The Simplicity of Saving a Project

Having just learned iDVD I am surprisingly confused at the process of saving a project. Here's the scenerio...I "share" an edited iMovie to iDVD. From there I edit the menus (titles, secene selections, music, etc) but I am not ready to burn a DVD, I wish to do that the next day. How do I save what I have done thus far?
Likewise, when I complete the project and burn a DVD I would like to save the project so I can burn again at a later date.
-Also, does it matter if I'm in "Best Performance" vs. "Best Quality" for the saving process?
Thanks

Welcome tofroh
Yes, it matters if you are in best performance vs. best quality. You have to have an idea of the total playback length before you begin an idvd and this preference is set from the start.
Ask yourself .... will my presentation exceed 60 mins? if so, use Best Quality. If it's under 60 mins. then select Best Performance. Otherwise, you will have to reencode your iDVD6 project should you change your mind later.
Please explain the issue you are having saving a project. Will it not do this for you? If your intention is to save an existing iDVD6 project for rerwork at a later date ... then I suggest you do this:

On the other hand if you do not plan to make any further modifications to the iDVD whatsoever and simply wish to make additional copies later, then use apple's Disc Utilities or Roxio Toast to make a copy of the existing DVD. Or if you prefer, you can make more copies from a disc image (provided one was created and saved to the hard drive). To make a Disc Image of your iDVD6 Project, do this:

Hope this is Helpful.

Logic Pro Froze in the middle of saving a project. It stayed that way for 30 minutes. When I forced quit, it did not save the project, and my last save was an hour previous (including project backup files). Is there a way to recover what I did, or has that hour of work been lost?

Accept it and forget, it is lost for ever.
But.........your new ideas will surpass anything you did before!, I'm sure!

    tworules,
You haven't mentioned the exact version of Photoshop you are running.  As the always helpful and knowledgeable JJMack told you, new versions of Photoshop do have auto save and recovery when enabled in your Photoshop Preferences.
However, no auto recovery and/or autosave is a match for a defective machine.  As suggested by Mr. Cox, you should do a thorough inspection of all your hardware ASAP.

  • I just updated to the latest aperture, i have projects previously saved on a drive (in the old version) that now won't load... how do i update them?

    Hi,
i just updated to the latest aperture, i have projects previously saved on a drive (in the old version) that now won't load... how do i update them?

But, unless I missed something, you are doing the repair with Aperture 3.5 so if 3.5 can't open an earlier library before doing the upgrade then unless I'm missing something the library will be upgraded before the repair is run, no?
    OT:
You got me there, Frank - I wondered about the same thing, but Aperture is behaving differently, when upgrading a library, depending on if you are launching into the First Aid Tools or not.
I repeated my experiments, to explore this difference:
I restored an Aperture 3.4.3 library and launched the First Aid Tools:
Apertur went directly into First Aid Mode without first asking to upgrade.
Then "Repair" asked to be allowed to upgrade the library as you predicted.
During the upgrade "Aperture"showed "Rebuilding", not "Repairing" or "upgrading".
Second experiment: When I only double-click the 3.4.3 library instead of repairing, the upgrade alert is very different:
It takes a shorter time and does not show "rebuilding".
I am quite certain, that Aperture will use a different upgrade prodecure, when launched into the First Aid panel for repairing or rebuilding.

Assuming this is an external HD, use finder to select the drive with your original computer, then press Cmd+i to show info. Go to the bottom of the info window and make sure 'Ignore ownership of this volume' is checked so that other computers can access it.

I am using browser as Internet Explorer 9
In Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 after creating application, project and process
From BPM MDS Navigator I configured the connection for Database 11g XE as well using
    Override Application Server user/password
For SOA MDS I included the dev_mds user with MDS partition as obpm
tested connections all ok (weblogic and soa_server1 up and running)
In Jdeveloper I am able to export the BPM successfully.
In the BPM Project Navigator when I use the Project --> SalesQuote.jpr --> right clicking with

If the error is resolved than I can see the project in BPM composer.
My queries on this error are
    1) Has soa_server anything to do with this error
    2) Is dev_mds schema to be reviewed
what can be the possibility to resolve the BPM-70801 error.
Please provide the solution ASAP or send me the reply to my  [email protected]

    Hello Ajaz,
BPM-70801 is a very generic error that can have multiple causes. Please provide the error log from servers log file. From what I understand, you are using a separate soa_server1, so watch out /your_domain/servers/soa_server1/logs/soa_server1.log

  • How do you edit the audio files in the slideshow  of my idvd project?

