Thunderbolt did work, now doesn't

I have an iMac 27" bought in 2012 with two Thunderbolt monitors. They both worked fine. When I moved the setup to another location, one monitor works fine but the other doesn't come on at all, and the connector gets rather warm. The monitor doesn't come on or get warm at all. (I assume power on is delivered via the port as there is no on/off switch on Thunderbolts) Is this a hardware warranty issue? How do I resolve it? I have tried swapping ports etc to no avail.

Same issue here. I have a 15" MBP I just got at work the begining of last week. I left it at work hooked up to the 2 new  27" Tb Displays i also received. Came back on tuesday of this week and the MBP wouldn't wake up. Disconnected the monitors and finally got my MBP to wake up after opening and closing the lid a few times. Now when I hook up the Tb Displays only one comes on, even when in clamshell mode. I even switched the wiring for the Tb connections and still no worky. Only the first display in the Tb chain works. My periferals are detected, but no image on Tb Display. I even tried clearing the PRAM, but that didn't seem to fix anything either.
W.T.F. Apple? The items were all brand new out of the box and worked for a week. This is so annoying!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • The scsi HD did work, now it doesnt

I recently changed my main hard drive (IDE) and re installed up to 10.3.9. Now my SCSI drive doesn't work. It spins but doesnt show up in the profiler. In the profiler under SCSI all it says is 'SCSI bus' and no mention of the hard drive or the SCSI PCI card. As i said it worked perfectly up until i re installed OS X.
By the way the SCSI card is Formac one and everywhere on the internet I have found that the card is not supported by OS X, but is by OS 9 so why did it work effortly for 2 years? Any ideas!?
Very annoying because thats where i backed everything up to!

  • Switching between playlist used to work - now doesn't

    Hi guys,
Was wondering if this has something to do with the controller of the ipod shuffle.
My ipod shuffle used to work just fine in terms of shuffling, forward, ordered, etc.
Now I can't seem to switch between playlist. I can hear all of the playlist names though. but just can't play them. i can go forward between the playlist as well...just not choose it. there is no beep sound when i pressed the centre button.
    Tried restore.. not working.
You think it's the remote maybe? Maybe i switched around the playlist too much or something. Broke the centre button

I don't know if this is the exact same problem or not -- but I noticed after upgrading my shuffle to 1.1 that after holding the button to invoke the listing of playlists, some of my play lists were no longer being listed. I made sure they were on the shuffle, and I even restored my shuffle completely, etc, to try and get it to work. It refused to list them so I could not navigate to those playlists.
Then I realized something -- the shuffle was always in "shuffle" mode when I did this -- on a lark, I switched it to non-shuffle mode (first switch position), and listed playlists again, and there they were.
In fact, the playlists that were not being listed consisted solely of tracks with the "Skip when Shuffling" flag set (they were podcasts and audio books.
The 1.1 update silently (to my knowledge) made this change, which while perhaps logical is a little frustrating. To be honest however, the pre 1.1 behavior was almost as frustrating -- it would list the all playlists in either mode, but if you were in shuffle mode, and you chose a play list with tracks marked as Skip when Shuffling, the player would just jump randomly into the "All Songs" playlist.
Hope this helps and is relevant to this thread.
    Cheers,
    Ron

  • Windows laptop, once working, now doesn't. How come?

Here's a baffling one. I have an Airport extreme running a home wireless network that includes two Airport express stations as well to increase the range and provide music. Besides the mac G4 mini that adminsters the network an Ibook, a Powerbook, and my wife's HP laptop running XP are users and share a DSL internet connection attached to the base station. There is also a USB printer plugged into the Airport that they all share.
When I originally set it up I had trouble getting my wife on until I discovered the tip that you had to type in the password in hexadecimal form. When I did that it worked perfectly. For about a year. Several months ago she was no longer able to print. More recently her internet connection became erratic. Finally, she no longer had access to anything on the network, although it connects! What we get on her machine is the information that the signal is strong but the network is restricted and many services may not be authorized. The reason is that it can't get an IP address from the Airport.
Today, just on the chance that it might again be a password problem (my ascii password is only five characters long, and I understand that the Airport automatically pads it to give the longer hex address and I thought maybe coming up with a 13 character ascii password would somehow avoid a glitch) today I removed the security protection. But the results were the same so I didn't bother changing the password.
Several things have happened in the same general time frame, and I wonder if any could be playing a role. First, I replaced my old slow G4 tower with the mini, and at the same time upgraded to Tiger. On my wife's end, she had a VPN client installed so she could log on to her work system; I can't figure out if they did something in the process to interfere. Her VPN didn't work anyway when she tried it. Could they have mucked around with the IP address? By the way, I've turned off the firewalls on both computers.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thanks

It's the VPN client is my guess.
Disable or remove the VPN client and see if that
    makes a difference.

