Problem Thin Driver with browser

I have an applet that used Oracle JDBC Driver (Thin) to
connect my applet to Oracle DBMS.
But i have two problem with this driver :
1. If on the client side doesnt have file of Oracle JDBC
Driver(classes111.zip) or if environment variable
CLASSPATH on the client side doesnt set to the path of
Oracle JDBC Driver file, my applet doesnt work.
Error message that raised is 'No Suitable Driver'.
However, if I read in the documentation of Oracle JDBC
Driver, it says that Thin Driver is type 4 driver that
doesnt require Oracle-spesific software or files on
the client side.
So, is a mistake on my applet or client must have Oracle
JDBC driver (classes111.zip) and set the classpath to
that file ?
2. If i used Netscape browser, i have a problem with the
security. The error said "security.couldn't connect to
'202.154.5.29' with origin from '202.154.5.21' .
202.154.5.29 is my database server and 202.154.5.21
is my internet web server.
What is that mean and what i have to do ???

Hi all, I have an issue I have been unable to figure out. In order to make my code as portable as possible I am using the JDBC thin driver to access my database. I have been able to connect to an instance of Oracle 8i on a Sun box by hardcoding the following string into getConnection() call:
conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(COMMUNITY=tcp.world)(PROTOCOL=TCP)(Host=<myhostname>)(Port=1521))(ADDRESS=(COMMUNITY=tcp.w orld)(PROTOCOL=TCP)(Host = <myhostname>)(Port = 1526)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = <mysidname>)))", <myuser>, <mypassword>);
My problem is that I cannot figure out what string to use to connect to my local instance of Oracle 8i Personal. I used the following string (the sid I got from the looking at the init.ora file):

That didn't work, so I took the only entry found in my tnsnames.ora file in as:

I am not knowing what is wrong, but that didn't work neither. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Jdbc thin driver with Oracle 9i database

Hi,
I'm having a problem with java code which previously deployed ok on an Oracle 817 database. In attempting to access data from a 9i database I get the following error:
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [ttcgcshnd-1], [0], [], [], [], [], [], []
From looking around I get the impression that the problem is with an incompatability with the driver and the 9i database. Any ideas as to whether this is true or not or suggestions on how to resolve it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

AND, i have written a small program that uses JDBC (without weblogic) to query
a table
on the Oracle (using the pool's URL in the properties for getting the Connection

"tiger");
and that program works fine.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong?? it seems that everything is in order (with
respect to CLASSPATH, PATH etc..)

Error configuring the Oracle 8.1.7 XA Thin driver with WLS 6.1 SP1

I am trying to configure the Oracle 8.1.7.0 thin driver and am getting an SystemException
when the pool tries to test the connection at server startup. It looks like the
start() method is failing. I have put Oracle's Classes12.zip, jndi.zip, and the
jta.zip on the classpath immediately after the weblogic.jar entry. Is this a
classpath issue? Can someone that has this working please help me. Thanks in

I made sure that we have the latest version of the classes12.zip file(8.1.7).
Also, moved the classes12.zip, jndi.zip, and the jta.zip file beforethe
weblogic.jar
file in the classpath. I am still getting the same error.

Using oracle thin driver with to_char gives invalid column name

select x,y,z, to_char(event_time,'YYYY-MMM-DD') from eventtable;
if i execute the above query using oracle thin driver it gives me invalid column name. It works fine if i use weblogic driver. So what could be the problem ???

Sorry , forgot to add that 'YYYY-MM-DD' or 'YYYY-Month-DD' or 'Year-MM-DD' or 'Year-Month-DD' are also allowed(please cheek also for other combinations), not 'YYYY-MMM-DD'.

How to use oracle thin driver with jsp?...pls help

Hello. I am trying to insert a word file into my Oracle 9i database using JSP. I have tomcat running as my standalone server. So far, i have been using the sun.jdbc.odbc driver to implement all my DB accesses. Recently however, i found out that in order to use Oracle specific objects such as BLOBS or BFILES, i have to use the oracle thin driver or OCI driver.
So far, i have downloaded the thin driver and put it into the tomcat shared/common folder and also put the .jar file into my classpath. Now, i am having trouble as to how to call the oracle thin driver inside my JSP code.
My previous code read as:
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Andy","user","pass");
How do i switch over to the oracle thin driver in JSP? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

I'm trying to use JDBC in a client application on a linux appliance using J2ME (CDC, Foundation Profile with optional JDBC package), but when it tries to load the Oracle driver (oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource) there is a memory fault. I know it's not a memory allocation or memory size problem, because on my desktop it only allocates 300 K, and I have more than 10 Mb free RAM in the appliance, and I changed all possible memory parameters in the JVM initialization.
At the end of the day, all I need is to connect to an Oracle 8.1.7 database from embedded Linux. Is it possible to use oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver , the driver for Oracle Lite, instead of the driver in classes12.zip? Will the client work correctly?