I have created a project in idvd and I dragged and dropped in the music files from the audio tab that I wanted - I selected multiple songs (2) and I hear them play just fine. The problem is that I want one song to play for a certain section of the photos and then I want the other song to start at a particular point. Why am I not able to edit the music in the slideshow and how can I do that?

iMovie is a good way to do this if your project is film based. If your using photos (slideshow) in iDVD, I would be inclinded to use GarageBand to edit the audio portion of your project (It may be just me, but whenever I've attempted to create a slideshow in iMovie, the photos look "grainy" to me, not as clear).
If you know the time of when you want your songs to change, you can adjust the length (time) of each song in GarageBand as well as fade in/fade out transition of the two or more songs. After saving, you then can access the saved audio mix via the audio tab in iDVD. (I'm making an assumption that one might be familiar enough with GarageBand to do this

  • FCP7: How do I save 5 small separate Scenes, saved by project, to only one final project?

    Specs: FCP7 Software
    MCH70 Panasonic Camera
Using a college, Media Lab, Desktop Mac.
I captured files but had some trouble at first.
Then I saved each Scene (in my short 5 minute total project) as separate projects.
I have edited them and they all have separate sequences in each saved project.
Now I want to put them altogether and make one Master Project (so I can see if I exceeded my 5 minute project restriction).
I tried importing them but no luck. Then I copied all the sequences into one New Project, or maybe they just moved, not sure.
Don't know if that was the right thing to do or what the next step is. I am worried about damaging my already edited files.
I heard ultimately in other forums that I might be able to copy the individual clips into one folder and then import them into a new project?

You have each "scene" edited as a separate project?
This is not a useful way to work.
To combine all the sequences into one ("Master" or "Show") project:
Create a new project with matching project settings to all your previous work. Give this project a unique name and save it.
Now go to the menu  File > Open and navigate to and open your "scene" project(s). Repeat until all are open.
You will see they appear as tabs in the FCP Browser:
Once all the projects are open, you can go to the timeline of (for example) the first scene, click anywhere in the timeline and then select all (Command + A), and then copy the contents of that timeline (Command + C). Switch to the timeline of your new project and paste it there (Command + V). Once done, make sure the playhead on that new timeline is at the end of the pasted content, then do the same with the next scene. Repeat as necessary, until you have all the content in one timeline. and then check your total duration.
    Save everything.

  • Why all the copies of files in Projects?

Looking at the folders in 'Movies' they seem fairly self-explanatory:
'iMovie Events' - contains folders of imported event clips
'iMoview Projects' - contains the current and saved projects
'iMovie Sharing' - seems to hold copies of exports to iTunes in a folder named after the appropriate project, maybe YouTube stuff goes here too but I don't have an account. Not .Mac Gallery movies though.
Anyhow looking at a project folder that is 184.3MB size, 182.3MB of that is taken up my 3 movies:
    tiny.3gp
    mobile.m4v
    large.m4v
The tiny/mobile files are what got uploaded to my .Mac account, and the large.m4v is identical to an m4v file which I exported to AppleTV.
    So, what's the problem?
Well, why do I need the copies of things uploaded to .Mac shouldn't they have been deleted after upload?
Why do I need 3 copies (4 if I was syncing the AppleTV) of the large.m4v file?
There's one, large.m4v in the project folder, one in the iTunes subfolder of iMovie sharing, with the actual exported one in my iTunes library (I've checked using Show in Finder).
So for a 6 minute clip of video I've probably got 320MB effectively of 'copies', so it looks as though this application will eat drive space like there's no tomorrow.
Am I missing something or an unselected Preference?
    AC

iMovie '08 operates on a new model as I've said elsewhere in this forum.
DV video is no longer the prefered format for storage - your 6 minute clip would require 1.3 GB if it was in DV form. iMovie '08 is designed to make all your clips easily accessable. You will probably want to store your 'Events' on external drives, and iMovie '08 supports this.
We all have a lot to learn to learn about how to work with iMovie '08.

