• How to display image in JFrame

i am comfortable with displaying an image in applets ,but i am not able to display image in JFrames
i used Image img=getImage(getDocumentBase(),"sample.jpg");its displaying an error cant find symbol getDocumentBase()

It is a method of Applet. If you have a question of what methods
are available in a given class, the very first thing you should do is check the API:

• Display image in JFrame

I am looking for a way to display an image in a jframe. I want to avoid wrapping it into a container..such as a JPanel, JLabel..ect. Does anyone know a way? I seen in the API there is a Graphics function drawImage but I can not get it to work, and tried using the paintIcon function from the ImageIcon class but that doesnt work either. Any one that can help I would much appreciate it. Thanks
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;

1) Use the [url http://forum.java.sun.com/help.jspa?sec=formatting]Code Formatting Tags when posting code, so the code is readable. There is also a "Preview" button as well you should be using.
2) There is no need to override paint() or update() in a Swing application. Thats old code for AWT.
I am looking for a way to display an image in a jframe. I want to avoid
wrapping it into a container..such as a JPanel, JLabel..ect.Well thats the way its done in Swing. Read the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/14painting/concepts.html]Custom Painting for more information on how painting is done in Swing and you will understand why.
There actually is a solution in the forum somewhere that allows you to specify a Border, where the Border is actually a image that get painted in the background. Don't remember the posting though. Search the forum using "background image" and you might find it.

• Displaying Image in JFrame

I was able to display an image in a JApplet by creating another class extended from JPanel.
When I try to display the same image in my JFrame based application, it fails, although the code compiles alright.
Can anyone give me a snippet of code to include in my application which can be used in conjunction with my extended JPanel?
Thanks in advance.
import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
public class ImagePanel extends JPanel {
Image image;
public ImagePanel(Image img) { image = img; }
public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
return new Dimension(image.getWidth(this), image.getHeight (this)); }
public void paint(Graphics gr) {
gr.drawImage(image, 0, 0, this);
}

you can use a Label with an ImageIcon in it and it does not involve any overriding
ex:-
This example shoews ho to conver your ImagePanel using inage labels
but with image label you will not need a seperate class called ImagePanel you can just use Labels
and also normaly you dont override paint you override paintComponent
import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class ImagePanel extends JPanel {
ImageIcon image;
public ImagePanel(Image img) {
image = new ImageIcon(img);
setLayout(new BorderLayout());
add(new JLabel(image));
public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
return new Dimension(image.getWidth(), image.getHeight ());
public void paint(Graphics gr) {
gr.drawImage(image, 0, 0, this);
}

• Displaying image on canvas as background for joystick display

i am displating my joystick on canvas sucessfully and now i want to add a background image to it for better display please guide in detail. thanks in advance .. ahsan

Hello ahsan, you can use CanvasDrawBitmap to draw ain image on the canvas.
When searching for a function on a particular control, you can right-click on the control and choose "Control help" in the context menu: in case of the canvas you'll arrive to this help page where some useful resources are grouped. You can look at Programming with Canvas Controls to get some tip on how to use the control in you applications, of simply choose Canvas Control Functions to get a list of all function that can be used on that control. In this page CanvasDrawBitmap is listed.
Additionally, if you go to Help >> Find examples... and search for canvas, you'll get a list of sample projects related to that control: "Alphablend" is one of them that shows how to draw an image on the canvas.
By using these tips you'll be able to proceed in your work without necessarily wait for some forum user to help you.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

And then simply make the JPanel the contentPane.

• How I can display images as table data?

Dear project Marvel,
I would like to display images as one of table data, but I do not know how to easily store image data into tables using htmldb and whether I can display the stored images. Does anyone knows how I can store/display images using htmldb? If I cannot do this easily then displaying image (which is stored somewhere else but) just looks like one of columns also fine to me.
Thanks in advance,
Rui

you can show those images inline in your report region if you call our "p" procedure in an image tag. so the example above has you creating a table that you then join to the wwv_flow_files view with a query like...
select htf.anchor('p?n='||f.id, f.filename) name,
f.doc_size, f.mime_type, m.upload
from my_docs m, wwv_flow_files f
where m.filename = f.name
...clicking on the links in the first column would return a page that just showed the associated image. if changed that anchor tag to an image one like so...
select '<img src="p?n=' || f.id ||'>' the_image,
f.doc_size, f.mime_type, m.upload
from my_docs m, wwv_flow_files f
where m.filename = f.name
...your images would then appear inline as opposed to on a separate page.

i'm not sure how, but i'd earlier posted an incomplete answer to rui's question. i've fixed some of the above and added this below...
just fixed the html above so it renders correctly in this forum. sorry i didn't see that earlier. also, i'm not sure where the rest of my post went, but rui had also wanted to know what the wwv_flow_files was. that's a view to the table we use to store uploaded BLOBs like images, css's, and stylesheets. since you can only identify one document table in your DAD configuration, we give you this view to allow you access to that doc table that HTML DB owns.

• Problem Displaying Images in a JFrame

I am writing a program that displays images on a JFrame window. I have been reading the other postings about this topic however I have not been able to make my code work. I am hoping there is some obvious solution that I am not noticing. Please help, I am very confused!
public class WelcomeWindow {
private JLabel label;
private ImageIcon logo;
public WelcomeWindow() {
label = new JLabel();
logo = new ImageIcon("/images/logo.gif");
label.setIcon(logo);
this.getContentPane().add(label);

Instead of a JLabel, have you tried to use a JButton containing the Icon?
Also (but I think you've done it already), you could do that :
File iconFile = new File("/images/logo.gif");
if (!iconFile.isFile()) {
System.out.println("Not a file");
That way you'll be certain that the path given is correct.
Hope this helps.

