  • Error in creating Connection Pool using Oracle Thin Driver

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a connection pool in WS 5.1 with sp #6 using Oracle Thin Driver (oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver) on a Sun box. But I am able to create the pool using weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver. I get an DBMS Driver exception when I use thin driver. I have LD library path and weblogic class path set correctly. WL shows the following exception :
    weblogic.common.ResourceException: weblogic.common.ResourceException:
    Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was:
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the

    Hi Ramu,
    Please post your connection pool setting here. You might have missed some
    port/server info. The driver is unable to connect to the db server here.

    For me, e.g. Oracle 7.3.4, the classpath should be:
    export CLASSPATH = /oracle7.3.4/jdbc/lib/classes.zip:%CLASSPATH%
    Noted that the JDBC classpath must be the first classpath element in
    the export
    statement.

  • BLOB insert behavior with thin driver using standard JDBC2.0 and ORACLE-JDBC2.0API

    We have a problem with a BLOB insert to an oracle 8.1.7 DB using Oracle 8.1.7 JDBC thin driver.We get socket read/write error after inserting 32k of data using the standard JDBC2.0 API but using the Oracle JDBC2.0API (using OracleResultSet) it goes fine. Thanks for the response.
    I understand what you are saying...
    that readers don't block writers in Oracle (the same is true in SQL Server 2000).
    However, I don't see how my test case is working correctly with Oracle (the exact same code acting as I'm thinking it should with SQL Server, but I still think it is acting incorrectly with Oracle).
    I have transaction A do this:
    update <table> set <column2>=<value> where <column1>='1'
    then I use Thread.sleep() to make that program hang around for a few minutes.
    Meanwhile I sneak off and start another program which begins transaction B. I have transaction B do this:
    select * from <table> where <column1>='1'
    and the read works immediately (no blocking... just as you have said) however, transaction A is still sleeping, it has not called commit() or rollback() yet.
    So what if transaction A were to call rollback(), the value read by transaction B would be incorrect wouldn't it ?
    Both A and B use setAutoCommit(false) to start their transactions, and then call setTransactionIsolation(Connection.TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED).
    Isn't that supposed to guarantee that a reader can only read what is committed ?
    And if a row is in "flux"... in the process of having one or more values changed, then the database cannot say what the value will be ?
    I can almost see what you are saying.
    In letting the reader have what it wants without making it wait, I suppose it could be said that Oracle is holding true to the "only let committed data be read"
    So if that's it, then what if I want the blocking ?
    I want an entire row to be locked until whoever it in the middle of updating, adding, or removing it has finished.
    Do you know if that can be done with Oracle ? And how ?
    Thanks again for helping me.

  • 8.1.6 thin driver and Netscape plug in 1.2.2

    Hi.
    I'm trying to use the latest Oracle thin driver in an applet
    using Netscapes plug-in 1.2.2.
    I am getting the error below when I call
    DriverManager.getConnection
    The error seems to be a security error.
    The code and driver works fine in a standalone application under
    JDK 1.2.
    The database I am connecting to is the same machine as the web
    server and I am not using a firewall so there should be no
    security violations. I have tried using both DNS name and IP
    address for the target machine but I always get the same error.
    Has anyone been able to use the 8.1.6 thin driver in an applet on
    Netscape?
    Thanks in advance, Sean.

    It appears that your may be turning tracing on which is in turn requiring access to properties on the local file system. Use JDK 1.2.2's policytool to add a policy for either the Codebase, or sign your applet and then by Codebase and Sign By, adding a PropertyPermission, A Target of *, and an Action of read.

    Repost in JDBC section ... very serious issue but it may be due to Oracle or
    to WL ... does it happen if you test inside WL itself?
    How many iterations does it take to blow? How long? Does changing to a
    different driver (maybe Cloudscape) have the same result?

