Time Series Line Chart - Monthly Sales - Make $0 or "No Sales" show up - not skipped

Post Author: kevinday17
CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
I have been messing with my chart for a while and I guess I'll just ask for help since I can't figure it out.  All I am trying to do is chart out monthly sales dollars by customer.  Simple enough...I have it working except I want to be able to see a $0 plotted on my graph when there were no sales in a month.  Currently it just skips over that month and goes to the next where there is data (month after i.e next group summary field)).  I've tried all sorts of ways of grouping.  If I use the "group by date, monthly," on the "Order Date" field, I can't chose it as the "On Change of" under Advanced chart (single arrow is greyed out).   So I ended up making a huge formula to make my own groups of months.  My GH2 is the customer (and my chart), GH3 is my Grouping for month and year, and the detail is every single sales order.  My graph points are based on summary data; sum of all the sales orders for that customer for that month.
How do I tell Crystal Reports that if there were no sales in December, then tell me 0.  Don't just ignore it.
Maybe there is an option to make the X Axis Fixed with points (month-year, in order).  It would be nice to have it uniform for every customer.  I would love to see every graph that prints out have 36 x-axis coordinates; one for every month of the last 36 months (jan-05, feb-05, mar-05......dec-07) regardless of whether or not the customer had sales or not.
Thanks so much in advance.

I have CR XI, I created a formula and used it to create the chart section
if (isnull ()) then 0 else
So if your AMNT is a null value it should put 0, else the AMNT

    2012/7/3 :
    I mean if in the chart there is only one point ,then this point will be on the vertical axis and the date of this point will be the original point even the date you selected if before this date ,
    at this situation in the original point there will show current time on obiee server, does this is a bug?
    2012/6/28:
    In the time series line , if there only one point have value and no line displaying, then the chart will show the obiee server time when the query is executed like "02:10:00 AM" it will shown on the ordinate origin .
    Can this time be remove from the chart or it is a bug?

    Hi Yang,
    Yes looks like a bug, I could not find any way to hide server time.

  • Creating a multi series line chart with different data providers

    I have 3 data providers of the same structure i.e ArrayCollection of DataElement and want to use them to create a multiseries line chart. I do not have just 1 dataProvider that can be used but 3 different data providers of the same structure that i want to use each for different series.

    </mx:ColumnChart>
    Please help!

    Sorry for the confusion. Actually I must be doing some thing wrong like using ColumnChart to display a line chart or something like that.
    I have now realized that a multi series line chart can be built by having a different data provider for each of the LineSeries object.
    So the code below would create a multi series line graph :
    [Bindable] private var orangeSales : ArrayCollection =
                    new ArrayCollection(
                        [ { sales: 101000, month: new Date( '01/01/2008' ) },

                            { sales: 475000, month: new Date( '03/01/2008' ) },
                            { sales: 425000, month: new Date( '04/01/2008' ) }
                [Bindable] private var appleSales : ArrayCollection =
                    new ArrayCollection(
                        [ { sales: 991000, month: new Date( '01/01/2008' ) },
                            { sales: 140000, month: new Date( '02/01/2008' ) },
                            { sales: 565000, month: new Date( '03/01/2008' ) },
                            { sales: 255000, month: new Date( '04/01/2008' ) }
                [Bindable] private var bananaSales : ArrayCollection =
                    new ArrayCollection(
                        [ { sales: 891000, month: new Date( '01/01/2008' ) },
                            { sales: 147560, month: new Date( '02/01/2008' ) },
                            { sales: 295000, month: new Date( '03/01/2008' ) },
                            { sales: 574000, month: new Date( '04/01/2008' ) }

    Does anyone know how to accomplish this?
    Edited by: user4635837 on Apr 19, 2011 7:22 AM

    Hello -
    It is possible to do.
    Another user in this forum has written some code snippets to assist in creating your own custom XML for charting. That reference can be found http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:30:418355095936797::NO:::
    Look this over and it should get you moving in the right direction.
    What you are trying to do isn't terribly difficult. In fact, I did it fairly easily as can be seen http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=28155:4:362637005964920:::::
    First, create a Hidden page item.
    Next, create a process that runs before regions
    That process will create the XML for your line chart and store it in the hidden page item. Use the above references for assistance in setting up the PL/SQL in the process
    Then, create your custom XML for your chart. Replace the #DATA# tag in the custom XML with your hidden page item.
    It is a bit daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it, it really isn't that bad.

