Timestamp in stderr.log file

I have WLS 8.1 setup on Win2k servers. Unlike all the other log files, the stderr.log file does not contain the timestamp in it which makes it very difficult to know at what time a particular error occured. Where can I set this up ? Kindly let me know.

Rather you can use the Log4j which is the best I feel for logging messages.. You can get a free download from apache.. You can control the way messages are logged by simply changing a XML file!!

  • Stdout and stderr log files

    hello everyone,
    I recently used Oracle SOA Suite 10g to deploy my WAR file in it, i found the log file which contains the stdout and stderr in "ORA_HOME\opmn\logs\default_group~home~default_group~1.log".
    My question is: How can I view this log file through the Application Server Control?

    Hi Hussam,
    received your screen shot and it just misses the vital pieces, the content above the blue line. On the upper right left you will find four links called Setup, Logs, Help, Logout. Logs might be greyed out and not working. To make this working click on the name of type Application Server (J2EE.wbt in your case). This will open a page for the Application Server. Logs should be a normal link now.

  • How do I read or change TimeStamp in log files?

    We have deployed BIPublisher 10.1.3.4 EAR into OC4J container. I am seeing the following timestamp in BI log files..

    I can understand the first part 010909 as the date but I don't know how to read 032352774 value. Nothing is specified in the documentation. I am seeing this timestamp in the log file under OPMN Logs folder. I am not sure why Debug info goes here instead of application.log file.
    Your help is greatly appreciated..
    Thanks!
    Srini

    The timestamp more than likely comes from a Java class using a form of UTC timestamp format. Sometimes the UTC format, at the end SSS part is based on StDZ, or portion of a second and the timezone desigator. The timezone/timestamp format is embedded where BIP gets initialized. It is possible to de-code EAR/WAR/JAR files and find the date format method, but then you are altering source code and that has support implications. In the big scheme of things, no big deal.

  • Rolling weblogic.stderr and weblogic.stdout log files

    Is there a way of make the -Dweblogic.stderr and -Dweblogic.stdout log files, rotate by size or time? We are running into 100MB+ files because we can't find any documentation about how to rotate these files.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

    The stdout and stderr output options in weblogic apply to the jvm process using the standard unix standard in/ standard out redirection; therefore, BEA has not included a native method to rotate these files.
    However, in weblogic 10, if you place these files in the same directory as the weblogic output log (not to be confused with -D=/path/to/stderr.log and -D=/path/to/stdout.log they will be rotated every time you restart the server.
    The other way to get fine-grained log rotation on these files is to use a standard log rotation mechanism such as logrotate: http://linuxcommand.org/man_pages/logrotate8.html
    The other option is to address logging using an application framework such as log4j from a development standpoint.
    As of right now, these are your only options, unless someone puts in a feature request to BEA.

  • Rotate Log Files - stdout.log & stderr.log

    Hi Folks,
    Whats the best way to rotate stdout.log & stderr.log.
    I am assuming that rolling of these files can not be configured using felix (please correct me if I am mistaken)
    Please advice!
    Thanks,
    Adnan

    Hi Adnan,
    There is currently no way to rotate stdout.log and stderr.log. Therefore, if you want to preserve the stdout.log and stderr.log so that they do not get truncated after restart, add the following commands before any other command in the start script.
    # Move stdout.log and stderr.log
    mv ../logs/stdout.log ../logs/stdout_$(date +%Y-%m-%d-%H%M).log
    mv ../logs/stderr.log ../logs/stderr_$(date +%Y-%m-%d-%H%M).log
    Another possible way is to disable the stdout.log and stderr.log entirely and instead output the information to the startup.log. Then you can rotate the startup.log instead.
    a) To disable the stderr.log and stdout.log, i guess you can add these lines to your crx-quickstart/server/start script:
    QUICKSTART_OPTS='-verbose -nobrowser'
    export QUICKSTART_OPTS
    b) To configure the path of the startup.log, you can add this to the start script as well (replace /path/to/startup.log with the path you would like the log to be written to instead):
    CQ_LOG=/path/to/startup.log
    export CQ_LOG
    c) Then after doing this, there is a side effect that crx output will go to the startup.log as well. to fix this, do the following:
        1) Go to crx-quickstart/server/runtime/0/_crx/log4j.xml
        2) Comment out this element <appender-ref ref="console" /> from log4j.xml
    <root>
    <level value="info" />
    <!-- appender-ref ref="console" /-->
    <appender-ref ref="error" />
    </root>
    d) Also, now you would like to rotate the startup.log file:
    "The file startup.log logs messages while the Servlet Engine starts. It is usually small, and you cannot configure it."
    The startup log cannot be rotated with CQSE facilities. Please note that logs under /server is rotated at operating system level,
    for more info see http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/programs/rotatelogs.html
    Unix workaround :
    in serverctl script, replace the line :
    exec $jvmExe >> "$CQ_LOG" 2>&1
    by :
    exec $jvmExe | /usr/sbin/rotatelogs "$CQ_LOG.%Y%m%d" 86400 >> /dev/null 2>&1
    If this doesn't seem to work, then try
    exec $jvmExe 2>&1 | /usr/sbin/rotatelogs "$CQ_LOG.%Y%m%d" 86400
    Unfortunately, I did not found any workaround for windows system.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Varun