  • Problem w/ 8.1.6 Thin Driver and Oracle 8.0.5

    I am attempting to connect to two data hosts.
    One is Oracle 8.1.6, the other is Oracle 8.0.5. The DB Admin insists the user name and passwords are the same for both.
    I am using the v8.1.6 100% Java thin driver under both JDK v1.2 and v1.3. My OS is Windows2K Professional.
    I can always connect to the 8.1.6 database but never to the 8.0.5 database under any circumstances. The error I receive when attempting to connect to the 8.0.5 database is:
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Connection refused(DESCRIPTION=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=134238208)(ERR=12505)(ERROR_STACK=(ERROR=(CODE=12505)(EMFI=4))))
    Does any one have some insights here?
    My test code fragment is as follows:
    try{
    Class.forName( "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" ).newInstance();
    String dbURL = "";
    //dbURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@host1:1521:data_source_8_1_6";
    dbURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@host2:1521:data_source_8_0_5";
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL, "test_user", "test_user");
    java.sql.Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    String sq1String = "SELECT * FROM DUAL";
    java.sql.ResultSet res = stmt.executeQuery(sq1String);
    int rows = 0;
    while(res.next()) {
    rows++;
    System.out.println("rows = " + rows);
    catch(Exception e) {
    System.out.println(e);
    null

    tnsping is working correctly. We can ping the host and it is listening on port 1521. Likewise, there are other applications inhouse using this datasource.
    Since first posting my question, I have also tried running the test program on WinNT. Same problem arises.
    Other suggestions?

    This still does not work for me. I must be missing something here. Any help would
    be appreciated.

    I made sure that we have the latest version of the classes12.zip file(8.1.7).

    I am trying to configure the Oracle 8.1.7.0 thin driver and am gettingan
    SystemException

    looks

  • Thin driver / 8i / Solaris hangs for 60 seconds

    I am having the same problem that I have also seen in these two messages:
    http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum8/HTML/002149.html http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum8/HTML/001335.html
    Using the thin driver to connect to Oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris 7, every several hundred operations or so will hang for 60 seconds. A stack trace will reveal it is hung on "socket.read()", most frequently when it is trying to close a Statement but not exclusively. After 60 seconds, or if another database operation on a different connection proceeds, it will wake up and continue until the next freeze. This problem occurs with jdk1.2.2 and jdk1.3 (Sun VMs), several different versions of the thin driver (tried classes111.zip, classes12.zip, classes102.zip, downloaded the most recent the other day), and will happen from a remote server or on localhost. A patch upgrade the other day to 8.1.6 seemed to make the problem less frequent but it persists.

  • Bug in Oracle JDBC thin driver (parameter order)

    [ I'd preferably send this to some Oracle support email but I
    can't find any on both www.oracle.com and www.technet.com. ]
    The following program illustrates bug I found in JDBC Oracle thin
    driver.
    * Synopsis:
    The parameters of prepared statement (I tested SELECT's and
    UPDATE's) are bound in the reverse order.
    If one do:
    PreparedStatement p = connection.prepareStatement(
    "SELECT field FROM table WHERE first = ? and second = ?");
    and then bind parameter 1 to "a" and parameter to "b":
    p.setString(1, "a");
    p.setString(2, "b");
    then executing p yields the same results as executing
    SELECT field FROM table WHERE first = "b" and second = "a"
    although it should be equivalent to
    SELECT field FROM table WHERE first = "a" and second = "b"
    The bug is present only in "thin" Oracle JDBC driver. Changing
    driver to "oci8" solves the problem.
    * Version and platform info:
    I detected the bug using Oracle 8.0.5 server for Linux.
    According to $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/README.doc that is
    Oracle JDBC Drivers release 8.0.5.0.0 (Production Release)
    * The program below:
    The program below illustrates the bug by creating dummy two
    column table, inserting the row into it and then selecting
    the contents using prepared statement. Those operations
    are performed on both good (oci8) and bad (thin) connections,
    the results can be compared.
    You may need to change SID, listener port and account data
    in getConnecton calls.
    Sample program output:
    $ javac ShowBug.java; java ShowBug
    Output for both connections should be the same
    --------------- thin Driver ---------------
    [ Non parametrized query: ]
    aaa
    [ The same - parametrized (should give one row): ]
    [ The same - with buggy reversed order (should give no answers):

    Hi Joe !
    I didn't get what you would like to point out. Actully, I am using same config.,
    but not to disclose the info. I gave you @test and username/password xxx/xxx.Ok. Now, assuming your pool looks like what I showed, the issue is probably
    that there are multiple Oracle driver zips around, and your standlaone program
    is using a different, newer, better one than the server. Our weblogic jar files
    include a classes12.zip Oracle thin driver, but there are multiple versions of
    classes12.zip, and the latest from oracle is better than the one we sealed into
    our packaging. Please use jave -verbose to identify exactly which Oracle sip file
    you are using in the successful case, then make sure this zip file comes before
    any weblogic stuff in your weblogic server's classpath, so we'll use the same
    driver. This should work. Edit the script you sue to start weblogic to verify
    the classpath does end up with the oracle driver ahead of all weblogic stuff.

