Time series / account dimension

Hi,
Kindly let me know what additional benefits we get if we declare a dimension as time series or accounts .
Is it in time series we can consolidate first and last, none
and in accounts - we can give 2 pass calc ,
I am not sure whether to make a dimension year in the outline as time dimension or simply leave it as normal dimension .
Any help will be appreciated.
Regards,
Sushmita

Hi,
Sandeep is right here.But this will give more straight forward idea.
The time dimension enables several accounts dimension functions, such as first and last time balances. These tags, called "time balance tags" or "properties".These tags provide instructions to Analytic Services "how to calculate the data in a dimension tagged as accounts".
To use the tags, you must have a dimension tagged as accounts and a dimension tagged as time. The first, last, average, and expense tags are available exclusively for use with accounts dimension members.
You can also use Two Pass calculation on members of account dimension if member contains formula.
Thanks & Regards,
Ram.

  • How to build dynamic time series for the time dimension

    I am planning to build dynamic time series using rule file instead of manually.Please let me know if there is any property need to assign to enable DTS property for TIME dimension.
    Edited by: 844104 on Mar 14, 2011 3:37 AM

    In the load rule in the dimension build settings you would need to go to the tab dimension definition, choose the time dimension and right click on it. Select Edit properties. If you have not done so, set the dimension to be the time dimension. Then go to the generations/levels tab and set the generation names you need. For example if you want YTD, you would set the generation name to Year, if you want QTD set it to Quarter. You would set the number to the generation number that coorisponds to the generation. The DBAG has the list of names for all of the DTS members.

  • Turn off dynamic time series for a single account

    I have a gross profit % account that is "store data." When users enter differing percents on a data form in Jan, Feb, and Mar, using any of the standard time balance properties (Fill, Flow, Balance, etc.) the amount displayed in Q1 is incorrect. Is there a way to display nothing in Q1 for this one account? I do not want to completely disable dynamic time series because it functions properly for all other accounts.
    Thanks in advance for the help.
    Ryan

    there would be a lot of questions I would want to ask to answer this properly but let me cover some of the basics.
    1) I don't believe there is a magic time balance you can attach to that account that is "empty" at Qtr and Year
    2) You could hide the qtr and year in the form (unless the form also includes other accounts that show qtr and year)
    3) what is the correct math for the quarter you would want
    4) a) Probably the right answer is to create a calc that does the right math. My guess is Qtr and Year needs to wait to add up the amounts in another couple of accounts then do the division.
    b) you create a calc that clears the qtr and year for that account as another option
    but once you figure out which calc method you want to go with you then attach the calc to the form to run on save and the user shouldn't see anything wrong.

  • Using PeriodToDate MDX function in an ASO cube (Dynamic Time Series)

    Hyperion Essbase 7.1.2
    Since ASO doesn't support Dynamic Time Series (DTS), I am trying to use the "PeriodToDate" MDX function to get MTD and YTD totals. Below is my Time dimension:
    Time (Time - Stored)
    ...I---> 2007
    ......l---> Q1-2007
    .........l---> Jan-2007
    ............l---> 2007-01-01
    ............l---> 2007-01-02
    ............l---> 2007-01-03
    .........l---> Feb-2007
    .........l---> Mar-2007
    ......l---> Q2-2007
    ......l---> Q3-2007
    ......l---> Q4-2007
    Syntax:
    PeriodsToDate ( [layer [, member ]] )
    I tried many different ways to get the right syntax but it didn't work when I set the formula on member "2007" for YTD totals or on months to get MTD. Any help would be appreciated.

    ASO does not have Dynamic Time Series at all (unless something just recently changed)
    Period to date functionality has to be managed via MDX formulas and/or alternate roll ups in your time dimension.
    Time Balancing does have to be a stored hierarchy, which is what you generally want anyway. The issue you have with Time balancing is that some times if you have an alternate roll up in your time dimension, it can cause problems with Time balancing.
    If you want to use Time balancing, I would sugest a single stored time heriarchy and use an anakytic view dimension for the period to date functionality.
    You can see a post I have on my blog that talks about this: garycris.blogspot.com
    One other thing to mention. If you wan to use built in time balance functionality, you must tag a dimension as Account Type and it will have to be a dynamic dimension.

  • How to find the year ago measure with out using time series functions

    hi all
    is there any way to find year ago sales with out using time series functions like ago
    Thanks
    Sreedhar

    Hello Madan,
    Thanks for the reply.
    It still doesn't consider the product into account.
    My columns are as below
    Prod Week End DATE Current Sales Prior Sales % Change
    A 12/4/2010 100 0
    A 12/11/2010 200 100
    A 12/18/2010 300 200
    B 12/4/2010 400 300(this value is not for prod B, i want this to b 0 aswell. But we get product A's last sale amount)
    Is there any way this can be done. I have tried evaluate,MSUM.
    I cannot build a time dimension as all I have is a view.
    Thanks,

  • Balance for open periods in a time series enabled cube

    Hi,
    We have a request to calculate balance for open periods in a time series enabled cube, I don’t there is any inbuilt function for this.
    Any ideas on how to calculate this without adding new members/formulae in the time dimension. Currently we compute this in the report
    EX:
    BOY(May) = Jun+Jul + … + Dec
    Thanks,

    You will have to add a member somewhere. Suppose you add it in scenario, then you could use sumrange for the current member range offsetting the current monthe by 1 and use null for the end month wich gives you the last month in the time dim.