    So, if anyone has any idea...
    Thanks in advance

    Does anyone know how or if it is possible to send the stdout and/or stderr to the log4j type of logging? I already capture the stdout and stderr to the flat file. But I would like to timestamp every line to compare and diagnose problems with each application that encounters problems. Each web app is using log4j to their own application log4j log file. When they encounter errors or resource draining problems, I would like to see the container logs and see what was occuring inside the container at around that same time.
    Any ideas?

    One of my standard answers (which will explain the use of Directory Objects)...
    The UTL_FILE_DIR parameter has been deprecated by oracle in favour of direcory objects because of it's security problems.
    The correct thing to do is to create a directory object e.g.:
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY mydir AS 'c:\myfiles';Note: This does not create the directory on the file system. You have to do that yourself and ensure that oracle has permission to read/write to that file system directory.
    Then, grant permission to the users who require access e.g....
    GRANT READ,WRITE ON DIRECTORY mydir TO myuser;Then use that directory object inside your FOPEN statement e.g.
    fh := UTL_FILE.FOPEN('MYDIR', 'myfile.txt', 'r');Note: You MUST specify the directory object name in quotes and in UPPER case for this to work as it is a string that is referring to a database object name which will have been stored in uppercase by default.

  • Need to write a procedure for Log files (scheduled jobs)

    Hi,
    We have around 50 scheduled jobs.Jobs will run parallelly. In these jobs, some jobs will repeat at different timings.in these some jobs are daily jobs and some are weekly and some are monthly and some will run first and second working day of the month and some will run on some particular days.
    Now I want to write a procedure like, For every job it should create a log file like "
    <Job_Name> started on <Date> at <start_Time(timestamp)> and completed on <Date> at <End_Time(Timestamp)> successfully.
    <Job_Name> started on <Date> at <start_Time(timestamp)> and completed on <Date> at <End_Time(Timestamp)> abnormally.
    If all jobs complted successfully it should send an email to the mailgroup with attached log file (which contains the details of all the jobs) with format as follows.
    Jobname Start_date Start_time End_Date End_Time Status
    SALES 21-May-2011 12:00:00 21-May-2011 12:01:00 Completed Successfully
    21-May-2011 12:15:00 21-May-2011 12:16:00 Completed successfully
    Proudcts 21-May-2011 23:00:00 21-May-2011 23:16:00 Completed successfully
    ITEMS 21-May-2011 23:00:00 21-May-2011 23:16:00 Completed successfully
    If the status ="Completed abnormally" for any particular job
    immediately it should send an mail to the group like " FATAL_MESG_JOBANAME_Date_Time(timestamp)"
    for example if SALES job was failed at 15:00:00 then immediately it should send a mail.
    if ITEMS got failed then it should mail ( in between any job got failed it should send an email).
    if every thing is going cool then need send a final success mail to the group.
    so Please let me know how to write a program for this requiremnt.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Problem in Rolling to new a log file only when it exceeds max size (Log4net library)

