Timeline and display

Hi all,
I am wondering if someone can help. In Flash 8 and earlier, I
would load data from a server-side script and then as the user made
actions, either use goToAndPlay()/goToAndStop() actions to move
along as necessary or else make a movie clip visible/invisible. In
AS 3.0, how do you do it? Do you still make various frames that
have things and via Actionscript do goToAndPlay/goToAndStop? Or is
there a better way now?
Also, I used to copy existing movie clips when I needed them
but it seems like that is not the way now. How I can make one movie
clip that I will reuse with various data in them? Can I create new
instances of a library item on the fly in AS 3.0?
Thanks for any help! Just wondering the change and how it is
done in AS 3.0 vs. AS 2.0 ...

as3 is significantly different from as2 and this is not the
appropriate place for a tutorial on as3. check some of the
tutorials at senocular.com and some of the gskinner blogs and the
flash help files to get started with as3.
to load data, check the urlloader class.
the goto methods still exist.
you can still instantiate library items in as3. you now
assign movieclips to classes and use the "new" constructor to
dynamically instantiate movieclips, for example.

  • Timeline - Cannot Move Tracks and Display Problem

I've created about a ten-minute timeline that I'd really prefer not to toss out because a lot of work went into creating parts of it and getting the timing right with the music, etc. When I first open the project in Premiere Elements, everything seems okay - my timeline plays with all transitions and I can scroll around in the timeline. However, I appear to have done something where whenever I click and drag to try to move a track, the timeline goes insane. I get a circle with a line through it for a cursor and a blank tooltip window, whether I try to drag the track horizontally or vertically. After that, while the timeline will still play, the timeline itself gets all wonky in its display, almost as if the video isn't refreshing on it. (It's kind of like the timeline has crashed.) I attached a screenshot of what it looks like. Whenever I move my cursor to the edge of the timeline, the timeline scrolls in that direction.
I'm running Premiere Elements 7 Educational Version on  a Core 2 Duo laptop with 3GB RAM, an Intel 965 graphics chip (latest Intel drivers are installed), and Vista Business 32-bit. The clips are from a standard DV cam (not HD), and there are some PNG format stills and MP3 sounds mixed in there as well. There are three active A/V tracks. I think that's all the relevant information, but ask me if you need more.
Can anyone tell me what I've done and/or how to fix this?

    Good morning every one!
The bad news: As expected the problem does still occur. The good news: I was able to track it down to one clip in the timeline.
To save others time, I will described what I have evaluated quite detailed in the following paragraphs...
As it seemed to me that deactivating the Windows indexing service made the usage of PrE more stable I thought that maybe file locks would cause the trouble. So I verified this by opening the project in PrE, writing and executing a small Java application that puts an exclusive file lock on one of the files from the project and tried to move the according clip in the timeline. It worked without any problems and the known symptoms did not occur. So we can put aside the file locks.
Afterwards I tried to reproduce the problem by playing around with the scene that caused problems last week. I tried by moving around the video clips and the problem did not occur. Then I remembered my statement I have made earlier, that the problems seemed to occur as I started to work with titles and music clips -- and bingo: I have three music clips in my "soundtrack" track and one of them seems to cause the whole trouble. After I have clicked on this specific music clip, the problem occurs and it is no longer possible to move anything in the timeline and the strange behaviour regarding the automatic scrolling when the cursor is at the left/right etch is activated.
It was easily reproducable: Restart PrE, open my project, move a video clip to verify that moving clips works, click on the specific music clip and the problem occurs. I have tried this several times and each time the problem occured. When I clicked on one of my other two music clips everything was fine -- same for the video clips I tried. So in my case it seems to be this single clip.
OK, what's specific regarding this clip: All my music files are placed on a share on my Windows home server (in contrast to the video footage which is located on the local HD). So I moved the "dangerous" music file to the local HD, changed the path to the file with a text editor directly in the PrE project file (which is a simple XML file) and started up PrE again. I verified that PrE takes the file from the local HD (server was down), but the problem did still occur. So it is not a network issue.
The next specific thing is, that this music file is the only file in my project which is a .wma-file -- the others are .mp3-files. So I did three things:
At first I downloaded the project file provided by SQFreak2 in this thread and checked whether he is also using .wma-files. The result: He does not use them.
As the second thing I again changed my project file in the text editor: I changed the path of the music clip to some other .mp3-file. Afterwards I opened up PrE with that project file, used the playback to verify that the other music file is referenced by the clip instead of the original wma-file and then tried to move the clip -- again the symptoms occured.
As the last step I created a new project, added the "problematic" wma-file, placed it on the "soundtrack" track and afterwards tried to move it. The result: No problems at all.
So it neither seems to be a generic problem with wma-files nor does it seem to be a file-specific problem at all.
Lets summarize the things from above: File locks do not cause any trouble. In my project a single audio clip seems to cause the problem. The problem seems to be caused by the clip and not the file referenced by the clip (no matter whether local or server based, wma or mp3, the problem occurs in every case).
What I have learned? Well, I am not sure. But in the meanwhile I am quite sure, that it hasn't to do anything with hardware and drivers, but that we are dealing with a bug in PrE that occurs in specific project cirumstances.
This morning I have got some additional ideas I would like to try to track the problem down (e.g. the problematic clip has a transition for a fade out in the end [when I did this I didn't knew, that a fade out could be easily achieved in the clip's properties] -- I will try to remove this one and look what will happen).
P.S.: In one of my earlier posts I stated the assumption that the problem occurs as soon as I move the mouse cursor over the vertical scroll bar of the timeline -- but this is definitely not the case.