  • Account dimension logic

    Hi,
    I've hit an issue with the length of my calculation exceeding 255.  I'd like to add functions to the mdx logic library, but can't seem to figure out the best way to edit the file.  I can see that there are logic files in the adminapp folder for each application, however I'm not sure how to edit and validate it.  Is there an easy way to edit the files in this folder through the BPC Administrator tool?
    Kind Regards,

    Great - thanks.  I've actually created a copy in my LegalApp and edit it through the Script Logic section and after validating I copy back into the AdminApp Folder - possibly not the best method, but it works at the moment.
    Can anyone tell me how to include a calculation in the Account Dimension that is based on another calculation?  As far as I am aware the solve_order is only for across dimensions.  How do you manage solve order within a dimension?  I have a Tuple that I want returned and I then use that account member in another account calculation.  When reviewing the results the first calculation returns the value that I expect, but it seems that at execution time the first calculations result does not exist when calculating the second calculation so I get a zero result.
    Any ideas?  At the moment I am creating a fairly large calculation that recalculates the tuple in the second calculation, but I'd like to avoid this.
    Kind Regards,
    Fiona

  • Account dimension hierarchy text nodes ACCTYPE property

    Hello,
    We have master data being populated into BPC from BW. So for the Account dimension in BPC, we use the 0GL_ACCOUNT infoobject in BW. This infoobject also has all the Financial statement version hierarchies which are being loaded to BPC. The question that I have is, how should the hierarchy text node values for ACCTYPE property be populated if I have to automate this load on a daily basis.
    For the actual GL accounts, we have the account number ranges defined. Like 1* series accounts are Assets etc..So we can easily define a rule for populating the ACCTYPE  property values. But not sure if there is any easy logic for populating the hierarchy text nodes as we dont have any pattern in them. Would we need to maintain it manually always?
    Thanks
    Gaurav

    Hello Richard,
    If there is really no logic behind them there is off course no way of automating this. Then I guess you will have to maintain each node separately.
    Some customers are also willing to change their text node structure. For example I had one when where the rules for the 0HIER_NODE records were as follows:
    *           EXP -> Starts with 32*, 311*, 312*, 321*, 3111*, 3112*,
    *                  3142*,  31111*,  31112*,  311111*
    *           INC -> Starts with TOT, 3000000000, 3100000000, 313*,
    *                  322*, 3113*, 3141*, 31113*, 311112*
    *           AST -> Starts with 1*
    *           LEQ -> Starts with 2*
    Kind regards,

  • Time-series Chart

    Warning, CR Newbie here so this may be a stupid question. I am evaluating the trial version of CR to see if it will be a good fit for an upcoming project. I've seen some related posts in the SCN, but no answers that quite fit.
    I'm looking to create a line chart (or a scatter chart) with time-series data. My dataset includes a time stamp field (yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss) and some floating-point temperature values like this:
    2014-05-01 08:00:00, 123.4, 115.1, 109.2
    2014-05-01 08:00:10, 123.6, 116.0, 109.8
    The desired outcome has the date / time along the X-axis with data points spaced proportionally in the X dimension and plotted in the Y-dimension according to the temperature. The interval between the time stamps is not always the same, so numerical scaling is required on both axes. The desired chart would show a temperature scale along the vertical axis, three trend lines for the three series of temperature data and times shown on the X axis label.
    I've played with several options in an attempt to make this work. On the data tab, it would seem I would want to select "on change of" and then my time-stamp field. However, with this selection, I can only use summary values and end up with a chart with a single data point for each series. I don't need or want any summary calculations carried out on the data, I just want to plot it so I can look at a trend over time. I can get trend lines if I select "for each record" on the data tab of the wizard, but then my X-axis is meaningless and the horizontal scaling is misleading unless the interval between my samples is constant.
    I would welcome any suggestions on how best to accomplish this with Crystal Reports.
    Thanks for reading.

    Jamie,
    Thanks for continuing to reply. I am getting close, but still no success.
    Here is the procedure I've followed and problem:
    Put chart in RF section
    Start Chart Expert
    Chart Type = Numeric Axes, subtype = Date axis line chart
    Data tab
    On change of datetime field
    Order... ascending, printed for each second
    Values avg of my data fields (must select summary when on change of is used)
    Right-click on X-axis label, select Group (X) Axis Settings
    Scales tab: base unit, major unit and minor unit can only be set to days, months or years
    I cannot set the minimum and maximum date with resolution other than day
    Right-click Chart, select Chart Options...Axes tab: show group axes set to show time scale
    No matter the setting I use, I can't find a way to adjust the resolution of the time scale lower than days.
    I tried using a formula to extract only the time portion of my datetime field. I used that as my "on change" data series, hoping maybe CR would automatically recognize I was looking at a fraction of a day if I did that. No good - now it gives me a date scale with the dates showing up as the beginning of the epoch, but I can still only get resolution of integer days.
    Thanks for your patience and persistence.