  • Time Series for Chart

    I have a requirement to generate a Time Series Graph based on 3 tables:
    Time Series containing Period ID
    Costs containing Period ID and Project, Activity
    Project containing Project Data.
    The structure is:
    Period -----< Costs >------- Project
    With Period Outer Joined to Costs, so that if there are no costs for a Period the Time Series still displays.
    The problem I have is that when I select data for a specific project then the inner join causes my Periods to no longer display.
    ie.
    Required Result
    <pre>
    2008-Jan 10 Project A
    2008-Feb 20 Project A
    2008-Mar
    2008-Apr 20 Project A
    2008-Jun
    2008-Jul 10 Project A
    </pre>
    Actual Result
    <pre>
    2008-Jan 10 Project A
    2008-Feb 20 Project A
    2008-Apr 20 Project A
    2008-Jul 10 Project A
    </pre>
    I have tried to engineer the result, I've Cartesianed Project and Period together in a custom folder and done a single outer join, which results in something close to the result, however performance suffers - and if I select one of the further columns in the 'Costs' table (Activity) it then breaks, I am beginning to think that the only way to achieve this is to generate 0 cost rows for the missing periods into the Costs table.
    Unless there is a way in Discoverer to have achieve what I require?

    Hi,
    Try creating a complex folder in the EUL taking the items you need from product and cost. Then outer join this folder to the period folder. You would then select all your product and cost details from the complex folder and the timeseries from the period folder. As you are only joining 2 folders in the workbook, the outer join with a project selection should still work.

  • Business Graphics: Time Scatter, Line Chart, Column Chart

    Hi all,

    Thanks,
        Vinod V

    Hi, Rohit & Neha
       I think, my question is not clear..
    My requirements are on Business Graphics (Not in IWDTable), where i need to represent my data in different columns (Levels). Each level will be Represented in different colors.
    Eg: Top level of my Graph will have RED,
          Middle by YELLOW and
          Bottom part would be with GREEN.
    My Second Question is on using Multiple Graph types in same graph...
    Where data will be represented in Column/Bar Chart and in the same graph i need a curve to display the max value pointed by Column Chart..

  • Line chart with one entry in xml doesn't show up

    please refer
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDo cs_Parts&file=00001233.html
    If I use only one entry in expenses array even then the line
    chart is not shown. below is what I'm using:
    [Bindable]
    public var expenses:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([
    /*{Month: "Jan", Profit: 2000, Expenses: 1500, Amount: 450},
    {Month: "Feb", Profit: 1000, Expenses: 200, Amount: 600},*/
    {Month: "Mar", Profit: 1500, Expenses: 500, Amount: 300}
    Looks like it is a general issue or flex limitations.
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDo cs_Parts&file=00001233.html

    Not sure it is a limitation.
    A line needs two points, e.g. a start(x,y) and a finish
    (x,y). So adding a single point will not give you a line.
    If you want to display just points, then use a PlotChart.

  • Time-Series in charts

    Hello everyone,
    Being new to flash/flex/actionscript, I have a hard time
    doing what I would like to do and hope to get some help from you.
    I'd like to generate a <mx:ColumnChart/> where the
    x-axis is a <mx:DateTimeAxis/> and would display only data
    points that are only within X minutes to the past (for example,
    only display data points for the last 15 minutes). The chart
    dataProvider get updated every 30 seconds or so through a
    HttpService.
    I could not seem to find a flavor of DateTimeAxis or
    Timebased data collection that would automatically eliminate data
    points that are older than X minutes.
    To achieve this, I currently have to set a timer in the
    application, which on every tick will trigger invocation of a
    function that would traverse the dataProvider and manually
    eleminate that data points that has xField value (the time value)
    older than 15 minutes and trigger the chart re-rendering.
    Please help advise me a any other cleaner way to perform what
    I would like to do.

    thanks, and checking for aged iterms (items older than x
    minutes) at the time I add new items to the chart is actually what
    I ended up doing.

  • What is the best way to create a SSRS 2005 Line Chart Report for a 12 month period?

