberHow do I call this function from ODBC?
    Thanks (in advance),
    Avi.

    Sorry, this is not mapped in the ODBC driver--none of the object types are. The spec doesn't really account for them.

  • Conditional display using Pl/SQL function body returning a boolean

    I am having issues with conditional display of a report.
    I have to select lists: p50_facility and p50_supervisor.
    I have entered the below pl/sql function body returning a boolean
    Begin
    if (:p50_facility is null or
    :p50_supervisor is null) THEN
    Return False;
    Else
    Return True;
    End if;
    End;
    No matter what values my items are set to (null, not null), the report shows.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    The values for the lists will be null only until the first time the page is submitted. Thereafter, the value is likely to be '%null%'
    You will need to do something like:
    BEGIN
    IF (:P50_FACILITY IS NULL OR :P50_FACILITY = '%' || 'null%' OR :P50_SUPERVISOR IS NULL OR :P50_SUPERVISOR = '%' || 'null%') THEN
      RETURN FALSE;
    ELSE
      RETURN TRUE;
    END IF;
    END;Andy

  • Error Using LISTAGG SQL Function

    Hello,
    I'm trying to use the new LISTAGG SQL function with the following expression in a report:
    select listagg(email, ';') within group (order by email) as email_list from sba_registration_entries where team=241
    and I get the following SQL error in Apex SQL Workshop:
    ORA-00923: FROM keyword not found where expected
    Is this function enabled on the apex.oracle.com site? Am I using the correct syntax?

    Hi,
    The current database on apex.oracle.com is "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production"
    The LISTAGG function seems to be from version 11.2: [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10592/functions087.htm] ?

  • Register PL/SQL functions

    Hi,
    I want to use the EXTRACT function in Discoverer. I went through the Help for the «Import PL/SQL function» without success....
    When I click the «Import» button, I see a HUGE list of functions, and I don't recognize which is the one I want.
    I use that EXTRACT in the same database with PL/SQL developer and it works fine, but I get a «Function EXTRACT has not been registered with the EUL» message when I try to use it in Discoverer.
    Any one knows how to «bring» the right function in the EUL ??
    Thanks.

    I was able to import a Oracle standard package function SYS_CONTEXT and view it in Discoverer Desktop/Plus.
    However when I create my own package function in a schema "xxdev" and then import via Disco Admin, I cannot view this function in Discoverer Desktop/Plus. These are the steps that I followed to implement it:
    1. create package in xxdev schema
    2. grant execute on package to noetix_sys & noetix_eul
    3. register the function in Disco Admin
    4. login to Disco Desktop/Plus and try creating a calculation field and lookup functions.
    The function is not visible. I followed the exact same steps for STANDARD.SYS_CONTEXT function and it was visible. Is something missing in my steps to do?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Parameter passing to custom SQL query using PL/SQL FUNCTION

    Hi
    In order to pass a parameter to the query in custom folder of a business area I created a function and mapped it to the Custome query using Discoverer Desktop. There is no error in mapping as the system does not throw any error. When I am inputting the Parameter for the input values everytime the query doesnot return any rows.
    Can anybody help in this regard

    Hi,
    I need to take the request Id as input from the user and then fetch only the data pertaining to that requet Id. As a lot of complex joins are involved I need to pass request id as parameter to the custome folder.
    The package i greated:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE SETPARAM
    AS
    param1 varchar2(25);
    param2 varchar2(25);
    FUNCTION SET_PARAM1(p1 IN varchar2) RETURN NUMBER ;
    FUNCTION GET_PARAM1 RETURN varchar2;
    END SETPARAM;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY SETPARAM AS
    FUNCTION SET_PARAM1(p1 IN varchar2) RETURN NUMBER IS
    BEGIN
    fnd_client_info.set_org_context('138');
    param1 := p1;
    dbms_output.put_line(param1);
    RETURN 1;
    END;
    FUNCTION GET_PARAM1 RETURN varchar2 AS
    BEGIN
    RETURN param1;
    END;
    END SETPARAM;
    I registered the set_param1 function as a pl/sql function in discoverer admin.
    This function is called on the condition associated with the parameter in Discoverer Desktop when i run the report.
    In the custom folder query i have this piece in the where clause
    WHERE tnfo.request_id = NVL(APPS.SETPARAM.GET_PARAM1,7383588)
    And everytime i get the data pertaining to request id =7383588,
    Please suggest where i went wrong
    thanks
    Ashwini