  • TODATE time series function in OBIEE 11g

    Hi,
    I have a problem with time series function. I have month level in time dimension hierarchy.
    I have used below expression to get month to date results in my reports.
    column
    expression----> TODATE(fact.measure, hierarchy.Month level);
    when i am using this column in my reports it is showing null values. The below error i am getting in view log files
    ----------------> Converted to null because it's grain is below query's grain
    Note: Here i have measures, year,qtr,month,day,shift,hour in single physical table in physical layer.
    Is it a problem to have measures and time columns in a single physical table?
    Please let me know if you have any solution.
    Thanks,
    Avinash

    Yes, it shud be a prob. Try using seperate tables for fact n timedim

  • How to set Dynamic Time Series in Planning application

    Dear All,
    I am having an issue by setting up dynamic time series (Y-T-D). I have set up at generation level 4. In our application the hierarchy of dimension Period is as follows.
    Yeartotal -> HY1 -> Q1 -> Jan, Feb, Mar
    Consider the following example
    Jan -> 100
    Feb -> 200
    Mar -> 300
    If I want to retrieve "Y-T-D Feb" the result should show me the sum of Jan & Feb in this case it should be 300. What is the syntax of retrieving YTD in smartview.
    In our application "Year" dimension name is "Year". How can I rename this dimension name if this is the requirement.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sami

    The format in Smart View would be Y-T-D(feb) more info at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/sv_user_11121102/ch17s02s02.html
    you will need to rename Year to something like Years, it depends if it is a classic or EPMA to how you rename it.
    Cheers

  • How to apply time series function on physical columns in OBIEE RPD

    Hi,
    I know a way to apply time series function(Ago and ToDate) by using existing logical columns as the source. I have set the chronological key and created time dimension. In the expressiion builder for the same Time Dimension appears at the Top so that we can use its level.
    But I couldn't apply a time series function when i have to create a logical column using physical columns. In the expression builder for the same, Time dimension does not appear in the list. Neither can i use any column from the time dimension. Please let me know a way to do it.
    Thanks.

    Time series functions are - by design and purpose - only valid for derived logical columns and not useable inside physical mappings.
    If you want / need to do it on a physical level, then abandon the time series functions and do it the old-school way with multiple LTS instances.

  • OBIEE 11g Time Series Function

    Hi All,
    I am trying to compare this year to date sales to last year to date sales and this code is not working:
    TODATE(<Measure>,<Time_Level>) For bellow syntax we are getting an error Formula syntax is invalid.
    TODATE("Fact - Sales Order Lines"."Net Ordered Amount", "Time"."Enterprise Year").
    Is the above example wrong?. Please provide one example for Time level value.
    Actually what should be the value for second parameter (Level)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    What error are u getting? make sure year hierarchy level on u r time dimension and then test it
    example: (via bmm)
    ToDate("Subject area"."Presentation table"."measure Column", "Subject area"."Time dim table name"."year dimensional hierarchy" )
    ToDate("Sample"."Fact_ICA"."Sales_Amt", "Sample"."Period"."Year" )
    <<Measure>> represents the logical measure column from which you want to derive. In this example, you would select the measure "Dollars" from your existing logical fact tables.
    <<Level>> is the time series grain you want to use. In this example, you would select "Quarter" from your time dimension.
    Refer section About the TODATE Function

  • Time series functions are not working for fragmented logical table sources?

    If i remove that fragmented logical table sources, then its working fine.
    if any body know the reason, please let me know.
    thanks and regards,
    krishna

    Hi,
    is because the time series function are not supported for the framentation content, see the content of the oracle support:
    The error occurs due to the fact the fragmented data sources are used on some Time series measures. Time series measures (i.e. AGO) are not supported on fragmented data sources.
    Confirmation is documented in the following guide - Creating and Administering the Business Model and Mapping Layer in an Oracle BI Repository > Process of Creating and Administering Dimensions
    Ago or ToDate functionality is not supported on fragmented logical table sources. For more information, refer to “About Time Series Conversion Functions” on page 197.

  • Line Time Series Chart not working

    Hi All,
    I have one Line Time Series chart where on the X Axis i have taken one date and on Y axis one Sales Figure.Now on the Measure Lables i have taken on dimension as Customer.
    So the chart will give me something like trend which customer has how much sales figures daywise.
    Now the issue is that it shows the trend for one customer correct and shows the line but if i select second customer the graph doesnt show the line just dot for the second customer.
    Any help in this regard

    Thanks Vinod for the reply.
    Second customer doesnt have data on consecutive days but there is no pattern in that.He has data on 3rd,7th,8th,10th,15th day.
    But for all these days for the second customer dots are coming but not in the case for First Customer.