  • What's actually IN a saved iDVD project?

After upgrading to iLife '06, I wanted to burn a new copy of an iMovie project I first put on iDVD a few weeks ago. I've never done this before; always burned all copies at once.
When I open the named/saved iDVD project (both from within Documents and via Open Recent), it shows me empty Drop Zones and a blank menu. Where's the theme/audio etc. I put together when I first created the project?
    Thanks.

It is easiest to duplicate a video-DVD with Toast (i.e. a 3rd party app).
With the Disk Utility it is very easy to accidentally burn a data-DVD (instead of a video-DVD), so follow these instructions strictly:
    - Using Disk Utility (Mac OS X 10.3 and higher):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42724
    1. Insert the DVD-R video disc that you created with iDVD into the SuperDrive.
    2. Open the Disk Utility application (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility).
    3. Select the disc (not just the disc session) you want to copy from the listing.
    4. From the Images menu, choose New and the choose Image from "your disk name".
    5. Type a file name and choose "DVD/CD Master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.
    6. Click the Create button. After the image has been created you should see it in the disk listing in the Disk Utility window.
    7. Eject the DVD-R video disc.
    8. Select the disk image you created from the listing (that *.img is also mounted on the Desktop).
    9. Click the Burn icon in the toolbar.
    10. When prompted, insert a blank DVD-R disc.
    11. Click the Burn button.

    Hi All,
I need to know whether there is any exit which gets called when I save the Production Order.
In our project Serial No as well as Production Order gets created when we save the Production Order.
I have to pass "Basic Start Date" to a FM which generates Serial No.I can hit some DB table if i know
Planned Order no at the time of saving of Production Order. So i want the user exit at the time of saving Prod Order
I have also tried one program which gives all the User exits for a certain Transaction. But the user exit mentioned in that is not getting called.
    Thanks in Advance,

    Hi
Since a clean install about a month ago, I am unable to open all saved Garageband projects without tracks or instruments missing and GB wanting to search for the files missing.
I am not sure if this is something to do with 10.8.2 or more recently with 10.8.3 or a problem installing from the oringal DVD and chaning the date my mac.  I had so many problems previously trying to install iPhoto from the DVD I have now bought the app from the App Store.
    Thanks in advance.

After  I saved my project in Premiere Pro, a few hours later I can't open my project anymore, what can I do?

We need waaaaaaay more information. Here's the stock request for info to provide: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
    And here are essential particulars:
Win or Mac? Exactly which version?
Version of Premiere Pro -- the exact number as shown in the About box.
What exactly happens when you try to open the project? Do you get an error message? Does Premiere crash? Hang?
How exactly are you attempting to open it? By double-clicking on the project file? By launching Premiere and selecting the project from the list of recently opened ones? ...
Can you create a new project?

  • Want the best quality imovie/idvd project

    Hi all
Just imported a video from my Sony digital8 cam using imovie. I'm having a little troubele deciding from idvd or imovie, which is the right direction? Can someone share a good home video back up system? I'm trying to import my home videos from my Sony digital8 camcorder

