Through itunes I synced my photos from my laptop to my ipad but now they will not open on my laptop as they have iTHMB extension

I synced my photos from my laptop onto my ipad now i cannot view them on my laptop as they have a file extension of iTHMB

My iPhone would automatically sync to Photo Stream folder on my computer, but since the latest update and recent battery replacement on my iPhone4S, it now syncs them in the ithmb format.  Prior to that they sync''d in jpg format.  I have everything set in the appropriate settings and iCloud.  I double checked the two different folders on my computer (My Photo Stream on C drive and Photo Stream in my Pictures folder), both have created ithmb.  How can I reset my phone to go back to syncing in jpg?
