Three(two)-tier architecture - need help

Hello,
very need your advice about implementing 3-tier architecture with .NET.
My intention was to organize the following architecture: server contains data access layer and business layer, and ODP.NET is installed on the server, client requests business layer on the server through .NET Remoting. Business layer on the server returns typed data sets;objects on the server implement interfaces, which return data sets. So, client dlls need to reference only this data sets declaration (which are vendor independent) and interfaces, and no ODP.NET is needed on the client. The problem is that when I generate data source in Visual Studio 2008, it generates also references on ODP.NET, so I cannot reference this project in client application! While I need "pure" data sets, without ODP.NET references, but, at the same time, I want to use auto-generated adapters and not write code manually!
How can I do it?

For me, I will use Web Services to achieve this. Somehow, you can use other remoting method to do that as well.

KILLING AN OLD ACCOUNT--TWO ACTUALLY. NEED HELP BA...

I have 2 old skype accounts that I want to kill. This is a real PITA not having a customer service agent to call. Need help on this, because I established a new account, but when I sign in to skype it defaults to an account I'm trying to kill. Using 8.1

If you're sending from the new account, that address is the outgoing mail address, by default. Did you try deleting the server of the old account? It could be sending mail out through that server instead of the one provided by the new ISP, which would change the outgoing mail address.
Go to Preferences > Accounts and select the new account; look near the bottom of the window where it says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" and check to be sure that is set to the server provided by your new mail provider. If it's not, you need to select the correct one from the pop-down list.

DB connection options on Three tier architecture - Please help

I have the following scenario to connect to Oracle 12c database on EPIC
1. The Client Desktop: It has a Windows 7 as OS and should Connect to database via SQL Developer, MS Access.
2. The Web Tier: It has Windows 2012 R2 with IIS 8.5 as OS and should connect to database via ADO.NET
3. The App Tier: It has RHEL 6.5 as OS with Korn shell and Pro*C executables and should connect to database via Shell Scripts / OCI etc.
4. The DB Tier: Where Oracle 12c resides on OVM/OEL
For security reasons, the network architects dont allow the Client desktop and the Web tier to establish direct connection to the database on DB tier. Therefore what options I have where the Client desktop and the Web tier can establish the connection to database via the App tier.
Any alternate approaches or suggestions are welcome.
Please advise.

Two questions I need help with

Hi all, I'm hoping someone out there may be able to help me with these questions I have.
I'm currently working on an extension which will bring python code editing to Dreamweaver and what I need to know is this:
1: How can I automatically format the users code as they type? For example, in Python if the indentation is wrong the script will not run, so every time the user enters ':' I need dreamweaver to automatically indent two spaces on the next line.
2: Next i need to know how Dreamweaver looks into third party class files and retrieves the member and function names for codehints and code completion.
I'm sorry if this is abit long winded but I have read through the api documentation and cant find anything that relates to my questions. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very greatful.

New physical server - with two DC's - need help!

My scenario is I have a small business who has two locations. The "IT" guy is set in a way that he wants to do this, and he has contracted me to help.
Site 1
192.168.1.x network
SBS 2003 server (on really old hardware) Lets call this server SBS1
Site 2
192.168.2.x network
Is a domain controller thats a global catalog. The two sites replicate. Lets call this server Server2
SIte 2 Site VPN between the two offices
The OLD IT guy took an image of the SBS server six months ago, and put it on newer hardware. But it was never implemented. Since 6 months ago, not much has changed, a few new PC's and a few new users.
The current "IT" guy wants to put the imaged SBS that is the newer hardware server into the network and decom the old SBS server.
The network can be taken down, and downtime is okay. This doesnt need to a quick drop in and go.
My concern is, if I drop in the imaged server of the SBS server that was done six months ago, its going to look and say hey, there are some accounts that I dont have, so im going to remove them from Server2.
Whats the best way going about this?
I have suggested some other routes, but the "IT" guy is insistent on doing this, and well he's paying me by the hour so im fine following his lead.
Also the "IT" guy is willing to recreate missing user accounts if that happens.