+I'm having a little troubele deciding from idvd or imovie, which is the right direction?+
It depends on what you want as an end result.
iMovie is an editing program so that you can crop your movies, add titles, effects, transitions, add still photos and audio files.
iDVD is an authoring program so that you can create a burned DVD disk of your videos, photos, etc. You create your movies in iMovie and then drop the finished movie into an iDVD project to burn it to a DVD disk so that you/others can view it on a TV from a set-top DVD player. iDVD has to compress data when it is burned, so you don't want to be burning DVDs to preserve your home videos if you want to edit them later in iMovie.
If you just want to burn them to back them up and you don't want/need to do any editing, you might want to look into just using a stand-alone DVD recorder. You could connect your dig8 camcorder and record to DVD disk directly.
You can also use iDVD to create slideshows and burn them.
You should go to Apple's support site for iLife and watch the tutorial videos for both iDVD and iMovie 6:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#idvd
    http://www.apple.com/support/ilife/tutorials/idvd/index.html
    http://www.apple.com/support/ilife/tutorials/imovie/
+Can someone share a good home video back up system?+
Again, it depends on what end result you want. Some people think that they want to import all their video footage into iMovies, and save all of it on their computers. However, that requires HUGE amounts of drive space. Each of my iMovies runs from 25-60 GB. It is better to import the footage for each movie at a time, as you work on your iMovie.
A large external drive just for doing movies is a great idea. Get as large a drive as you can afford! Be sure to format it for macs first before importing anything. Keep the iMovie and iDVD apps on your main drive.
    I. Save your original raw digital 8 tapes. Data is already in digital format. Be sure to keep your camcorder so you can reimport if you want. If you really want a back up for these original tapes, you can connect your dig 8 camcorder to a miniDV camcorder and record to miniDV tapes. I did this for my VHS tapes as they were getting too old and I was concerned about further degradation. I like having a digital format of my original video VHS and Hi 8 tapes. This may not be necessary for you since all your tapes are already digital.
    2. Import videos into iMovie, doing just one movie at a time to save drive space, edit, then export the movie to miniDV tapes with a miniDV camcorder. This process gives you tape(s) of your EDITED iMovie. I use these tapes as a backup for my iMovies, since I delete my iMovies after exporting them and after I have burned my DVD of that movie. (See next).
    3. Create iDVD projects from edited iMovies, do 'save as disk image' for each one so that you have an image file of all your projects. Since disk images are self-contained, you can safely delete the original iMovie and iDVD projects without losing the ability to burn DVDs in the future. It also saves drive space. Use the disk image file for the actual burning of the DVD disk, using Disk Utility.
Now you have a set of raw original tapes, a set of edited mini DV tapes, a burned DVD and the disk image file of each project. You should copy all the disk images to another external drive as a backup.
I don't worry about backing up the DV tapes, as I can always reimport them. The tapes are small and store easily. It is recommended for longer life of the tapes that you get them out once a year and rewind them, but I have not been doing that.
Yes, you can take one of your burned DVD disks and create a disk image from it, and use it to burn more disks, but that means that your future burns depend on that disk staying in good shape until you want it. DVD disks can crack, break, melt, etc depending on who uses them. I prefer to know that my disk images are saved and backed up for when I need them.

  • Why does SAVING a project cause a delay/freeze in Premiere Pro CC?

EASY steps to re-create the issue:
    1) Enable GPU Accleration in your Project Settings.
    2) Create TWO sequences and add a bunch of clips to your timeline in EACH sequence.
    3) Apply an effect like "Warp Stabilizer" to all those clips (or, if you have like 30 short clips add it to say half of them) on each of the two sequences.
    4) Wait for the effect to finish working/stabilizing and you'll notice the render bar where the effect was added gradually turns from RED back to YELLOW for smooth playback.
    5) You can now toggle back and forth between the two sequences easily and play, edit, etc. All is well at this point...
    6) BUT!!!!...once you save the project (or if the project AUTO-SAVES) then now when you toggle back to the other sequence the render bar has returned to RED and you have to WAIT for it to turn YELLOW again which sometimes can take anywhere from a several seconds to 1/2 a minute or even more (depending on how many effects (warp stabilizers in my case) you've added). During this delay, you cannot work or even play the video on BOTH timelines. Once it switches back to YELLOW you can work like normal...until it's saved again.
NOTE#1: If you toggle OFF GPU Acceleration for the project and set it to "Software ONLY" then this issue/delay does NOT occur.
NOTE #2: Another pain is that to save the project above takes upwards of 45 seconds!!!! When I turn off GPU Accleration, saving takes only up to a few seconds. Imagine have to stop work and wait 45 seconds every time your project auto-saves!
This delay above is a real pain when I have multiple sequences with effects and after every time I save the project (or after it's auto-saved) I have to initially sit and wait 30 seconds or more sometimes when I go between sequences.
Why does simply saving a project trigger this issue/delay?
Is this a bug that I should report?
I've tested this on 2 different Mac computers (2011 iMac w/ AMD6970M (1GB VRAM) GPU as well as the supported 2012 Macbook Pro with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650M GPU w/ 1GB VRAM) with the same results.

    Booo.
Well, thanks Ann for testing and confiming the issue on a PC as well.
    Bug report submitted.