    I'm looking for advice on how to create a SQL Server 2005 query and line chart report for SSRS 2005.
    I need to display the peak number of patients assigned to a medical practice each month for a 12 month period based on the end-user selecting a
    single month and year.
    I've previously created a report that displays all patients assigned to the practice for any single month but I’m looking for advice on how to
    how to produce a resultset that shows the peak number of patients each month for a 12 month period. I thought about creating a query that returns the peak count for each month (based on my previously created report which displays all patients assigned to the
    practice for any single month) and then use a UNION statement to join all 12 months but I'm sure that isn't the most efficient way to do this. The other challenge with this approach (twelve resultsets combined via a UNION) is that the end-user needs to be
    able to select any month and year for the parameter and the report needs to display the 12 month period based on the month selected (the month selected would be the last month of the 12 month period).
    For the report I’ve previously created that displays all patients assigned to the practice for any single month, the WHERE statement filters the
    resultset on two fields:
    Start Date - The date the patient was assigned to the practice. This field is never null or blank.
    End Date - The date the patient left the practice. This field can be null or blank as active patients assigned to the practice do not have an End Date. When the patient
    leaves the practice, the date the patient left is populated in this field.
    Using these two fields I can return all patients assigned to the practice during Nov 2012 by looking for patients that meet the following criteria:
    start date prior to 11/30/2012 (using the last day of the month selected ensures patients added mid-month would be included)
    AND
    end date is null or blank (indicates the patient is active) OR the end date is between 11/1/2012 -11/30/2012 (returns patients that leave during the month
    selected)
    Regarding the query I need to create for the report that displays the peak count each month for 12 months, I'm looking for advice on
    how to count patients for each month the patient is assigned to the practice if the patient has been assigned for several months (which applies to most patients). Examples are:
    John Doe has a start date of 6/01/2012 and an End Date of 10/07/2012
    Sally Doe has a start date of 8/4/2012 and no End Date (the patient is still active)
    Jimmy Doe has a  start of 7/3/2012 and an End Date of 9/2/2012
    Given these examples how would I include John Doe in the peak monthly count each month for May - October, Sally Doe in the peak monthly count for
    August - December and Jimmy Doe in the peak monthly count for July – Sept if the end-user running the report selected December 2012 as the parameter?
    Given the example above and the fact I'm creating a line chart I think the best way to create this report would be a resultset that looks like
    this:
    Patient Name
    Months Assigned
    John Doe
    June 2012
    John Doe
    July012
    John Doe
    Aug 2012
    John Doe
    Sept 2012
    John Doe
    Oct 2012
    Sally Doe
    Aug 2012
    Sally Doe
    Sept 2012
    Sally Doe
    Oct 2012
    Sally Doe
    Nov 2012
    Sally Doe
    Dec 2012
    Jimmy Doe
    July 2012
    Jimmy Doe
    Aug 2012
    Jimmy Doe
    Sept 2012
    From the resultset above I could create another resultset that would count\group on month and year to return the peak count for each month:
    June 2012 - 1
    July 2012 – 2
    Aug 2012 - 3
    Sept 2012 - 3
    Oct 2012 - 2
    Nov 2012 - 1
    Dec 2012 - 1
    The resultset that displays the peak count for each month would be used to create the line chart (month would be the X axis and the count would
    be the y axis).
    Does this sound like the best approach?
    If so, any advice on how to create the resultset that lists each patient and each month they were assigned to the practice would be greatly appreciated.
    I do not have permissions to create SPs or Functions within the database but I can create temp tables.
    I know how to create the peak monthly count query (derived from the query that lists each patient and month assigned) as well as the line chart.
    Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the replies. I reviewed them shortly after they were submitted but I'm also working on other projects at the same time (hence the delayed reply).
    Building a time table and doing a cross join to my original resultset gave me the desired resultset of the months assigned between dates. What I can't figure out now is how to filter months I don't want.
    Doing a cross  join between my original resultset that had two dates:
    08/27/2010
    10/24/2011
    and a calendar table that has 24 rows (each month for a two year period)
    my new resultset looks like this:
    I need to filter the rows in yellow as the months assigned for stage 3 that started on 8/27/2010 should stop when the patient was assigned to stage 4 on 10/24/2011.
    You'll notice that Jan - Sept 2011 isn't listed for Stage 4 assigned on 10/24/2011 as I included a filter in the WHERE clause that states
    the Months Assigned value must be greater than or equal to the date assigned value.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Line Chart cannot drill down on legends and lines

