Time-remapping nesting and zooms

So I've got a clip that I want to slow down and zoom Its a 1080p clip on a 720 timeline.
If i was just zooming I'd setup the keyframes and zoom out.  But you cant zoom and time-remap, and if you do the time remapping first and then nest, the zoom wont work, and if you do it the other way round you have to try to imagine what your zoom will look like with the time-remapping applied.
Is there another way?

What version?

  • Why can't Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 Time remap Audio and Video together?

In case you didn't notice, my question is WHY.  I don't know why Premiere Pro can't do this.  From what I understand at the moment, the only way to time-remap audio in any way shape or form using Adobe software is through Adobe After Effects, which my computer has absolutely no chance of running ever.  I know how to do regular stretching of audio in both Audition and Premiere Pro, but apparently I can't time-remap audio using either of these programs.
So why can't Adobe Premiere Pro time remap audio along with the video?  What's the reason that it can't?  It's a massive disappointment and would be very impressive to see accomplished in the future.  If it's possible to time remap audio and video together in After Effects, that's great and all, except for the fact that I can't use that program.  Why can't it be done in Premiere Pro and will it ever be possible in Premiere Pro?
Also, will time remapping audio become possible in Audition someday?

That sounds like a great idea.  File a Feature Request:

ha. having the video is killer. there are a couple ways to do this. i'd recommend using the blade tool (tap b twice to get the one that cuts all tracks), make a cut through the audio and the video at the points where you want it sped up, then right click the clip itself (which should be linked with audio and video) and then just set it to whatever speed you want. it'll have the same effect. you might have to adjust boundaries or you can select ripple.
alternatively, it looks like you just needed to do the same thing to the audio that you did to the video in that clip you uploaded. you can always relink things by selecting the audio and video and hitting cmnd+L.
    hope that helps.

  • Premiere-AE copy paste and time remaps

    Hi!
I'm trying to copy paste footage from Premiere CS 3.2 in to AE. Some clips contain the time-remapping effect and those clips are not turning out in the right way in AE. I just upgraded AE into 8.02 because I read somewhere that it should help, but that didn't seem to correct the issue for me. Any tips on the subject? Is the only way to get time-remapped footage from Premiere in to AE to export it out as lossles clips or is there some more workflow-friendly way to accomplish this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Good point. As a a not-so-much Premiere user except for capturing my HDV footage at home, this never has occureed to me, but I certainly can see that this may be important for other users ;-). They'll certainly get it right one of these days...

  • Keyframe irregularities with time remapping

Just thought I'd post a screen grab of keyframe issues I've been seeing in case anyone at Adobe is paying attention. I can't recreate these bugs as they seem to only happen once in awhile. In this screen grab my selected clip is  00017.MTS and it's effect conrols are open in the source side monitor. At the point of the playhead the opacity is set to 0% but it is not fully transparent, it's opacity seems to be more like 50%.
    My system:
    Adobe CC Premier Pro
    Macbook Pro mid 2012
    2.7 GHz Intel core i7
    Nividia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB
    OS X 10.8.5

The workaround is to do your time remapping keyframes and then nest it into a new sequence. Then apply the opacity keyframes to the new sequence.

  • Time remapping on stills, can't turn off?

I'm doing a montage of stills. I used the 'speed' function to set the 'duration' of the clips. Now I suddenly find that there is 'time remapping' on many of the stills (which I didn't apply - but maybe something weird happened when I set the 'duration' in the 'speed' box) ...
Some of these 'time remappings' I can simply delete in the Motion tab of the Viewer. But some will not allow themselves to be deleted. Complete mystery to me.
    Any advice?
    Ben

    Thank you guys,
I think it must have something to do with setting the 'duration' in the 'speed' function. Should never have tried to set the length\duration of the clip using the 'speed' function. I'm going back to the original stills, which don't have any time-remapping. And rebuild the sequence, avoiding the 'speed' function.
    Your suggestions much appreciated,
    Ben

  • Pixel Motion with time remap. Am I missing something?

I have a 720p 59.94 fps clip of an rc quad flying. Ive time remapped it and applied Pixel Motion but the little quad chops very badly while the background is very smooth during the slowest part of the time remap.
As a control measure, I did the same clip with only frame blending, no Pixel Motion, and the quad is smooth, however the whole scene isnt as clean as would be with Pixel Motion.
    Am I missing something?
Heres the two clips; the 1st one is frame blending, the second is frame blending/Pixel Motion. Why does the subject(quad) skip badly?

It's inherent in how the two two methods work differently - one favors large, contiguous areas, the other works better with only tiny motion differences. The problem is that when using pixel motion to the algorithm your copter doesn't move much. No motion, nothing to blend. You can always try the Timewarp effect and tweak its parameters, but short of masking the copter and combining the two you won't get a perfect result, either, most likely.