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking along those
lines but needed some reality checking before taking
that step. Unfortunately, it doesn't fix it. The
problem looks like it is that the computer won't
accept an IP address from the Airport. If I ask
Windows to repair the connection, it says it is
"renewing the IP address," but when it's done, the
address is still 192.168.0.1, rather than the
10.0.1.x series on my network. Also, it says that the
address is manually configured. Does that mean that
whoever installed the VPN adapter (a Cisco thing)
changed some settings to make the address compatible
with their network, and it's fixed and unchangeable?
I looked far and wide for a place in Windows to make
the address automatic instead of manual, but I can't
find it. Is this a hardware issue rather than
software? Does the adapter have to actually get
    physically pulled?

Well, success comes to those who persevere. I finally, out of the myriad of hard to find right-button accessed Windows menus found the culprit that manually assigned an IP address. That address was clearly meant for the VPN network but cut the computer off from the home network. At first the printer still wasn't there, so I reinstalled it using Apple's Bonjour "wizard" rather than the cumbersome and confusing Windows thing. Next thing you know, the printer dumprewd some old stuff that had been lined up, unable to print.
My wife will need to get back to her "IT" people at work and explain that the logic of accessing their network through another one with an incompatible address is not going to work.
One thing that was interesting about this is that it didn't shut down all at once. First the printer dropped out. Then the internet connection became slow and periodically dropped out. Then, finally, nothing.
You'd think there should be a way to bridge the networks.

  • Flash used to work, now doesn't

I had a few lovely pieces of flash embedded in a web page I
    work with. The website is
    http://www.usafacademyband.af.mil/.
My disclaimer is that I'm more of a content manager - that is, the
layout, style sheets, etc. are all done by someone else and I just
input the content where it belongs. For some reason, that lovely
intro image of the band fading in with text sliding across the top
just doesn't work anymore. It worked up until yesterday, and
without my changing anything, doesn't work today. You can view the
full code, which is very convoluted, but here is the snippet of
code I used to embed the flash:
    <embed width="570" height="225" quality="1" wmode="Window"
    menu="false" loop="false" play="true" scale="exactfit"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    src="https://afpims.afnews.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-070729-001.swf"></embed>
Is it maybe that the embed tag is being phased out? I heard a
    rumor that that's the case.
    Thanks,

Two obvious problems. 1) Can't contact OAD on usicesn2 (the machine that has the entire 3i suite), and the attempt to access DATEST. DATEST was the NT machine we previously were using before migrating to Solaris. How does it know about DATEST?
I've tried stopping, starting, deregistering, re-registering, putting in the hard ip address, and no joy.

How did you have discoverer 3i working on one machine (solaris). I was under the impression that in 3i Solaris can only be used as a HTTP server and for the discoverer server you need to use an NT machine.
I am using the above setup but when I start the start_locator it says it cannot bind to the preference session. I then started the locator on the NT machine and moved the locator.ior file on the solaris box. It seemed to work then. Also using everything on one NT box seems to work.
Can you please give me an idea as how use are using solaris for your locator, preference and session component.

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:

  • IPad won't open iBooks - error message that book isn't formatted correctly, iPad is fully updated and I've tried deleting and reloading iBooks - only thing that has happened between when it used to work and now doesn't is that I took the iPad to singapore

iPad used to open iBooks purchased off iTunes no problems but since I took my iPad overseas on holiday it no longer opens iBooks - they appear to download ok but when I tap to open the book I get an error message saying the book isn't formatted correctly or is in a format that iBooks doesn't recognise. I have tried
    - deleting and reloading iBooks
    - making all updates have been done
    - turning on and off airplane mode
    And still have the problems
Did ask iTunes help but so far no joy - appreciate help please

Ok, I got the 1.3/1.4 thing straight now. There was a java.exe in System32 that I now see the PATH was calling first.
And in the TextPad version of the problem, I was curious -- I don't remember setting the specification of the executable called by the Run Tool button, but I must have at some point. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and it created a default button that apparently points to what it's supposed to point to, since it now works and runs my program OK.
Still, I wonder how it can be that explicitly directing the button to C:\j2sdk1.4.0\bin\java.exe makes TextPad's Command Results Window say "NoClassDefFoundError"
I'm up and working now, but if anyone has a clue I can learn from on the TextPad issue, thanks

  • Have a 64GB flash drive that used to work and after an update, now doesn't show up in finder

I have a 64GB flash drive that worked just fine and Finder would show it when I would insert it, well it seems that after I updated my mac it now doesn't recognize or show the flash drive. I am unsure if the update did something but like I said it worked previously to update and it works on other windows based computers. So is there a way I can fix this?

    Hey Raveybaby
I would check to see if it shows up in Disk Utility. If it does, run a Repair Disk on it and also mount the flash drive as well. If it does not show up, check other ports as well.