    I am doing a drill down Group report which will show the Sum of Last year's Sales By Country, State and city over a period of time(by date) for throughout the year 2007. Every group will have a line chart with Data title as Sum of Last year's Sales ($), Group Title as Date and legends displaying countries (or states or cities) as USA,UK,Australia. etc.. I have same sort of line chart for State and City as well. So, I got 3 levels of groups with a line-chart displayed in every group level.
    Now, the problem is my drill down would not work on chart lines or legends as it would do for a 2-dimensional data chart like a bar-chart or pie-chart. In the Chart Expert->Data->Layout:Group ->in the On Change Of event selection I am able to specify either Sales.Country (or) Sales.country and Sales.Sales.State. Both options would not let me get the correct linechart with correct data and drill-down working as well.
    The only work-around i got is to display the line chart with legends and showing the Country(or State or City) names in a field in the Group Footer. The drilling will work on those fields, but not on the legends or lines of the line chart. This make my report showing the Country names twice once on legend (with no drill-down) and once on group-footer(with drilling ability to groups below) which is untidy.
    Have anyone tried to make a drill-down crystal report on a 3-dimensional data like this? The World Sales report in Crystal reports C:\Program...\BO\Samples\General Business\World Sales Report is the best example of how i would like to see my charts to drill down. However, they drill down across a 2-dimensional data. I am publishing this Crystal Reports in Business Objects Infoview.

    Please re-post if this is still an issue

    Wow. That post almost made my eyes bleed. You may want to add some white space for readability.
    Anyways - as Falk said. You should move or re-post this in the [Crystal Reports Design|SAP Crystal Reports; forum. They specialize in this sort of thing. Us dev guys here make sure we can see the chart without errors and don't do much beyond that.

  • Unable to create a Line chart

    Hi Friends,
    I am trying to create a Line Chart based on CalMonth, where I want to show no. of SalesOrg denoted by different lines separately according to their monthly sales.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Jatin

    Hi,
    To create chart this is the process..
        1.      Before you begin publishing a chart, you need to specify which chart type ( Line chart in your case ) you want to display. You can determine how the data provider is to be built by using the class of the chart type.
           2.      Select an existing query or design a new query with which you can generate a suitable view of the data, that is, a suitable data provider.
           3.      Start the publishing process and create a new Web item of type Chart.
           4.      We recommend configuring the properties of the chart Web item as follows:
    &#9675;       Expanded hierarchy nodes should be hidden.
    &#9675;       Totals should be suppressed.
    &#9675;        If you want to swap the data providers in the chart, you should assign the Swap Display Axes property to the chart. The columns and rows are then swapped automatically when the chart is generated. You do not need to change the view on which the chart is based.
           5.      When you edit the chart, the Web Application Designer or Web Application Wizard first shows the default setting, that is, a column chart.
    &#9675;       Firstly, format the chart using the wizard so that the most important settings and the number of displayed data series and data points correspond to your data provider (see also Formatting a Chart Using the Wizard). Assign the required chart type to the chart and format the chart as required.
    &#9675;       All chart elements that you can format are displayed in the list of properties on the right of the screen. You can modify the properties as required here.

  • JavaFX, Display Line Chart with additional text

    Hello:
    I am new to Java and JavaFX. I have been able to create a line chart that has four series using example code from the Oracle Javafx Documentation home. Below is the syntax used to create the line chart once the series info has been populated:
    Scene scene = new Scene(lineChart,800,600);
    lineChart.getData().addAll(series1, series2, series3, series4);
    When I display the chart, I would also like to display additional text.
    My chart measures four different averages by month. I would like to use the text to give more info about each series (ex: 6 month and 1 year total avg for each series). The Line Chart and the text that I want to add do not need to be related. I will calculate the 6 & 12 month avg and list it in the text separately.
    I am struggling to find a way to display the line chart with a separate text field. If anyone can point me to some sample code that does something similar I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Troy

    Hi,
    My data points in my line chart are an average for a single month for each series.
    Ideally I would like a table as shown below centered under the Line Chart if possible (I was unable to use underscores or spaces to build the example. The + signs would really just be a line and the ' are used for spaces):
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++``````````````++``Series 1```++```Series 2```++``Series 3```++``Series 4``++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++6 Month Avg````++```5.6`````++``````7.8 ```++ ````4.8`````++`````8.4``++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    ++12 Month Avg```++```6.9`````++``````9.3 ```++ ````2.5`````++```5.7````++
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