  • Display metadata instead of clip name on the clips in the timeline and in the source monitor

Is there a way to display metadata instead of clip name on the clips in the timeline and in the source monitor? Clip names are usually set by the camera and are of no use to me. What i would like the clip and the source monitor to display is the name of the shot from the metadata. That's,in my opinion, a very useful info when you're editing a film.  If that feature doesn't exist, is there a way to batch rename clips based on metadata?

    thanks
is that new or was that always there. Not to sure if I have tried that in the past
anyway it helped and will makes things much faster
one other question maybe you have an answer to that too. it seems both Audio tracks are independ when putting on keyframes is there a way when using keyframes in the time line that it affect both channels of audio for example a1 an a2
once again thanks for your help

  • I can not open timeline and the canvas can not display because out of memory.

I can not open timeline and the canvas can not diplay. I get a pop up saying "error out of memory" what does it mean and what can I do?

Usually this is because you've got graphics that are cmyk or grayscale not RGB, or that are larger than 4000 by 4000 pixels.   Move them on your hard disk so fcp can't find them and make them rgb and resize to an acceptable pixel dimension.

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

  • The timeline  and cursor move very jerky (in a continual chattery motion) in Windows 8.1

in my project the timeline and/or the cursor move very jerky (in a continual chattery motion )  in windows 8.1
i have set the Windows Software Compatibility setting for their "Window 7 emulator"  and the condition still persists.
also the "fullscreen playback"  for the project used to  be very fine resolution and now it is very mushy...
all  this tells me there are real problem with my Premier Element 10

You are running Premiere Elements 10 on Windows 8.1 64 bit. The program works just fine in Windows 8.1 64 bit when run Windows 8.1.
So do not go altering to another operating system. I know this first hand.
The immediate factor that needs ruling in or out is your video card/graphics card. Specifically "Does your Windows 8.1 64 bit use
a NVIDIA GeForce card? If so, that may be your answer. See Announcement at the top of this forum which describe the Premiere
Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce problem and gives the fix of how to roll back the card's driver version to get Premiere Elements 10
    to work for you.
Once we are assured that you are not afflicted by Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce syndrome and also know that your current
video card/graphics card driver is up to date, then we can move on to seek other factors that may be causing the problem.
For your convenience, the following is a copy/paste of the Announcement about the issue as it appears at the top of this forum.
All the links and how tos that you will need are in this announcement.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing
Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling
back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches
specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then
the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The
typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA
nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the driver roll back can be found

Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on any of this information.
We will be watching for your reply.
    Thank you.

  • Reading and displaying 100mb file

    hi everyone
i want to read a uploaded file that may be of 100mb
the problem is that i want to dispaly that file in a textarea which doesn't support characters more than 65000.
i had a solution that is to read a file in chunks and displaying it one by one using paging
can anyone help me with the code
    urgently required
    thanks!!

    Source - http://agards-bible-timeline.com/q10_bible-facts.html .
The bible has 3,566,480 characters. This means, allowing for punctuation and white space and assuming 1 character per byte, you are trying to display about 25 Bibles.
The Bible can be read aloud in about 70 hours so it would take your users about 70 days continuous to read your file!
    P.S I am being serious.

  • Timeline not displaying

    Hi,
I'm using captive 2, very new to it. I did 1 project as a
tester and it worked fine, but then at some point the timeline
seemed to disappear. Even though it's been enabled (under view,
clicked on show timeline), it is not appearing. When I'm in the
edit tab, I can see the arrow to expand or compress the timeline
but clicking on that arrow just toggles the timeline arrow from up
to down. It does not show the contents of the timeline, which is
    what I want.
    Any thoughts?
It worked fine for a few days (1 project) then stopped. I
uninstalled and reinstalled Captivate 2 but same issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi alta_girl
After you click the tiny arrow to show the Timeline header,
try clicking the Timeline header itself. If that fails to produce
the timeline, I suppose it's possible that you have adjusted the
split between the Timeline and the Editing area so the Timeline
can't really display. One way to fix this is as follows:
Click the splitter bar and drag straight down to increase the
split between Timeline and Editor area.
    Click
here to see an image depicting this

  • Disappearing timeline and canvas??