    .MadhuriWell fine! That was easy. Your pool definition didn't have the same URL
    or
    user or password as this code. Try this for your pool definition:
    weblogic.jdbc.connectionPool.thin=\
    url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@adl-gbsdevel:1521:PROJECT,\
    driver=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver,\
    initialCapacity=10,\
    maxCapacity=10,\
    capacityIncrement=1,\
    testConnsOnReserve=true,\
    testTable=dual,\
    props=user=mkelkar;password=mkelkar
    Let me know,,,

    The key is in the log:

    The DBMS driver exception was:
    java.sql.SQLException: invalid arguments in call
    at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBError.throwSqlException(DBError.java:168)
    Now we need to simplify the problem. Please make a simple 15-line
    standalone
    Java program like you'd find with the Oracle driver's examples, with
    no
    weblogic code in the picture. Just make a JDBC connection using Oracle's
    driver, and show me that code. Then I can translate that into a pool
    definition.

  • (applet,thin driver): IE works, appletviewer not; driver location?

    Hi,
    there are a lot of questions around this topic but I couldn't find a specific answer to this:
    I programmed an applet under WinNT (connection to Oracle 8i thru thin driver) and keep the Oracle drivers in the ..\Ora8i\jdbc\lib\ place (ZIPped), classpath set correctly.
    The applet works fine in IE on my local machine, but not in the appletviewer (it can't find the driver class). Without applet-specific part it works fine using 'java ...'.
    I use the suggested 'import oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver' statement.
    2nd question: since this applet is supposed to run on a webserver (and not only my local machine...), where do I place the driver (class or whole zip-file?) and how do I tell the main class / applet where to look for it instead of Ora8i\jdbc\lib\ ?
    Thanks for any help!!

    There's a fair amount of fiddling you can do with packets sent over the network by SQL*Net, but that requires the OCI driver. The thin driver is writing out Oracle's wire protocol which isn't publicly documented.
    The OCI driver is going to be faster in general than the thin driver, and you're going to have more flexibility to optimize its network traffic.

  • Problem Thin Driver with browser

    I have an applet that used Oracle JDBC Driver (Thin) to
    connect my applet to Oracle DBMS.
    But i have two problem with this driver :
    1. If on the client side doesnt have file of Oracle JDBC
    Driver(classes111.zip) or if environment variable
    CLASSPATH on the client side doesnt set to the path of
    Oracle JDBC Driver file, my applet doesnt work.
    Error message that raised is 'No Suitable Driver'.
    However, if I read in the documentation of Oracle JDBC
    Driver, it says that Thin Driver is type 4 driver that
    doesnt require Oracle-spesific software or files on
    the client side.
    So, is a mistake on my applet or client must have Oracle
    JDBC driver (classes111.zip) and set the classpath to
    that file ?
    2. If i used Netscape browser, i have a problem with the
    security. The error said "security.couldn't connect to
    '202.154.5.29' with origin from '202.154.5.21' .
    202.154.5.29 is my database server and 202.154.5.21
    is my internet web server.
    What is that mean and what i have to do ???
    null

    try this:
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:scott/tiger:@hostname:1521:sid");
    or use system/manager as username/passward
    null

  • How to use a custom KeyManager for Oracles JCBD thin driver

    I am trying to create a java application that uses PKI for authentication. I need to be able to retrieve a certificate from the Microsoft Certificate Store MCS) and pass it along to an Oracle database (11.2). I am connecting using the jdbc:oracle:thin driver. After spending some time googlling it appears that I have to create a custom KeyManager and a custom TrustManager to accomplish this. I am not sure if this is even the correct way to approach the problem, but assuming it is; how do I force the jdbc:oracle:thin driver to use my KeyManager and TrustManager? Also, as stated above the client certificates will be stored in the MCS while the Oracle database will be using a wallet. The database could be running on just about any OS that supports Oracles database which is why I will not be setting up Oracle to use MCS.
    Thanks for the help!
