Throwing extensions of SocketException

Hi,
Not sure if this is possible but...
I have two Java applications that I am developing that communicate via sockets, one will act as a server and the other as client. On the server side various processes occur including connecting to a database and returnng results by serailising objects which all works fine so far. But should something go wrong on the server side I was wondering if it is possible to send a socket exception to the client side but the socket exception would be a child class of my own making, for example; DatabaseNotFoundSocketException (if the server lost its database connection) or other similar exceptions if the objects could not be serialised etc.
So basically, is it possible to throw child classes of SocketException on the server side and pick it up on the client side, and if so how?
I was hoping that by throwing this as an exception instead of just adding as an object then it could be added to the stream at any stage on the server side and automatically caught on the client side
Thanks for the help

On the client read the response as an object, if it is an Exception, rethrow it on the client. (or even send a flag first just in case you want to return an Exception which doesn't get thrown)
So that you know the exception came from the server I hack the stack trace to add the hostname:port and the client's stack trace.
MyException: my message
at server.MyServer(class:line)
at server.MyServer(class:line)
at ~~ connected to server ~~ (server's hostname:server's port)
at client.MyClient(class:line)
at client.MyClient(class:line)
I was hoping that by throwing this as an exception instead of just adding as an object then it could be added to the stream at any stage on the server side and automatically caught on the client sideYou can do this fairly easily, but there is no direct support for it unless you are using RMI. (Which does this for you)

    Your RMI server invokes a JNI method as you mentioned. It seems your system resource is become very low as from the exception from "ZoneInfoMappi"
    (Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service...I would suggest the following
    1- remove the JNI method invocation and replace by a simple method which does nothing special ( counting etc..)
    2- Run the RMI sever and stress test it again
    If you see the RMI server is working well after 12 hours, then your native method is leaking i.e consuming the system resources ( RAM etc..)
    You should profile the running RMI server using jconsole

  • Can abstract method be overridden

    "An abstract method can be overridden by an abstract method"
    If an abstract method does not have any implementation, then what does one mean by overriding an abstract class in the subclass. Any code to show this will be of better understanding.
    Thanks..

    As yawmark demonstrated it can be use to to increase visibilty but it can also be used to reduce exception declarations.
    Example:
    abstract class A
        abstract void f() throws java.io.IOException, java.sql.SQLException;
    abstract class B extends A
        abstract void f() throws java.net.SocketException;
    }

  • Socket and ObjectOuputStream

    Hi
    I have a method
    private void createSocket() throws IOException {
    socket = new Socket(IP, port);
    os = new ObjectOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream());
    is = new ObjectInputStream(socket.getInputStream());
    and have another method what write objects using the socket
    public void writeObject(Object obj) {
    try {
    os.flush();
    os.writeObject(obj);
    os.flush();
    obj2 = is.readObject();
    } catch (UnknownHostException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    when I call twice the method writeObject, my application throws
    java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: socket write error
    What is the problem in my code?
    Gabo

    The problem is most likely on the server side. I'm guessing that the server is closing the connection before you can do the second read.

  • About Socket.isClosed or getOutputStream

    Hi !
    I'm working with a client connected with TCP on a server, using a Socket...
    The server is restarted, ... while the client is not reading or writing from/to socket.
    Is this possible after that, on client side, the Socket.isClosed() and the Socket.getOutputStream are working well (no exception throwed) but a SocketException when writing on outputstream ?
    Thanks
    Ludovic

    When you write data to the output stream, it is buffered by the OS, bundled up using the nader algorithim and sent as a packet, then the packet is rejected by the server it is sent to (or times out) then the client knows the server has disconnected. You might have sent a significant amount of data before all this happens, and there is not much you can do except.
    Read from getInputStream() and wait for an expected reply or an IOException. This will let you know of a success or failure.

  • Socket OK only for 10 minutes

    I have a client/server application in which the client sends to server a String every second. The program works well, but exactly 10 minutes past from the time client connected the server throws "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset" and stops to receive the Strings, but the client continues working normally sending the Strings and the method socket.isConnected() at client continues returning true. This problem doesnt occur when I run the programs in localhost.
    I tried do socket.setSoTimeOut(0), but the problem keeps. Somebody knows how to help me?

Somebody knows how to help me?socket.isConnected() does not tell you if the socket is connected, it simply returns true until you literally tell the socket to close. If the connection breaks somehow, socket.isConnected will continue to return true because it only tells you what you have done to the socket.
    Any attempt to write to a socket after the connection has closed on the other end (or anything that breaks the connection) should result in an IOException being thrown by the write command. When your write command throws an IOException, it means your connection is jacked...and thus your client does not "continues working normally".
    According to the API, socket.setSoTimeOut deals with the length of time the socket will block when you make a "read() call on the InputStream associated with this Socket", so I don't see how that would affect anything if you're just writing to the socket.

  • How to detect the HTML extension window close in In-design? Does the In-design throws any event on opening/closing of extensions?

    How to detect the HTML extension window close in In-design? Does the In-design throws any event on opening/closing of extensions?
    I have a HTML extension running in In-design CC 2014 version.
    I want to perform some required set of actions before my extension window is closed(by clicking on the cross button on top right corner).
    Does In-design throws any event for it? Or can we capture it using C++ plugin in some way?

    Naah.......haven't got any event for that yet.
    Although, since HTML extensions are using chromium browser,  as a workaround, u can attach listener to HTML onClose event, but it won't solve any purpose if you
    are looking to logout session or do some business login in your code.