I have a project that each time I open it only the browser and viewer show. The timeline and canvas are greyed out in the Window drop down menu and when I try "arrange standard", they still don't show up. If I open a brand new project all four screens are where they are supposed to be?

Double click on a sequence in your Browser and the Canvas and Timeline should appear. Those windows display the current sequence; if no sequence is open, there's nothing for them to display.

  • DISAPPEARANCE OF 3/4 OF A TIMELINE AND ITS SEQUENCE

I made a routine export to QuickTime of my 49 min. video, due for a screening to he committee in six hours, and I was shocked to see that only 1/4th of my timeline and sequence was there! The missing material was not in the sequence, the timeline, nor it the exported Quicktime, done twice. Two scattered images remain from about 35 min. into the program, on upper layers, just a few seconds of material. My newest AutoSave file was also just like this, but yesterday's file is okay. Of course, I did a ton of detailed work since then, which is just gone. I am devastated, as I must present this, for the first time, to the group. That mostly blank timeline is a real scare. Could someone please help me??!! Must I go back to the past and redo all that work?? At one point, it said 112 files are offline, and then it did not say that again, only 5, and they aren't even in the project anyway; I checked this out. Is this project corrupt? I repaired permissions right away, and that had no effect.

its pretty hard to say what has happened here ...
my gut instinct is some user error. I appreciate its something we don't like to hear but what can I say? Its easier than you might think to inadvertently delete things and not even notice .... for example you may have previously selected something in the timeline then scrolled it out of sight, then later when you thought you were deleting a browser clip, or filter in the viewer, in fact the timeline was active and you deleted a clip you couldn't even see ... stanger things have happened. sad but true.
My newest AutoSave file was also just like this, but yesterday's file is okay. Of course, I did a ton of detailed work since then, which is just gone. I am devastated ...
we learn by our mistakes. what setting do you have your AutoSave set to? you should set it to he maximum amount that you feel you can aford to lose. personally, i don't like to lose more than 5 or 10 minutes of work.
Must I go back to the past and redo all that work??
if you don't have a backup or autosave vrsion then I'm afraid you must.
i'm truly sorry, beleive me ... been there, done that
    good luck

  • Lost my timeline and canvas

    Listeroos
Working on my first project with FCE, I had a file in the Bin called "Sequence 1" that showed a duration of 00 and zeros across the board, so I figured that I had hit a wrong key combination and created a spurious file. I cleared it
Immediately, my Canvas and Timeline disappeared, and they are greyed out in the Windows menu.
How do I get them back? Restore to before the last 4 hours of capture? <sigh>
    Dave tinker

The basic principle is you have to have at least one sequence open for the timeline and canvas to display - otherwise, there is no reason for them to hang around and they wander off for a well deserved break.
If you close a project's only open sequence, the icon for it will still be in the Browser. Double clic on it and all should return. the only time you loose edits is when you close FCP and do not save changes. As long as FCP remains open, you should be good to go.
Also, this is a good opportunity to check your AUTO SAVE settings. Set them to what you are willing to lose should the system crash. 15 min works for me.
    have fun.

  • Calculating and displaying the Length of the side of a triangle

Hi everyone. I am currently working on Dragging and Stretching a triangle on screen. Ive got it working to a certain extent but the only problem is that whenever I go to the point from which i have to drag my triangle i.e. the Left hand Corner of the BAse at exactly 300,300 it redraws a new triangle below the existing one and then when i stretch it from the top and the right it leaves a trail of triangles everytime. But when i resize my window it clears the trail only to start agian when I drag or stretch it...
All my code for wahtever I have done is displayed below. I would appreciate all the help that any one can offer.
Secondly , as I stretch my triangle I would like to calculate My Length of the hypotenuse and the other 2 sides as they change and display it in System.out.println for now...

  • Help, how to open and display blobs from tables

    Dear all,
I am trying to store ms-word files on a table using a blob column.
Does anyone how to open the files and display them from a form using 9iAS?
    Thank you.
    Carlos.

And there may be, but you won't likely find that here. Do some time searching Google and maybe you'll find code that someone was nice enough to make freely available, although I wouldn't count on it. Were i a programmer and took the time to read those docs and write the code, I'd want to be paid for my time. But there are a lot of programmers who swear by freeware! You may get lucky.