    Hello,
    I am using log4net library to create log files.
    My requirement is roll to a new log file with name appended with timestamp only when file size exceeds max size (file name ex: log_2014_12_11_12:34:45 etc).
    My config is as follow
     <appender name="LogFileAppender"
                          type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender" >
            <param name="File" value="logging\log.txt" />
            <param name="AppendToFile" value="true" />
            <rollingStyle value="Size" />
            <maxSizeRollBackups value="2" />
            <maximumFileSize value="2MB" />
            <staticLogFileName value="true" />
            <lockingModel type="log4net.Appender.FileAppender+MinimalLock" />
            <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout">
              <param name="ConversionPattern"
                   value="%-5p%d{yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss} – %m%n" />
              <conversionPattern
                   value="%newline%newline%date %newline%logger
                           [%property{NDC}] %newline>> %message%newline" />
            </layout>
          </appender>
    Issue is date time is not appending to file name.
    But if i set "Rolling style" as "Date or composite", file name gets appended with timestamp, but new file gets created before reaching max file size.(Because file gets created  whenever date time changes, which i dont want) .
    Please help me in solving this issue?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    I'd ask the logfornet people: http://logging.apache.org/log4net/

  • Node.js loss of permission to write/create log files

    We have been operating Node.js as a worker role cloud service. To track server activity, we write log files (via log4js) to C:\logs
    Originally the logging was configured with size-based roll-over. e.g. new file every 20MB. I noticed on some servers the sequencing was uneven
    socket.log <-- current active file
    socket.log.1
    socket.log.3
    socket.log.5
    socket.log.7
    it should be
    socket.log.1
    socket.log.2
    socket.log.3
    socket.log.4
    Whenever there is uneven sequence, i realise the beginning of each file revealed the Node process was restarted. From Windows Azure event log, it further indicated worker role hosting mechanism found node.exe to have terminated abruptly.
    With no other information to clue what is exactly happening, I thought there was some fault with log4js roll over implementation (updating to latest versions did not help). Subsequently switched to date-based roll-over mode; saw that roll-over happened every
    midnight and was happy with it.
    However some weeks later I realise the roll-over was (not always, but pretty predictably) only happening every alternate midnight.
    socket.log-2014-06-05
    socket.log-2014-06-07
    socket.log-2014-06-09
    And each file again revealed that midnight the roll-over did not happen, node.exe was crashing again. Additional logging on uncaughtException and exit happens showed nothing; which seems to suggest node.exe was killed by external influence (e.g. process
    kill) but it was unfathomable anything in the OS would want to kill node.exe.
    Additionally, having two instances in the cloud service, we observe the crashing of both node.exe within minutes of each other. Always. However if we had two server instances brought up on different days, then the "schedule" for crashing would
    be offset by the difference of the instance launch dates.
    Unable to trap more details what's going on, we tried a different logging library - winston. winston has the additional feature of logging uncaughtExceptions so it was not necessary to manually log that. Since winston does not have date-based roll-over it
    went back to size-based roll-over; which obviously meant no more midnight crash.
    Eventually, I spotted some random midday crash today. It did not coincide with size-based rollover event, but winston was able to log an interesting uncaughtException.

    Interesting question: the Node process _was_ writing to socket1.log all along; why would there be a sudden EPERM error?
    On restart it could resume writing to the same log file. Or in previous cases it would seem like the lack of permission to create a new log file.
    Any clues on what could possibly cause this? On a "scheduled" basis per server? Given that it happens so frequently and in sync with sister instances in the cloud service, something is happening in the back scenes which I cannot put a finger to.
    thanks

    Hi,
    It is  strange. From your description, how many instances of your worker role? Do you store the log file on your VM local disk? To avoid this question, the best choice is you could store your log file into azure storage blob . If you do this, all log
    file will be stored on blob storage. About how to use azure blob storage, please see this docs:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-introduction/
    Please try it.
    If I misunderstood, please let me know.

    Hi 966148,
    All your code combination tasks refer Category as the parameter which DAC passes.
    If you did not follow the instruction what I gave in
    SDE_ORAR1213_Adaptor.SDE_ORA_GLBalanceFact_Full
    then all your code tasks fails with Database driver error.
    If you followed then Close the thread by saying it fixed your issue.
    Mark helpfull or correct.
    Regards,
    Veeresh Rayan