  • Audio only time remapping

Is there a way in either FCP 6.0.2 or Soundtrack Pro to do a time remap on an aiff audio file? I would like to take a piece of music and do a time remap on it to make it sound as if it was starting from zero speed and increasing to normal much like an LP might sound if the turntable was turned on and came up to 33rpm. I don't figure it would be more than a second, or a second-and-a-half of remapping.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I think After Effects is easy to use, but I've been using it for over ten years.
You add the AIFF file to the project, then add it to a comp (that's very similar in process to editing a clip into a sequence in FCP).
Then select the layer in the timeline and choose Enable Time Remapping from the layer -> time submenu (I'm guessing). The keyboard shortcut I believe is Command-Option-T. Anyway, you'll figure that out quickly enough.
Then it is just a matter of playing with keyframes and the way the keyframes Ease. Right-click on a keyframe and choose Ease In. You can also view a graph of the time remap parameter and then have a way to visualize the remapping graph.
This may all be a foreign language, but After Effects is a tool you should know anyway, like Photoshop.

  • Time remapping / slow motion extremely jumpy with nested sequence!

I have just finished the rough-cut of a ceremony when I went back to add effects-- slow motion, color correct, etc. only to find that ANY time-change is jittery-- extremely jittery, like it's skipping frames.
For trial purposes I created a new timeline with only one video clip placed multiple times. I reduced one to 50% with frame-blending, the other 50% with NO frame-blending and the final using time re-mapping with frame-blending. At 50% I don't expect fluid movement, but they are all acceptable... Until I put a different timeline in the timeline (I think it's a "nested sequence").
When speed is slowed on ANY nested sequence it is jittery. Whether it is a single nested sequence or a multi-camera sequence, it jumps.
Has anyone else had this problem?! Is this a bug? I never noticed it until this wedding. I am using CS3 and I cannot afford the time to re-edit this ceremony with 2.0.... Unless I have no choice.

    Hi Wil,
I have tried using both. Time remapping on the clip (not nested) works fine, so does 'speed change.' But both time remapping and speed change result in jumpy frames when applied to a nested sequenced clip.
I tried this on another (much lower system) and have found the same results. I am begining to think it is the footage but it seems odd that it is perfect when applied to a clip in the timeline but NOT to a timeline in the timeline (nested).
I am on vacation and do not have access to a faster machine until next late next week but for now I will try the export again to be sure Encore sees the same thing.
I am dumbfounded because I had been using 1.5, then 2.0 and now CS3 for weddings for years and have never noticed this. I have noticed it on the both the last project and now this current one.
I thought it could have been the original footage (or a camera problem except that the problems are not there until a nested sequence comes along. I will try moving the footage to my internal drive now and see what happens...
Thank you so far for giving me ideas.

  • Time remapping a nested sequence results in black/empty video

    Hey!
I have a long sequence (47 minutes), which I wish to time remap (to increase the speed at certain Keyframes). I have therefore nested the sequence into a Master Sequence, where I perform the time remapping. However I experience what appears to be a weird bug: At a certain frame the video turns black/empty and stays that way - even though the original sequence still has video material.
It doesn't help splitting the clip (nested sequence) up in smaller clips and time remap those individually - the empty frames just appear earlier in each clip.
    Export works fine
When I export the sequence as Media, the output seems fine however.
I hope, that you are able to help me or tell me, if I'm doing something wrong.
    Thanks in advance!
    Hardware info
I work on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014).

it depends on how powerful the video card is, and how many accelerated effects are being used. it might slow you down a little, or alot. if you have an intel graphics, they arent very powerful to begin with, basically just good for browsing the web. however premiere tries to use them and they cause lots of problems. im not sure if its premiere or intel thats causing the problem, but they dont play nice together.  if you have the nvidia version macbook, you might have opencl or cuda available in the renderer menu. if it was on opencl, could try cuda, or opencl if it was on cuda.

  • CS6. Need to have time remapping and warp stabilizer work together.

This should be obvious for most people. These two effects must be made to work together.
If you're shooting with a glider you're usually moving very carefully (read: slower than normal) so the footage in post would need to be sped up plus stabilized a bit.
Currently warp stabilizer and time remapping cannot be applied at the same time. But I *need* it to be applied at the same time. I need a workaround.
    Should I:
    1. shorten the clips, export them, re-import them into the project, and then apply stabilizer?
    2. apply the stabilizer, export them, re-import them into the project, and then shorten them?
How do I export individual clips as just seperate clips while Premiere? Do I have to drag them into an empty timeline one by one, apply the stabilizer/remapping, and export, remove the clip, put in the second clip, etc all one by one?
I've used Mercalli in the past and I time remap the footage and then apply Mercalli to the accelerated clip. Mercalli doesn't mind a bit.