Some more information, the SBS server is not really being used as an SBS server. Exchange is not running, no sharepoint, etc.
Its basically a file server, print server, and DC.
When they did the image -this was six months ago-, they just cloned the old SBS server to new hardware. Now the IT guy wants to drop that cloned SBS server onto the network. I know i'll have to re copy all the users data files, etc.
I just need to know how AD is going to react. Is the Server 2, going to push its AD updates to the SBS server because its 6 months old? Or will the SBS say, hey im supposed to be the main DC, so update to my old information?
Are there any other huge issues that could happen? The image being six months old, is that going to cause huge issues with replication?
Should I just take a new image and put onto the server that currently has the six month old image?

One iTunes Store account, two computers, really need help!

Ok, I have just one iTunes store account however i had 2 different computers i used to download the music. my home computer was originally the one i used but then when i moved, i lost internet so my boss let me use my work computer. however after about 5 years of collecting music on that computer my boss got sick and abruptly sold the business. sadly my music went with that computer. I need to find out what to do to get my purchased music downloaded to my laptop now that i have internet. it was all under the same account just downloaded to my work computer instead of home since homes didn't have internet at the time. what can i do?! I've lost all that music! i can see on my account where i purchased it, but i can't seem to get it on my laptop now! please help!!

Creating an Acrobat Portfolio. Two Questions. Need Help??

I'm not in a work environment and I have no one to ask these questions of. I feel very foolish that I just discovered that I can make a portfolio of my work in Acrobat, but I did. I have Acrobat Pro 9.1. First question is about security. I will be sending the portfolio to people by email or on cd, to view only, and I don't want the viewer to have to deal with password issues. I don't want them to be able to print, or edit, or alter in any way. What do I need to do security-wise to the acrobat portfolio file to ensure they can only view my portfolio? Second, is saving the artwork as .jpg files the best way to create my portfolio. (Most of the originals is photoshop or illustrator) I don't want the finished portfolio size to be tooo huge...or would saving the files as .pdf's be better. The screen viewing quality seems to be the same. Thanks to anyone who can advise me.

Your way behind on your updates You need to update first to 9.1.1, then 9.1.2, then 9.1.3, anf finally to 9.2.0.
as for how to compress the sizes, if your intentions are to view on monitor, on the web create the individual PDF's then go to Optimizer and when window comes up go to section Graphic sizes, next set maximum dpi to no more than 150 . That's more than adequate. Save under a different name.
To make so no one can do anything with it, on each one creat a Layer with a 1% opacity, make it extend the ful length and width of the the pdf. Then Back to optimizer and, and choose layers, and have It to flatten the layers. This for all intents and purposes a Graphic.
As for how to combine into a Portfolo I haven't hadd experence do so. I would assume direction are in the help file. My guess is you woul click on create Portfolio and the select each PDF in order to add, or perhaps you might could even Drag and Drop. Either way is sepulation on my part. Perhaps Mike Kaslov could come in and help with that part.

Split Stereo to Two Mono Tracks - Need Help

We're having trouble with STP working with two non-stereo tracks.
We have footage that we're editing in Final Cut Pro that was captured with two separate mics providing the audio. (A wireless lav and a shotgun.) The sequence is set up with two mono tracks.
When sending the project to SoundTrack Pro, it's opened up as a pair of stereo tracks. We cannot find a way to edit just one of the tracks without it affecting both at the same time.
How can we separate the tracks so they can be tweaked individually and then sent back to Final Cut Pro?

...and when doing that, make sure when you export, you don't fall over one of the many bugs in STP:
You will probably find that the clip with the right channel selected actually plays the left channel after being exported (sound fine on the timeline - problem only on the exported file).
The solution is to
1) duplicate the stereo file and place on new track (as suggested)
2) select left channel on first clip (control/right click the file)
3) select second clip and swap the L and R channels around (Process-> swap channels)
4) select left channel on first clip (control/right click the file)

Three tier architecture using oracle dev suite 10g & oracle database 9i

I am trying to build a software which will manage the database of a hospital through usual form design .
The tools I am using for these are
(1) oracle server database 9i (2) oracle developer suite 10g (3) windows xp professional service pack 2 .
I have designed the form modules in developer suite , created the tables in the database , connected those tables to the form modules using dml statements, now data can be inserted , updates and deleted through the form design . I have also deployed the forms using "run forms through web" and thereby other computers connected to the main computer through lan can also access the software using the web port address and the name of form to be used , these computers are not having oracle developer suite or oracle database installed , but they can access the software through the browser .
In this scenario my question is that , is this a three tier architecture as oracle database is the first tier , oracle developer suite is the middle tier where I am puting all the bussiness logics and oc4j instance is used to connect the database and the dev suite , and for user interaction we have the browser as the third tier ?
or this is a two tier architecture ? if this is a two tier architecture please let me know how can I implement a three tier architecture using oracle developer suite 10g and oracle server database 9i .