• Problem with display an image on JFrame in Java 6

I'm trying to display an image on JFrame in this way:
1.) I'm creating a variable in the class:
private Image imgSpeaker = null;2.) I'm overiting the paint method:
public void paint(Graphics g) {
super.paint(g);
g.drawImage(imgSpeaker, 330, 230, null);
}3.) In the constructor I'm using this code:
imgSpeaker = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("D:\\speaker.gif");
MediaTracker trop = new MediaTracker(this);
trop.addImage(imgSpeaker,0);
try {
trop.waitForID(0); // waiting untill downloading progress will be complite
} catch (Exception e) {
System.err.println(e);
} The Image will be displayed on form, but if I catch the window and move it (for example: down as possible)
the image is not refreshed (repainted). What I'm doing wrong? I've been used this solution in Java 5 and everything
works perfectly. Any of described methods aren't depricated... Anyone can help me?

Thanks for your code, I've been tryed to apply your solution (with create a Buffered Image), but it still not working correctly. Firstly, the image isn't loading, and secondly the basic problem is not give in. Why have you been using "bg2d.draw(img, x, y, w, h, frame);" not in the paint method?
I'm use "Free Design" layout. Below I put on completly code from Netbeans.

• Help with displaying images (gif, jpeg...) within a JFrame (or similar)

Hi all,
i'm new to the forum and i'll be granted if you kind gentlemen/women could use some advices for my gui home application.
My purpose is to display a static image in a container (i'd prefer to use javax.swing objects, but if you think that java.awt is more suitable for my app, please feel free to tell me about...). I used a modified code from one of the Java Tutorial's examples, tht actually is an applet and displays images as it is using the paint() method. I just can't realize how to set the GraphicContext in a JFrame or a JPanel to contain the image to display, without using applets. Following part of the code I use (a JButton will fire JApplet start, JApplet is another class file called Apple.java):
class DMToolz extends JFrame {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
private JPanel jContentPane = null;
private JButton jButton = null;
private JComboBox jComboBox = null;
private JMenuItem jMenuItem = null;
private JMenuBar jJMenuBar = null;
private JMenu jMenu = null;
private JMenu jMenu1 = null;
public int w=10, h=10;
public String filename;
* @throws HeadlessException
public DMToolz() throws HeadlessException {
// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
super();
initialize();
public DMToolz(String arg0) throws HeadlessException {

// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
initialize();
* This method initializes jButton
* @return javax.swing.JButton
private JButton getJButton() {
if (jButton == null) {
jButton = new JButton();
jButton.setBounds(new Rectangle(723, 505, 103, 38));
jButton.setText("UrcaMado'");

Read the Swing tutorial on "How to Use Labels" or "How to Use Icons" for working examples:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/TOC.html
By the way you should never override the paint() method. Custom painting (not required in this case) is done by overriding the paintComponent(...) method in Swing. Overriding paint() is an old AWT trick.

• Error message "This program cannot display the webpage when uploading images to Cafe Press

I have had a Café Press shop for five years and except for sometimes being slow, no problems uploading images. Now, suddenly for 3 days I get the message "This program cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
• You are not connected to the Internet.
• The website is encountering problems.
• There might be a typing error in the address.
What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.
Retype the address."
I got the messsage about half way through the uploading of an image. People suggested using "firefox" instead of IE so I now get a similar error message from Firefox. I signed in, clicked on the image I wanted to upload and hit "upload" and get message as follows:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at members.cafepress.com.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
[url=http://www.example.com]www.example.com[/url]
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
None of this makes sense because I WAS connected to the internet (obviously) or I wouldn't have been able to sign in, go to my media basket, browse for the image and click "upload" and watch as the progress bar showed percentage of upload such as 20%, etc. and even went to 100% at times before giving me the error message. Plus I couldn't make a typing error since I wasn't typing anything but uploading an image. Any suggestions?
Whatever your suggestion, I need step by step instructions as I am totally computer illiterate. I don't even know what a "proxy" is and don't know if I have a "firewall" as the message suggests. I have "Comodo" security and am using Windows XP.
I contacted CP which was no help at all. All they did was tell me to clear my cache which I do after every session. Thanks

If you think you're insane now, try maintaining those pop up menus.
As far as I know, these menus have not been updated since FW 8, so
they are at least two versions old.
Save yourself a lot of grief by avoiding those menus. There are many
other products on the market which do a much better job of creating
and maintaining this type of navigation structure.
Read this link before you climb any higher on this slippery slope:
http://apptools.com/rants/jsmenu.php
There was another blog post by the fellow who originally wrote the pop
up menu feature, but I can't seem to locate it. Even he says stay away
from them.
Not the answer you probably want, but I hope it helps, nonetheless.

• Displaying Images in EBS

Hi,
Does anybody know if it is possible to use the URL link against an invoice to display an image via UNC path (Oracle 11i)?
I know it's possible to do this using a URL link through to a browser application but wondering if it's possible to just use the network file path so that the image opens in the native appication on the users machine (windows image viewer, abode etc.)
Would this be the same method for dispaying images in iExpense too?

• Need to display image on JPanel

Hello
I am trying to implement a graphical version of the Knights Tour. I am done with the algorithm part of the problem itself. I am having problem with displaying the chess board. Although seemingly straightforward the images will not display on the JPanel. Below is a sample of what I am trying to do. Can anyone explain why the code does not work even though it seems okay. Thanks and best regards.

tst.setSize(500,500);
tst.show();
