Time Machine - How do you not migrate computer user name?

Hello,
I am going to be selling my Mac Pro (MA970LL/A) and getting a Macbook Pro. In the past, I have used a time machine total migration.
I was thinking about doing it again but I do not want the username/computer name to transfer as well. I want this laptop to have a completely new, different name.
Is there a way to do this transfer and still give the computer a new username/computer name?
I appologize if I did not use the correct terminology.
I am refering to this:
Macintosh HD>Users>Name
also appearing in that folder is:
Machintosh HD>Users>Shared ... if that helps.

If the new name is different from the old one, then MA will migrate the old account, automatically keeping the old username.
I'm not sure we are on the same page here, so to reiterate for clarity.
You are getting a new computer.
You want to migrate your old account to the new computer but want to change the account's username.
When you get the new computer to through the setup and when you are asked to configure the intial admin account you need to use the same username of the old account (the one you will be migrating.) When MA starts the migration process it will prompt you to either Cancel or Rename the account you are migrating. You can then assign the username you would like for the migrated account. MA will take care of the process.
After migration you will need to verify the migrated account has admin status. Also configure it for auto-login. Restart the computer. The computer should startup using the migrated account. You may then delete the initial account you made in the Setup Assistant.

Open Time Machine to the date that you know the iPhoto Library is in the format you want and select and Restore it.

How do you handle change in user names if folks get married or divorced

If an application is using the apex authentication scheme, how do you handle change in user names if folks get married or divorced. The reason I ask the question is that all of apex uses v('app_user'), which is the user_name. If I have transactions done by this user and then their name changes, which means so does their id, how do I get all of their transactions, before and after the name change. Traditionally I would expect to use user_id, not sure if this feature is still available. I can always create a custom auth scheme, but that is a lot of additional work. Any ideas?

Appreciate your help and time Jari, below is my game plan, unless someone has a better idea,
I plan on doing the following to use user_id for auditing of transaction records:
1. Get the user_id to use in the tables audit trail fields
user_id := apex_util.get_user_id(v('app_user'));
OR
user_id := apex_util.get_current_user_id;
2. If a user changes their name then use
apex_util.set_last_name(p_user_id, p_new_lastname);
apex_util.set_username(p_userid, p_new_username);

Error message in time machine: "There was a problem with the user name or the password of the network

I have been unable to back up my macbook to my time capsule for some time now. I received the following error message (translated from Swedish) when trying to back up using time machine:
"The network's volume could not be placed on the desktop. There was a problem with the user name or the password for the network.
Open system preferences and go to Time Machine. Select the volume for security backup again and state the correct user name and password."
I have confirmed the network password, and also tried with resetting the password. I have not idea what else to do. Any help is much appreciated.

This is a Lion bug. compounded probably by the bugs in 7.6 and later firmware of the TC.
Rebooting the TC is disconnecting the users .. Lion is failing to unmount the TC after a backup. Reboot is forcing it to do so.
But if you download and install the non-toy version airport utility for lion.. which still has a disk page.

Install and run that exclusively, on the disk page is a simple icon, disconnect all users.. wonder why they have that icon.. well now you know. So you don't need to reboot the TC. Just press the button (icon) so to speak.

Not sure you can change a registration, but you can start here.
Also, if you erase the hard drive and reinstall OS X then she can complete all the Setup Assistant information, create her own account and password, install only the third-party applications she wants.
Backup the drive so all the stuff that's on it now is preserved in case it's needed.
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation the computer will restart. She will be presented with the Setup Assistant just as if it were new out of the box.

Hi, Christina:
Go to the control panel and then to user accounts. Select the Change Your Account Name option. Change the account name from Test to Christina.
That should do it for you.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. Migrating content from an encrypted Time Machine external disk (will not easily work)

I recently purchased an SSHD to upgrade my Mac. I preferred not to completely restore from Time Machine, but rather to install a new copy of Mavericks on the new disk and then migrate my TM content afterwards. At the end of installation, Mavericks proposed the option to migrate data from a TM backup, which I chose.
It turns out that the Migration Assistant did not recognize any disk, perhaps because it was encrypted, nor displayed any way to select the volume and unlock it by entering its password. Despite what Pondini says the Time Machine backups disk was not seen by the Mac: as workaround I had to create a fictitious user, log in, unlock the disk (that was immediately recognized by the system) and then run the Migration Assistant from there (by the way, after 4 hours I finally logged into my migrated account and found out that apps were not imported at all!)
I find all this quite not…applish! I could have preferred to unencrypt the TM disk rather than

Well a google search would appear that disk utility will show you the disk regardless if it's mounted or unmounted. you're best bet would be to unmount the disk in finder, shut down the computer completely, unplug it from a power source, and then unplug the firewire...
I think this is your safest bet but then again, I'm not that worried about ejecting my disks.
you get no error messages when you right click and eject the disk in in disk utilty? you said you have a my disk, do you mean My Book by western digital? I know that they load software onto the machine for encryption purposes. have you tried ejecting the disk from there? I uninstalled said software so I can't tell you if there is an option for that or not.

I wish I could have told my sister about this as she could not open my homepage back before my new iWeb site. She now can open my site without the yet in case denial window does appear = I thank you.
I think my iWeb site works as Noone has said otherwise from any platform etc...

I do agree that should not have to be a consideration for any users so i agree that it would be great if Apple could allow simplicity to run seemlessly.
I have had this problem since Homepage, and here is
what has worked for me. I send out the link, and
then for PC users I send the link with "<" after the address (without quotation
marks. e.g., <http://site.com>).
I also put a note that if that doesn't work, to just
copy and paste the link into a browser. With that I
have only had 1 person say they still can't open.
Everyone else gets it to work.
It's a lot to do and seems like a hassle, but you get
used to it.

you can purchase a replacement pair of grey installation DVDs for your MacBook Pro from either Apple or iFixit. If Startup Manager is only showing an OS X Installer volume, then it sounds like the Mavericks installer had a problem midway through its installation process. To fix this, you’re going to need to erase your internal disk and reïnstall your original version of OS X from the grey Mac OS X Install DVD, use Software Update to get it back to 10.6.8 (presuming that your MacBook Pro originally came with Snow Leopard), and then restore from Time Machine.

How do you know it's not backing up those things? To check documents, go in the Finder to your documents folder, then go to the Time Machine icon in your menubar and click Enter Time Machine. Scroll back through time and see if previous versions of the documents exist in the backups.
For Mail, same thing. Open the Mail app, go into Time Machine in the same way, and scroll back. Your inbox should change to reflect how it looked when it was backed up.