You need Oracle Application Server to deploy the forms when you go live.
What you are currently using OC4J which came in the developer suite. It is used only for development purpose and can not have capacity to handle higher load.
3 tier arch
1. Thin Client :-> Browser
2 Middle tier -> Oracle Appln Server /OC4j(in ur case)
3 Database Tier -> Oracle Database

Existing two-tier enterprise online to two tier, root offline

I have went through many standalone to two tier discussions/forums, but found nothing conclusive on this topic.
I have inherited a online two tier architecture, and would like to implement some best practice work:
first step is to place the root CA offline. Based on what I have read I can do that by backing up current enterprise online root CA.
Then to install new root standalone CA on virtual box (switching to virtual) and use the onlines public key and same hostname to install the standalone. Make sure CRLs are placed on reachable network drive and so on...
The issuing CA will be the same. Nothing will change...other than adding additional later on.
Did I get this correct? Or will I have to reissue the root CA and have it be trusted on all firewalls/load ballancer, ect and reissue? Also we are pushing to two factor authentication with AD and cert based and I need to make sure I have my back-end ready.
If i go early ahead and implement user cert templates with current architecture, can I take root offline later and everything still will be in tact?

In a properly deployed PKI, the offline root CA is offline from build time. You should not be converting an enterprise root CA to a standalone root CA (how do you guarantee that the private key was not compromised prior to transition).
There is no way this would pass any form of audit (for example).
It sounds like you are early in the process, I recommend that you start over again and do it with a proper offline root CA.

Need help with new 8310

Just upgraded from earlier blackberry and have two problems I need help with!
First, in rearranging the icons my browser icon disappeared and I can't get it back even when I use the show all function. Any ideas?
Second, unlike my earlier blackberry, messages I sent from my office laptop are not appearing in my messages. What setting do I need to tweak? I like my blackberry to show all the messages sent from or received by the laptop.

My BB setting was to not hide sent messages, but the problem I think has to do with the settings on syncing with my computer. Messages I send from the blackberry show up as sent - but I want the BB to match completely with the email on my computer - show every email received and every email sent. That was how the old BB was set up. Any ideas on what else to tweak either on the desktop or the BB? Thanks for your help.

Middle tier -- WebServer and servlets
Database Server -- Oracle 8i
Our application should have data entry for several (5 - 12 ) tabs each consisting of around 15 fields . A few Jtables will also be used .
Arounf 5 to 10 validations or queries are required to be done with the database in the applet. Around 300 entries will be made by 12 different users in a day.
Is it advisable to use the above architecture ?
Is it required to use Enterprise JavaBeans ?
Will the use of servlets bring down the performance?
Overall is our architecture feasible for the requirement ?

From what you have described about your application BC4J seems to be the ideal candidate.
Is it advisable to use the above architecture ?I see not limitation with your architecture. The only thing to keep in mind is that you should use applets only if you absolutely need to. Overall development and maintenance is much easier if you are just using servlets and JSPs.

Scenario #1
Client --- Browser
Presentation Server -- Standard WebServer(Apache,OAS etc) running Servlets, JSPs talking to BC4J classes available on the local classpath
Database Server -- Any Oracle Database
Simplicity and ease of maintenance are some of the benefits of the above model. The limitation in the above scenario is that you cannot have a thin remote client(Java application or applet).
If you want a remote client then I'd recommend:
Scenario #2
Client --- Browser|Applet (if you know you have a small number of users then you can go for a client side Application too)
Presentation Server -- Standard WebServer(Apache,OAS etc) running Servlets, JSPs
Application Server -- Standard AppServer (VisiBroker|OAS|JServer) running BC4J components as EJB session beans or CORBA server objects
Database Server -- Any Oracle Database
In this scenario the servlets|JSPs will be going over IIOP to talk to the application server. On the client side, the BC4J framework ensures that the network traffic is minimized and also the client side Java application or applet is as thin as it can be.
Whether you go with scenario#1 or scenario#2 the cool thing about using BC4J is that you have to write your business logic only once and then you can deploy it in multiple platforms(local,EJB,CORBA) and access it from different clients(JSP,Servlets,Java,XML...) without modifying your business logic.