Adobe might have written the code in a way that doesn't include the ability to deal with that extra variable. I'm assuming that when it's nested it then makes the timeline it's in just read it as a normal clip again instead of a clip with a non-supported variable included.
Although I'm totally just guessing, but if what I'm saying is correct it would mean a fix wouldn't be very much work at all. Which means in the future they could simply provide a quick and easy patch to fix this. I'd highly suggest to make a feature request.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Does Adobe read these feature requests? I often have a hard time justifying spending time to type out something when I feel like it's just being thrown into a black hole. I'm sure the team gets thousands of feature requests. It's like the lottery. Statistically you will never win. Sure, you'll never win if you don't play, but it's still a waste of time to play. I know, I'm pessimistic. Just don't have much faith in conglomerates - although Lightroom 3 is by far the most perfect program I have ever used and I would kiss the LR3 team if I could.
With Lightroom, Photoshop is hardly needed anymore unless absolutely necessary or for truly intensive chop-like edits. Premiere DESPERATELY needs a Lightroom equivalent.
I have half a mind to guess (nicely) that you video guys have absolutely no idea what you're missing out on, workflow-wise. It's life-changing. Literally.
I'm doing a video right now and I can't stop thinking about how if I had a Lightroom workflow, this video consisting of 40 clips, 40 titles, 40 transitions, audio tracks could be on the way to final export in 5 minutes. 5 MINUTES. And be 100% as good as if I had to spend an hour doing this in traditional Premiere.

Just bought Photoshop Elements 13...I'm trying to make a slideshow but can't figure out how to alter duration time that the slide is on the screen.  They presently move from one to another way too quickly...also need a different pan and zoom option.  Where are all the options I had in PS10?  Also...Can I burn this to a DVD?

The changes have brought improvements but also drawbacks compared with the old slideshow editor.
The templates are now fairly fixed but I find the “Classic Dark” gives reasonable results with some panning and you can click the audio button and browse you PC for any track. Unfortunately there are only three speed choices linked to the music track. The improvement for most people is that you can now export to your hard drive at 720p or 1080p and upload to sites like YouTube and Vimeo.

  • Using motion tracking and time remapping to smooth pans?

    Hi!
I shot some video with a cheap tripod and I'm not happy with some of the panning shots that I made. It came to my mind that it might be possible to smooth out the un-even speeds of those pans by tracking the footage and then using time remapping to make the movement smooth and constant. However, I don't know how to do the math in the right way. Has anyone tried this before? Is there maybe even tutorials on the subject?
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

I saw someone else thinking about the same solution on another forum so I decided to bump this a little bit.
The way I see it, this should be doable (unless there is something that I really dont understand).
The way it would work is this:
You have a panning shot of a stationary scene (no moving objects). You choose a track point that is visible during the pan and motion track that point. Then you look at the speed of that track point (how fast it is moving ie. from left to right) as pixels per seconds. And then you tie it to the time remapping property to make the speed (pixels per seconds) move in a constant manner.
The way I see it, there should be no black gaps when using a method like this, which kind of is why I'm interested in the consept. Because you are not moving the frame around spatially, you are simply changing the time it takes for a point to get from A to B.
    What do you guys think?

  • PPro + AE Workflow - Time remapping and indiviudal expressions, music sync.

I've done a lot of work in After Effects while working with it in school and learning the program, but have never really implemented any actual effects or expressions in an actual film. Currently, for a project I'm working on a music based video and hope to include some time remapping and individual expressions on a specific clips. Since my project is music based, and such effects as time remapping would require a lot of synchronization, what would be the best way to add these effects? I've read on a few discussions that it would be best to get the base of my editing done first in Premiere, then import/export (can't remember which) to AE and finish the effects there. This makes sense to me since all of the music would be in its final context. However, I've also read from some that it's easier to add effects to the specific clips that need it, then add them to Premiere project via dynamic link. However, this seems problematic as it would be hard to synchronize with music.
I'm sure that this isn't an uncommon task, since music videos aren't very daunting, but wondering if I'm just missing something that makes more sense. As always, any all advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • The motion on a pan and zoom over a still is at times a tad shaky.  What might I be doing wrong?

I'm currently evaluating FPC X vs Premiere Pro.  With one exception FPC X has Premiere beaten.  My test project is a slide show in which some images have pan and zoom applied.  The general formula I follow is to establish the shot at the iinitial position and scale.  Then move to the ending position and scale, and hold that for a second.  On some shots the movement wobbles during the pan.  I've no extreneous keyframes and I've redone a few slides several times with the same result.   I'd really like to use FCP X, the UI is really crisp and it's less then half the price but I can apply the same fx and they work smorothly. I hope I'm doing something wrong, any advice?   If I decide FPC X should I go the extra $50 and get Motion5? Does it work better?

If the images fill the screen, then Tom's suggestion to keyframe the crop function is clearly the easiest way to deal with it.
Otherwise, I can confirm that my earlier suggestion to change the interpolation at each keyframe from "smooth" to "linear" avoids the wobbling.
I did a small test by having a picture move horizontally, then stopping for a while at the right edge, and then move down and out of the frame. Like predicted, it moved up before it started down. Changing the interpolation to linear solved the issue.