Oracle 8.1.6 Thin Driver with Multiple Result Sets

We're using Oracle 8.1.6 on NT using the latest driver release.
Java 1.2.2
We're experiencing problems with resultSet.next when we have multiple result sets open. What appears to be happening when you've read the last result set entry do a .next() call which should result in a false value we actually get java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence.
This seems to us that the driver is trying to go beyond the end of the result set.
We've checked JDBC standards (and examples on this site) and the code we've got is compliant. We've also found that the code produces the correct results under Oracle 7.3.4 and 8.0.4.
I can also say that there is no other activity on the db, so there are no issues such as roll back segments coming into play.
Any solutions, help, advice etc would be gratefully appreciated!

By "multiple result sets open", do you mean you are using REF Cursors, or do you have multiple statements opened, each with its own ResultSet? If you could post an example showing what the problem is, that would be very helpful.
You don't happen to have 'for update' clause in your SQL statement, do you?

Installer source location reverts to cd after selecting C drive with browse

When specifying the installer properties on the additional installer page, there is a box on lower right for specifying installer source location. For NI VISA Runtime 3.4.1, the location is set to D:\Vision 8.0.0 Acquistion Software. I use the browse option to set the location to C:\Programfiles ... but it won't save the new location. If I select another installer and then return to Runtime 3.4.1, the location is back to D:\ ... . When I build the installer, I get a popup saying it can't find the installer at D:\ . If I use the browse button to set the location to C:\ ... , the build continues successfully.

This is a known issue. There are many post out there (if you had searched) that will help you through this.
There are two ways to get around this.
Copy the entire contents of the CD to your hard drive and reinstall everything from there.
Have the CD handy and use the CD.
The reason why it does this is because is will always look for the last place it was installed from.

SSL connection with JDBC thin driver

I am attempting to connect to an instance of Oracle 10.2 using the JDBC thin driver with SSL. I want to use the encryption feature of SSL only, but I can not perform the getConnection on the DataSource without running into an exception. According the JDBC docs, the SSL encryption feature is new for the 10.2 release of the JDBC thin driver, but I have seen no working examples. I am using ojdbc14.jar on Java 5.0 using a standalone application, and it fails with an IOException (The network adapter could not establish the connection) (Error code 17002). I even enabled tracing using the ojdbc-g.jar to try to figure out what the REAL problem is, but it was not helpful at determining a root cause. I changed the driver type from "thin" to "oci" (and installed Oracle Instant client for my test machine) and the connection works just fine using the same tnsnames file, the same wallet, and the same cipher suite. From the Java perspective the only thing that changed was four characters -> "thin" became "oci". I am still using password based authentication as I understand that the authentication part of SSL is not supported in the thin driver on 10.2

I really would prefer to avoid using the OCI driver because of its dependencies on the native platform. Is there something special with how the users are created or how the JDBC API should be used? I am setting what I think to be appropriate parameters (oracle.net.wallet_location, oracle.net.cipher_suites) all to no avail. Does anyone have a working example they can provide?

1) I would suggest posting this question over in the JDBC forum. The folks over there are far more likely to be able to help you.
2) When you do post this question over there, I would strongly suggest posting some sample code/ configuration scripts so that folks can reproduce your problem on their local machines. That tends to make it far easier to debug the problem and/or to notice if you've missed a step.

Hi Vaidy,
You should download the latest Oracle 9i thin driver from Oracles website
and place it in the beginning of the classpath when you start the server. It
is use it at your own risk, AFAIK make sure you dont use any 8.1.7 or 8.1.6
driver specific calls in your application and it should work just fine. If
you dont use Oracle extensions everything should be ok.

i'm trying to get my connection pool (borrowed code - generic -
and modified, ie. not using any oracle pool methods) working with
my JSP.
i'm using jdk1.3, Oracle 8i 8.1.6 db
the thin driver is v8.1.6
JSP engine is Tomcat 3.2.1
it works fine for a few hits to my JSP, and then falls over, when
attempting to reestablish a connection or even get one from the
pool. the db metadata details seem incorrect as the maximum
number of connections allowed comes up with zero (see below).
this value is actually used to determine when the maximum has
been reached so as not to attempt to add any more connections to
the pool if it has been reached.
meta data code:
java.sql.DatabaseMetaData md = co.con.getMetaData();
m_MaxConnections = md.getMaxConnections();
where co.con, is a connection in the pool 'co' which is a
temporary object that stores the pool.
basically my question is, are there any major known issues with
the 8.1.6 thin driver with connection pooling, and more
importantly, what is the maximum number of connections allowed
through this thin driver??