  • IOS native extension for networkinfo throws an error

    Hello,
    I'm trying to check wether the active connection on a device is Wifi or mobile data connection. On android this works fine but on iOS there is a problem.
    A native extension exists for this see here.
    The problem is that the line below throws an error: 'Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.'
    var interfaces:Vector.<com.adobe.nativeExtensions.Networkinfo.NetworkInterface> = com.adobe.nativeExtensions.Networkinfo.NetworkInfo.networkInfo.findInterfaces();
    I'm using AIR3.1 (no idea if this works on 3.0).
    Anybody a solution?

    Ever solve this? I'm also getting errors...
    Specifically:
    ArgumentError: Error #3500: The extension context does not have a method with the name getInterfaces.

  • JCOM throwing SocketException: Connection reset by peer: socket write error

    I have an ejb which is calling a simple ActiveX component using JCOM.
    Ocassionally the ejb loses the ability to connect to the ActiveX component. Any attempt to call a method results in a java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer: socket write error.
    However the ActiveX component continues to run correctly. I can still connect to it using a vb test client. This is using com to connect, not DCOM as used by JCOM(JIntegra).
    The application server and the ActiveX component are running on the same server.
    Any suggestions as to why the JIntegra DCOM request could be failing?

  • LoadExternalModule throws error (-7 Unknown file extension) when working with source-code.

    Utility library function LoadExternalModule (admittedly marked as obsolete - but key to one of our older software)
    fails with error code (-7 Unknown file extension.)  in CVI 2012SP1 and 2013 Version 13.0.0(647) on Win7
    The suggested alternative Win32 API GetProcAddress doesn't work with source or obj files (so isn't an alternative at all)
    The Target-Settings to "Enable LoadExternalModule" are already checked.
    Any suggestions ?
    This code-snipped shows the behavior :
    // File "Main.c"
    #include <utility.h>
    int main(void)
    void (*funcPtr) (void);
    int moduleID;
    int status;
    // Library-Function-Error : -7 Unknown file extension.
    moduleID = LoadExternalModule ("Test.c");
    funcPtr = GetExternalModuleAddr (moduleID, "test_function", &status);
    (*funcPtr) ();
    return 0;
    // File "Test.c"
    void test_function(void)

    Hi,
    Thanks for teh inf regarding the LoadExternal Module,
    Using the LoadExternalmodule as you mentionned requires using a .obj file but this lead me to an issue getting a Control value from an .obj file called from a dll
    When using the LoadExternalModule function in CVI 2013, we can no longer use a .c file. Instead we have to use an .obj file.
    My issue is that' impossible for me to get a control value from an .iur managed by the .obj witchi is called by a dll.
    Otherwise it's impossible for me to get the control vale when calling the .obj from a dll.
    Any suggestions Amigos
    Thanks

  • SesConverter with extension throws coldfusion.runtime.TemplateNotFoundException

    Hello,
    i change my CF application from CF9 to CF10 and have some trouble with my SES URLs now.
    I use the (SES) Converter (http://developer.fusium.com/tools/ses.cfm) CustomTag to get Search Engine URLS. With Cold Fusion 9 both ways are working correctly if the command
    <CF_sesConverter SESrBaseName="baseHREF" SESdummyExtension=".cfm">
    is set up correctly at the application.cfm:
    http://www.domain.de/index.cfm/content/test1/test_id/11.cfm
    http://www.domain.de/index.cfm/content/test1/test_id/11
    Now with CF 10 only one way works correctly:
    http://www.domain.de/index.cfm/content/test1/test_id/11
    When we try to get the page with the extension .cfm:
    http://www.domain.de/index.cfm/content/test1/test_id/11.cfm
    we get the error "coldfusion.runtime.TemplateNotFoundException". I don't understand why CF10 check if the file exist at this point. The CustomTag CF_sesConverter is never called. Cf check first if the page exist. What I'm missing here? Is there any setting that I forget?
    Thanks for any suggestion,
    Andreas

    Hey Adam,
    Thanks for taking a look at this, so yes sorry its a HTTP request to that file and the rest of the websites files are on that file share.
    The file is static and does not get changed so no file permissions change or the like. Also the permissions are correct.
    So the file will be fine and it will work and then for whatever reason it will fail.
    In regard to if Coldfusion has problems seeing the other files when this fails, I have not tried setting something up for this yet.

    Hi all,
    Im using the sample code given sun site for JSSE with Client Authentication. The sample as such it worked with the testkeys provided in that. But it didn't workout when I tried using other certificates.
    Both client and server certificates I generated from our internal Netscape Certificate Manager.
    Function of the server :
    The server will read a private key from the given keystore and starts listening on a port. This server will server only GET request.
    Function of the client :
    The Client sends a GET request to the server and gets the response back.
    I simply changed the key store name alone in the working sample code.
    It is not working.

    The same thing.
    I have found the place where the exception throws.
    It is com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.AVA class.
    It has a constructor AVA(StringReader)
    There is a check in this constructor of different certificate extensions
    (if-else). If it sees no familiar extension it throws exception and handshake fails.
    It is not difficult to fix this problem: just ignore unknown extension.
    Everything works fine with this "improved" class (under VA 3.5).
    But the problem is - the using of this class in applets.
    How can I say the browser to use my "improved" class and not the one it downloaded with java plug-in?

  • VO Extension Error in modifying the query of XML Publisher Report Template

    Hi Friends,
    I have one requirement related to calling XML Publisher Reports Template from OAF Page.
    When clicking on the submit button the XML Publisher template is calling and displaying the data.
    Our requirement is to display some more columns in the XML Publisher Template and display the data.
    As according to OAF stndards,whenever we need to add new columns for display or SELECT purpose,
    we will do the VO Extension. So we modified the query by adding the new additional colums in the standard VO.
    I am able to retrieve the data from the SQL DEVELOPER. But when doing the VO Extension process and
    calling the template from the OAF page its throwing the following error.Please suggest me some alternatives
    to fix the issue.
